#1 of Anthros at War

This story is a bit chaotic as it switches perspectives sometimes without giving any warning, names are not used for most of it, and it ties into the world of another story series I am writing right now. This series will probably end up with lots of violence and gore so I recomend that those with weaker stomachs or less tolerances to that sort of thing avoid this series.

Marine Wars

It was hot in the water near the coast of Crocodile and Alligator territory. The murky shore water creating a natural sight barrier that protected the shore's inhabitants from marine assaults and gave the inhabitants a free reign to do as they pleased in building their defenses. Coral walls lined the interior of the murky water's depths and proved a fatal deterrent for those who could not navigate in the sightless waters.

Staring at the murky wall of silt were the F.A.C. members. F.A.C. stood for Free Aquatic Corps as it was filled with the aquatic living creatures such as sharks, fish, and other such creatures willing to fight for the cause of freedom for the many races of animal people on the planet. In the squad dedicated to patrolling the resistance waters were a strange collection of creatures. Three dolphin scouts, four great white heavy weapon's specialists, seven tiger shark light and melee weapon's specialists, with a few different breeds of fish who could handle explosives with ease.

Out to the side though, away from the group, floated a solitary shark of mixed colors. Deep grey and blue tinted skin covered her body, except for her front side, mainly her stomach area, which was silvery in color. Running along her back, and across her eyes like a mask, were black stripes which signified her mixed heritage. Half great white and half tiger shark she was an outcast even in the freedom fighters. Even though merging of the species to give greater freedoms was promoted, the old ways died hard.

Half-breeds were looked on as anomalies that no one wanted. Neither race wanted her and as such she grew up alone until she joined the Marine corps. But even there she was left on her own as all the others formed clusters in which she never seemed welcome. Sighing to herself she shook her head, her silvery hair shifted and spread out around her in the water before settling down behind her once more. Holding up her hand she looked at her clawed hand with a slight sadness.

She was half as much bigger as her normal tiger shark companions but still half the size of the great white members. Her leader, the least discriminatory of the bunch, had taken pity on her and given her a very special gift. She had access to three styles of weapons, something no other creature could claim in the entire ocean. Along her back she held a Nodachi, unable to wield a claymore this was the next best thing, a sniper rifle and along her waist she had two sub machineguns unlike anything on the surface.

Water weapons had a special feature that caused them to act differently from their land based forms. All water based weapons used harpoon style ammo that usually had some form of serration. Sub Machineguns fired inch long spines with the serrated edges that formed them into miniature harpoons while the sniper rifle used two different ammo styles. There were six inch harpoons that were used on lightly armored targets and could be fired quickly. The other style was much larger at a foot and a half long. These were used on heavily armored targets and could punch through almost anything in the ocean.

Feeling a sensation of vulnerability the shark snapped her head up and looked around before noticing her squad had moved off without her while she had gone over her weapons and wallowed a bit in her bitter pain over her past. Angrily she swam after them while remembering a warm moment when her mother had talked to her. Her mother had always read books to her about creatures and people who were different but overcame the racial discrimination or cultural out casting by forgiving those who hurt them and finding peace before helping those who had wronged them.

But those were fairy tales, and like she had told her mother, she was not some fairy princess. This was real life and she was a real person. Forgiveness was not in her nature and she had no intention of being used for some greater good just so she could be accepted. She had joined the military so she could sate her blood lust and take out her vengeance on those unfortunate enough to get in her way.

Smelling the water she frowned and stopped swimming forward. Something else was in the water with them. The scent was faint and muddled but she recognized it as the scent of land dirt. This was not a normal occurrence as the silt barrier smelled more of the water than earth. Coming to the only possible conclusion she shrugged and nonchalantly put her helmet back on and subtly turned on the microphone in it.

In a voice that was lilting and predatory at the same time, she whispered into the mic. "We might not be alone."

She didn't bother saying any more than that as she set her hands close to her machine guns. Allowing her weight to drag her down by angling her down and retracting the webbing she dropped to the floor and disappeared among the wreckage. Watching the silt field closely she began to swim towards her squad while remaining in the wreckage.

This was crocodile and alligator territory but the rebels had been finally grouping up together in small islands and such easily defended areas as the war had progressed. Not many races still supported the hypocritical rebels anymore with the entire public outcry against what they stood for. Five years ago the announcement about the racial unions becoming accepted had sparked very little interest or support in the public.

This all changed overnight as a rebellion group had quickly formed and spread around the world. Overnight two separate factions arose, the government who approved of the intermixing of races, and the rebels who opposed it violently. About two years into the war though, due to the fierce opposition they met, the rebels had to embrace racial mixing to hold off the tide of mixed races coming to end their opposition.

The war had been harsh and the rebels had eventually been pushed back to small remote areas while the support of the mixed races grew for each other. Now though was not the time to remember the past, but to fight for the freedom of what might be. What came next though was a shock for her. Just as she was about to come up from the floor a harpoon shot forth from the silt cloud and speared through one of the Dolphin people's chest.

The other dolphin cried out in shock and dismay, the only other female of the group, as her mate limply floated up towards the surface with a harpoon through his chest, clearly dead. The silt burst outwards as a large squad of scaled reptiles shot forward towards the group. Cursing silently the Shark grabbed her rifle and flicked off the safety. Loading the first harpoon called Bolts as their nickname, into her rifle and took aim on the group of crocs and gaters.

Taking in the group she noticed the three crocodiles were commando class and were carrying rifles, except one who seemed to have a rocket launcher of some sorts, and water communicators. They seemed to be the ones directing the Alligators in their assault on her squad. Frowning she searched for the fourth one. These kinds of squads always had four. Shrugging she lined up her sights with the first commando and smiled grimly as she pulled the trigger.

A soft thump sounded and the gun jerked back enough to throw her aim off. Grimacing at the pain in her shoulder where the rifle had jerked backwards she remembered the first thing they had taught her when it came to this gun. Always put it onto a support or you will get bruises. Doing that now she sniffed the water and felt a satisfactory trace of blood from the Crocs. One of the commandos was now missing but a thick trail of blood that signified her shot was dead on.

Now feeling smug she set her rifle up once more, this time bracing it on some of the wreckage along the ocean floor so she wouldn't have to deal with recoil. The melee in the area just beyond the silt clouds was not really going in anyone's favor still. Each side had lost a member of their party but now it was a battle of triage. Neither side was really taking and hits. At this rate both sides were going to run out of ammo and there would be no decisive victor.

Deciding that the commandos were the biggest threat still the shark hybrid aimed up her rifle for another shot at the leaders. Just as she had finished setting up the sights on the next target a shadow passed over her. Instantly dropping her rifle and diving to the side she barely managed to dodge a barrage of bolts from a submachine gun. Cursing herself for not moving her position she reached back and drew her own submachine guns and glanced around the pillar she had dove behind.

As she glanced around her pillar she noticed a sandy tail flick behind a pillar about twenty feet away. Crocodile, then this was the missing Commando she had been looking for. Smarter than the average croc it would seem, she had only six magazines of ammo, so about 60 shots per mag, she had 360 shots. Not knowing what the enemy had for weapons she was a tad weary of putting herself out from behind cover.

Checking to make sure her guns were completely ready she checked once more and still saw the flickering of sandy brown and jumped from behind her cover dashing towards the flickering shape holding her guns up. She had no clue what he was using but she would be ready to dodge or shoot if needed. When the tail didn't move more than up and down she narrowed her eyes, moving around the corner with both guns up she swore violently as she found herself looking at a fake tail wedged into the wall. Looking up and raising her guns she was just in time to see the outline of the Croc as it slammed into her like a train.

Snarling she winced as her ribs groaned under the pressure, but held and her whole body ached. Unbeknownst to her the blow had knocked her Blood Inhibitor loose, leaving her vulnerable to Blood Rage. The guns were going to be useless at this close of range which only left hand to hand combat. Dropping the guns she attempted to lock her hands around the Croc and pin him to her so he couldn't use his longer jaw. When in their more feral form Crocs and Gaters had long strong jaws, giving them a more powerful jaw than their ancestors, but in all forms they had the same weakness as their feral ancestors. They were Amphibious where Sharks were aquatic; meaning all she had to do was keep him down here till he drowned!

Grinning maliciously she held on tightly to the now struggling Croc and imagined his agonizing death. Stupid amphibians should stay near shore and no better than to mess with the true water creatures. She was shocked out of her pleasant imagination though when she felt the Croc starting to break her grip! Furious now she opened her strong jaws and bit down hard onto the left shoulder of the Croc, serrated teeth sinking into the tough skin and then stopping. Shaking her head violently she managed to pierce the tough skin just enough that should the Croc try to escape now he would most likely lose his left arm.

She had however forgotten probably the one weakness a shark had when fighting, Blood Lust, the bane of all creatures working with Sharks. The sweet metallic flavor sifted up into her mouth and then into her nostrils. The effect was instantaneous; her normally black looking eyes rolled back into her skull and were replaced by pure white looking eyes. Sensing danger the Crocs sniffed the water, and if it would have been possible, his paler would have paled.

Knowing he had one chance he waited for the moment where he would risk it all to survive. Losing herself to the blood lust the Shark loosened her grip as she prepared to shake her head hard and rip and tear, feeling the glorious sensation of flesh parting between her jaws, blood bathing her in its crimson glory, and then feasting on the tender flesh within. This sensation however, never came, only the gut wrenching pain in her chest as something hard slammed into her solar plexus and completely stunned her for a few seconds.

This was all the Croc needed to reverse the positions, still bleeding profusely; he wrapped his long strong arms around her body to completely lock her up. Her stunned state was not long lasting and the instant it wore off she was immediately thrashing and writhing, howling her blood lust in a piercing scream through the ocean's waters. Affected even worse because she was made of two different sharks she had a double weakness to the scent of blood, which also made her twice as dangerous once she smelled it.

The battle, not thirty feet away, stopped as everyone felt a cold hand of terror roll down their spines. A shark in blood lust was known to decimate entire squads; they could not feel pain, remorse, or even pity as they single mindedly hunted all wounded creatures. Wearily both sides looked at each other before a conclusion was reached. Fighting was secondary now, a berserk shark could easily spell the destruction of both sides should said shark find anyone wounded, which both sides had heavy wounds by now, and this meant only one option remained. Retreat for the members of F.A.C. members, letting the rebels deal with the berserk shark.

Cursing their luck the remaining commandos signaled their group to retreat back towards the other battle between their other commando and the berserk shark. When they arrived on the scene they all were grim in their expectation. Sure enough their ally was in a dire situation, barely holding back the berserk shark as he bled from his nearly destroyed left arm. One of the Alligators held up his gun as he prepared to fire, only to have it pushed down by one of the Crocs.

Speaking in a gravelly voice that was common among Crocs the first commando shook his head. "You would be more likely to kill him first. Berserk sharks are resilient and deadly. The more blood there is in the water the tougher they get. They feel no pain and will fight until their body is basically destroyed. We need to subdue her before we kill her lest she kill him and a good portion of us."

The entire group looked worriedly at their ally as they tried to come up with a plan. Finally the only conclusion they could reach would be to use one other person as bait and then prey they could wrestle her down fast enough to keep her from killing the bait. The first commando to have spoken motioned for their most wounded member to come forth first and move into view of the thrashing shark. Gulping the Salt Water Alligator moved forward hesitantly and waved at the shark, his blood flowing from a Bolt wound in his right leg.

Instantly the shark doubled her struggles to get free and charge towards the Gator. Unable to restrain her any longer the Commando was thrown off of her, with the help of an elbow to the ribs, and gasped in pain as his wounded arm was jerked sideways with her escape. Shooting forth like a Bolt from a gun she zoomed towards the wounded Gator.

The terrified Gator screamed and dived away as he saw his death coming towards him in the form of a Sharkess with pure white eyes and extremely large sharp teeth moving in a blur of black and grayish blue. The death never came though, to the now sobbing Gator as a long bolt slammed into the back right leg of the dashing predator. Thrown completely out of alignment the shark crashed into the ocean floor and shook her head. Preparing to dash up she was instantly pinned down by the weight of several large Gators as they desperately attempted to hold her still.

Thrashing and snapping at the gators she looked more like a demon now than just a warrior. Dropping down quickly the Commandos looked down at the snarling shark with a mixture of horror and disgust. It was almost nonexistent for a shark to go berserk anymore with the new development in technology. The second Commando sighed and pulled his overly large gun up and aimed it down at the shark's head. It was the only thing known to stop Berserk Sharks, the A.S.M.R or Anti Sub Marine Rifle. A gun that fired 8 inch thick Bolts that were about three feet long.

It was this gun that had stopped the rampaging shark's charge in the first place, one of the bolts now protruded through her leg, having destroyed the shin bone, and given them the chance to capture her to be put down. Snapping her jaw at the gun the shark was completely oblivious to the fact that death was less than two feet away and about to penetrate her skull. The commando was pressing down on the trigger when suddenly it was jerked down and into the ground.

The wounded Croc Commando had placed his large hand on the gun and easily pushed the heavy gun down away from the female. Shaking his head he pointed with his weak arm at the markings along the Shark's body. "She is a half-breed. I claim the Right of Victory, she is my spoils." His voice was deep like the shifting of the very earth itself but tinged with pain, probably from the fact that his arm left arm was barely still attached.

Staring incredulously at the wounded Croc the others all looked worriedly down at the still thrashing shark wondering how the Hell they were going to get her back home in this condition. Smirking the wounded Croc held up a small object that looked like a chip. "I seem to have...knocked this out of her when I hit her at the start of our battle. The berserking is not her fault, it is mine, and as such I will follow our code and take responsibility for her."

The other Commandos looked away and grimaced, everything he had said was true, a code all of them lived by was 'If you cause a fellow warrior undue suffering, it is your responsibility to make up for it.' Normally this only applied to others of the same species, but he had also invoked the right of the Victor. He had fought her and technically been the victor, as she had not killed him. It was his right to do whatever it took to keep her under control.

Her eyes were locked onto the wounded Croc and she was almost able to shake off the other Gators now with how much fury her body was filled with. Giving the signal the Commando motioned for the Gators to get clear, which they did hesitantly. With an explosion of muddy water she burst from the floor and latched her jaws onto the wounded Croc's arm once more. Wincing he slammed his hand, opened flat, into her nose and caused the chip to instantly lock over her nostrils, spreading like liquid over her nose and instantly removing all Blood Lust producing chemicals in her body.

It was truly amazing what technology could accomplish, and with the loss of her berserker frenzy she became aware of her surroundings, for a moment. Pain from her almost destroyed right leg, bruised solar plexus, and sore nose overwhelmed her and caused her to shriek in pain before passing out from the shock of everything.

Staring down at the wounded and now unconscious shark the group of Gators and Crocs shifted uncomfortably as the wounded Commando Croc quickly tied up her arms and then tried to lift her up, only to gasp and stagger to one knee. The Gators moved as if to help their wounded leader but were stopped by the second Commando's hand.

"Do not help him, he has invoked his rights, and he has his pride. You will not embarrass him or yourselves by treating him as weak."

Worriedly the Gators watched as the Croc grimaced and tried to stand once more. This time he succeeded and was able to carry the Sharkess over his right shoulder back towards the silt wall. Following closely behind the rest of the group disappeared into the silt with their wounded leader. The swirling silt muted all sound but there was a special quality about it. If a person could refrain from breathing in the silt they could make their way through it without too much trouble.

The Silt was special near this area as it was filled with a natural hallucinogenic known as Prophet Tears or Orphan Tears. This rare hallucinogenic was known to drive people mad, giving them vision like flashes that normally foretold the death of either the one who ingested the drug, or of someone they loved. This caused all non-amphibious creatures that traversed the silt to go mad with despair and agony, normally running themselves into the coral walls until all that was left was a shredded corpse.

The antidote for this drug was called Prophet's Smile or Parent's Smile and if administered could reduce the effects of the drug until it wore off naturally. Unfortunately for the shark and the wounded Croc both were susceptible to the drug now. The Croc would feel the effects more slowly as it entered his blood stream through the wound in his shoulder, it was too large and too much of the drug would get in to be stopped by his natural ability to hold his breath for long periods of time. The Shark was susceptible due to the fact that she was still breathing.

As they walked through the silt images of the Sharkess waking and tearing his flesh, limbs, and organs off and out assaulted the Croc. Unperturbed he continued to walk on, ignoring them, as he focused solely on getting back to shore. The Shark was not as lucky as she was assaulted with images in her sleep and could do nothing against them. Tortured by images of marine creatures ripping her apart slowly, and her mother, she cried out over and over in horror, trapped in her own mind.

The third Commando pressed a hand to his ear and activated the radio to the base, "You got all that on the cam feeds right?" His voice was softer, strange for a Crocodile, "Good then I don't need to tell you what we need. Make sure it is ready for when we get there."

After about five minutes of walking the group made it through the silt barrier and arrived on the surface. Awaiting them there was a group of female Crocs and Gator in white outfits prepared for the returning group. Immediately several split off to begin patching up the minorly wounded rebels but most of them stood back watching the Croc Commando holding the Sharkess. Ignoring them he stepped onto land and immediately the shark in his arms began to choke and struggle in her sleep. Cursing he charged through the medical personal and towards the living area.

Blood splattered from his arm and her leg as he ran, causing them both to wince, although the shark was more busy choking, marking the path they had taken. He had to get her into salt water quickly or else she would suffocate. Of course it had to be salt water or else her cells would burst and drown her. Narrowing his eyes he kicked open his own door and franticly looked around. Nothing...there was nowhere he could put her! Looking out the window he smiled suddenly and, again, kicked down the next door and leapt into his swimming pool.

It was nice to be a Commando, and the lead Commando, sometimes. Special perks like a salt water swimming pool were very handy. Under the water the shark gasped in the salty life giving liquid and slowly returned to her previous state of crying out in pain and terror as she was affected by the drug. Moving her around in the water he waited for the medics to come rushing to his living quarters. Sure enough within two minutes several of the medical staff, including the lead Doctor, a female Croc who was abnormally large and well-muscled, burst into his house.

Observing the broken doors, and slightly trampled living space, the alligator nurses were less eager to get near the pool and as such it was only the head doctor who stalked over to the pool with anger blatantly written on her face.

In a voice that brooked no argument she called over her shoulder, "Arakava get over here damn it and give me the fuckin antidote! I don't have time for this bullshit Renerak!"

More afraid of the doctor than their leader the alligator scurried over and handed the syringe filled with amber liquid to the head doctor, who was chewing on a seaweed cigar. It was unlit but she had a habit of chewing them till they were pulp, since she was no longer allowed to smoke them.

Chuckling he shook his head at her antics and moved towards the doc. "I don't need it myself, I am used to the visions and I no longer find them even remotely scary, give the antidote to my conquest." He moved the shivering shark up to the surface and tilted her neck back. "And after that...please might you find the time to do something about my arm?"

The nurses gasped and one of them ran off looking slightly sick, probably to throw up, after seeing the nearly severed arm attached only by the sickly looking white and red bone. It was a gory mess and the Doc didn't even flinch. "You stupid son bitch, you dare ask me to help a prisoner first, THEN you ask me to fix up some tiny love bite she gave you?" Snarling she grabbed the shark roughly by the neck and jabbed the needle into the major vein running up the neck and injected the antidote, "Want me to give you some date rape drugs now to? Oh yah that's right you dun want me to call them that, want some knock out drugs?" She was a smartass, snide, bitchy, and her bedside manners were probably worse than most of the military veterans. But she was the best doctor they had and probably the most fearless creature Renerak had met.

By this time the nurse who had run out came back, still looking vaguely sick, and earned herself a withering glare from the doc. Renerak laughed and shook his head, "Come on Nashajac let the nurse off. It isn't very often you get such gory wounds in your office. Most of the wounds are either minor or fatal."

Muttering something that sounded vaguely like an insult to Renerak's heritage and continued existence Nashajac snapped her fingers and held her hand out for her tool bag from the non-sick looking Gator and motioned for Renerak to sit near the stairs of the pool. When he had moved to comply with her she opened her bag and got to work. A generous dose of alcohol, most of it even went on the wound this time rather than into her mouth, a few swabs of cotton, a bit of false flesh generated to compensate for the lack of skin, and some stitches, later, Nashajac got up and grunted.

"There you look almost as ugly as before. Now if you will excuse me I have some more babies to patch up before I get to head over to the bar." With that she packed her bag up and stomped out. On her way out she called over her shoulder, "And fix your damn doors! I don't want to be havin to look inside your filthy pit of a house every time I walk by!"

Chortling at the display of, rough, affection he looked over at the shark. She was breathing better, and one eyelid was a bit fluttery. Smiling he got out of the pool and called over his shoulder, "You can stop pretending to be asleep now." With that he headed into his house and began to clean up the mess he had made.

Cursing herself for being clumsy about spying on his actions the sharkess opened her eyes all the way and watched the retreating form of the Croc. He must be planning something; he had no reason to save her, not after what she had done. She had slowly regained her memory of what happened as she had watched the doctor, apparently someone known as Nashajac, patch up her captor. It had been an ugly wound and she had been shuddering inside thinking of what was to come of her now.

She had been so proud of herself for not giving away that she had woken up when that damn doctor stabbed her in the neck with that large needle! But it seemed Renerak had known anyway. She shuddered again as she remembered her horrible dream and contemplated what evil intentions the crocodile had in mind for her now.

After waiting for two hours, with no sight of the Croc, Renerak, again the Shark started looking around to take in stock of her new quarters until she could escape. It was a domed in area with darkened glass like material blocking out most of the sun's light. The water was a light blueish green color as if in representation of the ocean's coloration, and the bottom was filled with soft silky sand like substance. She still couldn't move very much due to the Bolt through her leg and the bindings on her wrists, but she was determined that she would escape or die trying.
