Averin woke up once again in the same bed as before. He winced and gave a moan in pain when he moved. Looking down, his left arm that possibly was dislocated was in a tight splinter. But what worried him most was the scab of dried blood that covered his left cheek and head. He blinked once, Bodemair came into view. His face contorted to a growl. Critically looking him over and placing a hot cloth over the one side of his body. His expression changes when he looked at Averins face. His ears went flat on his head as he asked "How are you feeling"

Averin stifled a laugh before considering Bodemair's words.

He was not all right; he has run away from home and stumbled upon a nation unbeknownst to most humans of the land. He was announced to be a guardian of the very people who now seem to love and hate him.

He even pondered whether he will ever return to his homelands and find somebody to be with for the rest of his life.

He could feel his emotions well up inside of him. Bodemair dropped what he was doing, noticing Averins distress.

"Can you help me up?"

Bodemair obliged by lifting him up from his torso against the wall, moving his injured arm to a more comfortable position.

Averin now realised that he had no clothes besides a sheet to cover.

"What's wrong?" Bodemair asked calmly?

"Everything! I don't think I'll ever be able to live a life like I once did"

"Come now, I know your hardships"

"Do you?" Averin spat out in his pain

Bodemair sighed and proceeded to drench a cloth in warm water "I'm going to wash your body, it's full of blood"

Averin realised his offence and decided to keep quiet, letting his host do his will. The cloth was a comforting feeling as Bodemair carefully washed his face and neck down to his chest, back and torso.

He was about to remove the sheet but paused "you're full of wounds that need cleaning; may I?"

Averin shrugged, he did not care too much now.

Once Bodemair had cleaned his entire body, he wrapped him up in a fresh sheet and sat quietly for a moment next to him. "You know, Averin, I have a bad history of my own"

Averin snorted, Bodemair ignored him and continued "I had a family far west of Tela'Vel. A place called Brigador, quaint and only inhabited by Balerin folk. I was happy with a mate and one cub. We moved here soon after realizing the dangers of your kind and found the Drak-Kin in need of allies. This is where we settled. This was our den, and we were happy.

My son grew well here, almost my height when he was fifteen and he was recruited into the ranks that defended this place" Bodemair smiled as if to himself and the memory, "i was so proud of him. He became the leader of his pack and was well renowned and respected. Everybody said to me; your son has your blood, you should be proud. I was proud"

Bodemair gave a shaken sigh "A few years after that, it was after a Krug raid, my son led alongside me in the defence and we did well in protecting Tela'Vel. But afterwards, later that night, I looked into his eyes and I saw something that was not there before. He had lust for blood and hatred that soon drove him to insanity. He went mad soon after, that was when he became dangerous, his mind was gone and one of my men put him down in order to protect the others. His hit was so strong, people could not get him down and when they did, he died"

Averin was quiet. He had no idea and al he could whisper was "I'm sorry"

Bodemair looked at Averin and smiled "You are one of the few people that can speak the tone of sympathy and honesty in your voice. I know you're sorry, it was a long time ago and it was nobody's fault. My son could not handle it, I just should have seen it sooner"

Averin felt immense pity.

No more was said and Bodemair proceeded to remove the splint from Averins arm. Once it was off, he tested it. It hurt incredibly but it could move and function properly. Only once Averin stood and had his clothes on did he decide that he will assist Bodemair in cooking their meals. It was a great relief when laughter and jokes burst into warm merriment. It was at that moment that they could see each other as brothers. Hardships and all, and with a lighter tone, they turned in for the knight knowing that they had each other for good company.

"Think clearly!" roared the massive grey Balerin, Gredifer. Averins new trainer was harsh and strong and equally as fast as him. But he was always bested in some way.

Resuming his pose, Averin moved his sword point down and stretched out to his left. Gredifer growled and took a swing with his mallet. Averin lifted his weapon from its position to between them and parried the blow before following through with a twist and a jab. It was blocked swiftly and moved outwards to the point where his injured arm gave in and the sword was dropped.

The massive Gredifer went for the fatal mock blow. Desperately, Averin ducked and dove into his trainers thighs, wrapping his arms around the legs that were as thick as his torso.

Gredifer stumbled and fell backwards having Averin on top of him. He thought he had had the upper hand but the great mass only rolled over and threatened to crush him.

He leapt out and clambered on top of Gredifer to his neck where he attempted to wrap around and strangle him into submission. He succeeded brilliantly in finding the weak spot as his trainer was now completely helpless and could do naught but surrender.

Averin cried out with triumphant joy and released to roll onto the grass where the lay starring at the sky panting and soaked in sweat.

"You did well guardian. I may just yet make a fighter of Tela'Vel out of you"

"And that day will be one to remember for you now wouldn't it"

"And just what do you mean by that eh? You beat me? Impossible!"

The lay for a long while trying to catch their breath, once they did, Gredifer stood. Averin was about up when footsteps were heard and a huff. Looking to his left all he could see was midnight blue fur as he was tackled to the floor.

"Bodemair you...!" Averin yelled

They rolled several times before Bodemair ended on top of Averin holding him down with his snout in his face

"Geroff me!" he yelled

"Ha! If you weren't off guard you would not be in this predicament"

Averin heaved twice before Bodemair realised the human was coming loose. He yelped; two arms wrapped around him and gave him a crushing squeeze.

"Okay! Okay, let go now"

Averin did and helped him from the ground only to tease the two of them "Ha! I bested you both!"

"Wait until you fight with your next trainer. He's a Drak-Kin"

Averins smugness was gone "Oh..."

The two Balerins laughed. Gredifer wrapped an arm around him "Don't worry, you will be good enough for anybody as long as you stay clear in your mind"

They collected their things and sat down at the base of the tree that was hollow and the home of Gredifer.

"But that's another day" Bodemair chuckled and moved next to Averin to give him a boyish embrace.

Averin did likewise and they spent the rest of the afternoon talking pleasantly. Knowing now that their present was bright and happy and they had no worries for the future.
