Chapter 2: New Life

'Where am I? Who am I? What am I?' were the only thoughts going through my mind, as I pushed against the warm walls of my prison only for the walls to expand and then contract around me. This happened for the next couple of hours, the walls of my prison expanding and contracting, until suddenly it stopped the warm prison I was once trapped in was gone replaced with what felt like freezing cold air. As the cool air hit my hide I opened my mouth and took my first breath.

I started to whine and shiver in the cold air until I was wrapped in something very soft. As I was lifted into the air I started to whine once more, until I heard a humming sound which calmed me down. I was then placed down onto something that was soft and warm, which I soon identified through my sense of smell, as my mother.

My instincts took over as I started to crawl in search of sustenance, my nose guided me towards a small mound and my mind knew exactly what to do, mouth latched on to it and started to suckle from it, as a warm liquid filled my mouth and triggered me to swallow. When my belly was full my mind started to tune out and soon not even the loudest noise in the world would wake me.

When I finally awoke, my eyes opened to the loving gaze of my mother. Many thoughts raced through my mind but one thought dominated all others. 'This is her. This is my mother, but where is my father? Who is my father?' I thought as I looked around the room trying to find my father only to see my mum and myself. I looked down in disappointment that my father wasn't here. That is if I even had a father. I started to whine again until once more I heard the calming hum of my mother.

I lay on my mother's chest for some time before I heard a new voice. "Auntie Tali!! Where is he? Can I see him? Please, Please, Please, Please, Please!!!" Squealed an excited young wolven as she ran up to my mother and looked like she wasn't going to stop. I started whimpering at all the noise. "Calm down Alice you're scaring him" exclaimed my mother as Alice slowed down and walked up to the bed. "Sorry Auntie...He is beautiful, have you got a name for him yet?" questioned Alice.

"Yes his name is Jaidas" replied my mother a small trickle of tears falling from her eyes. Seeing my mother's tears made me in turn nuzzle into her chest trying to comfort her. "Auntie, why did you name him Jaidas?" asked Alice. "I named him Jaidas because of his father" replied my mother tears still falling from her eyes. "Auntie, where is his father?" Alice asked in a soft comforting tone.

My mother lost the caring face she normally had and it was replaced with a look that frightened me, her eyes where down cast with shadows under them. "He was...He was murdered three months ago" my mother spoke in a tone laced with pain and sadness.

With this sudden change in my mother's voice, I started to whimper. This quickly stopped when my mother spoke "calm down, don't be sad my son. Your father is likely at the gates of Eltoran with Kibaros by now."

"You don't belong here in Eltoran, turn back at once or I shall slice you in half" echoed a ghostly voice.

"Kibaros stop. That is no way to treat our guest" echoed another ghostly voice.

I looked around the room searching for where these two voices came from. After two minutes of searching, my tiny body finally gave up. My eyes started to feel heavy and my mouth opened as I released a short high pitched yawn. "Aw...he must be tired. I'll leave you and Jaidas alone for now" spoke Alice as she turned to leave "See you later auntie."

See you later Alice" spoke my mother. I started to fall asleep on my mother's chest, her calm heartbeat, the gentle rise and fall of her chest and the gentle embrace she held me in, made me feel safe and secure. With that I fell asleep for the night.
