17th June 2007, at morning.

FOXES

Beep! Beep!

Over and over again, trying to wake him, hopelessly. Till it gave up, not for long, just goingover to another tactic. The sound of electric guitars reached his ears which twitched a little in response. The sound got louder and finally he woke up and turned around laying on his back now. His mouth was dry like the desert, the taste of salt on his tonque still remaining, like memories in his mind.

He opened one eye slightly, looking down over his white furrey chest, along his yellow trousers, down at his sneakers. Trying to join the song a little "Roxanne...red light..ooh" failed, since he barely got his lips parted, still too tired but he needed to get up.

The radio would not let him sleep further anyway. He forced himself up from the couch, yawned widely and wished he had his radio between his teeths. Stretching in front of his desk for a moment, his neck cracked slightly, telling him the way he slept was not all too comfortable.

His eyes focused at the clock hanging above the wooden door of his office. It was nine at morning and he was sure to be the only who not already had shown up downstairs. Still, work must have to wait till he got the salty taste out of his mouth and more important, something to eat. He was starving, his stomach was growling the story.

He was not the only one beeing late today. Trix had not gotten much sleep aswell. Shehadworked a little on her clothes after the party. Getting the yellow suit the right style, hers. Flared along the legs and most important, the writing on the chest painted over, still in red, but was now part of a red striped going over her back aswell. She was happy with it but barely could see the street through her mostly closed eyes, yawing every now and then.

She drove the way nearly blind but managed it not to crash something. Still alive she arrived at work and parked her car. With a jump she was out and closed the door, more or less weakly, her eyelids took the last bit of her view just as her eyes had seen the old restaurants entrance.

She was like on autopilot, with the use of sixth and seventh senses, walking through the door, following a feeling and the slight smell of food, over at the bar and sat down on a chair in front of it. She put her arms on the table and lowered her head on them with a dreaming smile. Her tail wagged from side to side while she was about to fall asleep again. "This bar is realy comfortable" she was mumbling quiet.

She raised her head, eyes open wide "A bar??". She could not believe it, but there was a real bar in front of her but instead of drinks there were autoparts. She turned around, taking a look at the rest of the room. More autoparts, racks full of them. A few red couches were placed at yellow tables, it looked somehow like a hardrock cafe, just more modern.

She went over to one of the couches and sat down, staring at her own reflection at the yellow table in front of her. Her head went a little closer turning slightly from left to right, making a few funny faces as if she had not seen her reflection for a while.

Footsteps got her attention and she looked over, past the bar, to the floor leading to the garage. There was Danny, scratching himself behind his right ear as he entered the room.

"Morning Trix" he said and gave her a little smile before his stomach remembered him again at how hungry he was.

Yesterday there was nothing but dirt, a fishy smell and rotting stuff and now everything was new, shiny and even the smell was more invitingly. She could still not believe it "When did you do that?".

"Wasn't me. Got some eager beavers in need of cash" he said and went behind the bar. "By the way, say hello to our visitor" with those words he got down to the ground, leaving nothing more as his tail looking over the table.

She was just about to ask, but then the door opened and Alex came in, both stared a moment at eachother before silence left the room. "YOU!" they both said in unison.

"Geek!" she said and quickly got up from the couch.

"Flower Child" he returned and both approached eachother, facing, snarling.

Danny just got up from behind the bar with a sandwich, captured between his teeth. Happy with his catch he was watching Alex and Trix a little before he went over and laid his arms around them. "So, you know eachother already. Makes things easier" he said with a smile and left both behind as he went over to the door, finishing with his sandwich.

Alex turned around just to see Danny leaving the room. "I refuse to work with a Flower Child!" he said loud and upset in hope to reach Danny's ears.

"You are free to go" she told him in a little less agressive tune, crossing her arms.

Alex faced her again "Yeah. Bet that would make you happy".

"Very" she answered honsestly.

He thought a moment before a grin appeared on his muzzle "Fine, then i'll stay".

Danny could hear them outside and chuckled a little. He was sure to have an interesting time with them. He looked down street, it was a good day, right for some training he thought and stretched a little before he began to run along the street.

He could not say how long his run took, but as he returned slightly sweating, he could few Alex and Trix still in the same room, sitting far away from eachother, never loosing sight. "You need something to do" Danny broke the silence. "Got something for you two, follow" he said and went ahead over to the garage.

Alex and Trix were both close behind him, but had some trouble as both wanted to get through the door at the same time.

Alex made a little room "Lady's first".

Trix just pushed him aside and went ahead "Geek".

Danny just got the last chain away from the doors and throwed his keys over at Trix which made it to catch them with a little jump. "Have fun" he said, walking past them "but don't touch her" and out of the garage into the sun again.

"Listen" Alex said, impatience in his voice "I'm here to to be part of a crew, not to look behind some doors or hanging around with a Flower Child!".

"Just shut up" she said and looked at a key with a silvery star on it. She wanted to know what was left behind those doors, no matter what it would be as long as her curiosity was sated.

She went over and pulled the heavy doors open, amazed by what she viewed behind them. That silver star, the same like it was at the key, the black colour, this car, she had seen it yesterday at the party.

Alex was not just amazed by the view, he was more like a cub at christmas. He rushed over at the drivers door and tried to open it, he stared over at Trix, which throwed him the keys over with a slight sigh.

Finally the door went open but the expression in his face showed that he was a little bit disappointed by the view. He had hoped for some hightech inside of that car, but there was nothing more as a few additional buttons, switches and that little screen in the midle. Nothing special, just like any other of the cars in the scene, atleast it had not a bad style.

"Felt asleep there?" she asked, still waiting for the hood to unlock.

He looked at her through the darkened windshield and sticked his tonque out while he opened the hood.

"Wow" she said and stared at the engine "that realy deserves to be called a big block". Every bit of the engine seemed to be chromed and something was written in red onto it. She leaned over to be able to read it "Experimental Supercharged Hemispheric Engine". She knowed what it ment, but had problems to understand the way it worked.

There were two big blue gas containers. "Maybe the Nitro" she said unsure and tried to follow all those many cables with her eyes. Nothing seemed to be usual at the engine, there was not even a battery. The engine was held up by some kind of stabilizers or maybe just springs. She was getting a little headache already.

A strange black box got all her attention, gleaming in a deep blue tune through a few slots. Maybe that was the battery, would atleast been something to start with. She reached her paw out to it.

"We are told not to touch it" Alex said, standing beside her already since some moments unnoticed by her, staring some himself.

"Don't remind me, know what he said" with those words she touched the box and was trying to find something like a button on it. But all she got was a shock from the box which let her fur puff up instantly. She felt stunned for a few seconds till she heard that laugh, it was Alex laugh.

"Looks like someone was too long into the dryer" he said between laughs, already getting short on breathe.

She stared angry and just grabed his shoulder, sharing the fun with him.

His fur showed the same reaction as hers before and he was sure to smell something burned "Well done...".

Danny came back, just in time to have a few on two funny furballs. "Oho, partnerlook. You two must like eachother realy much" he said and barely could see their faces but was sure they would not look all to happy.

Both started to get they fur back in shape again while Danny was getting hungry again. A single sandwich was for sure not enough for somebody like him.

"Think we should start with some special training now, since you already woke her up" with a smile he walked over at them and took his keys back. "One last thing" he added as he was about to get into his car "don't tell anybody about this. Will be the best, trust me".

FAST FOOD

Trix and Alex stood aside the street, waiting for Danny which was already over time.

"Do you think he forgot about us?" Alex asked, taking a look at his watch.

"Don't know, just keep looking" she answered, staring downstreet.

They was nearly about to go back into the garage as the sound of sirens appeared close. Both looked over at where the sound came from and viewed Danny getting closer with a high speed, chased by a few police cars. He had his windows open and seemed to hold something high with his right paw as he passed them.

"Was that realy...??" Alex asked her, still following Danny with his eyes.

Trix raised an eyebrow "I'm not sure, but it looked like a sandwich bag from Michelle's around the corner".

Danny wished he had made an picture of they faces. Atleast he had something to eat, as soon as he got rid of the cops behind.

He had a lot fun and decided to use it as training for the whole week. He would find less time to sleep, driving through nights and using the day to have some training for him and his crew. It would be worth it.

Monday...

"Late again?" Trix asked, staring down the street, trying not to blink, she could miss anything.

"Still fifteen seconds left" Alex answered her, his eyes at the watch, counting the time.

Alex had not even finished his answer as she could already see him and heared those sirens again. There was a lot of distance between Danny and the cops and as he passed, showed that bag again.

"He got the bag but what about the time?" she looked over at Alex, waiting for his answer.

"Four fiftyeight, that was close" but it was still in time.

Tuesday...

Trix and Alex were sitting on chairs aside the street in the shadow of a sunshade, enjoying the day all relaxed. Nearly forgetting about Danny who soon appeared with the cops and passed with a very confused look.

He hit the brake hard which let the cops rush past him, surprised. He drove backward and stoped aside of Trix and Alex, still with the same confused look. Before he could say something he remembered the cops still chasing him and sped up backwards to turn around in a swift motion, cops at his tail again.

Wednesday...

"A cold drink would be nice right now" Trix said with a smile and pushed her sunglasses a little up. She was so relaxed that she even forgat what they were waiting for.

"Next time you should ask Danny if he gets you one" and Alex remembered her.

"Sure, next time maybe" Danny said and sat down on his own chair aside of them..

"Danny??" both were more then surprised to see him there and not at the street as usual.

He held his finger at his lips, silencing further questions. Then he pointed at the street and waited. Moments passed but nothing happened, until they reached the time where Danny usual appeared in his car.

Some police cars came out of every side street nearby, sirens, bluelights, driving in circles unable to find what they had waited for. It was funny but it was over all too soon as the cops gave up and drove away, returning to patrol.

Trix and Alex had some peacefull moments during the last days, but they were rare and short. Danny enjoyed the fun he had, watching those two Foxes trouble eachother. In his eyes it was just some playing around, mean play but it seemed to be the only way for those Foxes to exist aside of the other one.

Trix was trying to start her truck, over and over again. It was hopeless but she don't wanted to give up.

Danny just came back from a run as he viewed the whole scene and got over to her "What's up?".

"Something wrong. Listen yourself" she turned the key again and still the engine refused to start.

Danny got an idea what the problem could be and took a look at the pipes. Something was inside of them. He pulled it out and laughed a little "Hey, looks like you got visited by the Red Sox".

She jumped out of the truck and looked at a pair dirty red socks he held in his paws. "I'll kill him, for real!" she said and snarled angry as she walked over to the shop.

Thursday...

Danny just woke up, his ears laying flat on his head and his eyes were still shut as he walked over at the street. All he wanted was to take some breathes of fresh early morning air. He seemed to be still dreaming as he stood there. He stretched with his usual wide yawn as something fast passed him, then three or more things nearly with the same speed. His ears perked up just in time to catch a dull thud aside of him.

His eyes opened slightly, staring down. He took the brown bag of the ground and looked upstreet, viewing something yellow disappear, which was Trix in her Pussywagon.

"That i call fast food" he said and got a sandwich out of that bag.

It was not much later as Alex wanted to take some new electronic parts out of his car as a strange smell reached his nose. His eyes followed the smell till they showed him a brown puddle right below the engine of his car. It was not just the puddle which let him run over to his car, more the fact that this stuff was coming from his car. Hastily he opened the hood and yelled "Shit!".

Danny had heared him and came out of the shop. He was unsure if there was realy a problem or just some mean play of Trix again. But one thing was sure, he would not want to miss it. So he walked over and Alex pointed at his problem.

Danny looked at the engine which was coated with some brown juice. He sniffed at it "That's not shit. Never smelled warm chocolate?". He began to lick a little of the engine "Need to admit, she has a good flavour".

Still it was a little too harsh so Trix got the job to clean the whole car. Alex meanwhile watched it from inside the shop through one of the big windows with a grin of joy.

"Nothing to do Alex?" Danny had watched him standing there a while "Then you have now".

And so Alex got the job of cleaning the whole shop. Trix was now the one watching him through the window and giggled every now and then. She was still cleaning his car, but she don't cared anymore.

Friday...

Danny held Alex watch in his paw as he stood with Trix aside the street. They waited for Alex. He was even in view but it took some time for him to arrive. His try to be fast was not even worth to be timed, but it was his first.

"Alex you do that again" Danny was sure Alex could drive more then seventhy miles.

But Alex next try was not realy better. Even casual drivers got passt him, leaving him behind. Sure Alex was over the speedlimit but no cop would have noticed him.

"And again" he told Alex.

Alex did as he was told and got a little faster, still way too slow for Danny.

"Again, again, again, again, again!" he could not believe it how someone with such a car could drive that slow.

Minutes passed, then hours, but nothing else as wasted time. Trix still stood aside of Danny, but was already felt asleep. Her ears twitched a little when a car got close but that was all. It was already late, the sun was going down and Danny was sure he could hear a scream, telling him he was about to get insane.

Alex stoped in front of him and leaned out of the codriver window "How was it this time?".

Danny took a deep breathe trying to stay cool. Then he throwed the watch over his shoulder and turned around, going over at the shop.

The watch crushed on the ground woke up Trix which responsed with a frightened "Yip!".

Saturday...

Trix wanted to make some photos of Danny, but not usual photos. She wanted some special photos and so she took Alex with her upstreet over to a stationary radar trap which was hidden a little bit outside the city.

Alex stood on her shoulders and already was working at the box while his tail hit her face all the time. She could not see anything, but hear and she heard Danny already getting closer. Then he appeared but as fast he was gone again.

Trix cheered after him, standing at the street and had completely forgot about Alex.

"Trix!" he yelled, trying not to loose hold of the box which was the only thing that safed him from falling. Until with a loud crack the pole let go of the box, and Alex. Both luckily felt into the bushes. Not that it helped Alex much who was captured between a bush and that box he still was holding.

Trix turned around and viewed him trying to get that box away from him. She felt a little sorry for him cause it was her fault, but she just put out her most innocent smile "Ooops". After all, she got what she wanted, the photos.

It was a good week for everyone of them, but mostly for Danny who got more and more knowledge about the street every day. His rivals got harder and still he was able to win every race, and there were many. Maybe it was cause of the training, maybe it was cause he had luck, but maybe it was even something else.

He went higher and higher at the list and no one could stop him. Nigel was atleast as happy as Danny with those many good races, they even got better friends over the week. But most important for Danny was the little mountain outside the city. It was called Angel's Peak and for him it was like heaven. A dreamly view, a very long road with many sharp turns going down from Peak to City.

Every night he took one or two hours after a race just to drift up or downhill, enjoying the silence which he needed. Slow, perfect slides, that was his way to meditate. To find a little bit inner peace between all the things that mattered and were left behind as soon as he reached the mountain. Sometimes, it was a little bit lonely but he thought it would be better like that, since he had not met anyone which seemed to feel like he did.

And so he would just continue, as he always did, unknowing that the next twentyfour hours would change so much...
