View from Heaven (Part 1) Reminisce 'Yeah, this definitely didn't feel right' I thought. A fox in a pack (more than literally) of rambunctious, partying wolves and my only friend had suddenly disappeared on me, into, maybe even left, the party. A room filled to the brim with wolves of every color and size, and from one of the rooms I could hear a light bass beat thrumming. Sure, they accepted me into this group to begin with, "accepted" being a term I use lightly here. However, that was because Randy had been there to introduce me. Now I sat in the middle of the room, a lone red fox, with these other wolves seemingly getting gradually closer to me, some of them didn't look too happy to see me there. Not really a comfortable situation, especially since most of these guys were also drinking. After me and Randy got here, I was introduced as a friend and they all seemed okay with things, but after that all I got was staring. Even when Randy tried to get me involved in a conversation, the others would just ignore me. He didn't seem to notice though and just said, "Come on Tom, enjoy yourself," in that fun loving way that proved he was completely oblivious as to how uncomfortable I was. I don't drink so I couldn't drink myself into believing I was having a good time, which was also good because who kneww what these guys would do to me if I was drunk. I was at least able to smile a little and follow him around until we sat down on this sofa. But he had gotten up to go find someone, and now he had failed to return to get me so we could leave, and I hadn't seen him for a while as well. Randy went through all this trouble just to get me to try to be more social. Why did he have to bring me to such a congested and obviously wolf-only party? What I still couldn't figure out was why one of them hadn't told me to leave or something. I just assumed that Randy had pulled a few strings to get me in, so I didn't dwell on it too much. Now I just wanted to leave, I was starting to get scared of the looks some of these wolves were giving me. 'Maybe I'm being paranoid' I thought to myself as I scanned the room for my friend from the relative safety of the couch. I'd at least feel safe if he was within sight, that way I could get up and go hover over to him if I needed to. I almost jumped out of my skin when suddenly this big wolf decided to sit right next to me. I gave a small, throaty squeak, which I hoped he didn't hear, and turned my head slightly to look at him. He looked like he would be six feet tall if he were standing up, and like most typical wolves he looked like he was in fairly good shape. His fur was a dark shade of brown, with a small amount of gray fur that ran down from the tip of his chin, presumably all the way down the front of his body. He was wearing a tight gray muscle shirt that accented his muscles, and blue jeans that didn't quite hug his hips, but with his body, it didn't really seem to matter. I looked up at his face and saw him smirking down at me; I then had to look away and hide my blush as I could tell he clearly caught me staring at him. I blushed as I then watched his brown eyes look me up and down and then he very clearly licked his lips. He leaned in close and I could smell more than a hint of alcohol, but he spoke clearly enough as he said "Hey there foxy, m'names Jeff, what's yours?" I gulped, now worried a bit, and said quickly, "Ehh...its Tom." He chuckled a little and said "So what's a fox like you doin at a party like this?" I sighed and said under my breath, "I'd like to know that myself." He frowned a little and scooted closer, whispering in my ear, I could almost feel him, "Ya wanna leave?" The fact that I wanted to leave made no difference because I already did not intend to leave with him. I already knew this was coming, and as admittedly attractive as he was, I was in no mood right now for my first time to be with a guy that picked me up at a party. Especially with some random and, most likely, drunk wolf that had just walked up to me on a whim and asked if I wanted to leave with him. So I just smiled and said, "I'm sorry, but I came here with a friend and I really should wait for him. I don't feel like explaining to him why I'm bringing a guy home with me." 'Or why I'm going back with another guy in general.' I could of sworn I heard a small whine, but he quickly scooted close to me so our arms were now touching, his paw now rubbing the top of mine, and he whispered to me, "You can always come home with me." He ran a finger down my side and I visibly shivered at his touch. Now he was getting physical, but for some reason he didn't really scare me. What worried me was if one of the other wolves around us caught him doing this to me. He was either slightly desperate, or he was genuinely interested, but either way I had to decline. On top of that, he had a lot of guts to be hitting on me here of all places, I could of very well of been straight. I sighed and said with a slightly genuine smile, "That still means that I'd have to explain to my friend what happened to me and where I went. And I don't personally want to tell him." It was his turn to sigh this time, "Alright, you win; you have a good night then." I blinked as he patted my side and then got up and left me alone on the couch. I was a little surprised that he gave up that easily, 'guess he wasn't that drunk after all.' Just as he disappeared into the crowd, I spotted Randy pushing his way through the crowd from the same direction. He had to avoid the wolf as they passed and I coulda sworn they exchanged a look, but I just let it pass. As he came up to me, I had to resist the urge to let my tail wag freely, or even jump up and drag him out as fast as my feetpaws could take us. He stopped in front of me and said with at a slight sigh, "So, you wanna leave now, or did you wanna hang out a little longer?" This time I really did have to resist the urge to jump up and drag him out of the party. Instead, I said very casually, "Sure, I'm getting pretty tired now anyways." I got up and he pat me on the back, I couldn't help but smile wide at him, he always had my best intention in mind, even if he did kind of have a hard time reading my emotions. But hey, this black wolf had been my best friend since grade school, and now that we were in college, sticking together made things easier on both of us. I had a friend to talk to, help pay for our dorm room, hang out with, etc. Plus, who was I gonna beat at Halo if he wasn't around, I wasn't really up for meeting new people, it got hard for me after middleschool. Now that we were finally leaving and my friends back was to me I could finally let my tail wag freely. . I still caught a few 'hungry' glances from a few wolves on the way out, but at least now, I didn't have to worry about sticking around. Out in the fresh, cool air I was able to breath in and not catch the scent of tobacco and beer. Now on out way back to our dorm, Randy turned to me and said, "So it wasn't what I had expected, you still had fun right?" I blinked, wondering if I he had actually picked up on my hints at my feelings towards the party or if he himself hadn't enjoyed it as much as he thought he would have himself. It didn't matter now though, so I told him honestly, "Not really." I saw him lower his ears and I quickly added, "Well you know I'm not all that big on social events, and that was pretty big." He nodded, "Yeah, like I said, it wasn't what I thought it would be. I didn't really expect to see so many people there myself." He smiled sheepishly and added, "Sorry 'bout leaving you on that couch. I didn't expect to leave you for that long. Got caught up talking to some guys from the football team and tey kinda kept me back there..." As I wondered how he could pull that look off without looking completely ridiculous, I said, "Its okay, nobody gave me any trouble and I seem to still be in one piece." He licked his lips and looked as though he was contemplating something, but he then shook his head and that look seemingly disappeared. He then asked, "I saw that wolf get up from the couch, did you know him?" I tilted my ears foreword and felt my face get a bit hotter in the cool air as I said, "I kinda just met him, why?" He shrugged, "Meh, no reason, just saw you two talking and you two seemed to be getting along okay for the short time that I watched you." He really seemed to be hiding something, but now I was so tired I was literally swaying with the small breeze blowing on me. 'Shit,' I thought, 'he saw that!?' I shook my head a little as I tried to prepare myself for what I thought was an inevitable question about what me and the wolf were talking about, "Lets just get to the dorm so I can sleep...preferably before I pass out on the lawn...or pavement." Randy chuckles at this and throws his arm around my shoulder. "Agreed, and it's getting a little chilly here too." We walked off quickly to the male dorm and into our two-person dorm room. As we walked into our room we both fell on our separate beds. I almost fell asleep immediately, but I reached into my pocket to take my cell out. What I felt was, against my cellphone, was a small piece of paper. I took it out and turned on the bedside lamp to looked at it, my eyes widening at what I found. I quietly celebrated as I found that Jeff had done more than just pat my side nicely when he left me on the couch. 'He must have slipped this in my pocket, pretty impressive,' I thought to myself as I put the slip of paper in my phone. Even though I was a bit unsure as to why I was excited, I had just met him, and now I had his number. Maybe it was just the excitement of finding someone else with the same interests as me here on this campus that made me excited. But, I wouldn't know how things would turn out until I gave him a call and a chance...

    • * Meanwhile, in a house off campus, Jeff walked up to his door an unlocked it. As he walked in and closed the door, he noticed that the whole place was still dark and quiet, which probably meant that his roommate was still out. He set the keys on the small counter that separated the front room from the kitchen and sat down on a stool. He sat there for a moment, thinking about what he had just done at the party. He did not even know the fox, and he had hit on him and even slipped him his number in hopes that he would consider his offer. He had not dated in a while, but he thought now was as good a time as any to try again. The fox was admittedly cute, which is why he went over to him in the first place, but he didn't know if the fox would feel the same way, or even went that way. He sighed and got up, walking over to the refrigerator and grabbed a bottle of beer. He popped off the top and drank some as he walked into his room. He set it on his bedside desk and began to take off his clothes. He stripped down to his boxers and slid under his sheets, grabbing a remote and turning on the television. He drank the rest of his beer as he lay there watching the late night TV shows. Well, at least he was staring at the screen. His thoughts lay on the fox, and he wondered to himself if he had found the slip of paper. And if he did, then what did he do with it? He hoped that the fox hadn't just thrown it away, not that he would ever know if he did or not. Tomorrow was Saturday, so at least there was a chance that he would call. All kinds of thoughts ran through his head as the lights from the TV flashed in front of him. He sighed again and turned off the TV. As he turned over, the last thoughts to run through his head being 'let this be my second chance.' With that, he slowly drifted off to another dreamless sleep.
    • * I felt myself being shaken back into consciousness by someone, who I could only guess was Randy. Then I heard him say, "C'mon dude, get up. It's 8 am and it's a beautiful day outside and I am hungry." I moaned angrily and pushed him away, "Then that's your problem," I grumble, "Doesn't mean you have to wake -me- up to go and eat." "Yeah it does," He said simply and ripped my covers off me. That woke me up immediately, as my eyes bolted open I tried to cover myself with my tail and paws, as I always slept in the nude. Randy just shook his head and said, "Don't worry, that isn't the first time I've seen you naked this year and I don't expect it to be my last. You have no idea how much you sleep walk." I just lay there with my tail hiding my sheath from my best friends view. I was shocked at how well he took this sudden exposure, though according to him it wasn't the first, which got me wondering what he meant. "So you're not offended?" I choked. He just laughed and said, "Nah, I think by now I can say I've seen a lot of guys due to being involved with sports. I've learned to just ignore it," He shrugged and went over to his drawers and grabbed a shirt. I noticed he was already in jeans, and as he put it on he said, "Now are you gonna get dressed while my backs turned or are you just gonna lay there?" I got up and quickly grabbed a pair of underwear from my drawer and slipped them on. As I pulled my tail through the hole in the underwear, I said, "So you're okay with me sleeping naked?" He turned and smiled at me, "Sure, just as long as you don't decide to jump in bed with me. I don't swing that way friend." I knew he was joking, and I tried to smile, but I couldn't help but blush a little and gave a nervous laugh. I still couldn't believe that I had been unable to tell him that I was gay. Even after all these years, I know he would understand, but I didn't know how to tell him. 'Maybe over breakfast...' I thought as I put a pair of jeans and a black shirt on. I looked at him; he was dressed in shorts and a brown shirt with an interesting design on it. He was also smiling at me again, "So, where should we go to eat?" "Dunno," I said, shrugging, "What about Denny's." He shook his head, "Again?" I looked at him and smirked, "Haven't heard you complain about the food yet." "Well...that's because their fairly decent," he stuttered, "But as soon as we find somewhere else better we will eat there." "Whatever you say," I said as I grabbed my cell phone. At that moment, I remembered something I had done last night and I opened up my phone. A small slip of paper fell to the ground slowly and I scooped it up before it got too far. "Wassat?" My friend asked, poking me in the side, making me twitch slightly. I looked at the number, trying to ignore my friends prodding. I then looked at my cell phone and an idea suddenly popped into my head. 'Oh sure, I can invite him, but then what about telling Randy about my sexuality? Then again that could make it easier.' As I contemplated inviting Jeff along, whom I barely knew, I was suddenly jabbed hard in the side by my friend. I made a loud meep and jerked to get out of the way. "What the heck was that for," I asked him. "For completely spacing out, that's what," He said frankly. I stared at him for a second, wondering what he could possibly be talking about. Then he said, "So, what's that piece of paper you got there?" I blinked and quickly realized I must have been staring at the piece of paper for a while. I almost blushed when I said, "Oh, well this is the phone number of that wolf from the party. He said he wanted to hang out and I should give him a call." I hoped that that sounded innocent enough to Randy. When he didn't say anything right away I almost panicked and tried to think up another reason. Then he suddenly smiled and said, "Well, are you gonna call him or just stare at his number?" "You don't mind that he comes along with us?" I was trying to smile genuinely but was having a little bit of trouble for various reasons. One of them being the real reason I would be calling the wolf. "Sure," Randy said giving me a pat on my back. "Just as long as he pays for it." "Wait, why?" I asked. He scoffed, apparently kidding, "You don't expect me to keep paying if you decide you want to invite your friends. I'm not made of money ya know." "Fine, but I'm not sure how he'll react when he hears that he's paying for all of us." I was expecting him to say that he was kidding or he'd pick up half the tab. Instead, he says, "Neither do I, and I'm sure neither of us will know unless you actually make the call." I gave him my best you've-got-to-be-kidding look before dialing the wolf's number into my phone.
    • * The phone call had been nerve wracking, but I kept my cool. However, when we got there and I saw him sitting at one of the booths, I suddenly remembered what I was about to do and nearly froze. Instead, I just walked stiffly up to the booth and sat next to Jeff, Randy sliding in next to me so I was now in the middle. I tried to reassure myself that Randy would understand, but there was still that nagging feeling that the shit was about to hit the fan. I just stared at the table until Jeff nudged me and said, "So, tell me again why I'm paying for all of us." "Well," I began, "Randy here has been paying for breakfast for the past year, that's mostly because it's just been me and him." "And really, I can't afford to buy us all breakfast," Randy said. "If you can't afford it then we can split it, that I have no problem with." 'Wait' I think, 'why didn't he tell me to say that to him on the phone though?' That's when the young skunk waitress, her name I think was Jennifer, came up to our table. She was the same girl that had been working there for about a year and had served us at each breakfast there. I had seen her around campus, but never really got to say hi to her or anything. Luckily, she always had the morning shift when Randy and I came to eat, so by now she had our orders down by heart. It was the other reason we kept coming back here. She giggled slightly after glancing at Randy and me and said, "I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you two want the usual." We both smirk and nodded, Jeff giving us a strange look before ordering his breakfast and a glass of OJ. She took our menus and said, "'Kay, so I'll get you your drinks as soon as I can." Then she went off to fill more orders from the other customers. When she left us alone with each other, it also brought back the thoughts of my plan. I decided just to get it over with or I would probably get sick with stress. I also figured that this was about o get really awkward for Jeff, seeing as though this could almost constitute as a date and I just decided to tell my best friend about my sexuality now of all times. Yeesh, I had bad timing. "Randy, there's something I've been meaning to tell you," I kept my head down and my voice just above a whisper so he could hear me, but not the other people nearby. "Yeees, Tom?" He said slowly, leaning into me a little. "Heh, yeah, you know, I woulda told you this sooner, but I wasn't sure how you'd react." I paused and looked at him. If he was showing any emotion, I couldn't read it at all. I could feel my eye twitch and my stomach start to tighten as I tried to force the words out of my muzzle. "Well, I'm kinda gay." I practically flinched at the words as though it were a punch to the face. I continued to look at my friend, only to see that his expression didn't really change. He just sat back and said, "I had a feeling that you were gay." I nearly passed out; this was the total opposite reaction than what I had expected. He sighed then tilted his head to look at me and said, "By the way, how can you 'kinda' be gay?" That caught me a little off guard. I hadn't expected the joke, and I jumped when I heard Jeff start to giggle. I shrugged, "I guess I didn't word it correctly." He started to laugh a little himself and said, "Yeah, I think it was just a little poorly worded." So I guess he wasn't going to get mad or get up and leave. He seemed okay with my confession to being gay, and now that I knew this, I was slowly starting to feel better. I was about to say something when Jennifer came back with our drinks. When she was at a safe enough distance away, I looked back at Randy and asked, "So how could you have guessed that I was gay?" He smiled at me with his goofy smile and said, "Well, I figured that in the years that I've known you, I have not seen you with a girl." He paused for a second before continuing, "Then again I've never seen you with a guy. I just figured you were still figuring things out. I guess I never let you know how accepting I was to alternative lifestyles so I guess I am sort of to blame for you not telling me this." "Ugh..." Yeah, I wasn't too happy with myself. I buried my muzzle into my paws and sighed, "For five years I kept this to myself. I could have told you the whole time." I felt a paw start to massage my neck and I lift my head to look at Randy, but he was pointing to Jeff. He was smiling at me as he massaged my neck gently and I couldn't help but let out a soft murr. "It takes a lot to tell even your best friend about your sexuality. Don't be too hard on yourself, I still haven't told my parents yet. And don't ask how they don't know yet, 'cause even I don't know." "I've seen you in the locker room checking out other guys," Ralph said to Jeff. "I figured if you weren't gay then you were in deep denial. I saw you talking to Tom, didn't think much of it, until he pulled out your number earlier." "I'm just glad he kept it." Jeff remarked. "I'm still a little confused as to how you got it in my pocket without me noticing." I said still enjoying the massage. "If you wore tighter pants I might not have gotten away with it," Jeff chuckled. We were quiet for a second, I was becoming more and more relaxed, and I don't know what was going through those two wolves minds. All I knew was that my best friend accepted me and the wolf rubbing my neck was willing to go out with me...at least I think he was. Soon our food came and we began to eat. Much to my dismay Jeff was unable to continue to rub my neck. We finished rather quickly and paid our bill, which Jeff and Ralph split between each other. Ralph left Jennifer a nice tip and we left the restaurant with a smile on each of our faces. As we walked onto campus, a thought came to mind and I asked Ralph, "Are you comfortable with me sleeping in the same room as you?" Ralph looked at me and started to laugh. "Well the only reason I wouldn't be comfortable with sleeping in the same room as you is if you started to get overly friendly with me." We continued walking again and just a few seconds later he said, "Also, please don't bring your boyfriend home with you. I don't really need to see, hear or smell you bumpin' uglies with another guy." To this Jeff burst out laughing, this did cause me to giggle a little. I looked over at Ralph and asked, "Well, does that mean that I can't bring Jeff back to the dorm so we could play some Halo?" "Hey, I didn't say that you couldn't have a guy over to get his ass handed to him in a game." "Whoa, whoa, whoa." Jeff said stopping us. We turned to look at him and he smiled. "You think that you can immediately assume that you are superior to me in Halo? When you have never seen me play before, who knows, I could kill your sorry ass. What do you have to say for yourself now?" "I'd say that your right and maybe we should hurry back to our dorm." Ralph said smugly. "Okay, less talky, more walky guys." I said quickly moving towards our dorm. They both quickly caught up with me and we hurried up to the room to have a nice, friendly game of Halo 2. Things were starting to get better with my life. Maybe this really was a turning point for me, and maybe I had a potential boyfriend.
    • * So we played Halo until we passed out (well, at least Jeff passed out) but since it was weekend and none of us had classes we decided to just see how long we could last. We started at noon, right after we got some food, and only stopped to order pizza for dinner. Jeff was the first to fall asleep, we were in the middle of another death match (He had done well in keeping up ad had actually beaten me a few times) he just suddenly stopped. He was sitting on the ground next to me when he suddenly fell over and that was it. We checked the time, and he almost made it to 5 am. Randy and I figured that it wouldn't be right to continue playing without him. We turned off the game and lifted him up on my bed. Ralph then stumbled over to his bed and fell onto it. I think he was out at that point. I looked at the brown wolf lying on my bed, running my paw lightly down his arm. I felt his muscles tense slightly as I went up his biceps and squeezing his shoulder a little. I pushed him over a little, which didn't really seem to bug him at all. I then stripped off my clothes, leaving just my boxers on (seeing as though this was my first time with him I didn't think we were at the point where either of us would be naked). I lay down next to him and pulled the covers over us. I then wrapped my arms around him and held him, then he suddenly took me in his arm and I felt safe and secure. No one had ever held me like this before; I nuzzled his neck a little before pushing my muzzle into his chest fur and letting in his scent. I murred as his scent took over my senses and I loved every second of it. I feel asleep like that, listening to him breathing, and I dreamed of us going further than this and of him taking me. It was the best night I had ever had, it completed the weekend for me.
    • * The same sounds that had lulled me to sleep woke me up. I opened my eyes, the only thing I could see was Jeff's cotton shirt in front of me, and I could feel his strong arms around me. I breathed in his scent and smiled wide at both the scent itself and the closeness. I looked up and could see that I moved down during the night and he had been nuzzling my head. I looked up at him and I could see he was still fast asleep. I scooted up a little and I kissed his muzzle gently. He smiled a little and held me a little tighter. I reached up, scratched his ear, and whispered, "C'mon Jeff, time to get up." There was a moment where he felt up and down my back almost questioningly, he then began to slowly open his eyes and looked down at me. There was only a slight amount of confusion in his eyes for a split second. It was quickly replaced by tired happiness as he gave my muzzle a lick and said, "How long have we been like this?" I nuzzled against his neck and said, "Since you passed out at about five this morning." He chuckled a little as he asked, "What time is it now?" I shrugged, not really caring myself, "Dunno," I said as I rubbed my body against him, "why, do you need to be somewhere?" He gave a light chuckle as he said, "No, but I do need food." He pet me softly on the head before picking me up and rotating himself so he was sitting on the edge of the bed with me in his lap. He gave a big yawn and then looked up and down my body. I could feel myself blush as I felt his view go down to my boxers. His big paws gripped my hips and he leaned forward and kissed me on the muzzle. "I could always wait for food though, what do you think?" That's when I heard Randy's tired voice, "Two things. One, what are you two doing over there and two can I turn over without seeing two naked canines?" I sighed and pet Jeff's muzzle, "Yeah, let me just get dressed, I have underwear on so don't worry." I kissed Jeff and whispered, "Let me think about this for a while. But don't worry bout it, 'kay? Maybe we can finish up later." I heard him give an obviously fake whine as I got off his lap and I opened my drawer to get some clothes. Randy threw off his covers and did the same. As he did he said, "Looks like we'll be getting lunch rather breakfast now." He put on his shirt than smiled at me and pointed to the digital clock on the nightstand, which read 2:30. "So, did you have fun last night?" I laughed nervously, "I didn't really do much..." "Not you," Randy cut off, and nodded over at Jeff. "I was talking to your boyfriend there." I looked over at Jeff and he looked a little confused. The thought of us being boyfriends never crossed my mind, and it was obvious that that he hadn't considered it either. 'I guess I should have asked him that,' I thought, 'did I just expect it to be a truth?' I watched as Jeff's lips curved into a wry smile as he said to Randy, "I had quite a bit of fun kicking your ass last night. I didn't think that you really had to ask." I looked back at Ralph. He was now sporting the same smile as Jeff. He shook his head and said, "You just got lucky my friend." Jeff just chuckled and said, "Whatever." I quickly pulled my pants and shirt on and said, "So where should we go to eat?" I was facing Randy when I said this so I was surprised when Jeff wrapped his arms around my shoulders and rested his head on top of mine. I smiled as he says, "Why don't I take you out to lunch and let Ralph here have a homo free meal." We all laughed at this and Ralph said, "As much as I don't mind eating with you two, I could do without seeing you both kissing during a meal. But like I said, I don't mind too much if we all have lunch together." I thought about it and realized something, "Well it'd be nice to go on a date with my new mate where it was just me and him, seeing as though it's technically the second one we've had. And I'd really like to get to know you." He rubbed my chest a little and I saw Ralph give a small smile. But the look in his eyes didn't match that which had crossed the rest of his face. I would of tilted my head, had Jeff's chin had not been resting on it, so I just raised an eyebrow questioningly. Ralph then said, almost cheerfully, "Hey, Tom, can I talk to you alone for a minute." I nodded and Jeff released me from his grip, and I followed Ralph out of the dorm room. We went down the hall a little then stopped, he turned to face me and his smile was gone. It was replaced by that of seriousness and concern, and the sound of his voice reflected this, "Okay, tell me something, you just met this guy, right?" I just nodded slowly and he continued. "Then how can he be your 'mate' already?" He spoke quietly, thankfully, but his words confused me for a second. Then I understood what he was saying and I realized that he was right. I didn't even know the guy and he was already trying to get in my pants, 'or maybe that was a shared feeling' I thought off-handedly. 'Though I did climb into bed with him and I was cuddling with him, but that's because I like to be close I guess' I thought. "Yeah...I see your point," I said a little saddened and ashamed with myself. He set a paw on my shoulder and said, "Look, I don't want to get in the way of your relationship, I just think you should wait until you know the guy a little before you do anything." "I guess crawling into bed with him was moving a little fast, huh?" I thought that he'd see that it was rhetorical, but then he said, "Well it wouldn't have been such a bad idea had you not been half-naked." I sighed, "Guess I'll go on that date with him, and I'll make sure I don't do anything stupid." He pet me, "Look, I don't really think you'll do anything stupid. I'm a little more worried about him taking advantage of you." "What makes you say that?" "Well, haven't been in a relationship before have you?" He asked. I just shook my head and he continued with a sighed, "What are you planning on doing today?" "Just going out to lunch I guess. We kinda just woke up, after that though I don't know what to do," I said. "Well, if anything happens, call me; I'll have my cell phone on all day." "Okay," I said. I was sure that things were going to be fine, but I knew I had to be careful. As new as I was to going out, I knew that some were just in it for the sex, and I didn't want that. I also knew that there were more dangers, but I had a good feeling about Jeff. "I'll let you know how things go." He nodded, "I just don't want you to get hurt, I want your first relationship to be something special." We then made our way back to the room. When we got in Jeff was already clothed and ready so we left the building and headed for the parking lot. We were almost there when Jeff suddenly said, "Uhh, do you mind if I go back to my place and change into some new clothes? I have this thing where I hate wearing the same thing twice in one week...it's really silly." I giggled slightly, "Not really, lotsa furs can't stand to wear the same clothes twice without them being washed. It's called being clean." "Well," he said, "normally that's true, but I tend to really freak if I don't. It makes it hard for me to function correctly really." I blinked, "That's okay, we all have something wrong with us. Let's just go back to your place for some clothes. Where do you live?" He cleared his throat and said, "In one of the little houses that get rented out to students that can afford them." I nodded and smiled knowing exactly where he was talking about, "That's not too far of a walk from here. One question though. Do you have a car?" "Yeah," he said simply. I smiled wider and poked him in the ribs, "Good, then you can drive me to brunch." "Ehhh...fine with me. Though, by the time we get to my place and I change I think we should just get dinner. I must say thou you'll be worth the gas money." He said giving my ear a scritch. I murred, but shook out of the pleasure quickly and looked around to make sure nobody had seen him do that to me. He gave me a slightly confused look and I said defensively, "Well I don't know if these furs are accepting of this kinda stuff. I don't want them to target us or anything." He sighed, "Fine, but that's something that we should talk about later, 'kay?" I just gave him a nod and he smiled back at me. We then started walking towards his house at a brisk pace. The walk there was a quiet one, but I couldn't help but look at him the whole time. He stood a head taller than me and had a carefree feel to him. Just his presence made me relax. When we got to his place, I noticed first a truck, Toyota it said on the bumper, out in front of the house. I also noticed how small these places were. They were only one story and must have only had two bedrooms in them at the most. When he opened the door and I followed him in, I saw the small kitchen, with a bar-like island that divided it from the living room. It was a few feet directly from the door. I looked behind it and noticed an assortment of liquor underneath the counter. He didn't seem the kind to drink that much, so I guessed that there was someone else that lived here. That and the extra scents that lingered in the air, but I couldn't quite place the species. Mostly because Jeff's was very prominent in the room at the moment and it smelled really good to me. He turned to me and said, "Welcome to my house, why don't you take a seat while I change my clothes. If you want, you can grab something to drink from the fridge. I'll be right back." He pointed to a couch off to the right of the door and I saw that it was just some run down piece that looked like it had seen more than its share of felines. I surmised that some interesting things had been done to this couch and smirked at the thought as I sat on it, taking in its scents. 'Yeah,' I thought chuckling, 'smells as if it's seen its fair share of action.' It was comfortable though and I saw that there was a medium sized television in the room along with a small coffee table in front of the couch. I saw the remote on the table and picked it up, turning on the television, just to pass the time as the wolf changed his clothes. It only took him a few minutes for him to come back out with a pair of jeans and a black shirt that had some logo on it. Must have been from some band or something, but I didn't recognize it and I didn't feel much like asking about it. What I wanted to do was get to know this big guy a little more. I got up and hugged him, "You look nice Jeff." "Thanks, I feel better too." He said tightening the belt on his pants. I honestly couldn't get why such a nice looking wolf could have chosen me as a potential mate. I saw him looking down at me with a slight smirk and I averted my gaze while simultaneously clearing my throat. "Well, since your ready then how 'bout we go and eat," I said letting go of him. As I stood next to him I couldn't help running my fingers through his brown tail. He just chuckled and put his arm around my shoulder and hugged me slightly, "You can play with my tail all you want in the car," he said. I blushed and tugged his tail again as we walked to his car. He opened the passenger door of the old truck and I got in, he walked around and got in the drivers side. When he got in he set his brown tail on my lap and I started to run my paw through it again. I really couldn't help it at this point, his tail was just so nice and soft I felt compelled to do this. He started up the truck and put it in gear and we drove off into town. "So, where are we going to eat now?" I asked him. "Well we could just go to the Chilies in town," he said in between murrs, "its close and it will be dinner soon." I opened my cell phone and saw it was a little past three thirty. Somehow, we managed to miss breakfast and lunch, 'we must have walked slower than I thought,' but that is what happens when you are not used to going to bed so late, I guess. 'Or maybe it was something else' I thought, looking over at the wolf. I sighed and finally realized just how hungry I really was. "I hope you brought enough money, cause I didn't and I'm really hungry." "Donchu worry about money, I have enough to get us food and you should eat until your heart, and stomach's, content." I thought about the situation for a second and smiled, "Thanks for taking me to dinner." He reached over and pet my head, "It's no problem for me. So I say again, don't worry about it." "I'm not worried," I said. He chuckled, "Then why are you squeezing my tail?" I immediately released his tail from my grip and blushed wondering how long I had been hold onto it like that. "Well you don't have to stop petting it; it was just a little uncomfortable with you squeezing like that." "Sorry, I guess I'm just getting nervous because this is kinda my first date." "Your kidding...this is really your first...oh wait, here we are." We pulled up into the parking lot of the restaurant. As he parked the truck he said, "How bout we talk about this in here." I nodded as he turned off the engine. He stopped with his hand on my shoulder before we got out and said, "Don't be so worried about what others say or think about us. Nobodies going to say anything to you while I'm around. I promise." I looked at him and suddenly felt weak. I knew he was talking about my reaction to his public affection earlier, and hearing him say that made me feel good inside. "I'm sorry about that earlier; I'm just not used to this sort of thing yet." "It's okay, I won't rush you through this, I promise." His reassurance made me feel much better and I just smiled to him. We stepped out of the truck and walked together into the establishment. As we walked up to the waitress, a female wolf about my height, I nudged Jeff in the side and whispered, "Gotta use the restroom, I'll be right back okay." He smiled and pat me on the head, "I'll wave for ya when you get out, 'kay." With that, I turned and swiftly made my way to the restrooms in the corner. Unfortunately, I was lost in thought and wasn't quite looking where I was going so I didn't notice the fur walking around the corner to the restrooms until I walked into him. We bumped heads and for a second all I could see were spots as a slight pain ran through my head. I was able to keep my balance though, and apparently, the fur I hit was to because I suddenly felt two hands grab my shoulders and shake me slightly while he spoke to me. "Dude, dontcha watch where you're goin'?" He stopped jostling me and I was able to focus on the creature that had shaken me rudely. It was a two-toned, orange and white furred husky with dark red hair and bright blue eyes. His hair was drooping over his right eye in a wavy way. He was wearing a pink shirt with what looked to me like a bunch of feral lions lying with each other and some tight jeans and had, what looked like, a metal rod piercing on his left ear. I blinked a few more times and shook my head to rid my vision of the spots and said, "Really sorry bout that, my mind was somewhere else and I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going..." Before I could continue the husky interrupted me, "Well that's obvious, seeing as though your head collided with mine. Just watch where you're going okay, man." I was about to answer when he gently nudged me aside and walked around the corner. I sighed and continued into the bathroom. I walked out of the, rather clean, restroom and began my search for my date. It didn't take very long to find him; he wasn't sitting that far away from the entrance to restroom. What I found surprising was that the table right next to him had the same husky I walked into before sitting at it. 'Just my luck,' I thought to myself as I walked over to the waving wolf. Jeff's waving had caught the attention of the husky next to him and he looked from Jeff strait to me and gave me a look of humor and slight embarrassment. This confused me a little, as I expected him to be angry. He had his head in his paw and was shaking it slightly as I sat down in the booth. "Hope everything came out okay," Jeff said and I didn't quite get it as a joke at first, but caught myself before I could respond with something that would make me seem silly, and laughed at the joke. There was an awkward moment of silence that hung between me, Jeff, and secretly the husky. I was sure that Jeff was confused as to why I hadn't said anything, that became even more clear in the way he said, rather awkwardly, "So...what do you feel like having?" I glanced over at the husky and caught his eye. We stared for a second before he dropped his arm and turned to me with a smile, "Sorry about shaking you back there." I chuckled a little and said, "Nah that kinda helped me get my thoughts back together. Besides, I was the one who walked into you so you have nothing to be sorry about." I felt a poke at my hand and looked to see Jeff's questioning look as he stared at me. He said, "What happened?" I moved his paw away and said, "I bumped into him on my way to the bathroom. He gave me a little shake, but everything's okay now." Jeff turned his head and looked at the husky and the husky waved at him. I then reached my paw out and said, "Well since were here, my name is Tom." He took my paw in his and shook it saying, "And mines Ten, nice ta bump into ya." I gave a short laugh and we let go. I then reached across the table, putting my paw on Jeff shoulder, and said, "And this is my friend Jeff." Jeff then reached out and shook Ten's paw. Ten had a small smirk on his face as he said, "So did you bump into this guy too?" As they released their grips I said, "No, not quite," I couldn't help but stare at the husky's shirt. The feral lions on his shirt seemed a little weird...but not in a bad way, I just couldn't place what was weird. Other than the fact that the lions were all male...Wait a minute. "That shirt your wearing...what exactly, umm..." "What this?" He asked pointing at his shirt. "Oh, it's just my pride shirt." He smiled cutely and looked at us intently. "Pride?" I asked. He let out a sigh that could only have meant 'I can't believe I'm explaining this' and said "Gay pride. Jeez is it that hard to figure out?" It took me a second to get it, but when I finally did, my palm met my face and Ten burst out laughing. I looked around and saw only one or two other furs glancing at us, luckily there weren't that many other furs here. I scratched the back of my head as I said, "Well now I get it, I was wondering why there were only males on it." Ten said, "I woulda thought that you'd get it, I mean, unless I got you two wrong." Jeff spoke before I got the chance to recover, "Don't worry, we are, this is our first date together." He glanced over at me and smiled, while under the table I could feel his foot rubbing against my leg. Ten smiled back at us and said, "Cool, I find it kinda weird that you didn't get this shirt though. I mean, I know that it doesn't just say it but still..." "Well, I kinda suspected it, I just wanted to make sure before I said anything," I said. "You'll have to excuse me, I've lived a kinda sheltered life and on top of that I've never seen a shirt like that before, where'd you get it?" "Well I got it off the internet, but last time I checked they were out of your size. I dunno when their gonna reprint them though, so, good luck." I paused and thought for a second, "So, your gay right?" Both Ten and Jeff sighed at that and I could feel myself blush with embarrassment. "Hun," Jeff said, "How sheltered were you when you lived at home?" "I just never got out much that's all. Unlike you, I don't have much of a gaydar or whatever. I can tell when someone's hitting on me, but for some reason I suck at picking a gay guy out of a crowd." I laid my head on the table in an attempt to cover the blush up. Not that that didn't hide the fact that my big fluffy tail was trying desperately to relocate itself under the table to hide itself and failing miserably. I felt Jeff's paw on my head as he pet me softly and said, "Hey don't worry, with me you'll be getting out a whole lot more. I promise." I brought my head up and saw his smile. I felt myself physically calm down as I stared into his sweet eyes. Just then, the waiter, a five-foot raccoon, came by and took out orders. I ordered the fajitas while Jeff got a steak (figures). It seemed Ten had been here a while longer because his food soon came up. He said it was chicken fried steak, which looked nice, but to me, nothing could beat a fajita from Chilies. I finally noticed that he had a bag next to him in the seat and as a means to keep the conversation going I decided to ask, "So, whacha got in that bag?" After he swallowed the food in his mouth, he reached in and pulled out a notebook of sorts. He then handed it to Jeff and said, "Those would be my drawings." "Ah, so you're an artist." Jeff said opening the notebook. I saw Ten glance at Jeff, "Probably best if you didn't hold that up," Ten said, and Jeff quickly set it on the table. I leaned over and quickly saw why he had said that. It was a very well drawn picture of the Ten; the only problem (if you call such a thing a problem) was that Ten was wearing nothing but a thong. If this was, what the husky looked like without so many clothes on then whomever he was with was a very lucky guy. "Don't worry," he continued, "That's about the 'worst' you'll see in there. The rest are pretty tame. And if you're wonderin', yes, they are all drawn by me. Though they aren't that good..." "What are you talking about, these are all really great." Jeff said flipping through the pages. He wasn't hiding his blush, but then again, he'd be making it overly obvious if he tried and he knew it. I, too, was blushing. It was like walking into your friend's room and seeing them half-naked. It's embarrassing, but it gets even worse when you find out that you find them attractive. "Yeah, really," I said, trying to think about something other than the drawing, "You could make some money if your that good." He didn't even try to hide the smug smile on his face, or his own blush, as he said, "Well I do take commissions from my friends and other people that come up to me with money and an idea. But I like to draw for fun, which is the real reason why I started drawing in the first place." "Sounds like a good enough reason," Jeff said turning the notebook and handing it to me. "So, how much for a drawing?" I looked at Jeff curiously, the wolf continued to look at Ten and ignore my stares. "Depends on what it is you ask me to draw," the husky said, giving Jeff a curious glance. "Why, what did you have in mind?" "Well, I didn't really have anything in mind, but if I think of anything can I have your number so if maybe something does come to mind I can request it?" I haven't known Jeff for long but anybody could have known that he had something on his mind with the way he answered that question. I didn't say anything though and continued to look through Ten's art, occasionally looking at Ten through the corner of my eye. I saw Ten scribble what could only be his number on a piece of paper and handed it to Jeff. "If you want you can call me too," he said smiling at me. "I don't think I have money to spare for an artwork, as nice as these are." I said politely. "Well gee; I didn't know that I was only good for some art and not as a friend." He gave a little laugh, "Just 'cause I draw art doesn't mean I don't hang out. And if ya need someone to talk to my phone is almost always on...almost." "Thanks, I'll remember that," I said as Jeff handed me the paper after he put it in his phone. I did the same and put it into my pocket. I then handed back the notebook and soon after the drinks came. We got by with some idle conversation before our own food came, which was about the time Ten paid for his meal and left, giving us both hugs as he left. When he did leave I turned to Jeff and said, "Don't worry, I thought he was cute too." He sighed, "Yeah, I know, I could tell by the blush. But it was still good to hear it. Made me a little uncomfortable when I saw you looking at it." "Yeah, but the fact that you were so worried about it kinda makes me feel better. As long as you didn't get his number just to ask him out then I don't think I have much to worry about." "Wait...why do you say that?" "I have my reasons, now, let's do what we came here to do and get to know each other." As much as I was dreading this, I knew I had to do it. "I've never been really good at the whole, 'getting to know you' kind of thing so I'm sorry if this doesn't get interesting." "Don't worry about it so much and you'll be fine. And there's really no rush so we can just take our time." "Alright, so do you want to start this off?" "Sure. How bout we start off with where you're from?" Well we talked about each other, finding out that we came from almost two sides of the country, we had very similar interests and we had similar majors in college. Similar as in he wanted to be an Automotive engineer and I wanted to be an Automotive Mechanic. He made the designs and inner workings of a car and I fixed what happened after those things feel apart, in a manner of speaking. We already knew of each other's likes for video games and got into a heavy discussion about the future of games. Which led to Halo 3, and eventually ended up in a brief discussion about exploding chickens, but how it got there is beyond me. I was starting to see that my friends (and my own) worries had been unneeded and that Jeff was really a good, funny guy. He only avoided one question and that was if he had been in another relationship. He did say he had, but when he said it, I could tell it wasn't an easy subject for him. As much as I wanted to find out what was wrong, I didn't want to be pushy so I decided that if he wanted to tell me then he would when he felt like he should. Other than the curious first relationship he answered all of my questions and at the end of the conversation we finally paid for our meal and left. In the car, we set up our next date, which he seemed just as happy as I did in continuing, next week. He drove back to the campus to drop me off and as I stepped out of the truck I said, "Thanks for taking me out to dinner." Before closing the door and before he could reply, I leaned back into the cab and hugged the surprised wolf, kissing him on the cheek. Taken slightly aback at this he stammered, "Y-your welcome," and blushed slightly. I could see the smile on his face grow as I closed the door and stood there looking at him through the side window. We waved and I watched him drive away on the sidewalk in front of the dorms. I happily made my way back to the dorm room and by the time I reached the door to the room it was almost seven. As I entered I noticed that my roommate was not back from wherever he went so I jumped on my bed, not bothering to remove my clothes, and closed my eyes and ran the dinner conversation through my head. I knew it would be hard to wait for the next time that we met, but it would be worth it and I knew it. What I did worry about was the question of his last relationship. My only concern was what had gone so wrong with it that could cause that sort of reaction from him. I finally decided that the right thing to do would be to let him decide when to tell me, and then help him through it if he needed it. As I lay there I began to relax as I thought about the happier points of the evening again and I began to slowly drift off to sleep. Dreaming again of the wolf and his arms wrapped around mine, and then he was gone as quickly as he had appeared. And that is where the dream turned on me.
