When friends are realized

I awoke to the insistent pinging, not so unlike the pinging of a alarm clock. Like at home, I swung my hand to slap my alarm clock. *Crap, sounds like something broke.* Broke? How could something have broken when all I have on that desk is a alarm clock? And why is it still pinging? Finally cracking open my eyes, the events of the past few days came rushing back. But even then, the room I had fallen asleep in had changed dramatically. For starters, the walls had changed to my favorite color, a light blue, while the ceiling had changed to look the stars that I was familiar to, and I'm guessing that this world's stars were completely different from Earth's. Everything that didn't run on electricity was there. Scratch that, the quartz clock was here.

Of all the things that I might've wanted in the world of things past. Drat.

Stupid pinging. I searched the room for the source, which my new body proved useful. The wall was pinging and pulsing slightly. Touching it, it went black, and Walker's voice came through. "Mr Staris wants to see you when you wake up." What a talker.

My body remembered the way to Mr. Staris's office better than my mind had, and I was there in a few minutes. Glancing through the door, Mr. Staris noticed me, and motioned me. Sitting, I stared until he got to the point. "Seeing as this is your first day here, I've decided that you should have a guide for the day, and he has most of his classes with you." Then, away from me. "Furnace, come here."

Crap. I'm so not prepared to handle this situation yet.

Furnace came in and gave no sign of knowing me. Thinking about it quickly, I realize that he had only heard my voice, and only knew my name, which Mr. Staris hadn't said yet.

I realized that Mr. Staris is talking to me. I start to listen.

"And so Furnace will show you around and answer any questions that you may have. Now go and get aquatinted."

Outside I try to figure out a way to tell him who I am. He interrupts my thoughts. "As Mr. Staris said, I am Furnace. I'm one of the more easy-going people around here, which is probably why Mr. Staris told me to show you around." Furnace said. "We have about 30 minutes before class starts, and I feel that I should show you around the main complex."

He said more, but a familiar feeling came through me, sudden and unwanted. I had hoped that I had left the black outs behind, but it didn't look like it. I fell to the ground, unconscious.

-this feels different than any other I've had.-

Me, in a bed, human.

-what?-

Hooked up to a I.V., in a hospital.

  • but thats impossible-

My foster parents around me.

-i've never been in a hospital before-

Black.

Then, a voice. Furnace's.

"Damn, the first thing the new kid does is faint on me." "Why does it always happen to me?

If I was awake, I would've smiled.

'Furnace, its okay.' I said/thought.

_"Damn, that voice is back. GET OUT!!!" _

'But don't you realize who this is?'

"Do I Care?"

'Yes'

"Fine, tell me"

' One hint. I'm on the ground in front of you.'

A feeling of understanding came through. Then acceptance. Finally annoyance.

"Why does this always have to happen to me?"

I laugh inwardly.
