The Dark: Chapter One

Zion groaned as the alarm clock beside his bed resounded with its daily wake up call. He groaned and slapped the snooze button. He quickly fell back into sleep and the dream the alarm had pulled him out of. In it, he and a wolf and a fox were enjoying an intimate moment. It was not a casual sex romp either. It felt like he had known them for years, though he could not remember their names. As dreams are known to be, it made no sense to him but it did in its' own way, again as dreams do while one is in them. Before the dream could reveal more to him, the alarm clock sounded its annoying call once more. The dragon reached over and switched it off. He lay still for a moment, his body slowly awaking itself from its slumber. He reflected on the dream and wondered who the fox and wolf were, or what they represented in his dream. Probably nothing but he couldn't shake the feeling that it did mean something. Shaking his head to rid it of the last tendrils of sleep, he began thinking of his day ahead. His quarters were quiet, the start of a new day loomed before him. He groaned as he sat up and opened his eyes. He blinked as they slowly adjusted themselves to the lights that had switched on automatically. After several moments, his eyesight cleared. He looked around his quarters, they were sparsely decorated. He had always been a dragon of simple tastes and found no joy in material possessions. Unlike most dragons, physical treasure had never appealed to him. Instead, knowledge was his treasure. He had spent his life seeking it.

Zion slowly arose from the bed and stretched his body. His muscles already limbering up from the stiffness of sleep and preparing for the day's work ahead of him. He walked to the bathroom attached to his quarters and looked into the mirror, closely studying his reflection in it. His body was tight and lean, his scales were black as night, and his eyes were ice blue. He smiled and splashed his face with water from the sink. He stepped back and smiled, his body was lean and curvy. Even though he may have always been classified as a geek, he had indeed gotten the looks associated with young dragons. His curves were always something others had admired. He dressed himself with his uniform and walked to the door. He carried the rank of sub commander, though he was a civilian. He was part of a secret project tasked with building a better space ship. It was not something he was overly proud of, but work was work nonetheless.

He stepped out of his quarters and headed to his office. He was stationed at a secret base on one of the moons orbiting Mars. Mars had long ago been colonized by earth, however its moons had not been. They were small and could have served as an orbiting space port if Mars had need of such a thing in its youth but instead had been taken over by the military and so were off limits to the civilian population. Mars' surface had been terraformed into a lush, green paradise. Cities had been built and any sign of the formerly red planet had been transformed by its new inhabitants into green. However its moons had been long ignored during that process. Twenty years previous the federation had made surveys of the moons for mineral purposes. None had been found; instead they discovered something much more valuable. Buried and forgotten lay the remains of an ancient laboratory.

It was generally believed that the present occupants of the universe had been the second evolution of life. The first had been a race of beings only known as the ancients. Many signs had been left as evidence of their existence but no living representatives remained today. It was a mystery as to where they had gone or why they were no longer here. Though much speculation had been made, there was no concrete answers about what had happened. Regardless, the left behind artifacts had been happily made use of by the people who had found it. Upon discovery of the facility, the military had taken control and classified it, as militaries and governments have done for all of history. Once it had been explored and the nature of the artifacts had been discovered, Zion had been called in as a consultant. As the project progressed, it was discovered that the laboratory housed a crystal reactor.

Such technology had been long sought after, yet was far beyond their current level of ability to create. The crystal had long burned away, but the remains of it and the machinery left had allowed them to narrow down the matrix and composition of the crystal to one of only a few possibilities. This let them focus their research into fewer paths, greatly speeding up the research and experiments needed to find the right one. After considerable trial and error, a fit was discovered and it was brought online. There were problems with it and the reactor was only capable of power output significantly lower than current theories said it should be capable of producing. That was why Zion had been brought in from his civilian job.

Zion walked into his office and smiled. Sitting on the couch at the back of the room was Admiral Leo Drago. Admiral Drago was both his supervisor as well as a family member. The dragon smiled at Zion and stood up to greet him. The cousins hugged tightly and smiled. The admiral began, "Zion, looking as fit as ever I see. This project is treating you well." Zion laughed and replied, "Long days, little sleep, and more stress than I need, so I wouldn't exactly say well. How are you?" Leo laughed and told him, "Long days, little sleep, and more stress than I need, so the same as you it seems. I came to check your progress with the project and deliver a little unwelcome news but lets start with how you are doing. Zion nodded and said, "Alright," as he took a seat and went on, "We brought the reactor up to eighty percent yesterday with little problem. It was trying for ninety percent that we ran into a hitch. Much over that and the crystal begins to destabilize. I detected an odd harmonic vibration in the matrix and foreign particles being emitted from it that I've never seen before. I have no idea what they are or where they came from. I suspect they are the cause of the instability, rather than a side effect from it." The admiral nodded and became serious, "I am glad to hear progress has been made but something has come up and I am going to have to pull you off of this in favor of a more urgent project. You have a new goal. Effective today, you are transferred to new assignment. You are being given the status of sub-commander. You will be second in command of our newest space ship. I say second in command rather than commander because your battle experience is limited and you need to be able to focus on your primary duty.

Unknown to you, while you were working on this, we built and installed a modern version of this reactor upon a ship. The ship is named the Horizon and it is to be the first of our new line of battleships."

Zion stood up and eyed Leo with a touch of ire as he protested, "Damn it Leo! The technology is not stable enough to be used in that way. We have nearly blown up this station several times trying to get the core up to this level. Now you want to put it in a ship that is not as stable as the base and a battle ship no less? You had no right to use my research notes behind my back." Leo shook his head and said, "You have always been too cautious. Our experts have reviewed your notes and assure me that eighty percent power output will be more than enough to keep the ship running and you will have control of it and your research can continue." Zion shook his head in protest and said, "You can't do this! A ship can't hold the equipment or personnel I need. Furthermore, did you not hear what I just said. I have no idea why its producing those particles or their effect on live tissue. There are a thousand things that could go wrong with this!"

Leo sighed and looked distant for a moment before saying, "Look, we don't have any choice. There's more to this than you understand. *sigh* This is highly classified and is not to go beyond this room, understand me? You see, several months ago we dispatched a probe deep into unexplored space. There we discovered a new race of beings, as yet unnamed. From what we can tell, they are the largest threat we have ever known. The world we found . . . well, this image will show you what we face." Leo sat a small circular device onto the coffee table in front of him. He pressed a button and the image of a world was projected into the air in front of them. Its surface was burned and marked with large craters, the atmosphere was gone, and there were little signs of anything ever being there. Leo explained, "We launched a probe years ago and this is what the world was at that time." He pressed yet another button and the image changed. The world below was lush and green, several major cities were evident. "In the span of a year between passes of our probe, the planet was completely wiped out by this." With yet another push of a button, a ship was displayed. Zion studied the image with interest as he asked, "What is it Leo?" Leo shook his head and answered, "We do not know. Its tear drop shape allows it to travel extremely fast but we have no idea what they are or what they want. Only that they are coming and in their wake, they left this planet in the state you see it."

Zion shook his head, "How do you know they are coming here Leo?" Leo looked worried as he said, "Because we traced the radiation path they have left behind and it indicates that they are headed in this general direction. It is only a matter of time before they pick up our communication signals and traces of our ships. That will be a beacon that will lead the right to us. Now, you have three days before the ship will be ready to leave. You will go to Mars and await there with two other transfers we have handpicked to assist you. The rank you have been given is no longer an honorary one. If you make it necessary, you will be drafted into service cousin. This threat has been deemed so serious that if we need to, Marshal Law will be issued and all civil rights suspended until it is dealt with. I have my orders and now, so do you. I expect you to do your best and make our family proud. Good luck Zion and may the ancestors grant you good fortune." With that Leo stood and hugged his cousin warmly before taking his leave.

Zion had packed his possessions and gone planet side to Mars Colony for some down time. The music blasted and the bass boomed as Zion made his way through the crowds on the street. He made his way into the bar and ordered himself a drink. It had been a rough day for him. He had been abruptly uprooted and had to pack up what things he could take with him. He gave a derisive chuckle silently to himself and thought it likely the new "threat" was a bullshit excuse to build a bigger warship.

The federation had been slowly building up its forces ever since their consolidation of power. Close to a hundred years previous the entire sector had been embroiled in a civil war. The individual empires had nearly destroyed themselves before Earth had suddenly sprung forth with an idea to calm the tension. Out of desperation, the Federation of Empires had been formed. Ever since that point they had been slowly building up their forces. This new ship was the biggest advance thus far, yet Zion was afraid. He knew the technology was not ready and had not had the time needed to shake out all the bugs new technology was rife with. He sipped his drink, the grunted as the liquid burned its way down his throat. The previous inhabitants of the facility had obviously abandoned the technology, and that in of itself concerned him. He had examined the research notes of its previous inhabitants and several areas of them mentioned the inherent instability of the technology. As he surveyed the crowd, he spotted two figures enter the bar with a purpose. One was a wolf, the other a fox and both wore uniforms of the military. He watched the two approach and studied their movements. As he studied them, he was struck with a feeling of deja vue. He had never seen them before but he felt as if he had known them from somewhere. Before he could think more on this, they stood in front of him. Zion smiled and asked, "Can I help you friends? The wolf smiled and gave a salute before saying, "My name is Niko and this is Andrew. We are here on reassignment, the same as you." Zion nodded without giving anything away and asked, "How do you know who I am?"

Andrew chuckled at that and answered, "I am the ships new head of security. It's my job to know the personnel of the ship I am stationed on." Zion nodded and asked, "And you, Niko?"

Niko chuckled, "I am the ships' chief engineer but I am told you carry the rank of Sub Commander and will be in charge of the engineering team. That makes you my boss."

Zion nodded and extended his paw as he said, "My name is Zion Drago, I am a civilian but do carry an honorary rank. They transferred me to this position only yesterday." Niko chuckled and said, "Such is the way of the military. Do you have any idea what is so special about this ship or what our mission is?" Zion chuckled a bit sourly and said, "Let's just say, it's a death trap." Niko gave a brief nod and said, "Most ships are."

Niko and Andrew sat down beside Zion. After getting drinks for themselves, the three began talking and exchanging stories. Niko and Andrew had served together on a colony. They had been friends and became lovers. Sexuality was something that was no longer taboo. Humans had long believed that sexuality was shared only between males and females. That had changed when they began to go out into space and encountered other civilizations. The other species had long embraced sexuality as a way to share themselves on a level not otherwise possible. It brought them closer and helped eliminate the frictions of learning to live alongside each other. It was much harder to look down on or despise those who could become friends and lovers.

Zion smiled at the two and said, "I can tell that you two are very close. I am glad you both can serve on this ship together." Andrew chuckled and said without shame, "Yes, Niko and myself have shared some wonderful times together. Back on the colony we had a little house that faced west. We used to sit outside and cuddle as the sun set." Niko blushed slightly and Zion smiled. He was glad to see these two were close. As Zion eyed the two, a strange feeling washed over him. He felt as though he had to get nearer to the pair. In fact, the urge to mark these two new friends came over him. It was something so compelling yet so primal in nature that he scarcely questioned it. Instead, he grinned at them and suggested, "Gentlemen, why don't we continue our conversation in my hotel room? It's just next door to this club and more conducive to some quiet conversation." Niko and Andrew smiled and nodded agreement to the offer. Though nothing had been said, all three felt the excitement and attraction to each other. Draining their drinks, the three stood and made their way outside to Zion's hotel.

Zion swiped his key card in the door and pushed it open. He stumbled into the room as Niko and Andrew followed him in. Andrew closed the door and Zion turned and took Niko into his arms. The dragon held the wolf tightly in his arms and kisses the wolf passionately. Andrew walked behind them and wrapped his arms around the dragon. The three stood, as if all time was frozen. Their bodies grinding upon each other, all intent on becoming closer. Slowly, they moved as one, stumbling their way to the bed. As the trio reached the bed they fell upon it.

Zion lay on the bed, Andrew and Niko shifting around till they were laying on top of him, kissing and licking his face. Niko began to unbutton Zion's shirt as Andrew worked on his pants. The couple worked as one, trying to lay bare their new friend so they could devour his sleek beauty with their eyes. The dragon murred with pleasure as his tail twitched with content.

With the dragon now nude, Andrew and Niko quickly removed their own clothes and once again lay upon the dragon. Now, the sensation of fur against scales heightened the sensual feelings flowing between them. The scent of their arousal began to fill the room. Zion's cock slowly emerged from its slit. Andrew smiled and slowly licked his way down the dragon's body. Zion shuddered at the attention of the two males. There were no awkward moments between the three. It was as if each knew what to do, where to touch and just how to excite the other. Andrew slowly took hold of the dragon's hardening meat, drawing it towards his muzzle. As the fox's silky tongue wrapped around the hot shaft, Zion gasped, his eyes going unfocused with the pleasure. Niko locked his muzzle with Zion's and kissed the dragon aggressively. Passion flowed between the three as Andrew lapped feverishly at the cock in his muzzle. Seeing it glisten with his saliva and leaking pre-cum, Andrew grinned as he sat up, his tail waving playfully behind him. He looked up at his wolf lover and friend, muzzle locked with the dragon. Seeing Zion looking down at him thru one eye, Andrew giggled and gave a cute little pout as he teased, "Does the horny dwaggy want some foxy ass?"

Zion nodded eagerly and murred agreement while keeping his mouth and tongue busy with Niko. Andrew turned around on the bed, going down on his elbows and knees as he presented his rear to the now very horny dragon. Niko released his kiss and turned his head to look lovingly at his foxy friend. He knew quite well how Andrew could pose and excite him with his sexy body. He wanted to watch and enjoy the effect it had on the dragon.

Zion looked between the two friends, a feeling of intense desire flowed through him. He got to his knees behind the fox and smiled. He ran his paw through the fox's back fur, caressing and stroking. This action brought pleasure to both males and Niko smiled, watching them both. His turn would come soon enough. Andrew's tail rose, exposing the pucker under its' base to the dragon.

Zion shifted behind him and wrapped his arms around the fox's chest. Zion's penis produced its' own lubrication naturally, so he was not concerned about hurting the fox as he pressed his meat against the fox's warm pucker. Andrew moaned softly as Zion slowly pushed and his meat into him. Zion slowly hilted himself into Andrew and moaned loudly. It was so tight and warm! He held the fox tightly against his body, relishing the feel of his trim muscled and softly furred body against his scales. Niko watched the two and noticed as Zion raised his tail. It was an obvious invitation and one Niko was happy to accept. He had been patient and now that was about to be rewarded. As the dragon sucked and nibbled on Andrew's neck, Niko positioned himself behind the dragon. He brought his meat into the dragon's vent and found the entrance of his anus, positioned behind the base of the dragon's engorged prick. He moaned loudly as the warmth of the dragon's insides surrounded the wolf's member. The trio moaned as the excitement of a new conquest and passion flowed through them. The alcohol of the evening was flowing thru their blood streams, loosening their control, dulling their senses. Animalistic instincts claimed the evening and Zion drove himself repeatedly into Andrew. The fox moaned and counter thrust to the Dragon's movements. As each worked for the others pleasure, the three slowly became one. One heart and one mind, focused on the pleasure of their comrades. Zion roared loudly as he came in Andrew, his seed jetting into the receptive fox's' bowels. Andrew moaned and sprayed his foxy cream on the bed, his tail hole squeezing with each spurt, milking further thrills from Zion. Niko shook as he forced his knot deep into Zion's orgasming body. He filled his new friend with his cream. All three moaned and panted as aftershocks or pleasure arced thru their bodies. Andrew panted out, "Stay in me." as he began to lay down. Zion followed, very pleased to do as requested and Niko was forced to follow as he was still locked inside Zion. The three males cuddled together as sleep claimed them, one by one.

Zion awoke and groaned, his head pounded and his body ached, making known its disapproval of the previous night's drinking. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around him. He blinked as his eyes as they adjusted to the light flooding his hotel room. Beside him was Andrew and still on top of him was Niko. The room smelled of alcohol and sex, yet he couldn't remember much of the night's events. It had been a while since Zion had had a night like it seemed he must have had last night. He groaned and slid out from under his new friend then stumbled his way to the bathroom. He sat on the toilet and began to release the contents from the previous night and snaked his head to look into the mirror. On both of his shoulders were bite marks from his sleeping friends.

He rubbed his eyes as flashes of the night began to make their way to his consciousness. The memories made him smile as he recalled the passion and intensity of the night. Done with the toilet, he stood up and started the shower. As he adjusted the water, arms wrapped around his chest and pulled him against a furry body. Zion smiled and said warmly, "Good morning Andrew." The fox chuckled and asked, "How did you know it was me?" Zion laughed as he explained, "It's a gift, just as I know Niko is still asleep where I left him." Andrew nodded as Zion turned around and took him into his arms, saying, "I am proud to have you two as friends."

Andrew smiled and thought a second before saying, "It's odd, I can feel you now as I have always felt Niko." Zion nodded, "indeed . . . we are linked for life now." The two stood and looked into each other's eyes. No words needed to be said, as each could feel the other in an intimate way neither had ever considered before. In such a short time they had become the best of friends and much more. Zion looked deep into the fox's eyes. The previous night he had felt a strange urge to mark the two strangers. As though they were destined for each other. He hadn't understood the urge, but nature forced him to follow it. Now the three were linked in ways that Niko and Andrew could never understand. That was wonderful but it also was a responsibility that Zion took very seriously. Zion stepped into the running shower, and pulled Andrew in after him. Water ran over their bodies, loosening and washing away the dirt and bodily fluids of the previous day. Andrew smiled as he watched water run over Zion's smooth scaly body. It clung to his curves and gave him a graceful look. It was almost as if he were a statue in a fountain. As the pair stood under the spray, looking into each other's eyes and souls, they shared feelings thru their new link. What neither knew is that a bond had been formed that would carry them beyond their wildest dreams.
