Now then, chapter 2. In which we learn a bit more about Butch and Clark. Apologies for the shortness of these, I plan on having these chapters be short, around 1000-1500 words, as any more may kill what muse i have for this.

There were many times where you had to have faith in someone, even if you hated them to their core. A time where you had to depend on others, even if you didn't want it, or did you like it. Today is one of those days for two digimon who were grouped up on the command of their manager. For what reason, they'll probably never know. It all started out as a simple workday. Both Clark and Butch had been lugging bags back and forth with a sudden flow of guests staying at the hotel for the week. They didn't know why, nor did they desire to know why.

Then everything exploded into chaos when a group of several humans and their digimon decided to stay for a few days.

After taking in their bags, Clark had left Butch alone for not even five minutes and returned to the scene of said Monodramon gnawing on the human's arm as if he was chewing on a piece of meat. The human's partner digimon was knocked out in the hallway, so it was up to him to break them up.

"Let go!"

"No! He tastes great!" Butch said in between bites.

"Boss will have our heads if you eat him!" Clark cried out as he tried pulling off the purple dragon with all of his effort. Why was he so freaking heavy!?

At the prospect of being eaten, in a feat of strength, the human teenager had gotten up and thrown the two dragons toward the wall then began clutching his arm and inspecting for any wounds. "You guys are crazy! I'm out of here!" he wailed as he picked up his partner and bolted for the exit.

Butch and Clark stood up, both looking embarrassed as some of their co-workers had been watching the scene from the ends of the hallway or from an open room door. Suddenly everything had gone quiet before a roaring sound echoed through the entire hotel.

"CLARK. BUTCH. OFFICE, NOW."

"Okay...that didn't go as well as expected." Butch muttered as he and Clark left their manager's office. The veemon glared at the monodramon with an intensity that he didn't even know he could produce. Their small walk soon took the two to an elevator back to their floor. Pressing the "1" button, they were soon on their way back to work. Clark had kept glaring at Butch, and since they were currently alone, he decided to speak his mind.

"Better than expected? You almost ate a guest!" Clark said as he waved his arms about. As he did this, Butch couldn't help but notice something on the blue dragon's wrist. Cocking his head to the side, he decided to take the conversation to another topic.

"Hey, what's that on your arm?" He questioned innocently. The victory dragon's eyes blinked owlishly before glancing at the thing Butch was pointing at. Clark had a gorgeous looking bracelet in a gold finish. It had a simple design and didn't have any trinkets on it. A somewhat depressed look adorned the dragon's face but soon disappeared. "It's nothing."

An evil smirk soon appeared on the purple dragon's face. Eyes narrowed, he soon tackled his blue companion and began tickling him. Yes, this was an odd move for one like Butch, but with the current mood being completely tense, he figured he might as well lighten the mood with some tickling. In the monodramon's mind, it made complete sense. Would it work for Clark?

"Stop tickling me, fatass!" The veemon cried in between laughs.

"Not until you tell me what the bracelet's for!" Butch demanded with a smirk.

"Never!"

And so their tickle fight continued in the confines of the elevator. Unknown to the monodramon or veemon, the lights shut off with a click, the elevator halting to a stop. The two digimon righted themselves up, then glanced at each other, then the elevator door.

This was very bad. Why did the elevator have to mess up now of all times!? If they didn't get back to work, odds were that their boss was going to abolish everything he had said previously and just get rid of them! Clark began pacing around the elevator in a panic, whereas Butch had decided to plop his butt on the floor.

"We're dead, we're dead, we're dead." He repeated to himself as he paced around the small space. Butch had stayed on the ground, yawning occasionally and picking at his nose. The seconds ticked by before the panicking veemon directed his attention at the lounging purple dragon.

"Just what is with you!?" he cried out, arms flailing.

Butch just cocked his head to the side. "What?"

"Don't "what" me, Boss is going to have our heads over this!"

"For the elevator screwing up? I doubt it. Boss will find some way to get us out of here." The monodramon waved the veemon off with a sigh. Clark just sighed, defeated. The blue dragon pinched his nose, trying to calm himself down. Why couldn't be like Butch? Here he was, being lazy as he was while on the job and wasn't even batting an eye in this situation.

"Just why do you have so much faith in Boss that he'll help us?" The veemon crossed his arms, eyeing the other rookie.

Butch replied with a shrug. "I'd say...if you tell me about the bracelet." The monodramon said with a sly look on his face.

Clark's hand met his face with a groan. Putting a hand forward, he shook Butch's paw.

"Well, you see, Boss is sort of like the closest thing I've got to a friend here. You probably think it's stupid, but I don't. This world is ruthless; I bet no one would even care if someone suddenly killed me without a second thought. Boss, in his own odd way actually cares about his employees. He's only ever had to fire a few and those always got on his nerves or he needed to make examples."

"Then why not make an example of you or me?" Clark interrupted. "I know for a fact that this whole human consumption thing didn't pop up overnight, or did your insatiable appetite." The veemon huffed, jabbing a claw at Butch's stomach. The monodramon just rolled his eyes. "I'm as lazy as sin when it comes to this job, so I'd like some light shed."

"Dunno, he probably sees something in the both of us? He's helped me in a lot of situations. You remember that whole incident with those thugs from Terminus?" Butch asked.

The veemon nodded, the memory fresh in his mind. About a few months ago, some group of criminals under the name of the "La Famigilia" had shown up at their hotel asking for some idiot's head as an act of revenge and almost tore the place apart had not Boss stopped them. Blinking rapidly, he then stared at the monodramon, who had a look of embarrassment on his face.

"That was you? What did you even do?" Clark asked.

That same sly look returned on the monodramon's face. "Not until you spill about the bracelet." The blue dragon scowled.

"Fine. I actually don't know where it came from. I've had it since I was but a Chibomon, but I don't even know who or why someone gave it to me." The veemon shrugged his shoulders. "We're known for good luck, so I'm hoping a clue or something may come up while I'm working here, but I doubt it." He finished.

Butch's look of anticipation from the veemon's story had soon deflated in no time flat. "Tch, here I was hoping for a juicy story." The purple rookie glanced at the bracelet in some sort of attempt to find something special about it, but failed. "If it's just that, why not tell me when I asked?"

"Would you believe me?" The veemon questioned with a raised brow.

Butch put a claw to his head. "Well, you've been lounging around in the guest rooms when they're sometimes not there or in recently cleaned rooms..."

"Okay, enough of my habits, why were those guys after you?"

Butch coughed lightly, not making eye contact with the veemon. "Um...I killed and loaded the data of one of their members, weird huh? So anyways, about-"

"Wait, what!?" Clark exclaimed. Butch rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. Just what part about this was supposed to be embarrassing!?"Yeah, it happened one day while I was in Terminus. I decided to look for something to snack on in a restaurant. When I got my order, one of their goons snatched it from me; I think it was a Leomon or something. After that, everything went red and I woke up in the outskirts and they apparently followed me. Funny, huh? I don't even know if I even killed him or not, the memory's a blur. I'm really sensitive about digimon taking my food..." Butch said nervously, a blush rising up on his face.

Clark just stared owlishly at the monodramon, shaking his head in disbelief. "Well, if Boss went and saved my ass, I'd be grateful to him too." The veemon nodded. "I can see why you're so...dedicated and faithful, but at least you've made me see him in a different light." Clark decided.

"Yeah, he's really not that mean, he just comes off as it.

"The flaming sword embedded into his wall says otherwise, but okay.

"I love how you two are talking about little old me on your break." A static voice cut in.

The veemon and monodramon looked around, and their direction was now toward the elevator speaker. They both glanced at each other nervously, and then back at the speaker.

"Boss?" Butch spoke up.

"Yup. I was wondering when the both of you were going to realize that one of you had pressed the emergency stop button, but looks like I was wrong." The ryudamon grumbled sourly.

A resounding slap was heard from the veemon and monodramon. So they could have gotten out of this with a simple press of a button. Their minds flashed back to the little scuffle they had beforehand and they both hung their heads in sadness. Clark pushed the aforementioned button and the elevator was going back to the lobby.

"This time spent is coming out of your break, you know that, right?"

"Yes Boss." The two digimon groaned.
