Pinned down by Kai, Lukas stared up into his emerald green eyes; time seemed to move slower than frozen molasses. Stuck in eternity, staring into those green eyes that watched curiously back, Lukas finally uttered a question after a few minutes, "How did you ever find me here?"

"Well," Kai began, his voice so low Lukas couldn't help but purr, "my dear otter, remember that necklace I gave to you those long years ago? Well, it was actually a tracking device

"You-you're kidding, right?" He looked curiously down at the hook-shaped necklace he wore around his neck. The moonlight bounced off its metallic surface making its silver glow almost like the stars high above sparkling softly against the black obsidian sky. Lukas looked up past Kai, at the moon that loomed largely in the sky; he then sighed contentedly and smiled. As he stared into the ivory toned moon that stuck out against the ebony night sky sparkled with tiny diamonds, he thought back to the first day that he was under the night sky next to Kai - he was pointing up with one paw holding the otter's paw with the other as he would talk about space. His gaze returned back to the green-eyed wolf that pinned him down onto the soft grassy floor; he realized that Kai was still talking to him. Lukas then just nodded and smiled, mimicking the wolf's expressions hopping that his mate did not notice he didn't hear a word he said.

"...The guards then were chasing me down the hallway and..." Kai's voice faded as it reached the otter's ears. Lukas would smile, but not at Kai's story: he smiled because he could see, smell, feel, hear, and as well taste his loving mate. He watched the bright glistening green eyes. He looked at the midnight fur that would softly sway in the warm breeze of the peaceful night; the torch light would shine upon the smooth silky fur. Lukas reached up and ran his paw through it, purring softly. His gaze then settled upon the wolf's lips, observing how they moved shaping his voice into words as Kai would talk. Lukas eyes glazes over as he drifts into a daydream with a grin upon his face.

"Lukas, did you hear that noise?" Kai's content expression changed into a worrisome look, his ears lowering down. Kai got off of the otter that was still stuck inside his euphoric daydream. The wolf lifted the otter into his arm, looking out into the dense landscape of trees that frames the menacing darkness. "Lukas..." he shook the otter slightly, the only response being a stream of drool that rolled out from his muzzle. "Gross..." Kai said to himself.

A group of slow-moving shadows limped around in a snail-like fashion in the shadowy backdrop; then, one of the limping shadows stops moving standing still lifeless, turning towards them with a pair of jaundiced eyes piercing the darkness. The glowing yellow eyes began to move towards both the daydreaming and the terrified wolf, and a disembodied moan comes out from its direction as it begins to move closer, much faster than before.

"Lukas!" Kai held the otter closer and stumbles backwards. The light from the torches outlined a figure of a man; Kai thought to himself that something about this man was not right. The shadowy figure now fully lit by the torches revealed flesh that was green and decaying - rotting flesh and bleached white bones speckled with dirt protruded out. The jaw would slowly open and snap shut like a clam closing when startled, and thinning hair that fell out, the typical zombie look. The thing that stuck out the most was something that couldn't be seen: its stench. Kai noticed this before in the day, thinking nothing about it, but now the pungent scent of its decaying flesh filled his nostrils. It smelled worse than a room into the middle of the city dump, or sewers filled to the brim with rotting eggs and fish that had been outside in the blistering and humid summer sun for a week.

Lukas took in a deep breath, thinking that he would smell the sweet scent of his wolf; instead the scent of the zombie filled his nostril. Still off in his own world, he gags and looks up at the wolf, unaware of the zombie advancing toward them, and then says to Kai, "Hun, you need a bath." He mews slightly looking at his face, "What's wrong, babe, it looks li-"

His question was cut off by the moan of the zombie quickly advancing. Urgently Lukas jumped out of his mate's arms and tugged on the wolf's red shirt. "Okay, hun, we should get out now!"

Lukas looked at Kai just standing, motionless, and scared stiff, his muscles not responding to the brain's command to 'flee, flee, you big oaf.' Lukas grabbed Kai's tail and bit it hard enough that the connection between Kai's brain and muscles were able to reconnect. Without a second thought Kai grabbed his mate by his paw and began to run, following the path of torches, a path he thought would be safe.

He was wrong.

"Hun..." Kai cried out, his heart and breath racing as he runs, "what are these zo-"

An arrow whizzed past his ear hitting into a bark of a tree nearby with a thud. He quickly looked in the direction where the arrow came from, still running; he was shocked at what he saw. Through the trees he saw a face, one made of only bones. "That's a skeleton, Lukas!" He panicked, stumbling upon roots that stuck out of the ground.

An arrow flew over Lukas as he caught Kai, pulling him up he drags his wolf along running quickly. "Yes , I know hun, just keep running and stay." He ducked as an arrow flew overhead; there was a screech as the arrow impaled a spider hanging from the branches of the tree nearby. "Stay low, Kai," he gasped, "spiders, zombies, skeletons... a whole melting pot of wacky." He tried to laugh. "Be glad that it's only those."

Kai, highly exhausted, tried to keep running close to Lukas. "What do you mean 'only'?" he asked as he gripped Lukas's paw tightly, trying not to fall over.

They finally reached the door after dodging arrows, jumping over roots, and evading spiders and zombies. They stumble into the door, Kai first before being followed by Lukas falling on top of him, who then slammed the door shut with his foot. Catching their breath they look at each other for a short while, Lukas drops his head onto the wolf's chest. Kai soon follows by dropping his head onto the floor with a thud. Lukas was the first to relax, catching his breath, listening to rapidly beating heart of the canine.

"Lukas, please tell me what you meant by 'be glad it's only these'."

"It's nothing, dear, nothing that you need to worry about." He looked at Kai. "It's nothing dangerous." A lie. He got off the wolf and stared out the window at the zombies, spiders, and skeletons lurking about. His gaze stopped at a pair of glowing red eyes that stared out lifelessly from behind trees. Lukas shivers slightly as the eyes turn away moving, almost floating, effortlessly away out of sight.

Kai stares at the otter. "Is something wrong, Luke?" He places a paw onto Lukas's shoulder and looked at him worriedly, still shaken up from the encounter with the dangers he never dreamt could be possible.

"No, nothing's wrong. " Lukas smiled weakly. "You know, you haven't told me how you found me."

Kai nodded. "I have, although I'm guessing you probably didn't hear me because you had this wide goofy grin on your face, which we both know you were probably in your own little dream world." He giggled softly. "I got a message from you before you left."

"I'm so glad you got my letter, hun. I'm so happy you're here." Lukas threw his arms around Kai's neck and pressed his lips against the wolf's.

Kai murred deeply into the kiss and tilted his head to the side as they kiss passionately. He slid his tongue into the otter's mouth, meeting his mates tongue. Soft murring and purring filled the room as they kiss, their tongues dancing for a few minutes.

Lukas was the one to break the kiss. "Kai, we should probably go to sleep."

"I agree." Kai followed Lukas, who petted his pet as he passed by. He climbed into a soft wooden single bed covered with worn red sheets. Kai huddled close to his otter, listening to the audible moaning of zombies, rattling of skeletons, and squeaks of giant spiders wandering around like children on a wild goose chase on Easter. He perked his ears up to an odd noise; the noise that caught his ear was a hissing noise that faded away into the distance. He shrugged it off and then said to himself, "Probably just my imagination acting up after this wild night."

He buried his muzzle into the neckfur of his peacefully sleeping mate. "Night, Lukas." Happily, he closes his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
