#2 of Lila of the Reptilydes
Lila glided into the library a few minutes later, after making a quick stop at her room to grab the egg, looking around for her brother. She found him in his favorite alcove, reading a book on crossbreeding with nagas of all things.
She poked her brother in the back several times to get his attention. "Hey, I want you to take a look at something for me," she said.
Dmitri turned to look at his favorite sibling, his little sister, the runt of their litter so to speak. "Yes little one?" he asked calmly.
He was always calm, always the one so totally in control. Everyone said that Ian would one day renounce his crown and it would pass down to him. He didn't believe so, but he was a very cautious naga and studied for anything that might happen to come his way, should he be crowned king.
Lila held up the egg for him to see. His eyes went wide with disbelief and wonder. He almost grabbed it out of her hands but she kept the egg just out of reach.
"Uh-uh, no sir, this is egg is still living. He or she is my responsibility. I am allowing you to study him or her while he is his egg, or her egg." She added.
Dmitri glared at her, knowing he had to do it her way if he even wanted a peek at the little creature. He sighed. He got out his notebook and started taking notes on all he saw of the little egg, then stopped midsentence. He recognized the egg coloring and structure.
"This is a wyvern and naga egg isn't it!!!!!" he said excitedly. He is sister just grinned at him, holding it up a little more so that he could get a better look. He jotted down more notes, wondering what the little creature would look like. Some documented crossbreeds didn't look right, while others were dangerously good looking, deceiving in nature and beauty.
All of a sudden they heard their father roaring in anger. They looked at each other, knowing what their father was angry about, knowing they should join their brothers in the throne room, yet really not wanting to.
They both sighed in resignation. They glided into the throne room a few minutes later, cringing as their father continued yelling at the four boys in front of him.
Ian, with all his glorious red hair, stood proudly in front of his father, taking his punishment like a man Kory looked very uninterested, looking anywhere but at his father. The twins never the shameful, were laughing and plotting their next big plan to prank anyone in the castle that they so chose.
Dyremus was furious, absolutely furious. How dare they endanger themselves, their sister and their kingdom! He could think of no punishment great enough for them. They needed to be shown that they couldn't endanger lives for no good reason other than just to have some fun.
He glared at them once more then let out his frustration on one last rage filled roar. He turned to them and in a calm voice said, "There will be a party, in order for your sister to meet suitors. But in punishment you will all find a girl for yourselves there too. You must court her and if she is not the one for you, you will find another and then another if you must. But this I swear, all of you will be married before the year is out. If you are not...well let's just say you had better be married or engaged to be married."
Lila giggled at the thought of her brothers trying to court potential brides. Then she remembered that she also had to find a suitor herself, all the while taking care of an egg...or hatchling.
She deflated rather quickly at that thought. She would of course take her responsibilities and be held accountable for her actions. She hugged the egg a little closer to her chest, hoping that she would make a good mother to the hatchling.
