Hey guys, sorry for the wait. I had a lot going on. And as some of you may have noticed, the story was turned into an RP. But thankfully it died. So now I can go back to simply writing.

Seth sat up in his bed. The sight of the dip in the sheets where his leg should be filled him with an indescribable feeling. A mix of dread and sorrow. Once he had calmed down, he put his leg back on and walked outside. It was still very early but there were already people out and about. He made his way over to the mess hall for some breakfast. It was bacon and eggs. It was by far the most delicious thing Seth had eaten since he had escaped. After breakfast he headed over to the tent where his other leg was being built, but found it empty. He passed the time by getting in some practice with the throwing knives he had picked up off of that human a while back. Seth only stuck about one out of every ten throws, and eventually gave up. When he returned to the engineering tent, Tom presented him his new leg. This one was much easier to walk in, but was also much heavier. While walking around and getting used to the leg, he stumbled across the store room. One thing in particular caught Seth's eye: a very large crate simply labeled, "15.2mm" When he asked the person taking inventory, Seth was informed that they picked the crate up a while ago in a raid of a human convoy. They are very large sniper rounds, but they don't have a rifle to fire them. Seth, thinking out loud, wondered if he could build a rifle around the bullet. The person taking inventory told Seth he should go see Franklin Marchinko, the gun smith.

On his way to go see had Frank, Seth ran into Emma. Together the toured the rest of the camp. There wasn't much else to see, but the most important thing was the shooting range. It was located underground to reduce noise. Once they were done, Seth had something to ask.

"The suppression field, is that being done by a machine?"

"Nope, that is Rain's doing. She keeps it going 24/7."

"That's incredible! How is she able to do that? Where is she getting her magic from?"

"When she was young, her village was raided by humans. She was hit with some sort of magic attack. I don't know what it was supposed to do, but instead it gave her body the ability to produce mana on its own. It's almost a curse, however. If she isn't constantly using the magic, it will build up until, well, no one knows what will happen, but it can't be good."

After that they went their separate ways and Seth set out to find Mr. Marchinko. As he passed the store room, however, he decided he should look for some supplies and a plan first. However, after staring at a blank piece of paper for several minutes without having a single idea, he decided to go get some inspiration. Seth made his way to the arms-storage area where he found a wolf Keidran sitting behind the desk, ear-buds in reading a magazine.

"Excuse me... EXCUSE ME!" after getting the wolf's attention, Seth continued. "Are there any long-range rifles here? I mean big ones."

"None that work." The wolf replied, "But there is one that we picked up a while ago. Some brilliant shooter didn't realize he had a squib round and now there are something like five rounds stacked up in the barrel. I don't even know why we kept it."

"That's fine; I just need to look at it." Seth said eagerly.

"Sure, it's right over there." The wolf said pointing towards the back of the room before putting his ear-buds back in and looking back to his magazine.

Lucky for Seth, it was a very simple single-shot, large caliber sniper rifle. The type where the butt-plate comes off to load the next round. He wasn't sure, but he thought he could see a bulge about half way down the barrel where the bullets must be stacked up. Seth wasted no time; he sat down and started drawing and simultaneously taking the rifle apart.

Because most of the rifle was so very simple, Seth figured it wouldn't be too hard to make. He even went to far as to fine a steel rod and have it hardened by the base's alchemist. Soon though he needed help from an actual gun smith. So he went again to find Frank Marchinko.

Once he finally found the gun smith, Seth handed over the plans and raw materials he had gathered. Most of the stuff was easy work, but it is precision work and a one man job for the most part. So Seth left him alone to see if there was any way he could help the base. After all, he was being a material sponge, so to say. What, with is two legs, his tent, and now this rifle, he was using a lot of their resources. After asking around, the only thing that he was really cut out for was patrolling the surrounding area for scouts. Seth was told that they are far and few between in these parts, but its shoot on sight. The rebel scouts have an advantage though: Rain can make it so that if they are not moving, they blend into the scenery. It isn't perfect, but unless you are looking for them, you won't see them. This spell has its limits however. To Rain's knowledge, she is the only one who can cast it. It takes an enormous amount of magic, and the user must stay in range. With all of this in mind, Seth suited up and headed out.
