Chapter Three

The Evolution of Friendship

Morning came bright and early to the smell of breakfast cooking at the small kitchen space next to the sink in the main laboratory lounge where everyone slept, which in turn caused Evin to sit up on the couch with a groan. Riolu gave a tired bark when she woke to his legs moving beneath her before he then quietly said she could sleep longer if she wanted. Getting up and going to what he thought looked like a back door to the lounge, he took a look outside to see what was in back of the lab.

Standing at the glass door he saw a wide-open fenced yard with a few pokemon roaming around the pastures, some were at a large pond, and others were in what looked like an apple tree orchard. From what he could make of their' facial expressions and movements from where he was standing, the pokemon all seemed happy, which made him wonder what their lives were actually like.

Then Juniper surprised him as she came over and said, "It's amazing isn't it, the world of pokemon. Many people don't really appreciate how intelligent they really are and say they are only tools or animals, but I see them as people living natural lives. Without the use or need of technology to help them along their ways, they have for the most part as a coherent whole managed to do what we humans have not, which is the simplest thing as coexisting with each other in relative harmony. They are really wonderful creatures to be around, so I hope you will show your companions the respect they deserve as they accompany you."

Evin sighed and agreed that pokemon were too smart to just be tools, then began telling her about his strange dream during the night. Juniper had a rather gaunt expression before she said, "Things in this region have gotten real bad lately and I still morn for the trainers I have lost of late, which is why I almost turned you and Dawn away, but after what you told me, it sounds like making you go somewhere else would be a mistake.

Your dream sounds something like a premonition of something to come and I can now only hope that you will really be up to the task when the time comes as I now let you both venture forth into the danger of the unknown. Be sure to keep an eye on Dawn, I've heard of these teams doing awful things to girls lately and I don't want to hear that she was a victim of any of those things." Evin promised he would look after her as best he could and the professor nodded before both went to the table and sat down to eat as the others finally got up and gathered at the table as well.

Dawn couldn't figure out why Evin and Juniper were so quiet as they ate, but then after a small while, she got tired of the silence and jump-started conversation by asking where Evin was from. This immediately caused everyone else to stop moving as they froze and from their reactions Dawn and Piplup both looked at the others with what could only be described as question marks from wondering why this question seemed to bother them.

The professor then said, "He's from a small unknown village in Lostlorn Forest; it's a very curious place that most people avoid as it is close to the center of this region and holds many unexplained mysteries." Dawn looked up the forest on her pokenav and got some descriptions on the place, which in a small way, was a bit offsetting for her understanding of what kind of life Evin must have had. In a way, it now made sense why the others froze to the question of his origin, since after seeing the data on her pokenav, she was certain that just the mentioning of that place would cause others to avoid him.

Now that she knew this, Evin's identity now felt even more mysterious to her than ever, as wonder and awe of the thought of living in such a place swept through her mind. Piplup pecked her arm to snap her out of her daydream before she told everyone she was sorry and began asking Evin more about himself. So with some unease in the air the small conversations of the morning started and went on for a short while until everyone had finished eating and were ready to start the day. Once finished adjusting their packs, Evin and Dawn were ready to go and the Professor bid them a safe journey before everyone said goodbye as they set off for the great wide world outside the door.

Once outside, Evin breathed a sigh of relief as some stress seemed to come off his shoulders. The Professor's ever active calculating mind had been both caring and complicated to be around as her presents alone had Evin's own subconscious mind working overtime to get a bead on her, which at the same time had been running him down like he had been working on schoolwork all day. But now the morning air was brisk and refreshing as his head cleared and they now set off down the long road ahead.

A small span of time passed as they walked before Evin began talking to Riolu about whether or not they should participate in some gym battles and what kind of challenges they might face, but it wasn't long before they came across their first trainer. A teen no older than Evin or Dawn with blond spiked hair and a scare over his left eye brow came over and asked to battle Evin. Of course Evin wasn't sure how this would all play out, but just to make things a little interesting he accepted.

Being that he wanted to get used to how a real battle felt and that he also wanted to assess how good his new crew really was as he now looked at Oshawott's ball, Evin felt that this was probably the best possible way to get to know both of his new pokemon and maybe earn some respect. Riolu was feeling much better than the day before and was more than happy to step up while Dawn acted as the referee before the battle began.

The trainer called forth his starter pokemon Tepig first, the pokemon that he had gotten from the Professor a few days before, but had yet left town since he wanted to advance a bit before he set off. With Riolu still under evolved, it looked like an even match, though Evin wondered if Riolu was recovered enough to be in a fight like this just yet. But Riolu looked absolutely thrilled as she happily removed her bandages and was soon ready to go.

Being that none of the two pokemon had a type advantage, Evin was confident that she could most likely win the fight with the moves she had as he looked them up in his new pokedex. He looked up the moves she knew and saw that they were the usual young riolu moves of karate chop, force palm, detect, and counter.

Riolu was determined to show her worth right away though and as soon as the match began she dashed ahead without orders and rushed the little pig with surprising speed and force palmed it right in the face. Tepig squealed as it rolled across the field, but then stood up again as its trainer called a move to it. It started to run and tried to perform a tackle on Riolu, but in doing so, it suddenly fell back to the ground again paralyzed. Evin at this time, knowing it wasn't good for a pokemon to act completely on their own in official battles called to Riolu to listen to him and that she needed to wait for his orders before attacking so that they could work as a team.

Riolu didn't seem to pay him much attention though and happily ignored him as she rushed in again and used karate chop on the downed pig and when it still couldn't move the trainer called it back and sent out a pidove. Since Riolu was not listening and now there was a type disadvantage, Evin contemplated using Riolu's pokeball to call back his misbehaving pokemon. Seeing that he had no choice when she didn't come back to him when he called her again, he used her ball and removed her from the field as he expressed some frustration.

The other trainer was relieved to see the unpredictable pokemon taken out of the battle as Evin said over Riolu's ball "You need a time out." and then put out his new Oshawott who jumped with excitement at her first battle. The match started and Evin called for a water gun while the other trainer called gust, and so the rigorous battle between the small otter and bird pokemon commenced as Evin got into the groove of things.

Oshawott jumped left and the pidove shot right as attacks missed their marks; it was the beginning of an epic battle as water rained down from above after the attacks. Once again both trainers called for different attacks and as before both missed hitting the other in this game of extreme dodge ball. Seeing that both pokemon were equally adept at dodging long range attacks, the other trainer called for his pidove to use tackle and as it rushed in Evin called for the same attack.

Both pokemon collided with addible force, but because Oshawott was heavier from being more ground based than the small pigeon the small bird faltered as it tumbled over onto its back with Oshawott then forcing it into the ground as they came to a sliding stop. Pidove was down as Oshawott then stood from her conquered foe victorious, but was just barely able to stay on her wobbly feet after it was over. Then unexpectedly the trainer surprised Evin by calling out another different pokemon other than his tepig; it was a watchog, he had been saving his best for last.

Oshawott was in no condition for another battle, so Evin called her back and said over her ball that she did a good job and that he was proud to be her trainer and then held up Riolu's ball and said to the other trainer, "You know she wont listen to me; is this what you want?" the trainer yelled back, "I'll teach her a lesson for you."

Evin by far didn't want Riolu to get hurt, but she did need to learn to take orders in a fight if they were to ever going to work well as a team. So with that, Evin put her back into the field and asked, "Okay Riolu, you ready to listen to what I tell you?" Riolu just shook her head back and forth with a smile in happy mischievous defiance.

Then just as soon as Dawn signaled for the battle to commence Riolu once again rushed forward, but unlike last the time she did this, the evolved pokemon dodged and slapped her with its tail, sending her sprawling in the dirt a yard away. Angered with dirt allover her fur and nose, Riolu picked herself up and began a tantrum of attacks to try and hit the meerkat like pokemon. Evin could tell it was an unfair match with Riolu at the losing end at the rate she was going and in trying to help her he started calling out orders.

But she still ignored him, and the fight went on and on with Watchog staying perfectly calm and collected as it easily dodged Riolu's clumsy attacks and used double team one right after the other. Riolu continued her attacks until she was completely worn out and could barely stand.

Evin was in awe at seeing a pokemon using double team and actually seeing mirror images of the pokemon as it effortlessly evaded every attack thrown at it. But once Riolu's attacks stopped, Watchog launched its own and began battering her back and forth. It went on like this for a while until the Watchog was about to land the finishing blow and at the last second Evin called out, "Detect." Finally using the move that he had called for, Riolu twirled away from the attack unscathed, but still completely exhausted.

The other trainer laughed and then taunted her as he said, "Awe, so you finally developed a brain and listened to your trainer." Then sounding more serious, "There is a reason why we are called trainers you know." Riolu huffed and barked at him angrily and almost rushed in again, but this time Evin called for her to stay put and ignore him.

Riolu begrudgingly obeyed and stood still as the other trainer made a few faces at her. She wanted to rip the other trainer's face off and beat the tar out of the Watchog, but instead waited for Evin's next order. She waited for what seemed like forever as she looked back at Evin to see what was taking him so long, while the Watchog and trainer taunted her with feints and comments. A minute passed and still nothing happened. But then just when she was beginning to doubt Evin's resolve, the ground shook a little as the watchog leaped into the air with two doubles mirroring its actions as it came at her with hyper fang so that it looked like three watchdogs were attacking at once.

Evin called for a force palm to her upper right which slightly confused her for a moment but then did what he said and aimed for that specified spot before (CRUNCH!). She nailed the Watchog right in the teeth as the two fake images disappeared, leaving Riolu amazed that her attack had succeeded. The strike had hit so perfectly that it had sent the bigger pokemon flying through the air before it landed at its trainer's feet with a crashing skid. Riolu was then even more surprised when it didn't get up for round two and had been knocked unconscious.

Riolu looked at her own paws for a moment and then hugged herself as she gave a happy bark while jumping up and down with joy before Evin came over to her and gave her a pat on the head. The other trainer and Dawn congratulated Evin and Riolu on their first victory and the trainer gave Evin some winnings money and said, "That was a fantastic battle, though I thought for sure I would win when she didn't listen to you for the longest time. I'm glad I could help you two get along better though... Well back to the drawing board for team strategy for me. Good luck on your journeys, hope we meet again." And with that the trainer left back for town.

Dawn was bubbling over with excitement after such an inspiring battle and talked about the many battles she had witnessed and how only handfuls of them were really worthy of notice. Evin carried Riolu for a while after the fight, but soon his own fatigue began to catch up with him from his blood donation the day before. Seeing Evin's strain and the fact that she didn't like being overly pampered, Riolu gave Evin's hand a push to let him know that she wanted down.

Letting her down so she could walk on her own, Evin breathed a sigh of relief as his arms began getting some circulation back. Riolu was used to doing most everything on her own and wasn't about to let herself get lazy just because she had a trainer now and with him wanting to treat her like she was delicate she wanted a little space. She always liked pushing herself to the limits of her abilities on everything she did and was not about to start accepting an easy living now.

She and Evin played a bit while walking, but even then she still sensed a heavy weight on both his body and mind since he was often thinking about his parents. She could also feel that there was also an ever-growling stress that he was beginning to feel. It was somewhat like just a normal headache, but at the same time it wasn't like a headache, Riolu herself nor Evin could really figure it out, but Evin just chalked it up to just needing rest.

Slowly the hours passed as Evin toyed around with the pokedex for a while and when Dawn wasn't looking he put it on mute and used it on himself. The screen read out that his body was experiencing a large scale energy flux at the time. He really didn't know what this meant or why this was happening, but he did feel uneasy about what might happen next.

They dealt with a few more small battles with weak wild pokemon before the day was over and then started looking for a place to camp near water. After they made camp in a clearing that night, all the pokemon were let out to enjoy the night air as everyone sat down to relax. Supper was ready for everyone within the hour as Evin and Dawn had made biscuits and gravy for themselves and served prepared pokemon food to the others.

Each pokemon and person dined in pleasant silence as they enjoyed the night breeze; that was at least until the pokemon all finished their meals and started socializing. Once they had finished eating, the pokemon all began to mingle with each other as they got to know one another and being that they were the same type and size, Piplup before long even took a liking to Evin's Oshawott even though she didn't seem to share his attraction.

Riolu seemed to get along with everyone and was a ball of jubilation as she related her life's short story to the others about how and where she had been raised. Evin didn't really know what she was saying, or what kind of topic she had started with the other pokemon, but since they were having such a good time he wondered what he should talk about with Dawn.

He really didn't know what to say at this point, since he still viewed this new world with awe mixed with a little fear of the unknown as he had also seen it from a narrator's point of view, which included a large amount of already knowing Dawn's past. Dawn's cheery smile though helped keep him calm, but Evin still felt very uncomfortable, like he was in a stranger's house.

On one hand he had his current situation and the minor happenings of the day to talk about, but his thoughts were also still centered on how to get back home or how he could send a message to his parents. It had only been three or four days and he already felt home sick. He wanted to be with his dad for his reassuring encouragement and support and he wanted to see his mom and sister again so he could be sure they were okay. But most of all, he wanted to be back in his own home where he could feel safe and secure with his family.

His thoughts soon turned to Palkia for the kind of dimensional travel he would have to face, but then he also knew he would need one really well trained strong team just to find such a rare one-of-a-kind pokemon. At this point he was sure that Palkia had to be the answer to his dilemma, but was probably going to be the hardest to track down. He only wished he knew how or where he could contact it as soon as possible, but he knew this would all take a lot of time; time which he felt he didn't have.

So he set his sights on a plan, which was to first gather all the badges in this region as he built his team and might even consider taking the elite challenge before traveling to Dawn's home region, where he was sure Palkia resided. He knew all the basics he needed for this world along with its many secrets, so his plans were fairly clear, first build up and strengthen, then search. He wasn't sure how long all of this would take, but he had to try for his parent's sake no matter how long it took.

Later that night, while Evin lay sprawled out on top of his sleeping bag in his tent with Riolu and Oshawott sleeping to either side of him, Evin continued honing his plans and working on battle strategies in his head until it was almost midnight. While Evin was in his silent contemplation, Dawn slept soundly in her own tent next to his inside her sleeping bag with both Piplup and Snivy curled up next to her as they slept the night away oblivious to everything to come.

The rest of the night went by uneventfully as Evin finally found sleep, but just as the sun began to light up the morning sky, a lillipup wandered into camp and woke everyone when it got tangled in some of Dawn's tent lines. It took a moment for everyone realized that a wild pokemon had wandered into their campsite, but Dawn already had a head start as she made it out of her collapsing tent to see what was shaking things up.

What she found outside her tent was just too adorable to pass up. The lillipup was tangled on the lines of her tent in such an adorable way as it lay on the ground with an utterly helpless look on its face. It was still trying to unbind itself, but with its feet still tangled when it saw her, all it could do was struggle and whimper. Dawn made one of those high pitched girly squeals as she then grabbed Piplup from her tent to ready him for a fight if her first catch attempt didn't work.

Piplup was already a seasoned veteran, so they both knew he was more than a match for the younger wild pokemon. Throwing a pokeball the lillipup was trapped inside as it began shacking frantically. Then as Dawn had expected to possibly happen, the ball burst back open as the lillipup broke free and was now also free from the tent as well thanks to being absorbed by the pokeball. But before it could get away Piplup blasted the small pup with a powerful water gun that slammed it into a nearby tree. Shaking off the attack, the lillipup dashed in and tackled Piplup squarely on his forehead, where it almost knocked Piplup over.

The attack was not powerful, but had effectively off-balanced Piplup enough that he hadn't recovered before the lillipup latched on to his left wing with bite and held on. This was a bad move though and Piplup just angrily turned his head and blasted the small dog with an even stronger water gun with as much pressure as a fire hose. This final attack sent the lillipup sprawling on the ground too dizzy to get back up and by this time Dawn had grabbed another empty ball from her pack and was ready to take action.

Seeing her cute little puppy to be go down after Piplup's last water gun, Dawn swung her right arm with the force of a baseball pitcher. The ball hit with an audible thud and after absorbing the lillipup it began to wiggle. Dawn watched with anticipation and got herself the rest of the way out of her collapsed tent as she approached the shaking orb.

About this time Evin had finally gotten himself and the two other pokemon with him through the front entrance of his tent. He was a little late to see what all had happened, but as it turned out Dawn had already resolved the problem.

Just then the ball clicked to let her know that it had been caught and Dawn sent out a cheer as she and Piplup had just beat and caught the puppy without too much of a hassle, which she then named him Rags right on the spot. When she let him back out of his pokeball, she told him his new nickname and he seemed to be okay with it too, though he was still a little unhappy at being caught and more than a bit angry with Piplup.

Hearing her name her pokemon, Evin decided that he needed names for his. Calling the pokemon by their specie's names was okay and all, but he felt it wasn't expressive enough. He also just felt strange by calling them by their racial names since to him it was like calling some random white guy "hey white guy!", or a china man "Hey china!"; it just didn't feel right.

So he took his two girls aside and suggested Reva to Riolu. Riolu turned her head before she shook out a no. He then suggested Vicky. Once again she shook her head no. Stumped, Evin tried to think about her personality and a name that could define her as both playfully fun and serious. The name Rika came to him, but when he whispered it to himself not really meaning for Riolu to hear it, she immediately started jumped around with excitement. "You really want to be called Rika?" Evin asked.

Riolu nodded her head vigorously and continued to jump with unrestrained glee. "Okay, your name is then Rika. Don't forget it and for the love of god try to listen to me more when we go into battle."

Oshawott however was a bit harder to find a suitable name for, as Evin then started rambling off names like "Water Nymph, River, Spring, Mist, Springmyst," and the list went on. Eventually however he found the right one she was willing to accept and named her Aqua.

Names given and the morning activities squared away soon after, the group packed up camp and started down the road again. Along the way there were a few more trainers and more wild pokemon that held them up for a few minutes here and there, but they weren't in any kind of a rush since they were taking their time to gain valuable experience.

Rika was already at a competent level of battle expertise, but still had some issues with taking orders, which made working with her somewhat difficult since it was going to take a lot of work to develop a working relationship during matches. Aqua and Dawn's Snivy on the other hand, worked well with their trainers and with each other as both steadily became stronger.

Rika relish the challenges more than the others and was an awesome battle partner so long as she kept listening to orders, but because of her unpredictability she was not nearly as dependable.

The other pokemon displayed unwavering confidence in their trainers as Evin or Dawn called out battle strategies and attack orders, to which most of the time their trainer's judgments were correct. Though there were a few times other trainers had tricked them and they lost a couple matches along the way.

During all of this, Rika always wanted to push herself to get stronger, but often times felt like Evin was trying to keep her too safe and wasn't capable of calling out the harder decisions that placed her in harm's way. So whenever she had these bouts of doubt, her battles were always rough around the edges and only succeeded on occasion because of her over powering determination and strength.

It didn't take Evin very long recognize that she had developed a little bit of a pattern in her choosing to ignore his orders and could tell that Rika might need some quiet time between the turmoil to organize her turbulent hyper thoughts. He remembered back to the TV shows, of how Lucario often meditated to clear their minds and wasn't beyond knowing that he needed some quiet time of his own as well.

So he began thinking that meditation was exactly what they both needed at this point since she was still young and he needed to nip this in the tail before it got out of hand. Controlling her stormy rambunctious personality was now becoming his top priority and since he also had his own reasons for wanting some quiet time, he decided to jump right on it.

It was about four hours after noon the third day since their journey began when Evin called for Dawn to stop early to make camp before sunset. She was a little puzzled about stopping so early, but she also wasn't horribly concerned about getting to the next city very quickly either, since back when she had traveled with Ash he had gotten them very lost so often that it often took days and sometimes weeks longer to reach their destinations.

After camp was set up, Evin and Rika went elsewhere into a nearby outcropping of trees to meditate. Rika had trouble at first with trying to sit still and settle her mind, but soon got the hang of how it worked and copied Evin, who sat perfectly still as he worked to clear his head of thoughts and sound.

He had been feeling different since the day before, as his senses felt much too open and sharper than normal and thought about how the Professor told him his body was changing and he would possibly experience new things over time. He had no doubt that this was one of those things.

He felt like he was beginning to sense the feelings and moods of everything around him from much further away than he had ever before. When he had first come to this world, it was only by touch, but then while he had been on the road for a while it had changed to just being near others, but now it was becoming quite bothersome.

Now it was more like he could sense someone coming from half a football field distance away, and the closer they got the better he was able to read their mood and physical senses. It was starting to become a little too personal for comfort and what bothered him further was that he was also starting to hear voices. Little whispers at the edge of his thoughts that almost reminded him of a creepy ghost movie.

He guessed the whispers were the thoughts of both the pokemon and humans that were near him, as every now and then he caught random words from the canopy of indecipherable noise. But it was difficult to pinpoint where each whisper came from, as each and every one talked over the others until they had meshed together like in a large gatherings of people all conversing with each other at once and would not stop.

Remembering the few episodes and movies that dealt with this kind of power, he was almost sure that his being able to read feelings and moods was the power of aura. But he never remembered aura users ever being able to read minds, much less do so without concentration, but he did know they were able to communicate words using their aura.

His dilemma was too intense for him to comprehend as the mind numbing chatter continued, but still he wasn't sure if aura was the only power that could explain what he was experiencing. He could hear or perhaps even say he could feel the other various pokemon in the area around him; as if hearing them say, "I'm hungry." "I want that." or even "I hate humans!"

Evin caught the last line of thoughts just in time, because right at that moment his eyes shot open just in time to get knocked aside by a green horned sawsbuck. Hearing Evin yell as he got pretty much run-over, Rika shot from her sitting position and bashed the large deer pokemon away from him.

Evin was a little dazed, but was otherwise unhurt. Even so, Rika raged at the wild pokemon for attacking her trainer for no reason at all, but the Sawsbuck only decided to take aim at her as well as it then tried to run them both over with its sharp hooves in one pass. Evin managed to roll out of the way, but Rika held her ground and just as the charging buck got close she used a force palm uppercut right into the sawsbuck's chin.

The sawsbuck began bucking wildly as it went berserk for a moment, but couldn't stop Rika as she managed to scramble onto the top of its head and use karate chop between its' rack. The large buck roared with fury and pain as it tossed its head around crazily before finally starting to run away and just as it was leaving the clearing Rika was dislodged from her perch and flew through the air looking dazed.

Evin saw this and was already below her waiting to catch her as she fell right into his arms all shaken up and dizzy, while the sawsbuck in the meantime could be heard crashing through the forest away from them. Relief washed over Evin as he heard it getting further away since he didn't exactly have any other pokemon with him.

For a minute Rika's head bobbed back and forth as she regained her senses in his arms. Then once they could no longer hear crashing in the woods neither moved since both were still too stunned from what had just happened and were extremely wary of another attack. A few more minutes passed like this before they started to calm down, but it wasn't long before both decided that the calmness of meditation was officially over for the day.

Stress was still mounting on top of Evin's increasing headache as he entered camp with Rika at his side; his eyes and head throbbing in unison as it felt more like a migraine now. He closed his eyes after finding himself a seat next to the campfire to try and alive the pain, but with his mind still being able to sense everything all around him whether he wanted to or not, he couldn't find peace within himself.

He had a feeling that it was getting worse by the minute almost and that something wasn't right as he felt all the more aggravated because of it. He felt like there was supposed to be a way to control whether or not he sensed this stuff, but with no manual that simply said, "How to use telepathic powers of the mind." he felt hopelessly lost.

He couldn't even begin to fathom how someone could turn such an ability on and off at will since he had never taken that particular thought into mind before, but right now all he wished for was for it to stop. Rika was also picking up on Evin's distress again and in turn felt uncomfortable just being near him as she felt worried.

Once again however, her thoughts of worry were only yet another streamline of worried emotions and voices that grated against Evin's mind, and while he knew she only wanted to help him, he couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed. His gratitude towards her even with the added pressure and pain though just made him plain confused about how he himself really felt.

It was just after dark when Evin and Rika had sat down at the campfire, where Evin seemed to just close his eyes and hold his head. He could feel Dawn's temptation to ask what he had been doing for so long, but he made no move to address it as he continued to hold his head with both hands while Dawn poked around at the fire and cooked marshmallows.

Later on, Evin managed to fake a smile as he sat up and he and Dawn began talking for remainder of the evening about what their lives had been like; though Evin had to get a little creative a few times without letting on that he came from another world. He didn't figure it would be so hard to hide his secret at first, but then more than once he failed to grasp a few things of common knowledge in this world that made Dawn wonder how he wouldn't know about such things.

Evin also slipped a few times as he mentioned some things as if they were common knowledge that she had never heard of, which was that he had mentioned the mountain lion that had tried to eat him for breakfast. After that, Evin found that it was best just to say he was tired and wanted an early start the next day as he tried to end anymore chances of disaster popping out of his befuddled mind.

Late into the night Rika continued to worry about Evin as he tried to get some sleep. He had been tossing and turning for hours and every so often covered his ears in his vain attempt to shut out the noise of mental chatter that still plagued him. It had taken hours, but Rika was thankful when sleep or exhaustion had finally taken hold as he slowly began to relax and rest after such a long day. Her own nerves had been up in a bundle until now as well, but now that he was asleep, she too felt herself calming down. Bashing and pulling on the edges of Evin's blanket and sleeping bag, Rika cozied herself in and hummed a soft tune as she too fell asleep.

The next day was little comfort to Evin, as he had woken to all kinds of mental chatter. Morning was like being in a slowly filling conference room where no one knew when to stop talking, which put a quick damper on any chances for Evin to have a good day. It was odd, but even most of the wild pokemon seemed to be giving them a wide birth as their group had begun moving in the silent cover of fog. But even then there were still a few odd pokemon that were either just too dumb to give a hoot about attacking, or the other kind that just hated humans so bad that they went out of their way to attack people and any pokemon who served them.

After about four hours of walking with these very minor interruptions since getting up that morning, they finally reached Accumula Town, where they decided to take the rest of the day off to relax at the pokemon center, but before that they decided to treat themselves to some ice cream at a nearby stand. The local ice-cream shop had flavors Evin had never heard of, such as lava quill rumble and Geodude madness along with many other strange combinations. Though it was hard for him to decide, Evin eventually went with something that at least looked like his old favorite of rocky road with chocolate chunks in vanilla ice cream and got Rika one as well.

Dawn got the lava quill for herself and the ocean swirl for Piplup and after they had all paid the shop keeper they all sat at one of the tables all enjoying their favorite flavors. Evin's head had been pounding with the mental torrent of an entire city before this, but as he now found out from a brain-freeze, both the delightful taste and the freezing pain of the Vanilla ice-cream could quiet his mind. It was only a momentary respite however from the mental yammering all around him, but it seemed to give him at least five minutes of relief each time he did it and he much preferred the pain of a brain-freeze over the total meltdown of his mind's over activity.

With Ice-cream-cones still in their hands they strolled down to the pokemon center talking about times in the past when they had brain-freeze along with half a dozen other subjects of inconsequential banter. Upon their arrival the nurse greeted them as was the routine and all four pokemon checked out in perfect health while Evin and Dawn got two separate rooms since they still weren't very comfortable around each other yet. Dawn also felt that Evin might need some space anyway since he seemed to always be distracted with his really bad headaches he had been getting for the last couple days, which also gave her an idea.

"Evin, why don't you have the nurse give you a checkup as well since you seem to be having so many headaches? She might be able to give you something for them." The thought of prolonged relief was a very attractive idea, but he also wondered what the side effects of taking medicine of that sort could be.

He'd always been rather active and resistant to getting sick, but the one time that he had gotten a bad cold a long while back and used some medication to treat it had knocked him out sleepy for nearly two days running. So ever since then when it came to using meds to feel better he was always cautious of what might happen if he used such things.

His head helped him make the decision though when a throbbing pain made itself known in his forehead as a signal that his five minutes of Ice-cream induced brain-freeze relief were nearly up. He couldn't go another night without getting enough sleep, so he gave Dawn a nod and they agreed on a time they would meet in the lobby for dinner later on.

Leaving Evin so that he could have his own checkup, Dawn went to her room and began to unpack. She enjoyed pokemon center hospitality for a number of reasons, but chief among those reasons were the very spacious and luxurious bathrooms and showers with accommodations for pokemon of all types and sizes.

Drawing a bath and warming the shower, Dawn undressed and put the dirty clothes that she had been wearing and those that she had inside her pack into a washing machine that all pokemon center bathrooms had in the back left corner of the room. Calling out Piplup and her new Lillipup, Dawn took them both into the shower where she proceeded to wash them both.

Lillipup was by far the dirtiest of the three since he had been living in the wild only a short while back as streaks of dirt now washed out of his undercoat. Piplup laughed a bit, but Dawn only worked harder to get the puppy clean by using shampoo to suds him up. Rags let out an indignant whine as he was subjugated to her every cleaning method, which included having to let her wash his male sheath and testis.

Next was Piplup who was quite used to the routine and washed up quite easy since he was a water type. After that she washed herself before taking them to the nice warm tub of water to soak in the pleasant smelling rose oil bath water. All three gave a sigh of relaxation and even Rags decided that he could get used to this as he rested in Dawn's arms.

Meanwhile, Evin had done as Dawn had suggested and got checked out by the nurse as he told her about the headaches he'd been getting, though he did make sure to refrain from letting her know too much. As Dawn had said, the nurse gave him about four pills as she said, "I'm not allowed to be giving this sort of medication out in large amounts, so try to use these pills sparingly until you talk to your regular doctor."

(Fat chance of that) Evin thought, "Each pill will last about eight hours and should mostly or completely alleviate the pain, but it does often have the unwanted side effect of drowsiness, so be careful not to be riding bikes or driving anything." He agreed to what she said and took the first pill right then.

It wasn't an immediate acting drug, so with Rika and Aqua they made their way up to their designated room and went in. It had been a while since Evin last had a good shower or bath to wash the sweat and dust of the road off. So as he let Aqua explore her first pokemon center room he went to the bathroom to get ready for a nice long bath to soak away his worries and this time remembered to close the door behind him.

Evin was down to his boxers after filling the tub with hot water, about the time he heard some faint muffled knocking on the door. When he answered it, he found Rika and Aqua at the door with Rika about to knock again, but she pulled away when she saw the door open. Her fur had muffled her knocks, which explained why Evin thought they sounded someone knocking with towels, but now he asked, "What's up?"

Rika acted a little bashful at first, but Aqua showed him her dirty fur and made a few upset sounds at him as if she were accusing him of something. He sensed that she was obviously a little mad about something and it took a few more tries on Aqua's part to get the message clearly across as she even used a few dirty places on Rika's fur as a reference before Evin understood.

Realizing that this was going to be unavoidable anyway he invited them in as he opened the door more for them and apologized for not understanding. Aqua just let out a sigh as she began pushing a now very shy Rika into the room.

Rika still remembered the first time she saw Evin in the shower, which had also been the first time she had ever had a good look at a different species of male, but that aside, Aqua was not about to miss getting cleaned up and she was not about to let her friend get missed as well. Since she had never been a wild pokemon she knew quite well that trainers were supposed to help groom them, so she had been quite upset that Evin had shut the door on them.

Going to where he had dropped his clothes into the washer, he snatched up his pokedex from where he had set it to look up cleaning instructions for pokemon. He was surprised at how much information it had on that subject, of how to clean every kind of pokemon including his own, along with what shampoos each usually liked.

Aqua immediately went over to the tub and jumped over the side into the hot water, only to shoot out the other side real quickly yelling her name really loud as she tried to cool her fur after about scolding herself in the water. She danced around for a moment before looking at Evin and Rika with kill in her eyes as they had started chuckling a bit. Evin then said, "It's going to take a few minutes to cool, we can go rinse off in the shower first." Aqua huffed and walked over to the shower and waited for him to put the pokedex down to turn the water on.

Rika shyly joined her on the tiled shower floor as she held her tail in her paws. She was even more nervous than she ever remembered being, while knowing she was perfectly well covered because of her fur, so she wasn't entirely sure why felt like she did. Once Evin was done looking over instructions, he started the much harder task of working himself up to being able to join them; to be able remove his boxers without being utterly incapacitated with embarrassment over being naked around them.

Though Aqua's impatiens seemed to speed up this process, as he had yet to come to terms with what he was going to do he was suddenly shot in the face with a water gun. The sock of cold water and the small otter's angry expression finally made him get moving. Finally tossing his embarrassment aside, he took his last bit of clothing off and joined them as he began working the cold and hot water nobs in his search for that perfect warmth to wash off in.

It was up to temperature in almost no time before he let Rika and Aqua have the main spray of the shower. He had also let them in first so that he could keep stalling on his embarrassment that had returned in full. He just couldn't seem to get over feeling like they were no different than his little sister when it came to this sort of thing and he and his sister hadn't bathed together for many years already for those obvious reasons.

Rika seemed to like the shower just fine, but she was still a little shy about Evin standing naked waiting for them to be done and had a little trouble forcing herself not to stare at his lower segments. Other than her father's and others of her kind when her parents mingled with the main pack, males all had nice neat sheaths that held their dignity intact as nothing ever really showed. She had never seen an excited male's exposed groin before, but even then she though that Evin looked quite a bit more interesting than any of her own kind ever had.

Aqua on the other hand was enjoying herself as she let the water clean her fur and rejuvenate her water type body as she paid Evin no attention. She finished washing up and before long left the shower with Rika in tow. By this time Evin had wrestled most of his embarrassment down to a dull acknowledgement that they were really there with him and that he had to get over it and forced himself to take a big breath to relax. After taking a breath he felt much better and moved his hands from covering himself to washing off in the shower as he got ready to go soak in the tub for a while.

Evin finished his rinse in due time and after the shower was off, he walked over to the tub and felt the water. The water was still very warm by this time and Evin had to very carefully and slowly ease himself in, then after he was in all the way, he lifted Aqua over the side to slowly put her in. She fidgeted as she felt the almost too warm water soak into her fur, but soon sighed with relief as she adjusted to the high temp water. Next Evin helped Rika in, who also fidgeted as she got used to the water and before long they all let out sighs of contentment as they let the warm water soaked away their aches and pains of the road that had accumulated over the last few days.

Rika sat in the water up to her chin just in front of Evin as she every now and then submerged a little to blow a few bubbles in the water while Evin was leaned back against the back of the tub almost asleep from both the heat and pill he had taken. Aqua floated belly up in the water contently stretched out while she breathed sighs of relaxation and stayed this way for about an hour as the water began to slowly lose its warmth.

Rika could feel how her fur was all ruffled out around her under water and as she fidgeted now and then she found it to be quite funny compared to how it usually was. Normally her fur was short and down pressed looking neat and pristine, but inside the bath it was floating around and sticking out like a frightened cat that gave her a somewhat fluffed look.

The water felt great and relaxing as it had soaked beyond her near waterproof undercoat, but it was the sense of relief that the others felt that really made her feel warm and relaxed inside. A couple hours eventually passed since they entered the bath before she noticed Evin had fallen asleep and then felt curiosity prick her mind as she looked over her shoulder sleeping behind her. His head was lulled to the side and his hands rested just below her thighs before she then looked down and saw her tail right above his male part underwater that now became the center of her curiosity. She noticed though that his maleness also looked different than before, somehow it was bigger than when he had gotten in and had a much different look about it.

Curious, she moved a little closer to him till she felt the tip of her tail touching his soft male flash. The thought she had of knowingly doing this made her tingle all over as she turned her body a little to curiously poke the pliable flesh again. She found that in the water that it was real soft and squishy under the tip of her paw and in a small way she wondered what it was really for.

She immediately felt embarrassed for doing what she just did though as her body felt a little warmer and felt like her heart just fluttered a little, but before she had any more time to think about what she was doing, Evin began to stir again. Slowly his eyes opened when he felt her fur against his thighs, but it took him a moment longer to realize the other feeling of where Rika now sat.

He didn't remember her being this close to him before, but then he told himself once again that it shouldn't matter as he once again made himself calmed back down. That was at least until her tail swished over his extended member, where he felt it tickle him in a very pleasurable way. The feeling was delightful, but he had to restrain himself along with the shiver that wanted to crawl up his side.

It was too much for him to simply ignore he decided as he then piked Rika up from below her arms before she could protest. Rika blushed from the feeling of his hand on her sides, but Evin couldn't see this because of her blue fur, so after moving her forward a little, Evin began giving her a neck and shoulder rub so that he didn't give her the wrong message.

Feeling his hands rub her stiff muscles in such ways made her melt into his touch as though she were putty in his hands. She let him work her body like soft clay ready to be molded into shape while he pressed on all the right places and worked the deep-seated kinks and aches out of her neck. But unlike the last time he massaged her, he moved on from her neck and shoulders to her arms and from there her back, spending about five minutes in each place as he made sure each muscle stretched properly. In small intervals Rika sighed and groaned with relief and also huffed when small bits of pain wrinkled her face as her muscles were stretched and loosened in such delightful ways she had never known possible.

Evin had given his mother many massages in the past, but nothing quite this extensive as he gave Rika the full work-over that also made him feel more relaxed as he dreamed of being back home. Though unlike with his mother he felt soft wet fur beneath his un-calloused hands and felt her small tight muscular frame move to his touch. As he was working on her back, Aqua looked over and began busting up laughing at the sight of Rika drooling with her head lulled to the side and her eyes half closed with her mouth hanging open while she enjoyed the attention she was getting.

This brought the massage to an abrupt end though as Evin was snapped out of his little daydream and wondered what was going on. Rika was greatly perturbed and angry with Aqua for ruining the great feeling of relaxation she had been having and began growling at her. Evin felt her pick her paws up a little as he felt this flare of anger through the strange link between them and as one of her paws came up from the water balled into a fist he quickly grabbed it and she looked at him with a hurt look as he shook his head.

To make her relax again though, he began gently rubbing the paw in his hand with his thumb until it uncurled. He felt her paw pad and was amazed at how soft it was as he continued circular motions on it and eventually wrapped her other paw with his other hand and did the same thing. It felt good and ticklish to her at the same time, as no one had ever done this to her paw pads before which at the moment felt rather sensitive.

Once again she was beginning to relax, but because of Aqua's constant giggling in the background, she had a hard time letting her anger fade even though her body trembled with delight. The bath stretched on for the better part of an hour more before Evin finally reached over the side of the tub for the shampoo and set Rika on the side of the tub as he lathered her up, who at first didn't like it because it stung her tongue and eyes.

But after Evin told her not to lick it and to make sure she kept her eyes closed, it wasn't so bad. She began to enjoy how it foamed so nicely in her fur till it bubbled on her skin beneath, which also made her feel slightly tingly all over before Evin being helping her wash it out. He used a water cup to rinse her fur with the bath water over and over, being careful not to get the water inside her ears, and he repeatedly did this till she was as soap free as possible.

She loved the attention she was getting and as she felt his fingers brush through her fur, which made her shiver a few times as he washed her paw pads on both arms and legs, she wondered if every time could be like this. Her paw pads were the softest most sensitive places she had because of the way her kind stood and fought. But with Evin now rubbing them so nicely with his wonderful human hands, she felt like she was in pokemon heaven as she squirmed now and then from the ticklish sensations.

Once Evin was done with her, he set her outside the tub and started on Aqua, who seemed to enjoy it just fine as well, but not nearly as much as Rika had, and before long she too was set out of the water. Evin then did himself and after draining the tub, they all rinsed off in the shower one last time. Then Evin took the time to dry each one with a towel and made sure to press firmly on their wet fur so that all the water would come out.

Both Rika's and Aqua's fur was a bit fluffed and unruly looking after Evin was done toweling them dry, so he then grabbed a brush that was in one of the drawers at the dressing station provided for just that purpose and began brushing their fur to perfection. Rika was glad her fur hid how bad she was blushing as Evin brushed her, but then it was over as he moved on to Aqua.

Rika felt somewhat jealous that Aqua was receiving the same kind of attention of being brushed that she had gotten. She wanted him to keep grooming her and in general focus his attention on only her. Quickly shaking her head and evacuating her nose like most dogs do when they've come across a weird smell, Rika shook away her flare of jealousy in favor of trying to inconspicuously sneak a peek at Evin's nude body in an attempt to quell her annoying curiosity of his lower male extremities.

Evin took no notice as he finished brushing Aqua and once he was done he went over to the washer and put his clothes in the dryer before saying, "I need to get an extra set of cloths so I can wear something different every now and then. Also having something that doesn't look so stained and dirty would be a plus for public appearance." Aqua and Rika just nodded to his statements.

Having already decided that it didn't matter if his pokemon saw him nude or not, he returned to the bedroom with the pokenav and pokedex in hand to explore their functions while he lay on the bed waiting for the dryer to signal that it was done. He explored the functions of the devices for a good long while, while Aqua and Rika fully explored their small living quarters for the night.

Evin still felt rather odd for being completely nude in their presence but also found it rather relieving that he could be this exposed around them without fear of peanut gallery comments behind his back or being made fun of. Before long he heard the buzzer go off for the dryer and got up to put his cloths on since it was almost time to meet Dawn downstairs.

It was rather depressing how beat up and worn out his original clothes had become in such a short amount of time as there were even a few holes in his pants and shirt and even bigger holes in his socks. His shoes were in likewise bad condition, but were overall still okay for business as he began by putting his underwear on. Rika in this time had been finding it hard to keep her eyes off him before he was dressed, but after he was covered up again she felt that she liked him much better without his cloths on. His male dangle bits and even his hairless body seemed to have a certain attractiveness that she found to be quite desirable, though in what way she still wasn't sure.

Leaving his backpack where it was and not bothering to put Aqua in her ball, they all three started on their way down stairs. Rika had to keep averting her gaze however, for as they walked every time she looked at him she imagined him without cloths on and immediately felt her temperature rise as she blushed. She liked seeing him naked and for reasons she didn't know she wanted to see him like that more often.

It was such an odd feeling for her since she had never harbored such desires before. She tried to get her mind to focus on other things, but every time she quit thinking about not trying to think about him pictures of his naked body flashed before her eyes, which started making her feel flustered.

Upon arriving down stairs where they met up with Dawn, Evin suggested going shopping after they were done eating, so he could get some new cloths and restock on a little bit of food in his pack. Dawn was all for the idea and was more than happy to say that she'd been looking forward to taking a peak at some of the shops around town. Once done with their pokemon center dining experience as loads of other trainers had poured in, they all thanked the nurse for the delicious meals and let her know where they were going before coming back later, then made for the sliding doors.

They left the pokemon center and wandered around the city a little as they took in a few of the sights before heading over to the pokemart. In the section for teen-age clothing, Dawn suggested many different things she thought were in style. Her choices weren't anything he really considered to be great since nothing in that particular store seemed to be to Evin's real desire.

As far as pants went he liked the cargo pants that he found to be very tactical as they seemed to fit his style pretty well since that was also what his father always wore. But all the trainer's cloths were mostly blue jeans, that while being sturdy and affordable, weren't very elegant or covenant or even comfortable for that matter.

But eventually Evin gave in on account that he had to have something and got a nice fitting pair of jeans along with a black and yellow shirt and got a couple packs of socks and underwear boxers on the side. He would have preferred a shirt with neat designs, but in a regular pokemart they didn't have any of that sort of style. So he knew he would have to wait until he found a real clothing store before he could get anything more to his liking.

His shoes were of the hiker's sort that he had gotten in his world about two months back, so there was no need to be replacing them anytime soon. Having gotten all that he needed to look presentable again, he and Dawn also picked up the other supplies they needed before leaving the mart and heading back to the center.

Upon arriving at the pokemon center though, as they entered the lobby they found seven big much older guys arguing with the nurse about something that Evin and Dawn had missed. But then Evin noticed that one also had Nurse Joy by the arm and it was obvious that they were being unreasonable about a lot of things as they argued, along with being very rude.

Being that Evin couldn't walk away with a clear conscious and had to stick his nose where it didn't belong; he handed the supplies he had to Dawn and asked her to hold them for a moment. He then walked over to the group and hollered, "What's going on here!? Why are you all yelling at her like that?"

One of the younger guys, who looked like he was in twenties, turned to him and snapped, "Butt out kid, this doesn't concern you." And swung his arm backwards at Evin in a very rude and violent act of dismissal, of which Evin bent to the side and dodged as he became more than a little angry now. A few more of the guys looked over their shoulders when Evin tried to ignore them and ask the nurse directly what was going on.

When Evin got his question to her she told him over the many other voices that were trying to drown her out that they were harassing her and were keeping her from calling the police. Just then two more guys took full swings at Evin telling him to beat it, which this time while he dodged one fist the other slammed his left shoulder and he did a half spin from the momentum.

Just as he began to spin however he used the momentum to kick with his right leg and kicked the right knee out from under the guy who hit him. The guy howled with outrage as his leg buckled from the hit to the joint and as he went down to the ground the other six guys joined in.

There was seven of them in total and Evin manipulated the weight of three of them to make them fall on their faces, but even then the other three didn't fall for his manipulation and crowed around him. Rika hadn't been following the situation entirely, but when she saw that Evin was under attack she jumped forward to join the fray as she started force palming and karate chopping the guys that were about to land on Evin like a football team.

Aqua stood guard by Dawn and Piplup as the brawl started and was ready to water gun any of the men that got too close. Nurse joy in these moments was finally free to get to the police hotline to get out a call for help before someone got hurt and quickly began to explain what the situation was.

The older guys hit much harder than what Evin could really take a lot of, so using his small build to his advantage he moved like a frightened jackrabbit to avoid being clobbered several times as the men became more aggravated and enraged. Evin still took a few lucky punches, but at the same time he was doing a good job at wearing the men down and even tricked a couple into hitting their buddies.

But even with them taking hits from each other and being tripped, this only served in making the larger men furious and Evin was bit by bit being forced to get more creative as he tried to hit them in their joints. But since he still lacked the power to do enough damage they didn't go down and laughed at his attempts.

Frustrated because there were so many of them trying to gang up on him and they were swinging at him from all sides, Evin tried to reduce their numbers anyway he could and just before the police arrived he put all of his thought and anger into one last final hit to the biggest guy's shoulder just as the others had grabbed hold of him.

He didn't expect his last punch to really phase the large man one bit, but like at a carnival taking the strong man contest with a large mallet he put everything he had into that single blow. But when the punch connected it sent the guy flying four feet before the large man landed sprawled out on the floor with a crash where he slid another two feet before his head thunked against the wall.

The shock of seeing the man fly caused Evin to freeze for a spit second too long as right that moment two fists connected with his right side so hard that it sent him skidding across the smooth floor in the other direction of the guy he had nailed. Then just before the six men could converge on him again Officer Jenny and a line of her policemen burst into the center. The men that were getting ready to beat the tar out of Evin froze when this happened and then began to scramble in an attempt to flee.

Without further words the police rushed in and arrested the six trying to run, while the other still lay stunned on the floor. Nurse Joy came from around the counter and helped Rika pick Evin back up to his feet and had Audino use heal pulse on him as his side flared with pain, then had him lift his shirt so she could inspect his side.

Evin was a bit beat up after the fight and felt a little rough around the edges with a ton of new aches and pains to deal with, but when the nurse was done looking him over for anything serious, she only had to patch his face up a bit, before saying, "You were lucky that they didn't break any of your ribs when they hit you like that. The heal pulse healed most of it, but you will still have some minor bruises for a while. I'm glad you helped me though; thank you for your courageous assistance in standing up to them. But that was also really reckless. You or your pokemon could have been seriously injured."

As he put his shirt back on, Evin then asked, "Why were they doing that?" Nurse Joy just sighed before Officer Jenny came over and answered the question for her and said, "They come in here every so often and hound her to go out with them to go have a good time. They've only gotten violent like this a few times before, but they always left before we arrived. Their sexual harassment well know in the area, but will be come nothing more than old news now that we have them in custody caught in the act. After this incident, all they will be seeing for a long while are the bars of my jail or if they try and get sweet with me the flamethrower of my Arcanine."

Evin was glad they were getting their just rewards after causing so much trouble and said, "Well I'm glad I was able to help you stop them. But I think I need to go get some rest now." Officer Jenny then said before he could even take more than two steps in a stern tone, "Hold it right there young man, I'm not done talking to you yet. What you did was reckless for both you and your pokemon; you need to know what fights you can take on without ending up seriously injured and that goes for your pokemon too. If any of them had a knife on them you could have gotten one of your pokemon or even yourself or someone else seriously injured or killed." Jenny went on scolding him for his foolish recklessness and all Evin wanted to do right then was go back to his room and nurse his throbbing side for a while before bed, but no, he had to deal with getting yelled at.

Nurse Joy finally intervened in the middle of Jenny's ranting and told the officer to lay off already and that she had already made her point. It just occurred to Evin that both the Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy of this city were actually really young, only a few years older than he was and while the nurse was shy and timid, Jenny was rash and pushy. Jenny stopped her tangent as the last of the men were escorted out and told Nurse Joy to keep her eyes open for any suspicious looking people and to get that damn phone moved to the front desk so people couldn't keep her from it again.

Joy and Jenny hugged each other and said goodbye before Jenny left and as the door closed, Nurse Joy sighed again and said to Evin and Dawn, "Sorry for that, she's always been like that since we were little kids. She is very protective of me, but she does quite often go over the top on things. Sorry you had to endure that."

Evin accepted the apology graciously and Dawn said, "But it's so nice to have a childhood friend who cares so much for you, sure she's a bit pushy, but what really matters is the friendship you both share." Nurse Joy nodded to this and shortly after bid them a good night as she began to clean things up alongside Audino while Evin and Dawn returned to their rooms for the night.

In his room Evin took his shirt off again and felt his sore ribs and wondered how long this would take to get over. He had had bruised ribs once before after falling out of a tree as a kid and it had taken only two weeks for the marks to go away, but as for the pain from the bruises, it had taken almost two months to get over that.

He jumped twice as he touched exceptionally tender sore spots and felt the expected painful twinge in his side. Rika hadn't been hit in all of the fighting because she was so short and also because the men had barely noticed her in all the brawling as they had been focused on beating the crap out of Evin.

She sat next to Evin as he searched for what hurt and growled as she hoped that the color of black and blue matched the term when they got a good look at their legs later. Now that everything was over and done with, Aqua settled down in one of the comfy chairs and watched as Rika continued to watch Evin find new sore places with mild interest.

Evin then remarked, "Did you see how hard I hit that guy at the end of all of that? Something wasn't right when that happened, because by all rights I know I'm not that strong. That last punch should have only been like a tap to him. Rika, do you know what happened?" Rika just looked at him and shrugged as she barked and was just as confused as he was at this point.

Evin thought about it for a moment longer and said, "I bet it has something to do with this strange power inside me and the headaches I've been getting." Rika only shrugged again, but this was the only thing that made sense to Evin, as he began to wonder how he could do that again.

He set his pondering of this aside for the night though and readied the bed to sleep in as he stripped to his boxers. It had been a long while since he last had a real good night's sleep and for the first time since arriving in the pokemon world, he slept very soundly on a comfortable bed, uncaring of the drool moistening his toes throughout the night.

In the morning, Evin awoke to the dull roar of a headache and took one of the pills Joy had given him yesterday. Then he got up to take a rinse in the shower and was accompanied by Aqua and Rika, to which Rika still had a hard time ignoring his nude presence without feeling hot and flustered as he let them shower with him. It was only after the shower was over that, Evin felt his side and found that it didn't hurt anymore and even the cuts on his face were gone, along with the bruises.

He wondered if that could have been part of the effects the heal pulse had on him, or if it was possibly the healing effects the Professor spoke of. But once again there was no sure way to tell and once he was done checking himself for any possible remaining bruises and found none, he dressed and packed everything up before they joined Dawn and Piplup down stairs.

After a nice big breakfast for everyone in thanks of last night's heroism; Rika, Aqua, Rags and Snivy were all looking fit and ready for action. They all now had sufficient experience from many battles and were ready for some real challenges as they now set forth from Accumula Town to head to Striaton City.

Rika was in a particularly playful mood today, as she every so often poked Evin with her paws and ran around. Being that he had nothing better to do he joined in the playful fun sometimes as he poked her back and even sometimes grabbed her tail as he played with her while they continued down the road. Getting to know her personality to a greater extent by playing with her seemed to lighten the mood of things since he was also having a hard time feeling awake because of the medicine.

They walked for most of the day without anything more than two battles with different trainers and a few times stopped for snacks as the day went on. Evin soon began wondering where in the hell he could ever get a bike at this point; because as of that moment he was all too aware of time slipping through his fingers from wanting to do everything all at once to get to Palkia as soon as possible.

Being that his primary mission was to get to it so he could ask it if there was any way for him to let his parents know he was ok or even to possibly still go back home. But the truth of it was that he already knew these things wouldn't just happen overnight and none of it was going to be easy.

It wasn't long before they found a stream to stop by for some water to drink and had decided to take a small break there before moving on. But right when Evin got near the water a buizel shot out and water gunned him in the face as it effectively stated that this was his territory as it tried to make them leave with more shots of water.

Evin was already frustrated with the passing of time and wasn't about to take that off of some shrimp on a backwater stream that he knew he could beat himself. So he dropped his pack and dove right in and before Dawn knew what he was doing the Buizel flew clean out of the water with a surprised "Buii!" before Evin then had Rika force palm it as he threw a pokeball at the dazed water weasel.

The ball wiggled a few times before it clicked and as Evin got out of the water soaking wet and picked up the ball and said to it, "Just for that I'm naming you Spazz." Dawn and all the other pokemon laughed at the same time and Evin let the buizel out of the ball. He wasn't upset being named Spazz, but held on to his rear where Evin had kicked him from the water and muttered to himself as he sat with his back to everyone while he nursed his broken pokemon pride.

He was absolutely embarrassed that he just got his ass kicked out of his own territory and caught by a human that didn't even use a pokemon to do most of the fighting and felt ashamed. Almost an hour passed before Evin picked up on this before he called for Spazz to come over. Spazz was slow to react to the invitation, but after a few moments he slinked over to Evin's side.

Taking him aside for a sec, Evin said, "Don't worry that you got beat by a human, I'm not normal anyway and the others know it. So relax, you haven't lost anything and try having some fun with us, you'll get used to everyone if you give them a chance." Spazz was shocked that he knew what he had been thinking of and could only wonder at what his new trainer was really like to able to say he was different from others.

After that Spazz finally began to mingle with the others a bit and just like piplup, he took a liking to Aqua. Aqua however didn't pay either male much attention and preferred to talk with Rika who jubilantly talked with everyone. After that the break ended up turning into a full camping spot for the night, on account that Evin had been completely soaked earlier.

From there they spent most of the night watching their pokemon talk and mingle, but after a while the two water type males began making passes at Aqua. Who without fail always gave them rejection and disappointment, leaving either male to walk away dispirited or broken on the spot.

The two males Spazz and Piplup were as rivals in this battle of passion, as neither were willing to give up as each almost systematically took turns trying to woo Aqua's heart to his favor. Dawn and Evin both laughed and giggled every time they saw one or the other get shot down by Aqua every so often, which to them was amusing to no end.

Dawn was also festinated at how attracted the two males were to Aqua, as she had never known Piplup to be so persistent before now. Sex wasn't really in either of the teenager's vocabulary yet, as neither had yet really dealt with the desire of wanting a boyfriend or girlfriend and had never put much thought into the subject.

The only thing Evin knew about it was what he had learned from a very useless boring sex-ed class he had to take when he was thirteen, that didn't really explain very much other than that there was a purpose for there being two sexes and a small amount of how it was supposed to fit together. Beyond that he didn't see what the big deal was.

Dawn on the other hand had a little more education on the subject in the form of that she had traveled with the Brock some years back who aspired to be a great pokemon breeder. Though Dawn did however love to talk about love and admired epic romance as she was so into watching either Spazz or Piplup get shot down by Aqua and even began telling old pokemon love stories each time Aqua shattered a hopeful heart.

Eventually everyone grew tired as they one by one shuffled off to bed until the only sounds that could be heard in the area a while after that was the gentle sounds of the stream and a soft splashing of a pokemon swimming. Spazz was saying his last farewell to his home and swam around before relaxing on the shore, where he lay on his back looking up at the full moon wondering what kind of adventures were going to be in store for him.

When Aqua heard the slashing nearby from where she had been sleeping in Evin's tent, she went to the stream to investigate the noise and found Spazz on the shore saying goodbye to his home as he was looking up at the moon. She felt a little sorry for him and wanted to comfort him, but after being wooed for so many hours she couldn't help but admired his sleek body before she had an idea.

Going down to the stream for a swim, she got Spazz's attention as she slunk into the water making sure he was watching from his place on the shore. Spazz loved every curve her body presented to him as she submerged into the water and he loved the soft sounds of enjoyment she made as she swam, causing him to feel hot as his heart began to race while his sheath began to bulge.

Then to everyone's astonished puzzlement, after leaving the tent with glee, Spazz happily caught some fish for everyone to eat that morning. It was such a bazar change from what he had been acting like the day before that Evin and Dawn noticed when he sat next to Aqua that she didn't seem to shy away or disregard him like she had last night, but seemed to accept him now.

Piplup's mouth about hit the ground upon seeing Spazz sitting next to Aqua, to which end he had a fit before pushing Spazz out of the group and challenging him. Spazz readily accepted and Evin looked at Dawn and said, "Well it was bound to happen after what we saw last night I guess. Want to battle?"

Dawn just agreed and they both got up and took their places; Evin on one side and Dawn on the other. Evin knew Dawn and Piplup were experts, but he knew from watching the shows how to come up with strategies. The shows alone had also granted him experience beyond what Dawn could comprehend and Evin knew that any water attacks Piplup used could be used against him if done right.

The battle started off with Evin telling Spazz to use defense curl and Dawn went with whirlpool. Seeing the mistake of her using this attack Evin called for Spazz to dive into it and use its momentum to shoot out the other side with an aqua jet. Spazz did as commanded and the ploy worked very well, but like all water attacks on other water types, it didn't do much damage, so he called for Spazz to use bite right after and Spazz latched onto Piplup's wing, which made the little penguin cry out in some pain from the small sharp teeth piercing his flesh.

Aqua watched from the sidelines with concern while the weasel and penguin had it out, as she too knew just how much more experience Piplup had. It was a water type showdown with Spazz on the inexperienced side as he had to rely on Evin's quick judgment and knowledge to do any damage whatsoever.

They fought back and forth for nearly fifteen minutes, with Dawn trying to get creative with her coordinator skills and Evin countering her every play. But one thing Dawn began to notice was that every time she had Piplup use a water attack, Evin would have Spazz use it against them.

She had to admit that Evin's trainer expertise seemed to be on a different level than her own, but she wasn't at all put out about it as she still managed to get Piplup to work into Evin's armor of moves and prolong the fight for a really long time. This went on until both pokemon were ready to drop from exhaustion, in a contest Spazz wouldn't have won, but in this battle, due to the difference in trainer experience and in pokemon experience, Evin had evened Spazz's chances from a for sure loss, to a draw.

Once it was officially decided as a draw, Dawn was ecstatic as to how Evin had such ability to command during a battle and asked how he learned to do those things. Not knowing what to say, he decided to keep it simple and just said, "It's just the way I think and perceive things is all." His replay was not what she wanted and she huffed at him and stuck her tongue out before brightening up again and said, "That's ok, you can help us train though; I had no idea you were so good at these things and I'm still amazed that you managed to do that with a freshly caught pokemon." Evin then chuckled and said, "He was just very determined to win, so he gave it his all." Dawn laughed and agreed to that.

Spazz was so worn out after the battle that all he could do was lay on the ground afterwards and let his trembling body rest as his breathing slowed down and Piplup wasn't in much better shape. But to Piplup's extreme disappointment, he saw Aqua go to Spazz and cuddle with him and then rest his head on her small stubby legs.

Dawn then said, "Well those two seem to be getting along very well now." Evin agreed to that, and wondered just how far they would go with it. Dawn ended up having to return her crying Piplup to his pokeball and after camp was packed again all the other pokemon except Rika were called back to their balls as the journey continued.

The next two days went by rather uneventfully as the miles stretched on, and over the course of those two days Evin explained the gaps that he always saw in Piplup's water attacks against another water type and so on. Over those two days, Evin had used up the last of the medicine Nurse Joy had given him and as he had expected from not having anything to keep it at bay, the voices in his head returned along with them causing the never ending headache to plague his life.

Clearing his mind with meditation seemed to be about the only half-baked remedy he could come up with while they were on the road, and while it did help him find some peace, the voices always returned a small while after he was done trying to clear his mind. He was sure now that the reason behind him being able to hear things in such detail was because it was a psychic ability. He didn't know why, but it seemed that he had both aura and psychic powers; as aura sensed life energy and feelings, while his telepathy was latching onto the thoughts of other's minds and feeding their mental monolog strait into his head.

But due to his powers gaining strength and range, it was becoming increasingly more overwhelming for him to process so much information at once. Having more sensations, ideas, talking, and frustrations than he could ever decipher overwhelming his own thoughts had become a nightmare of the worst sort.

The thoughts and feelings of everything around him always seemed to be pounding down the doors of his mind and over the span of the third day after running out of medication he was ready to snap. Rika knew of his dilemma, but was powerless to help him as she watched him suffer one day to the next.

Dawn however still didn't know why he kept having to stop for meditation so frequently and had even followed him once only to find out how utterly boring it was and would promptly leave. Making camp during this time was always the time that Spazz always looked forward to and always hurried to get things done so he and Aqua could disappear for a while.

Piplup was in the dumps over his failed advance for a mate and those feeling only grew each time he saw Spazz and Aqua together having a good time. Form looking at the map, Evin and Dawn decided they would reach Striaton City the next day around noon and Evin was both excited and ready to get his first badge, but also felt sick at the thought of walking into an entire city of people with his mind already under so much stress as it was.

But he was eager to begin his quest in earnest, and that mission gave him the courage to continue were most would not. That night he told everyone to get plenty of sleep, because he was going to wake every one bright and early for a bit of training and then they would be heading to the city soon after.

Morning came too early for Dawn as Evin woke everyone at five Am, and she looked like something the cat dragged in when she left her tent and stated it was too early for this. Piplup was still in the dumps, but Evin cheered him up by saying they were going to have a rematch. After hearing this, Piplup was ready to go; he knew his chances for getting Aqua for a mate were gone, but now he wanted revenge and was ready to get started and even made Dawn get a move on.

They were going to do a quick three-way battle with all three pokemon at once to get the morning started in style. Dawn wasn't enthused about it, but Piplup insisted that she do it and it did make her feel better to see Piplup back to his old self, if not a bit overeager.

All of Evin's pokemon vs. all of Dawn's and Dawn had the best advantage with Snivy and her experienced Piplup. The battle royal went into action with a boom as Evin had Rika attack Snivy with force palm and had the others work together against the other two. It was a massive display of technique and skill as the fight went on for a long while before Evin emerged victorious.

Dawn was still elated though because Snivy had evolved in the fray and put up a fantastic fight against Rika at the end and the two pokemon were on almost equal terms after Snivy's evolution, but Evin's quick wit had still brought Rika out on top. This had all happened whilst Spazz and Aqua seemed to work in almost perfect harmony, as each move one used was complemented by the other as Piplup and Rags found themselves swept away in the tide of battle. Though unlike last time, Piplup took his loss like a champ and just rested in Dawn's arms afterwards.

With the battle over, they packed camp and set off down the road and before too many hours went by, they saw the City. Like the first city Evin had seen, this one was big and once again the pokemon center was a good distance away. Walking with Rika and Dawn at his side, they made their way to the pokemon center.

But the moment they entered the city Evin stumbled and found himself being overwhelmed by the intensity of so many minds touching his at once. This mesh of noise in his head formed an excruciating headache that drowned out every thought of his own and through this noise he could hear indiscriminant whispers of people's minds from all sides.

His head was swimming in pain right then, but he forced himself to bear with it for now as heforced himself to keep walking. No one could even fathom what he was going through at the moment and Evin was only glad that Dawn still had not noticed how red his face had become. The strain of everyone's everyday lives put so much stress on him that it was like a mountain slowly crushing his very existence.

Feelings of pain, love, desires, want, need, disappointment, dreams, fear, secrets, and hopes, along with indiscriminate thoughts of over a thousand people now beat down on his mind like a jackhammer. It took every last ounce of will power Evin had just to keep from screaming out in agony just then as his body went cold and numb, before he then began shaking all over as he walked.

Dawn took notice and asked if he was okay, but Evin simply shook himself and said, "I'm fine, just had a sudden spell of dizziness was all." and while he didn't lie, dizziness was the least of his worries as his mind continued to be hammered in waves, or when an uncommon amount of emotion swept the majority of the multitudes of people he was now linked to.

Dawn gave him a funny look for a moment, but didn't press it, thinking it was kind of common for some people to get a little dizzy when they came to new places. Rika on the other hand could still feel how Evin felt and was on the verge of panic, but Evin pat her head and said "Let's go." and began walking again. After a brief checkup at the pokemon center, they went over to the gym where Evin was sure he would meet Chili, Cress, and possibly Cilan.

His head still pounded tremendously, but he believed that if he could get out of the city as soon as possible, things would be somewhat okay to deal with without so many minds over running his own. The gym building was very large and elaborately decorated and had engraved plates of the Unova league's certification that stated that all who compete in the gym challenge at this building may receive one of the eight badges needed to compete for the region's title of champion. Evin wasn't sure if he would compete to be the champion or not, but did intend to collect the eight badges so that he had proof of his determination in hand.

Once inside the gym, they went through the usual gym challenge tests and at the end they stood before the three gym leaders, who looked more elegant than Evin could have predicted and as he had expected all three were dressed like waiters. Evin asked them their rules and not too much to his surprise it would be a three on three battle, because of the heightened danger of traveling further beyond this city.

It was also a way to filter out anyone not ready to battle for real and by real they meant life and death. The match was to have normal rules for the wins and loss ratio. First Chili went and put out his Pansear, which Evin in turn called Spazz and the water weasel looked expectantly at his pry.

The fight kicked off with a fire blast that Evin quickly had Spazz dodge, but just then Evin had to rethink his strategy since his opponent's pokemon were not at normal beginner level. Using every advantage he could, he had Spazz play a game of chicken, were he had Spass rush strait at his opponent before jerking off to the side to avoid a counter attack.

The strategy worked a few times, and his opponent took a lot of damage from Spazz's water jet attacks. Having exhausted the tactics he could muster with water jet, he swiched to bubble smoke screens and water gunning from behind the bubble formations.

The strategies worked, but had also enraged the fire monkey to the point that it started blasting anything that moved. Spazz was caught by a few glancing blows, but in the last moment of battle he scored a critical hit of a water gun strait down the ape's open mouth.

Pansear coughed and sputtered as it choked, but then finally went down. Though it wasn't a surprise that Spazz won the battle, it was still an intense fight and afterwards Evin let Spazz go sit in the bleachers with Dawn so he could watch the remaining matches while Evin readied for the next fight.

Next was Cress, who called Panpour, luckily as Evin had hoped, Panpour was male and he called Aqua out, who got a devilish grin on her face as she checked out the water monkey. The battle started and Evin had Aqua begin the fight with the move attract, but as a side effect, the move also effected Spazz who was sitting on the sidelines.

Being that Spazz and Aqua had become mates, the move affected him even worst than the monkey as he jumped back into the field and looked like a total fool alongside Cress's Panpour as they followed her around with her slapping the monkey around with razor shell and crooning softly to Spazz every time he reached out for her.

Cress just face palmed when he saw his Panpour fall for the attract hook line and sinker and called him back after he was sure he wouldn't stop after being abused so much, and gave up. The other gym leaders were laughing, but they didn't take it too far before announcing how the match had ended.

Two of the three matches won, Cilan asked if Evin wanted to continue since victory was already his and Evin said, "Oh why don't we have our match anyway. My riolu here has been waiting for a challenge." And Cilan's replay was, "A challenge? Well a challenge she shall have. I shall not disappoint."

As he words came to an end, Cilan called out his trusty Pansage and entered the gym leader's box. Evin knew all of Pansage's attacks, but didn't know how strong he was now as he nodded for Rika to enter the arena. Rika took her place in the arena and was ready to go, she knew fighting moves wouldn't be very effective against the grass type and Evin had told her to be on the lookout for a spore attack that would put her to sleep.

The sparing practice earlier that day with Snivy had very well prepared her for a battle against a grass type. She remembered how they moved and attack, but in all of this she was also still worried about Evin still enduring one of his mind-breaking headaches even as the battle was about to start.

But then the battle began with the ringing of Cress's voice saying "Begin!" and she got refocused. As the first move used was Pansage's bullet seed, Rika dodged the attack easy enough before Evin then called for force palm. He knew if he could just paralyze the grass type he would have an almost for sure victory, but it don't go the way he hoped at all as Pansage seemed to resist every move it was hit by stunningly well.

The battle went on as the grass monkey took her abuse and retaliated with his own attacks, first a half hour passed and then an hour, but both were battling to their full extent until Pansage gained the big upper hand advantage after blinding Rika with dirt in the eyes. Rika flailed a bit for a moment before Evin coached her into sensing the other pokemon with her aura.

It wasn't a developed sense yet since she was still under evolved, but it was still effective enough to keep her from getting caught completely off guard with her eyes closed. Being that she was more in touch with her aura abilities when her eyes were closed, she could now sense that Evin was about to have another large migraine headache assault as he had her dodging attacks.

Just as Evin's headache hit, Cilan had Pansage use solar beam; it hit just in front of Rika and blasted her into the air before she came down into the hard arena ground with a thud. She was a bit dazed but nowhere near down and out, but the blast also reminded her of the Ursaring that had attacked her before she had ever met Evin, and after her crash landing on the ground, she came up with a series of growling barks.

Still blinded with the dirt in her eyes, she continued barking wildly as she vented her anger at Cilan for attacking when her trainer was in such pain. Then in the middle of her tantrum and right when Cilan was going to call another attack, a blinding light lit Rika's body from within and right before Evin's very eyes as his migraine died down, he saw her take the shape of his most favorite pokemon, a lucario. While he liked many different forms of pokemon similar to a lucario, this was still the one form of pokemon that pleased him the most out of any other.

Freshly evolved, Rika slowly opened her eyes as she tried to see what had just happened. She looked at her paws with what almost looked like shock as she saw the new spikes for the first time. She could now also feel the powerful energy within herself and felt how keen her senses had become.

Then after she was done taking in her new senses, her eyes burned with fiery determination and a hint of anger as they locked on the now scared Pansage in a predatory manner. Cilan had Pansage use dig and the monkey disappeared underground. Evin in the meantime opened his pokedex to see what her new move sets were and ordered her to close her eyes and sense the pansage with her aura.

The tactic worked, for right after she did as he said, she jumped away just in time as the grass type emerged from where she had been. Elated Evin then called for her to use aura sphere. Putting one paw over the other she did as instructed shot a bright ball of blue light strait at her opponent.

Hitting its mark with forceful blue brilliance and power, Pansage was knocked into the air where Evin then had Rika finish up with bone rush to knock the other pokemon unconscious. Using the large energy bone that formed in her paws, Rika gave the grass type a beating that she was sure he would never forget.

His pokemon battered and unconscious, Cilan gave his bravo and congratulations on both the victory and Rika's evolution and then presented the Trio badge to him and Rika. Then he talked to them a little bit about the road ahead and the dangers they may be face if they proceed, then bid them a safe journey and said, "Past this city is where many of the pokemon thief gangs have been actively operating. You will need to be extra careful on your travels from here on and you should also always assign someone in your group to keep watch at night." Evin gave him his thanks for the warning and advice and assured him they would use it.

Dawn wasn't sure what to make of all this talk of danger, but she was glad that she had strong companions. At that moment she missed being with Ash and Brock all the time and remembered all the trouble they all used to get into, but even then she remembered how Ash somehow always got into more trouble than most and would somehow always come out on top when it mattered.

Evin though, she wasn't too sure what to think of him just yet, he still seemed to be so mysterious still, yet she was sure he was a good guy, otherwise she knew Rika wouldn't have joined him, or for that matter evolved. She could tell that Rika liked him a lot and that she really cared for him, knowing that riolu and lucario never went with bad people and almost always had some kind of honor code they followed and lived by.

Rika at this time was jumping up and down with joy at evolving as she kept running her paws over her new curvy body. She felt herself up several times from head to toe and she also experimented with her new aura powers to sense things in the same way Evin had been doing for a while now.

Though Evin by now was well past just being an aura user and was more like a psychic with some aura powers on the side. With her new powers she could sense how powerful his powers had become and sensed the thousands of minds he was struggling to keep out of his head that were breaking away at his peace of mind.

Once done at the gym, they went back to the pokemon center and checked in to spend the night by using their pokedexs as their free passes. They were only able to get a double room however since all the others currently had occupants or were otherwise booked. Shrugging from the inconvenience, they then all sat down at a table for supper and were soon heading up to their room while they talked about the day's happenings.

After entering the room both Dawn and Evin let their contained pokemon out of their balls. Spazz had a curious look around, but he wasn't too happy with being confined indoors since he had wanted some private alone time with Aqua. Dawn didn't seen any problems with Evin taking the first turn in the shower or that he had taken Rika in with him since most all trainers including herself groomed their pokemon while they bathed and cleaned up before bed. Unpacking her stuff, she laid claim on the bed closest to the door and started E-mailing her mother and friends about all the things she had been doing.

With the door securely shut Evin began to disrobe after turning on the water to the shower, but as he stripped he found that once again he felt slightly embarrassed doing so in front of Rika. She had seen this sort of thing done only a few times within her parent's pack since it was not a very common problem, but when there were newly evolved lucarios that were advancing too fast for their minds to keep up, they sometimes needed help to control their own powers.

Evin felt the stress of all the nearby minds lift from consciousness almost immediately. Like holding and umbrella in the rain, the voices he had been hearing were finally being blocked out, which allowed his mind to become blessedly quiet again at long last. His thoughts were once again his own and though he could still feel Rika's general mood and thoughts with her so close, it was really no bother to him at all. Then Rika asked, "Better?" He sighed and said, "Much better. Thank you, I didn't know you could do that. I thought I was going to go crazy if we had to stay here much longer"

She gave a happy growl and it was only right after that when Evin reopened his eyes that he noticed exactly where his head was.
