Due to some unusual instances, things don't always come out as they were meant to be. In this land of pokemon, there is a ratio of 95:5 normal... and unusual. Here, where our story unfolds, we share with you... the unusual, and how Natural Selection plays out in their lives.

There's a squarelike area with yellow stone walkways forming the town square. In the center lies a fountain which features the legendary pokemon, Kyogre, spouting water from its blowhole. The sun of the morning shines over the area. Several pokemon rest near the fountain as Kuro, a special species, walks by it.

The two pokemon that are talking to each other eye the brown pokemon. They whisper to each other, "Look at that..."

"What a freak."

"I can't imagine if I was that way."

"I would kill myself.." The tepig and venipede friends talk back and forth.

Kuro's ears perk as he hears the pokemon talking about him. The words make him flatten his ears again. His

tail droops, and his chin stays low. He looks at his paws as he walks. When he gets out of range of sight of

the other characters, he murmurs to himself.

"What makes me so different? Aren't I a pokemon, just like everybody else? Why are they teasing me..?"

Kuro looks up as he sees that the area around him is starting to fog up as he walks. He's never been to this area before. A cave lets out steam as he watches. He moves closer. Not hot enough to burn him. He walks inside.

The cave is filled with luminous crystals, all glowing in different shades of pinks, greens, whites, and blues. Inside lies a soothing hot spring, steaming and.. with an eevee in the water, looking the other way. It seems to be alone. Kuro approaches the edge of the spring in the cave silently. His gaze shifts from crystal to crystal on the walls and ceiling. He puts a paw into the water which makes a slight noise from the water. He hides his tail that he's heard much about under the water, as not to freak out the eevee afront him.

The eevee turns to the side to look at him through one eye. The other eye stays out of Kuro's sight. "Oh.. another eevee. It's fine. I can share my spot with you for a little while."

The fog blurs Kuro's vision as it enshrouds him while he walks closer to the other eevee. He looks over it, seeing its eyes closed. He could practically feel the relaxation radiating from the pokemon. He decided he would also do it.

His tail slowly lifts unwittingly out of the water. It wags slowly as he feels the comfort of the water start to calm him down. The eevee opens his eyes and looks over Kuro. His eyes widen- the right one green, and the left one blue.

"Y-You're... a freak! Get out of my water!"

"I'M a freak?" Kuro snaps back. "Your eyes...!"

"At least I look like a normal eevee! You're just... What ARE you!?" The eevee shouts.

"I"m..." Kuro's at a loss for words. "I'm..." he stutters. "A normal pokemon... aren't I?" He questions the air.

"You... you don't know?" The eevee asks. "How do you not know... you look so odd! You must be some sort of new species.. but you look most like an eevee."

"Then I'm an eevee," Kuro says. "I don't care. I'm just like everybody else. Why does everyone say I'm different?"

"Because of your tail... and now that I look closely..." the eevee squints its eyes. "Your ears, too. They're different than any eevee I know."

"So what if I'm a little bit different!?" Kuro retorts.

"A little bit?" he asks.

"I'm just like everybody else, despite looks."

"Hmm... maybe..." The eevee thinks to himself. "What's your name?"

"I'm Kuro."

"Skye." He looks Kuro up and down again. "Are you... going to join an exploration guild?"

"A what?" Kuro asks.

"A guild... you know, those groups that go out and do things for people. Solve problems, research places and items... that sort of thing."

"Never heard of them..."

Skye looks surprised at Kuro's last words. "W-Well... anyways. If you do, choose Bouteille. That's where I'm going, soon. I came here to calm my nerves for seeing the guildmaster persian."

"I could go with you. Would it make you more comfortable?" Kuro offers courteously.

Skye smirks. "Knowing there's someone even freakier than I am there? Of course it would make me feel comfortable," he pokes fun at Kuro.

"Sh-Shut up...!" Kuro says.

They spend an hour more relaxing and sharing information with each other in the hot spring.

As they leave the cave that sparkles beauteously still, they trek through some of the grass with their wet fur slowing them down.

Skye shakes himself off first, then looks at Kuro again. "I thought it was just the gems in the cave earlier, but I can see that your chest tuft is.. pinkish, too."

"I... what?" Kuro looks down at his chest. He pulls his head back only to see the bright, pink-tinted fur. "Oh.. so it is. Ow.. my eyes.." The sun that was now up at mid-day position shines brightly on their backs.

As they reach the yellow stone walk, the eyes around the town avert to the strange-looking pokemon. Faint whispers can be heard along the roads.

"Look at that..."

"They look so proud..."

"Where are they going?"

Skye looks at Kuro and smiles at him. "Don't worry about them. Eventually, they'll think we're usuals, especially if WE'RE the ones rescuing them from mystery dungeons!"

"Mystery Dungeons?" Kuro asks.

"They'll tell you all about it at the guild. I'm sure." Skye answers.

"Isn't there two guilds? Which are we joining?" Kuro interrogates.

"Bouteille, of course."

"Sounds fancy."

"It just sounds fancy. But its real meaning is nothing special." Skye adds.

"Oh?"

"Yep."

"What's it mean, then?" Kuro asks.

"It's nothing special. It's just in a foreign language."

As the two reach a flight of stairs, the look up to see a giant green bottle with an entrance at the bottom. The label says "Bouteille verte."

Skye looks upon it seriously. His face grimaces as he steps forward. Kuro hears a tap noise as he walks, and then an intercom.

"State your name!"

"Skye, an Eevee!"

"Enter!"

Skye looks back to Kuro. He then makes a nod, turns back, and steps closer to the entrance. He waits next to the entrance for Kuro.

Kuro steps forward. He feels something click at his paws.

"State your name!" The intercom shouts. The loudness of it makes him a bit dizzy.

"K..Kuro! An..." he looks to Skye. "An..."

"A what!?'

"Eevee! An Eevee!" Kuro shouts.

"Enter!"

As Kuro walks towards the entrance with Skye, he hears the intercom shouting still at more people who want to enter the guild.

"The security here is... scary," Kuro says.

"I know, right? I wish they'd make the voice sound much more... appealing," Skye answers.

As they enter the bottle-shaped guild, they take a look around. The guild pokemon don't seem to even notice the weird-looking couple as they enter. The walls are plastered with dark green wallpapers and notice boards. There are also signs on the wall directing pokemon to where the guildmaster's office is, along with the senior, junior, and apprentice levels. Skye takes a look at the guildmaster's office sign.

"We're going to the guildmaster's office first to sign up. We should go in together, Kuro," Skye says. Even though Skye was acting cool, Kuro could tell that he was extremely excited to be a part of the guild.

But Kuro wasn't quite calm, either. This whole guild thing sounded pretty fun and exciting. Learning new things about new areas.. discovering hidden items that nobody knew existed.. rescuing pokemon in need.. it was so adventurous. His heart was practically popping out of his chest as Skye pulled the vine on the elevator devised of wooden planks. The vine was strong enough to hold it in place. On the left, when you pull it, the elevator seems to go down. It must mean the opposite for the right. One floor down, Skye stops pulling on the vine.

"This is it... I'll finally join the guild today," Skye remarked.

Kuro didn't say anything, but followed Skye into the guildmaster's office. Inside was a persian and a glameow. The persian looked extremely powerful. The glameow had intellect practically glowing in its eyes.

"Oh? We have visitors, Sylvy," the glameow said.

"Ooooh! Do you think we're going to get new recruits, Ismaire!?" The persian exclaimed back. "More for us! We'll surely pass those damned glasshead Verres with more recruits!" She said with a flame in her eyes.

Skye sweat dropped at how the persian acted. "U-Uhh.. Yeah.. I'd like t-to be a new recruit here at the guild. And so would he.." Skye turns to look at Kuro, whom just nods with a sheepish smile.

"Sylvy," the glameow starts. "There's only one room left in the guild... You're going to have to keep one, and lose the other."

The persian stands up and then walks around the two of them, eyeing their bodies. "You have an odd eye.. and you have an odd-looking body..." when she stops, she sits down to contemplate. After a moment, she slides a grin across her face and looks at the glameow. "Ismaire! You decide for me! It's too difficult!"

"Me? Well... if it were me... Hmm..." the glameow's speech is slow. "Wh-Why did you ask me?"

"Because I can't decide!"

"Well I can't either!"

"Then we'll take both of them!" The persian smiles happily.

The glameow lowers its head, as if she had just heard something stupid. "There's only room for one of them.

We'd have to expand the guild more... and we don't have the funds for that..."

"We don't need more rooms!" The persian exclaimed.

Skye and Kuro just looked at each other, then back at the persian and glameow, confused.

"If they're friends, I'm sure that they won't mind each other at all! They can share a bed!" The persian's facial expression suddenly changes to a more menacing glare. "If you object, fess up. It will make the picking process.. MUCH faster."

Skye and Kuro just laugh shyly, fear obviously making them not say anything.

"Good! Then it's settled. Ismaire, they will share a room! No big deal!"

The glameow sighs. "So... Let's get you two registered.. follow me." The glameow stands and exits the room. Skye then looks at Kuro.

"And.. that's that, I guess. We're sharing a room now," Skye says.

"I didn't even know you a few hours ago!" Kuro remarks.

"Do you want to be in the guild, or not?" Skye asks. He then notices that the persian is still there. She only grins at them. "W-We should go follow uh.."

"Ismaire," the persian says. "And my name is Sylvia. Most everyone in the guild calls me Sylvy, though."

"Yes, Ismaire. We will follow Ismaire..." Skye starts

"Hurry up," Sylvia breaks Skye off. "And stop stating everything you're about to do, or you'll end up late in the end!"

"R-Right!" Skye says. He then darts off with Kuro to catch up with Ismaire.

The glameow looks upon Skye and Kuro with its intelligent eyes. "You two are quite odd, you know. Sylvy didn't even really care, either. You're lucky you came here instead of going to Verre," Ismaire states. "They don't really accept pokemon that look different than normal. They think it makes them look bad. However, we accept most everyone who comes. And because of that.. You two will be forced to share a room."

"That's fine with me," Kuro said.

"Me as well," Skye added.

"Then I guess that's settled. Here are a few things that you'll need as an explorer. It seems we have.. JUST enough for the both of you." Ismaire pulls out a couple of bags filled with useful things. The bags themselves are useful in many ways. "These bags are your treasure bags. They will hold everything that you pick up in mystery dungeons, buy, or trade for." As Skye and Kuro open their bags simultaneously, she continues.

"Inside is an oran berry for both of you, and a fair amount of credits. That is, 1,500 for both of you."

"Woow!" Skye's eyes widen, awe stirring on his face. "1,500 just for signing up! Isn't this awesome, Kuro!?"

"Huh..?"

"You've... you've never shopped before, have you, Kuro...?" Skye interpreted.

"Nope!" Kuro stated with glee.

"That's not something to be proud of," Skye said.

"Whatever. I'm just happy I got free food!"

Skye sighed. "That's obviously not going to last him very long..."

"Off you two go. Go get settled in your new room. The number is on the bag that I gave you," Ismaire said. "I want to get back to Sylvy now. Go, go! Quickly."

Skye and Kuro make their way to the new recruits' room. And amount of about 11 rooms were there. Theirs was all the way in the back, on the left side of the hallway. When they opened the door to room 11, the air became foul.

"Eww.. smells like.. like old people!" Skye exclaimed. He walked in despite the smell and looked around.

"We're going to have to freshen this place up.. it's so dusty everywhere. It must have been a long time since this room was in use."

Kuro barged into the room and jumped onto the bed. "I have a rooooooom! And the bed is sooooo soft!!"

"Get used to it... we'll be staying here for a long while. Hopefully, we get to move up to the juniors' level eventually.. their rooms are a lot finer than these," Skye explains.

"Nicer than this!? Ooooh.. I want that soo badly." Kuro turns over on the bed and looks at Skye. "Hey. They didn't explain Mystery Dungeons to me. You should tell me about them now."

"Well..." Skye starts. "There's quite a lot to know about them that I don't know yet." Skye blushes. "We'll have to learn as we go along."

"I guess that's okay. I learn by doing instead of hearing anyways!" Kuro exclaims.

Skye checks the window at the wall. The sky was a dark blue with the night. The stars twinkle faintly. "We had better get some rest.. tomorrow's our first day. It's a big day for us."

"Aww.. but I wanted to learn more about you!" Kuro says.

"It's for the best." Skye then jumps on his paws. "Th-There doesn't seem to be a second bed in here!"

"Oh.. that seems so. Are you going to sleep on the floor?" Kuro asks

"No way! It's dirty enough already on the bed! I'm not sleeping on that floor, I'll catch a disease! I-I-I'll just have to sh-share the bed with you!"

"I'm not sharing the bed with you!"

"You have to!" Skye shouts back.

"Fi... Fine. Just... keep on your side of the bed." Kuro says.

Skye sighs in disappointment, then moves himself onto the bed. He turns himself away from Kuro and closes his eyes. "Rest up for tomorrow, Kuro. It's a big day for both of us and the rest of everyone here.. today was the last day for sign-ups to the guild until next graduation." Skye closes his eyes.

I have to share a bed with Skye... Kuro thought to himself. I just met him, and we're sleeping in the same room, on the same bed like brothers. I feel like I've actually known him for a long time.It must be because I finally found someone who has something like I do. He's different like I am, but.. I'm still more different. He curls his tail over his nose and closes his eyes, then lets his mind at ease to rest.
