A squicky fairy tale!

There once was a Rabbit who lived in the forest. His fur was soft and silky, the light color of hazelnuts. He was very sad, for he had just had a terrible row at home. He sat on the soft green grass, a tear streaming down from his clear blue eyes. His ears were down and he had a most dejected look to him.

Around this way, a smaller creature than even the Rabbit happened to pass. So small that it barely bent the leaves of grass as it travelled. It could have easily escaped the Rabbit's notice, but the tearful Rabbit was such a sorry sight that the creature could not allow itself to simply pass.

Excuse me! cried a small voice.

Yes? Hello? answered the Rabbit, looking around. His eyes looked and looked, but he could not find the creature.

Down here, if you please! said he. The Rabbit looked down. Between his legs where he had stretched them out to sit sadly, was a Slug.

Oh! Hello! said the Rabbit, trying to hide his tears.

Hello! said the Slug. Why are you crying? He asked.

I am crying because I am very sad, answered the Rabbit. And it is very complex.

The Slug nodded, shaking what the Rabbit considered its head on the small black body.

Can you go home and be happy? asked the Slug. He dearly loved to help people and suggested this obvious answer.

No! said the Rabbit. I am sad because of home! The Rabbit looked as though he would cry again.

Then why not take a trip? said the Slug. I am going on one and I am very happy, he continued.

Where are you going? asked the Rabbit.

I am going to the Kingdom of Bliss answered the Slug. He looked very proud for a Slug, and indeed, very happy.

That sounds like a lovely trip, said the Rabbit. I wish I could go, he said softly.

Why don't we travel together? said the Slug cheerfully. I don't mind company and the Kingdom of Bliss is a wonderful place.

The Rabbit looked back in the direction of home before he stood and answered the Slug. Thank you! I would love to see the Kingdom of Bliss, he smiled. His ears were lifted and he sniffed back the last of his tears.

Very well, said the Slug. We can go there together, he explained as he began sliding through the grass again.

Five minutes had passed and the Slug had not left the shadow of the Rabbit. He was a very small creature and could not go very quickly. The Rabbit was very excited to see the Kingdom of Bliss and could not be patient.

You're moving very slowly, the Rabbit said crossly. We will never finish our trip at this pace!

The Slug looked sad that he was slowing his new friend down. The Rabbit realized he had been terribly rude and reached down to lift the Slug. He held his new friend in his hands and smiled, despite the gooey feeling like jam on his fingers.

I can move very quickly! the Rabbit laughed. If you would like, I can carry you while we travel to the Kingdom of Bliss.

The Slug found it most agreeable to travel in this fashion. The Rabbit held the small creature carefully as he walked and walked.

And then, the path out of the woods came to a fork and the Rabbit was confused.

Which way shall we go? asked the Rabbit. He waited and could hear a very faint voice in reply.

Which way shall we go? Speak up, please! said the Rabbit again.

I am saying! said the Slug. Only by shouting could such a small creature be heard. He had to shout to get the Rabbit to hear him.

The Rabbit understood the problem immediately. He raised the Slug up to his shoulder, much closer so that by keeping quiet, he could hear the Slug's small voice.

Oh, thank you! said the Slug. That's much better! We should go left if we want to reach the Kingdom of Bliss.

The Rabbit nodded and they set off again. The Slug was very well travelled for such a small creature.

It was a lovely day with a clear sky and bright sun. The Rabbit greatly enjoyed travel on such a day, especially if he would get to see the Kingdom of Bliss.

It was very warm for the Slug, though. For such a small creature, the sun was too bright and too hot. And there were no clouds to protect him as he sat on the Rabbit's shoulder. There were no leaves he could rest under or tall flowers that would protect him from the heat. The only cool and shadowy place was under the Rabbit's long ears.

Excuse me! cried the Slug. It's very hot and I feel very faint under the bright sun.

Oh! said the Rabbit. What shall we do? There was nowhere for the small creature to hide from the hot, bright sun.

Could I ask you a very small favor? said the Slug. The Rabbit had already been such a kind companion that it bothered him greatly to ask.

Yes, of course! said the Rabbit. He stopped and watched the Slug on his shoulder.

Would you let me rest inside your long ear? said the Slug. It's the only place with very nice shadows away from the sun.

The Rabbit's nose twitched at this strange request. It was very peculiar for one's travelling companion to hide in one's ear. But the Slug was a small creature and could not stand the hot sun and bright day riding on his shoulder. The Kingdom of Bliss could not be far now, and it would not do for the Slug to faint before they had arrived.

You may make yourself comfortable inside my ear, said the Rabbit. He dearly wanted to see the Kingdom of Bliss.

Oh! Thank you! said the Slug. He sat quite still as the Rabbit gently picked him up and raised the small creature to his ear. It would be much cooler there.

The Rabbit felt a funny tickle at his long ear as the Slug's body moved inside. He had only asked to rest in the shadows away from the sun, but the small creature dribbled goo deep into his ears. The Slug's body felt very strange against the soft, silky fur of the Rabbit's ears. He was quite proud of his ears and kept them with great care.

Excuse me! cried the Rabbit. It feels very strange to have you moving inside my ears like that.

The Slug did not answer. The Rabbit felt more of his new friend's body enter where the slime was already trickling down into his ears. Very little of the Slug's body lay outside the Rabbit's ears.

It was very comfortable inside the Rabbit's ears for the Slug. He moved deeper inside, until all of his small black body was deep inside the Rabbit's ears.

The Rabbit's eyes were very wide now and their color was glassy. His mouth hung open. His new friend felt strange and wonderful so deep inside his ear. The Rabbit worried if the very small creature would ever want to leave such a comfortable place.

Thank you so much for letting me inside your ears, said the Slug.

The Rabbit did not answer. He felt very rude staying silent, but found he could not move his lips or his mouth or his tongue to reply to his new friend. He could not move at all.

The Slug moved for him. It felt very strange until the Rabbit heard from the Slug inside his ears that this was better for both of them. The Slug could simply tell the Rabbit which way to walk and which way to go to the Kingdom of Bliss. It was better for the Rabbit to simply do what the very small creature burrowing towards his brain told him.

The Rabbit walked very fast now, feeling wonderful with his new friend so close to him. The Slug explained that they could be very good friends now and help one another. The Rabbit did not notice until they had arrived in front of his door, by the grass where he had say crying, that he was once again home.

The Rabbit reached down to the grass again. He lifted something very small and hid it in his hand before he knocked on the door of his home. The door opened quickly and the Mouse behind it looked very happy to see him. The Mouse hugged and kissed the Rabbit, who listened to his friend the Slug, and also hugged and kissed.

Where have you been? cried the Mouse. I have been very worried and sad. I'm very sorry for our row before.

The Rabbit smiled. I have been to the Kingdom of Bliss, he answered. The very small creature inside his ear and deep in his brain was a wonderful friend who explained what he must say in order for his love not to worry.

The Kingdom of Bliss? asked the Mouse. He had missed the Rabbit deeply and was so relieved to see his love again.

Yes, said the Rabbit. It is a wonderful place and you must see it. He felt light and happy telling the Mouse about the Kingdom of Bliss. The Slug had been so kind to show it to him and teach him how to be happy again.

I would very much like to go there, said the Mouse. He kissed and hugged the chestnut Rabbit as he felt his love's hands on his body. They joined one another on the bed and the Rabbit's body was atop the Mouse's. He was happy to have his love close and did not mind when he kissed him very long.

The Rabbit opened his hand and left what he had picked up next to the Mouse's pillow as they kissed. A new Slug moved slowly to his love's ear. The Mouse felt a strange tickle and a trickle of something wet inside his ear, but he could not move the Rabbit away so he could turn to check his ears.

We will enter the Kingdom of Bliss together, said the Rabbit. His love's eyes were open wide as he lay on the bed under him. His whiskers twitched as the very small creature made itself comfortable and nestled deep inside his ears. The Rabbit was very pleased to share his new friend with his love. They would all be together now.

The Moral is Bliss is inside us All, if we Choose to accept It.
