Story by Zigzak on SoFurry

An innocent horse gets captured by Lions who wish to fatten him.

Pretty short for one of my stories, it was meant to be an ongoing project, but as of now I have not written any more as I am working on 'The Dragon And The Steed'

Captured by Lions

Prologue:

The streets were dark and lonely, save for a few lonely scraps of paper being blown around under the orange bath emanating from the dimly lit street lights. Doors were locked, businesses were closed and shutters pulled down over windows.

A sound of footsteps in the distance pierced through the nights silence like a needle through a balloon. As they drew closer the urgency seemed to increase, each step seemed to come slightly quicker than the last until the perpetrator burst in to an all out run. The pounding of feet cut ever more through the silence of the deserted street. Their rhythm less than steady, would have been heard as clearly as a war drum through a poorly constructed plaster board wall, even if they had been a mile away.

With an explosion of rubbish and a terrible clatter, a stallion catapulted himself ungracefully around a corner and in to the alleyway in which he sought to seek refuge, only to run head on in to a dust bin.

Raymond watched the exhausted horse from the shadows of the alley. Flexing his paws, he knew that he was easily within striking distance of the horse, his empty belly urged him forwards.

The stallion had easily been worn down, he leant against the wall panting furiously. It would have been easy for the young lion, all he needed to do was knock the pathetic creature unconscious.

But no, it was his first time hunting, and he had been told that most of them were an equal match to any lion. He did not need to remind himself that he in fact was not as capable as the average hunting lion, as with most young males now he was used to the comfortable life and was simply not used to hunting. He would stick to the plan and wait for the rest of the hunting party to arrive.

The wait was not long, the rest of his party were experienced and wasted no time in blocking the stallions exit route. They did so with such precision and silence that the doomed equine did not even lift his head to meet his pursuers, perhaps for the better, he was outnumbered and would only spend his last few minutes in this alley in panic, kinder that he be knocked out unawares.

The largest of the lions blocking the end of the alley closed in behind the horses back. Only a few strides away did he stand on a piece of rubbish that had been knocked out of the bin. In a swift movement he jumped, only for the stallion to spin around and catch the big cat in the side of the head with an elbow. He fell against the wall, clutching his head in pain.

The horse dived for the exit of the alley only to be grappled by another lion that appeared as if from nowhere, he grappled furiously, freedom was only around the corner. Then darkness covered his eyes and consciousness slipped from him.

"Good job Raymond, not bad for your first hunt." Said the lioness who had grappled with the horse.

The larger lion who had initiated the attack stumbled over from the wall clutching the side of his head.

"Good is what you called that? No respectable lion requires a weapon to take down a stallion, aside from his claws." He said, pointing at the dustbin lid that the young lion had used to knock out the horse.

"May I remind you Abbas, that he is the one who rendered this stallion unconscious, not you! What he lacks in body he certainly makes up for in quick thinking and resourcefulness."

Abbas did not argue back, he knew his place. While he was the larger of the two, she was far more experienced.

"Thank you." Said Raymond gratefully, it really meant something to him that an experienced hunter such as her self would freely give compliments to one so inexperienced.

The lionesses ears perked up. "Now we must leave before the equine guard show up."

And with that Abbas picked the horse up and slung him over his shoulder as if he weight as much as a mere house cat.

"Not bad at all." The lioness said, patting the horses rear. "He is already plump, he will fatten nicely."

The end?
