Seven Days Ago

"Lisa, my dear daughter, I'm proud of you. You are the first Pokèmon to ever be registered as a Trainer that will take the League Challenge. I salute you. Salamence will take you to Parzaa first to let you pick up your package then he will drop you off at Professor Jaclyn's Lab in Yellowgrase from there he will return here. Good luck and don't open the smaller box until the Professor tells you to."

"Okay."

Lisa said goodbye to her adoptive father. Her mate and daughter were in their balls, which were clamped onto the belt on her waist. She gave a curt bow then turned to mount the waiting Dragon Pokèmon.

Present Day

Lisa held the heavy box in her arms while she jumped off the Salamence. She turned to him and thanked him; he said nothing to her as he took off again leaving her alone in the wide, quiet street. Behind her sat a large stone building. Her knees quaked, she felt utterly lost now. She forced herself to remember her heritage. Being donned in the beginner female Trainer's clothes; she looked nearly human save the blue and black muzzle and fluffy tail coming out from the modified jeans.

After a calming sigh, she turned and went up the four-step flight of stairs then went inside. The main room was filled with books, but towards the back of the room stood a trio of people. One was in the white lab coat while the other two held the telltale signs of reporters. Now her nerves were starting to fray.

"Here she is, ladies and gentlemen. Lisa Parglouse, the adopted daughter of the overnight sensation Jason Parglouse of the Weedle Sweeters Corporation. She comes from the town of Parzaa, the first town ever to give Pokèmon Equal Rights. The current Mayor is an Alakazam. This is it, folks, history in the making. Let's watch."

"Lisa, come on up and ignore them for now." Professor Jaclyn turned her back on everyone and pulled a tray up to her that held a single ball. "First off, dear, open that box."

"Lu." She muttered in the native tongue forgetting that these humans cannot understand her.

She opened the box. It held a blue-black PokèDex, a strange broach, a Pokèmon Navigation unit, and a box of eighteen standard Pokèballs. She looked at the Professor in silent confusion. The Professor came over and pinned the broach onto the collar of Lisa's blouse. A smile from the white haired woman filled Lisa with warmth.

"Say something. Vocally."

"Okay, like anyone would understand me."

"Think again. Thanks to SilphCo and your father, they came up with this little device you are field testing for them. This receiver-less translator allows you to speak to those who do not know the native language like your father. That PokèDex is custom built as is all others, but this one is especially different. It will monitor the use of the broach and give updates to the company on its status, it also will act as an emergency device incase some fool thinks you are a normal Lucario. Other than that, it is a normal Pokèmon Defining Encyclopedia. Now for the official starter. It, in itself, is a rarity. It personally came and begged to be placed in a 'unique' Trainer's hands when the time came. That was two decades ago and she has denied me bringing her out until today. Go ahead and release her while I start the next step."

While the Professor moved away for a moment, Lisa called out the Pokèmon. As the form materialized, Lisa gasped. Even the reporter crew gasped and focused in on the Pokèmon. Sparks flew out as the transformation finished. Before them all, stood a shiny Zangoose. She howled and posed for the camera then smirked at her new Trainer. Her purple and white fur gleamed in the camera light.

"So, you are going to name me or what?"

The reporter woman nearly fainted. The Zangoose spoke.

"How about...Britney?"

"Good enough for me. Hey, Jaclyn... thanks. For everything." The female bowed towards the Professor as she returned with a digital camera.

"You welcome, and congratulations, Britney, you will have an interesting life."

"After twenty years of stasis, I hope so." The Zangoose smiled then went to stand beside her Trainer.

"Alright, Lisa, stand against the wall and try not to blink."

As Lisa did so, a red flash came from the camera then the white flash immediately afterwards.

"Alright, your own Trainer number is being formulated now... registered... and printed. Here you go." The Professor handed Lisa a new card with a new number. "Your account has been registered with your father's storage unit so your stored team members will be able to roam free and not be in stasis as is the norm. The paper maps we used to give Trainers are now digital and stored on the PokèDex. My work is done; the rest is up to you. Good luck out there."

"Thank you, Professor Jaclyn." Lisa bowed and placed a paw on Britney's shoulder.

"Lisa, we will be at every Gym battle and watching you move up to the League. Our support is here for you. Good luck." The reporter signed off. Then as the camera shut off, she turned back to the duo. "Off record, Britney, how did you learn to speak?"

"Born this way." She shrugged then looked up at the Lucario. "Ready, boss?"

"Every journey begins with that first step right? I've already taken mine. But I am ready to head out all the same."

As the two moved towards the door, Britney looked back. She would miss this place, the only place she knew as home since her younger years. Yeah, she was out and about for a few hours a month enough to keep the blood pumping, but not enough to get any true 'experience' with anything. She knew food, those dry pellets that tasted a little better than dirt, but she really knew books. Even books from a place where they had weird ways of saying things and no mention of any Pokèmon. She hoped she lived long enough to see a place like that, maybe not with current company, but someday.

Outside, Lisa pointed them towards Route 55 and headed out towards their first Gym. Rock based Pokèmon, Gene B. was all the PokèDex said about the gym and its leader. Lisa had studied Jason's for months and knew the Gym Leaders names by heart. Now only to face them, but first... they had to find a watery friend. They stopped at the creek, got a quick drink from the clean water, and then they looked around for any Water type nearby.

Lisa, we will be at every Gym battle and watching you move up to the League. Our support is here for you. Good luck.

The report ended and went back to the regular newscast. Jason muted the PC speakers then closed the window.

"So she made it big, good for her." An annoyingly high-pitched, nasally male voice squeaked beside Jason's ear. It was one of the newer recruits that had met her before they left to search for the Legendary Birds.

"Don't you have somewhere to be, Ricardo?" Jason tried to keep from growling as he turned to the Mienshao.

"Not for another hour. Did you see that Shiny?"

That's right, a Released one, keep forgetting about that with him. He's attached himself to me.

"Yeah, I did. This means I am going to have to go shopping. Excuse me." He stood up from the chair then started to move away from the Pokèmon.

"Can I come?"

"No, I shop with my partner." He said sternly to the Pokèmon.

"Please?" For a feline type of creature, it could do the puppy dog eyes quite well.

"No. Go train with Mitch and Ditch, I'm sure they will need some volunteers to help train the ones who never did hand-to-hand combat before."

"Fine, but don't go calling me when you can't decide on what Tele you want to buy."

"GET!" Jason howled out making the Pokèmon scramble away. Jason sighe, he would apologize later.

Champ came wandering in to see what all the yelling was about. He chomped loudly into an apple as the smaller Pokèmon scampered passed him.

"Really?" Champ said around the apple in his maw.

Jason just stared at his partner.

"That bad? Fine, hop on and we'll go."

"Thank you."

Lisa had just caught a Wooper when her first challenge as a Trainer crossed her path. A small kid tossed a ball at the back of her head, though Britney was faster and sliced the empty ball in half.

"Leave my Trainer alone, shrimp."

"Oy, it talks. I want it!" The boy grabbed the only ball from his belt and tossed it. "Go! Caterpie!"

"Really?" Lisa muttered. "Britney, do you care if Mona tries her luck?"

"Uh... sure."

Lisa called upon her daughter then stepped back. "Mona, use Iron Tail."

As the boy yelled for his Pokèmon to use String Shot, Mona attacked. She hit hard causing the Caterpie to erupt into a dust cloud. As the cloud settled, Caterpie sat just at the edge of the impact sight shaking nervously.

"Fire Punch." "Oy, that ain't legal!"

"Nor is you trying to capture a Trainer and trying to steal her Pokèmon. Try not to kill her, sweetie."

Mona did as her mother asked and struck the bug with an enflamed fist; the Bug type squealed as it few into her Trainer's chest.

"Caterpie?" The boy stared at the motionless Pokèmon.

"She's down, payment... now."

The boy grumbled but pulled his Trainer's card out and tossed it at Lisa's feet. She grabbed it and inserted it into her PokèDex transfer slot. It transferred half of the boy's funds to her account, which she was shocked to see only five thousand in it before the transfer. She tossed the card back at the boy, which hit him in the forehead.

"Next time keep up on the news, your victim may just be the star of the nation. Let's go, girls."

When they got away from the Trainer, Lisa released Adrian. He shrugged as he eased some tension in his back then picked up his daughter. He then looked at Britney with a smile. She looked him over with a grin that could be considered as lustful. Lisa snorted; the two averted their gazes quickly enough.

"So, who's the new one?"

"Britney, this is Adrian, my mate. Adrian, Britney, my starter."

"Hey," They said to each other. Britney giggled.

"Adrian..."

"I'm not flirting, dear. Besides, we're teammates; we kind of have to get along well with each other."

"Yeah, right. And your Aura is not showing any type of arousal either." Lisa retorted sarcastically. "Come on, I would like to get at least halfway to town before sunset and keep you from jumping anyone's tail."

"Oh, snap! She got you pinned down!" Britney chuckled then started to walk the Route again.

"Funny," Adrian muttered then followed behind his Trainer with his daughter in arm. "So, if I remember right, we will need a Water type handy."

"Already a step behind, love." Lisa patted the Wooper's ball. "I caught a Wooper not too long ago."

"Great, a Pokèmon that general is smart enough not to let itself dry out then has the capture system wipe its mind completely."

"Says you. Come on out, Wooper." Lisa pressed the button twice while it was attached to the belt. It opened and pinched her.

Beside her, formed from within the red light, came a little blue, armless creature. "It too hot." The young male said.

Lisa started going through her PokèDex and opened the status page. "Wow, experience level is considered at nineteen which means you will be evolving soon."

"Keep rock, no glow, yes?"

"No. Want glow. Become strong." Lisa 'dumbed' down for the Wooper.

"Frank no want glow. Swim fast."

Adrian laughed lightly. "Good luck, dear, we'll catch up to Britney."

"The moment I sense any type of arousal from you, you will be recalled. Got that?"

"Got it. Remember, my Trainer, it is only a natural response to- " Adrian turned to look at his mate after passing her up. "- have bodily functions that react to scents. Just like your anger... um... I'll be good."

"Better be... Anyway. Frank, do you not want to be strong for the ladies?"

"Ladies?" Frank cocked his head making his gills quiver with the movement.

"Yeah, so you can mate later on."

"Good?"

"Better." Lisa just wanted to rip the male's head off, but she held her temper so she could use it against Adrian later. He was going to learn she meant business.

"Take rock." Frank dry heaved a couple of times before vomiting up a single black rock that was completely worthless.

She picked it up anyway and stuck it in her pack. "Come, before they leave us."

She moved on, but she looked back and was forced to yell at Frank. He waddled up beside her then they went on. Catching up to Adrian and the girls, Lisa had the start of a headache. Just to keep from repeating herself, she recalled Frank and sighed.

"Told you so." Adrian chuckled.

Lisa huffed then kidney punched him. He gasped and nearly dropped Mona.

"If you two lovebirds are done squabbling, there's another Trainer trying to hide in the bushes ahead of us." Britney growled and flexed her claws.

"Good, Adrian, these next couple of battles is yours. Mona, Britney, return." Two beams of light came form the balls in her paws and struck the respective occupants. "Let's go."

Lisa adjusted her blouse then put her hat back between her ears. She started to look directly into every bush with a certain bloodlust that she knew she would have to have just to get every badge possible. In the shallow pocket of her jeans, sat the empty badge case with the standard eight slots.

"Come out, come out, wherever you are! I can smell the confidence you have on you." Lisa said quietly. Two bushes ahead rustled. She raced ahead of Adrian and caught a schoolgirl cowering. "I found you. I want a battle."

The girl shook her head and held her Pokèball close to her chest.

"It is the rules, sweetie. Come on."

The girl clenched her eyes shut and whimpered.

Lisa sighed then grabbed her by the underarms and lifted her out of the bush and back onto the dirt road. She brushed the girl off then wiped a tear from her cheek. "Okay, what's wrong?"

"There was this big guy, he hurt my little Priscilla."

Lisa bit her lip as she thought a plan through. "Come with me, I am heading to the next town. They should have a center there in Naviosse, right?"

The girl nodded slowly another tear rolled down her cheek.

"Hang onto my Adrian, he'll keep you safe from any big guys."

The girl did so. Being roughly seven years, by Lisa's guess, she was shorter than both of them. She had to wonder what kind of male would pick on a pup of any race.

Lisa heard shouting up ahead, she looked at Adrian who quickly swung the girl onto his back and raced along side his Trainer to the commotion. When they caught up, a chubby balding man ordered a Scyther to end the battle. The girl on Adrian's back whimpered. The bug catcher watched as his Butterfree was knocked from the air and stomped on. The boy recalled the bug and dug out a card.

"Hey, bastard! Why don't you pick on someone closer to your size... like a Snorlax!" Lisa growled.

"Hooho, my lucky day. Two Lucario wandering around and one's playing human. Ha! You're going to be mine!"

"I am Lisa Parglouse, Trainer, and I am going to put you into your place. Adrian, go."

A quick hand off with the girl, Adrian rushed forward and slid into his fighting pose. The Scyther was quick to follow suit to protect its Master. The man chuckled then ordered the bug to 'Slice 'n' Dice' the mutts. Immediately they knew what the bug was doing as it crossed its scythes and focused energy into them.

"Extreme Speed." Lisa ordered.

Adrian vanished before the bug could even move. The bug spun about trying to find the Lucario. It found him, in the middle of its back. The bug went flying into the tree line snapping a few of the younger trees.

"What the- ? Return, you useless bug. Go, Dratini."

"Ready Dragon Pulse."

"Shit..." The man muttered as the Dratini formed.

"Release."

Adrian shifted his body sending the Aura energy into a wave, it struck the Dratini head-on and sent it flying into the man who held his ground.

"Get up, you lazy serpent."

The Dragon did not move.

"Wretched beast. Return!" The man grumbled and reached for his last ball. Out came a Nidoran female. She cowered as he yelled but she held her ground. "Poison Sting."

Lisa sighed. "Dodge then use Psychic."

Adrian faltered a little, but did as he was told. The Nidoran was thrown in the direction of the Scyther. No sound came from the female afterwards.

"Useless beasts! I had enough of this!" The man ripped off his belt then tossed it to the ground then stormed away.

Lisa picked up the discarded balls and returned the three to the balls. She held onto them as she looked at the boy then to the girl. She said one word to the boy, and he followed quietly. The group walked silently down the Route and soon saw the signs of town life. As they entered town, the police had the man surrounded and Officer Jenny motioned the three towards the Center.

"Don't bother, Miss Parglouse, that broach gave us all we need to arrest him. You are able to adopt those three if you want."

"You know what, if it's alright, I would like to see these two take the Nidoran and Scyther."

The kids perked up and looked at Lisa.

"They could use a strong partner that would be very thankful for having a... quieter life."

"And the other?"

"I'll take the Dratini, I doubt either of these two would have the patience to train a Dragon type."

"I think those three will be happy with that choice."

"I will ask them when they are able to respond though, it wouldn't be fair to them if they don't have a say." Lisa looked upon the three balls and sighed.

"Well, as an Officer of the Law and an ex-Ranger. I can see that decision rather well. I'll wipe the OT number from the registry so they can be adopted as such when they are ready."

"Thank you, Officer Jenny."

"You're welcome, you three behave and good luck."

Lisa grinned, being something out of the taboo never felt so good. Lisa bowed slightly then turned towards the PokèCenter where they could heal the wounded and complete the adoptions.

Once the InstaHeal device was finished with all of the Pokèballs, Lisa released the three disowned. They reformed and cowered expecting a beating each. One by one, they realized nothing was smacking them or probing them or whatever. They looked for their Master and when none found the man, they sighed with relief.

"Right, the man disowned you as you three can tell. As soon as Officer Jenny is done, adoption papers will be made up. I was thinking of letting the young male take Scyther, the young female take Nidoran, and I Dratini. But I wanted your intake of all of this, so?"

The three looked at each other, Dratini smiled.

: I don't know what they think, but after seeing your skills as a Master, I would not made going with you. I can sense that you would never treat us like animals considering you are one of us. :

"Thank you."

The other two did not speak, but they did go to the respective kid and examined them.

"I take it they don't mind the idea of being separated."

Dratini shook it's head. Lisa still wasn't too sure how to sex it or the Scyther. They both smelled too much like blood and sweat.

"Alright, let's go see if the adoption papers are ready. Then a bath I call."

"For who?" The girl asked.

"All three. They smell of blood and sweat.

"Are you sure?"

"Child, I have sewn the guts back into a Snorlax within the past two weeks, nothing will surprise me anymore." Lisa's facial expression fell to a neutral state as she remembered the battle that delayed her departure. "Bathing someone who cannot do it fully on their own does not bother me. I just pray that I never have to see another being ripped opened like I did."

"Did it survive, the Snorlax?"

"She lives, sworn off eating for a while, but she'll survive."

"What happened?" The boy asked.

Lisa looked at her small group even the Pokèmon stared at her waiting for an answer. "My home was attacked. We work in Arceus' name, which the attack shows that there are those out there who are against the pure way of life. You see, my father made this giant tree our home, and with that came a lifestyle that matched. Living off the land as all should. There is a corrupt side, an evil side that will try everything to destroy the work Arceus has blessed. We lost lives two weeks ago because of this evil. We won, yes, but families lost loved ones because of it. Soon this battle will come to the rest of the world. I think I am doing my fair share of the work Arceus has planned by being a Trainer, to show that even Pokèmon are smart enough to do what humans can do. None of us can survive long without the other. If this balance is broken... the world will fall."

"Can I help?" The boy asked.

Lisa looked at him slightly dumbfounded. "Uh... Sure, I don't see why not. Every able being that can fight or do other things are always welcome. Work your way to the town of Parzaa and you will be able to see my home from there."

"You aren't going to take us?" The girl asked quietly.

"How can you become stronger if you are not willing to take the journey on your own? Going with friends makes it easier, but it is the challenge that makes you stronger. This is why I must stick to the Gym Challenge. I have to get stronger for my father and sister."

The girl's eyes glossed over as she listened to Lisa, no more was the Lucario in front of her but a role model 'Warrior-princess.'

"Anyway, what's your names?"

"Todd."

"Macy."

"It's honor to meet you two formally, I am Lisa. Shall we finish up here?"

Both nodded then went to the counter to talk to Joy. Lisa hung back briefly and looked at her new companion.

"So," She said quietly. "I cannot judge over the over laying stench."

: Male. Just... young. The Scyther is female. :

"Thank you."

: Truly understandable. At times, we had to resort to scent marking to tell our sleeping areas apart.:

Lisa nodded knowing that the humans would not understand the Dratini's speech; she fell back on her Telepathy to respond. I do not think the need to piss on things will be an issue any more even if we three stick together as a traveling Trainer group.

: Telepathy? Trainer group? You are going for the whole Human-Pokèmon equality thing like on the picture box. :

"Ah, the television, yes... I am that Lisa, and I am doing the whole Equal Rights thing." Lisa ushered the male forward then looked up at Joy.

She never truly thought about how short she was until being next to the children. She let the thought slide as Joy slid a pamphlet in front of her and a pen. She filled out the necessary areas in script then slid it back towards Joy. The nurse smiled as she checked everything, though the shock could be seen in her eyes as she looked at the near perfect handwriting the Lucario had done.

"Everything appears to be in order. Dratini is yours; care to add a name to the registry?"

Lisa turned to the male.

: Never had a name that I know of. :

"Let's mark him down as... Justice."

"You're choice. It's final. Good luck out there kids." Joy had a false smile; Lisa read her Aura and found that she was rather bored of this life.

The trio walked outside, Lisa attempted to send the children off on their own. Todd refused to go, Macy followed the boy. Lisa just wanted a quiet moment after the events today. She reluctantly agreed to travel with them then told them that when she was in her tent, she was not to be disturbed. They were confused at that rule but agreed to it.

Lisa turned without a word and started to walk. The other two asked when they would get to the first Gym. She just rubbed her muzzle and tried to focus her temper back down. Already she knew this was going to try her patience, yet she also knew that Fate had an ill sense of humor. She recalled Frank and let out Adrian. He groaned as he flexed stiff muscles then matched her pace ignoring the children.

They are going to drive me insane, I just know it. If I didn't know any better, I'd say Jason had a hand in this mess.

Lisa sent the message to her mate as she kept walking.

It's good practice. Especially when you want more little ones.

Adrian let a lustful growl escape as he used his tail to brush hers.

"There's children present, dear." She said sternly as the two caught up and looked at Adrian.

"This is the one that saved us. Thank you." Todd grinned as he tried to match Lisa's energetic pace. "Where's the fire, Lisa? It's not like the Gym is going to be shut down."

"It's a poss... possi... It might just happen." Macy bit her lip as she tried not to get embarrassed about her speech.

"Pos-si-bil-ity." Lisa annunciated. "And, no, I am not worried about the Gym. I just don't want to sleep in town. Too much time spent in the woods, I guess. Besides, the weather report said there is supposed to be a meteor shower tonight and I want to be away from the lights."

Adrian knew better than to accept that lame excuse, he could smell the reason she wanted to be out of town. He grinned and kept quiet, he would get his in due time.

"Yeah, that one." Champ pointed at the huge seventy-two inch flat screen that was priced over a million PokèYen.

"Dream all you want, I am not draining my account on that monster. The fifty is just fine and it's on sale."

Champ growled and crossed his arms, "Fine."

Jason pulled the box from the self and placed it into the cart then wheeled it to the register. He greeted the new cashier and handed over his account card. He also signed up for a satellite contract, the deluxe package. The cashier went wide-eyed as she read the address; she called the manager, Mark, to get it Okayed.

"Jason! My man, wazzup?" Mark joked and got a smile out of Jason.

"As you know. Lisa's doing the Challenge; we have to keep up on the news and whatnot."

"Yeah, heard that. She's already causing a stir. Heard the motel is booked for the next year. Speaking of which, I'm looking to 'enhance' my business soon."

"Great! Bring the plans down to see if my crew can help. Who knows, you might come out ahead. Those power lifters need something to occupy them."

"Will do. This weekend alright?"

"Whenever you can. Oh, before I forget, you next shipment will be a tad late, a couple of my girls caught a bug and it slow the silk making. The few Caterpies stepped in but it didn't go as well as planned."

"How much later?"

"A week."

"Well, tell the girls to get well for me." Mark sighed at least it wasn't a disastrous period of time.

"Will do."

"We'll have the installer at the Tree soon. I'll make it a rush order. I'll also make sure the PPV is account access only. I know what it's like with a Pokèmon who is addicted to those movies."

"Tell me about it." Jason said in agreement. "To change the subject have you seen May around? The one with the... Morph?"

"Ah, she's been hovering around Jovah. Poor guy, but he is enjoying the company."

"Something tells me its more for his pleasure than anything else. Well, we'll be off. Try not to run off the newbie." Jason laughed as he winked at the young woman then snagged the receipt before Champ walked out with the new set.

Outside, Champ waited as he gripped the box. Jason shook his head and stood beside him. After a brief moment of silence, Jason told the Char that he wanted to find the other Trainer and find out what her goal was. Champ did his best to fight the decision, but in the end, he did want away from his own mate and young for a while longer. With a sigh, the Charizard hefted the forty-pound box unto his shoulder and followed his 'boy' silently.
