Ch. 2: A Glimpse of Life

Ariun woke to a light rapping at his door. He just rolled to his side lazily and groaned back "I'm sle--" he paused to let out a yawn "--py, so go away" but it didn't help. In fact, Belinda just strolled right in, giving him a small push on his back "get up you lazy little..." she stopped and Ariun just ignored her statement.

"I'm still tired" he spoke, pulling more of the sheets over him, hoping to block her bothersome little pushes on his back.

"I don't care, it's almost seven and we're leaving in half an hour for dinner" she spoke, but again, Ariun didn't care about that "it's the last you'll get to see your father for almost a week"

"Father already took me on a hunt with him"

She frowned "really?"

"He knows that I hate public appearances with anyone in the pack" which was partially true... he just hated to be in public with her...

"Whatever" she said as she walked out, yelling back in a tone that seemed almost caring "there's leftovers in the fridge, or you can make something if you like"

He stared at his clock for a while, waiting silently as he heard everyone, namely Bitch, his father, and his brother, get prepared. The clock hit 6:57 and the door slammed, indicating that they had left, walking into town. Ariun sat up, giving a large yawn with his tongue rolling out of his mouth like a dogs would before pulling the sheets off and sliding out. His feet hit the wood and a chill ran through him "cold" and it was. Along with the floor, his room seemed chilly; he guessed it was because he was completely naked. His first thought from there on was why can't we have fur all the time but he then remembered that was a stupid question, even if he was a bit drowsy. He grabbed some boxers and a pair of denim shorts, pulling them on and covering his nakedness.

He walked into the hall and down the stairs, stretching his limbs with every opportunity he got. His goal was the phone, which he snatched up and began to dial numbers on. Seven beeps later, it began to ring.

"Hello" said someone a female on the other end.

"Is Krystal there Mrs. Dwaine?"

"One moment Ariun" she recognized his voice.

The line went silent as she set the receiver down, so she could grab her daughter. It took less than a minute before he heard Krystal's voice "hey Ariun, what's up?"

"Families out to dinner you wanna come over?"

"Sure"

"And would you pick up Devon on your way?"

"Sure, I'll stop by his house on my way"

"Kay" Ariun smiled happily, people outside the pack.

"We'll be there in a second wolf-boy, bye" and she hung up before Ariun could reply, it was fin though, she was always a bit quick about doing things and he was used to it. She and Devon we're the only people Ariun had told about himself and his pack, something he wasn't supposed to but... what they don't know won't kill them... he thought for a second well it would if it was some random person. He felt a bit giddy, it'd been almost a week since he'd seen either of them and school didn't start for another week... too long in his opinion. He padded around the house happily, just like a newborn pup would, as he went to the freezer and grabbed a frozen pizza, tossing it in the oven quickly before he sat down and waited.

The sky got slightly darker before he heard the door open down the hall, Krystal walking in, her long red hair almost getting caught in the door as she closed it. Ariun jumped up and gave her a quick hug "missed ya" and he stopped for a second "but where's Devon?"

She just smiled and said "he'll be her in... five, four, three, two..."

Ariun looked at the door... but nothing happened. He poked her on the forehead "you were saying?"

Almost as if on cue... well the wrong one anyways, the door clicked open and a boy slightly taller than Ariun walked in, carrying some drinks with him He smiled to them both and Krystal said "one", giving Ariun a poke in the chest "I'm gonna go find us a movie or something okay"

Ariun nodded then addressed Devon "what'd you bring this time?"

"Bacardi" he lifted it up "peach flavor"

Ariun gave him a look of utter amusement "picked the one she hated most"

Devon smiled widely" well I figured there'd be more for you and me"

"You mean for you?"

Devon just smiled more and walked past him into the living room, letting Ariun run back to the oven. This was their habitual thing... cheap pizza and cheap alcohol. Probably a bad Idea since Ariun was seventeen... but Devon and Krystal were only a year older and who cared as long as they didn't get caught. He brought the pizza with him as he went to the living room, setting it down on the table before sitting in between Devon and Krystal.

"What'd you pick?" spoke Ariun as he sat

"Some new werewolf movie" Krystal said trying to hold in a laugh.

Ariun rolled his eyes "I figured you'd do something like that"

"What?" she exclaimed, trying to look innocent as she put it into the DVD player.

Devon spoke up this time "fifty-percent of the time we hang out you try to bring out the whole "he's a werewolf" bit, I find it somewhat annoying" he put emphasis on the werewolf bit.

"Sorry that I'm curious"

"I hope you are"

Ariun just rested his head on Devon's shoulder as they began to argue back and forth. As Krystal sat he stretched out some more, resting his legs on her lap. The previews began and they kept arguing... somehow moving from her being nosy to Devon having arachnophobia. Ariun sat up for a moment, grabbing some pizza and a bottle before resting back again, now deciding to listen "...Ooh, big scary spider, it's just a bug"

"So what... they're creepy"

"Well you know you sleep almost six feet away..."

Ariun cut her off maybe it is inherited... "How did you guys get from werewolves to spiders?"

They just looked at each other and Ariun took a sip of the malt whatever the world called it, trying to hold back a smile as they stared stupidly into each other's eyes "exactly..."

"Sorry"

"Sorry" they said in perfect unison.

"Can we please just watch the movie now" Ariun was smiling now "I don't care what is, lets just watch it"

Devon runs a hand through Ariun's hair, moving behind his ear and scratching it like someone would a dog. Normally Ariun would be offended, but he enjoyed it, go figure, and he just leaned into it. It was almost like pure bliss. Devon and Krystal were beaming now and Devon spoke up "Aww... don't throw a fit wittle puppy dog, we'll be good now"

Ariun glared at him and gave him a quick punch in the arm, so much for a bit of bliss. Krystal just giggled and after a second so did Devon. Ariun just glared even more, it was playful though... and he had no right to deny it. Once awhile back, he'd changed completely, taking the form of an actual wolf and they spent time petting him and stuff. His father might have keeled over and died from embarrassment if he had seen his son that day. He just laid down, this time resting his head on Devon's lap instead of shoulder, his legs still in Krystal's and mumbled "start the god damn movie already"

They just smiled at each other more and hit play. The movie went on and the pizza was gone halfway through, along with the alcohol, most of which Devon drank. It wasn't enough to get them drunk, but they got a light buzz that made the movie, a second rate film at best, seem a little better. That wasn't saying much though. Ariun was getting comfortable and he felt a slight calm come over him and he decided to give Krystal what she wanted. There were a couple soft popping sounds as Ariun changed, a large one emanating from his left one as he did this. Krystal let out a light squeal of excitement as she started fondling His feet... paws. Devon just laughed softly and scratched behind Ariun's ears and they continued with the movie.

Once you got into it, it wasn't such a bad movie. Boy meet's girl, Boy falls in love with girl, Girl finds out boy is a werewolf, she freaks for awhile and some dark hunter guy appears... long story short, she takes a bullet and save the boy. Okay so it was a pretty bad movie. It took about two long hours before they all saw credits appear and Ariun began to laugh horribly. Krestal was stoking his tail now, which she somehow got out of his jean, and was looking at him slightly confused. Devon sighed, knowing what was coming, and said, "What was so inaccurate about this one"

"Nothing" he replied laughing.

"Then way are you laughing" Asked Krystal.

"Because that girl was a stupid blonde slu..." cut off...

"She was in love!" Cried Krystal, she was back to fondling his paws, playing with the pads, a thing he really enjoyed.

"And look where it got her"

She shut up, unable to think of a good reply and Ariun sat up. He bones gave a couple more pops and his feet were back to normal. His tail receded and melted back into his spine and the ears were once again pink and cold. He stood up and began cleaning the mess up, just crust and six bottles, not much. Devon cleared his throat and said "it's nine thirty Krystal, we should probably get back... and it's Saturday night"

Ariun had just dumped the garbage in the trash, not caring if the family sees the bottles. Krystal though just looked at him and said, "It's only nine thirty, why would we want to g..." she paused... Friday nights were Ariun's run days and they both knew that "oh yeah... okay"

It was kind of funny thought Ariun; she's such a blonde sometimes... like the girl in the movie... but without the slut part. He walked back into the room "do you want me to show you two out"

Devon did a mock British voice and replied, "I do say that would be quite chipper my good sir"

Ariun and Krystal just burst into fits of laughter and she said "dork" as if reading Ariun's mind. When they finally calmed down, he gave a bow and said, "Right this way my good sir and miss"

He led them to the door, Krystal was still snickering slightly but she gave him a kiss and stepped out "see-ya"

Devon paused for a second and they stood there at the doorway. Ariun just smiled and kissed him on the check like Krystal did and he stepped out. There was a blush being repressed, Ariun and krestal both knew it and Devon just said "see-ya"

As they walked off, Ariun waved at them until they turned the corner and then he closed the door. He leaned against it for a moment and thought. Maybe I shouldn't have done that... he'll think that I like him maybe... that could be bad... or good... I don't know. His thoughts were conflicted. Devon was one of his best friends... not a love interest. He just shook his head and headed for the back door, and out into the backyard. He looked around quickly. There wasn't much movement from the surrounding houses... well none that would concern him anyways, and he took off. The forest was only a hundred yards off and was going for a stroll tonight.
