So I was going through my stories and came across this one that I wrote a while back. I went trough it and rewrote bits of it to make more sense...honestly my spelling and grammer in a lot of this was horendous! I'm not the greatest at writing but even still! Anyway I thought I'd post it here and see what kind of response it gets. I have the second chapter ready and the third is more or less done.

I had said in previous posts that I have a story under way that I'm going to be posting soon, this is not that story! That story is currently being beta read and will hopefully be ready for your viewing pleasure in the next couple of weeks.

Okay so about this story. This is a random mix of mythical beasts/creatures, superstitions and anime all rolled into one. Basically it's one massive fanfic. While most of the characters are human like, they are as much demon as they are humans, and there will be some furry goodness in here as well. So I hope you enjoy it.

Boring Disclaimer : This story contains many characters and ideas taken from various games and anime, I do not claim to own any of them. This is purely a Fanfiction story, only using those characters and ideas as well as my own, and twisting them into something that people may enjoy reading.

Chapter 1: Sleepless Knights

New York City, The City that never sleeps. In this city darkness is stirring, festering and readying itself to consume this city and all those that live here. In the Shadows the Demons are plotting, moving unseen by the ignorant inhabitants of this city who refuse to see the truth, watching the humans and plotting how best to strike and claim this city as their own. But the city is not defenceless. A man is watching the invading shadows and waiting and plotting his own plans on how to strike back them, he is this cities guardian.

He could go around the city systematically killing every Demon he encountered but that would not be enough, that would simply drive the Demons into hiding and would make it harder to find out what they are plotting, no, that simply wouldn't do. He needs to strike at their heart, landing a devastating blow before they even knew he was there. His name is Vincent and this is what he does, protecting the balance at what ever cost, he is a Daemon.

A shadowy figure walked along the docks, it was night and the rain was pouring from the heavens as if the world was crying at the impending fate of city. The hooded figure moved swiftly and purposefully past buildings, around stacks of pallets and random junk barely visible in the night, the rain clouds blotting out the full moon that was out this night.

The hooded figure moved towards a warehouse where two guards stand at the entrance idly talking to each other. They see him approach when he was but a few feet away and caught unawares they jump in his path drawing their pistols and aiming them at him. Stopping now the cloaked man looks at them, his face hidden by his hood, the rain loudly falling around them making the guards have to raise their voices to be heard over it.

"All right, who the fuck are ya, and what are you doing here?" One of them asked aggressively pointing his gun at the mans face trying to intimidate him. The mans blue waterproof hooded jacket hiding everything but the mans face and hands.

"I am looking for Sanguin." The hooded man responds calmly, his hood hiding his face. "I was told I could find him here."

"Oh yeah? What you wanting with the boss?" The other guard who was dressed in the same waterproof jacket asked.

"I'm planning on sending him screaming back to the shadow world."

"Huh?" Both guards blinked dumbfounded at the the cloaked mans answer before snarling and raising their guns to fire. As they did the cloaked man moved with great speed dashing between them, both guards collapsed each of them winded from having being struck in the chest and a slip of paper stuck to where they were struck. Each slip of paper had a symbol written upon it. Both guards lay on the ground, the gasping for air, their eyes glowing blood red.

"Sorry but today is the last day you will live in this world using the bodies of the innocent, return to the shadows demons."

"Wh...who...are..." One of guards tried to sputter.

"My name is Vincent, and I am a Daemon." Making a hand sign the slips of paper burst into blue flame and both demons screamed as the blue flames spread across their bodies as they writhed in agony. After a few moments the flames died down and the guards bodies fell motionless, only twitching occasionally. "Hmm...they should live, they had not been possessed for too long." Turning towards the door Vincent moved towards his objective. To destroy Sanguin and send any other demons who were with him back to where they belonged.

Silently Vincent entered the warehouse and threw away his drenched cloak and made his way down the corridor towards the main part of the warehouse. Vincent's blood red cape fluttered behind him as he moved quickly, yet silently, down the dimly lit corridor. His cape come down to his knees the bottom of it in tatters from years of use, his shoulder length hair black as the night was held back a bandanna the same colour as his cape. His body covered in a black leather armour offering some protection from blades, but not much else, but still allowed freedom of movement. At his waist a large pistol sat in a holster on his right and around his belt lay several pouches containing the various tools of his trade. His left arm had a golden gauntlet which the fingers curved into claws. Vincent's eyes glowed red in the dim light allowing him perfect vision in the darkness and gave away his true nature, the beast that lay within him.

Vincent stopped in the doorway and peered into warehouse where many possessed were busying themselves with the weapons for the up coming war, crates of weapons filled the warehouse, guns and explosives could be seen from several of the open crates. The Demons tools of war that they prepared to wage against the residents of the light.

Stepping from the shadows Vincent walked calmly into the warehouse going unseen by those around him as moved with purpose, reaching into one of his pouches he pulls out a glass vial that has a green liquid in it and throws it into a nearby wooden crate and calmly turns and walks away toward the far end of the warehouse. The glass vial shatters drawing attention of those nearby and the green liquid sets alight after coming into contact with the air causing a blaze amongst the crates. Everyone there began to panic and either attempt to put out the flames or runs from the scene, moments later the burning crates exploded, the flames set off the explosives inside them killing all those in the vicinity; causing panic and chaos.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!" Came a booming voice from the second floor platform at the far end of the warehouse where the office was located, at the railing stood a large man dressed in a dirty suit. The man was not a man at all but a Demon, small horns protruded from his forehead and his jaw had began to elongate into a muzzle of some kind and was filled with razor sharp teeth. Seeing the Demon Vincent made his way towards him, walking calmly through the panicking bodies. The man saw Vincent approaching. "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!?!"

"Sanguin I presume?" Vincent asked calmly, still walking calmly towards him.

"Yeah? Who wants to know?" Sanguin replied, he eyed the stranger cautiously.

"My name is Vincent." He replied coming to a stop about ten feet away from the raised platform and looked up at Sanguin. "Your plans are ending here, along with your life."

"WHAT?! YOU THINK YOU CAN STOP ME?! DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!" Sanguin roared before starting to laugh outrageously. "ALL OF YOU USELESS INGRATES, KILL THIS MOTHER FUCKER!!"

Upon yelling this order all those in earshot calmed down and began to surround Vincent, grabbing the first weapons that came to hand, most of which were metal pipes, rods and knives. A couple of them had pistols. Before long Vincent stood in the centre of a dozen possessed human all of them grinning devilishly as they stood around him. Vincent gazed at all of them, each one had some sort of demonic feature on their body whether it be horns, claws, patches of fur, scales or even a tail each and every demon possessed host would not pass for human in the outside world.

'Hmm...I guess I don't have to hold back since its all ready too late for the hosts.' Vincent thought to himself.

"NOW KILL HIM!!!" Sanguin yelled from above and the mob rushed Vincent.

Vincent reached into his pouch and drew another glass vial, this one was filled with a blue liquid, and he smashed it against the ground and the whole area was flooded with a blue gas which caused everyone around Vincent to start coughing and spluttering.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON DOWN THERE!?!" Sanguin yelled as he stared down at the cloud of blue smoke. He was answered by the screams of his men and saw several running terrified from the debilitating smoke. "GET BACK HERE YOU WORTHLESS SCUM BAGS!!!"

"Your all alone now Sanguin." Vincent said, Sanguin spun round to see Vincent standing on the platform with him just a few feet away.

"Just who in the hell are you?! Do you know who I am?!" Sanguin growled fiercely while taking a few steps away from Vincent who remained motionless. Looking down at the floor below Sanguin saw the unconscious bodies of his men, as the smoke began to clear, Sanguin felt a shiver of fear run up his spine.

"I am well aware of who and what you are Sanguin. I also know what your intentions are. Which is why I'm here." Vincent stated pulling out the pistol at his waist and holding it his side. "You should have known that we would come and stop you eventually Sanguin. We who protect the balance and yet live as abominations and are shunned by both the light and the dark."

"Daemon...you're a fucking Daemon!!!" Sanguin sputtered fear now gripping his chest. "Even if you send me back to the Darkness I will return and plunge everyone into the dark!!!"

"Yes, that is why I'm not sending you back. I'm going to send you to the underworld, where all spirits go, both those of the light and the dark when they die. Vincent raising his gun and levels it at Sanguin, his eyes glowing red and a slight smile appears at the corners of his mouth.

"NO!!!" Sanguin yelled as he turned and leapt over the banister to escape his fate, but just as Sanguin leapt from the platform, Vincent fired as single round which hit Sanguin square in the back. The force from the shot caused Sanguin's body to fold in on itself and he let out a choked cry of pain before his body dispersed into a cloud of dust.

"Rest in peace Sanguin, your jealously, hatred and contempt for those living in the light are no longer nessassary. Now you'll live in a world where light and dark don't exist." Vincent said as he holstered his weapon and began clear up. Vincent moved into the office that Sanguin had emerged from and began looking through the files and paper work on the desk. After a few minutes Vincent came across a file that peaked his interest. Reaching into a hidden pocket he pulled out a mobile phone and flipped it open and pressed the speed dial.

"The brighter the light..." Came the voice on the other end of the phone.

"The darker the shadows." Vincent replied.

"Identify..."

"Vincent Valentine."

"Good to hear from you Vincent, it's been too long."

"Hello Bernadette, I need to speak to Francine right away."

"Of course, I'll put you through."

"Bonsoir, Francine speaking." Came a voice with a distinctive French accent.

"Francine, it's Vincent."

"Vincent! C'est si bon entendre de vous! What can I do for you darling?" Francine asked in an overly excited manner.

"I have just completed the assignment down by the dock. All Demons are either dead or are scattered to the wind. A few small fry escaped but they won't be too much trouble to track down before I return to base."

"Fantastique! Excellent work as always Vincent. Anything else? It's not like you to call unless your needing information or assignment details but I really wish you would. You work so hard darling! I could help you relax..."

"Francine...I've told you before..."

"Yes I know you have darling but all work and no play makes Vincent..."

"Enough Francine." Vincent said calmly. "I found an interesting document that we should report back to the Organisation. It is a list of contacts for people across the globe."

"It is a shipping company that they Demons were based in Darling. What makes this list so special?"

"It also had with it status reports about each contacts weapons arsenal among other details. It looks like this is bigger than we thought. There are contacts from 12 different countries."

"That is concerning...I will message the Organisation about this making them aware and when you return with the document we will forward it on immediately."

"Good. I should..." A large explosion ripped through the warehouse and the far wall collapsed. Vincent moved to the doorway and while keeping himself hidden and peered out. Around a dozen well armed soldiers dressed in grey were storming the warehouse, all of them armed with machine guns and had body armour and helmets that covered the top half of their face leaving their mouths visible while the rest of their faces were hidden behind the tinted glass. Vincent raised his mobile to ear. "Francine, I've got to go."

"Vincent..."

Vincent shut his phone and slid it back into his pocket before returning his attention to the soldiers in the vicinity. They were making quick progress towards Vincent's location, he couldn't stay here, they would undoubtedly search the office but there was no exit except past the soldiers themselves who were firing into everybody they found to make sure that they were dead..

"Troublesome..." Vincent muttered to himself. "I guess I have no choice." Reaching into his pouches Vincent pulled out three vials, two blue smoke gas vials and and vial containing an orange liquid. Footsteps could be heard coming up the metal stairs to Vincent's level. Vincent moved behind the door and waited. Listening carefully he could clearly make out two sets of foot steps approaching the office which means there were ten more still in the warehouse below, still firing shots into the numerous bodies that Vincent had already killed or incapacitated.

The first soldier stepped into the room and at that point Vincent kicked the door causing it to slam into the face of the soldiers companion. Spinning round the soldier saw Vincent but before he could react Vincent delivered a blow to the mans throat causing his windpipe to collapse. The Soldier fell to the ground like a bag of bricks gasping for air and clutching his throat. The door to the office burst open and the other soldier ran in and seeing Vincent prepared to open fire but Vincent had already thrown a blue vial at him and struck the soldier in the face shattering and flooding the area with smoke. The soldier fired his gun wildly into the dense smoke hoping to hit his target. Once his Gun had run out he moved to replace his clip but received a well placed kick to the gut which made his feet leave the ground and sent him flying back out the door and over the railings outside.

Downstairs the other soldiers had been alerted by the gunfire and blue smoke from the floor above. Two of the other soldiers dashed towards the stairs towards the office. As they approached they saw a body fly out of the smoke and through the air, they looked on in shock to see their comrade soaring through the air, when another figure burst from smoke and saw a black and red blur shoot through the air and connect with their comrade and plummet to the ground. Landing with a sickening thud Vincent rolled away from the body of the soldier he had used to break his fall and dashed towards the nearest soldier.

Seeing Vincent charge at him the soldier opened fire but Vincent gracefully leapt through the air and landed behind the soldier and grabbed the mans wrist as he spun round and pressed down on the pressure point located there making the man drop his gun . Vincent then threw the man over his shoulder onto the hard stone floor before snapping the mans wrist making him yell out in agony and debilitating him. All this took place in the space of three seconds and now the mans comrades were closing in Vincent smashed the second vial of blue smoke he held in his hand against the ground once again flooding the area with blinding smoke and hiding him from view. The soldiers opened fire wildly at where Vincent had been standing and the surrounding area.

In the confusion Vincent snuck past the soldiers before dashing towards the hole in the wall that the soldiers created to enter the warehouse. Once outside he was quickly surrounded another dozen or so soldiers all of whom have their weapons locked on him.

"Drop your weapons, put your hands up and surrender or we will open fire!" One of the Soldiers yelled.

"As you wish." Vincent smirked as he notices that it has stopped raining and he throws away the vial in his hand high into the air and places his hands up. Once he does so a couple of soldiers moved towards him, to detain him, but before they got close the glass vial filled with the orange liquid smashed against the ground quickly engulfing the area with an orange gas. A couple of soldiers muttered incomprehensible words before collapsing unconscious. "I am lucky that it had stopped raining or that gas wouldn't have worked." Vincent says aloud to himself. Stepping over the various bodies of unconscious soldiers Vincent began to make his way out of the area.

After a few steps Vincent jumped to the side, instinctively, narrowly avoiding a large broad sword which embedded itself into the ground where he had stood.

"Hmm...I missed." Came a voice from above. Vincent looked up and saw a silver eyed woman with blond shoulder length hair dressed in a skin tight grey outfit with a cape and chrome shoulder guards and boots.

"Who are you?" Vincent asked staring at the woman who promptly jumped down from the roof of the warehouse where she was standing and landed next to her sword and pulled it from the ground with ease.

"My name Clarisa, member of Claymores, number 30. I am going to detain you, if you resist I will kill you." She said confidently pointing her massive sword at Vincent.

"Number 30? Just who are the Claymores?" Vincent asked.

"Who we are is of no consequence to you. Now, lay down your weapon and surrender or I will kill you where you stand Demon."

"I am no Demon but your not entirely human either are you? Your still conscious while breathing in the gas. The gas was specially designed to knock out humans but leave demons standing so they would be easier to locate and reduce the danger to humans." Vincent explained. "As for your request...I'm afraid I'm going to have to decline." Vincent at that moment pulled out his pistol and fired off several rounds in quick succession at the woman who blocked them with the flat of her blade and charged at Vincent.

"DIE DEMON!" She yelled as her eyes turned to a gold colour with slitted irises and attacked Vincent attempting to slice him in half. Vincent was too fast and easily dodged the attack and quickly fired off an number of shots at her but once again she blocked them easily with her sword and charged at Vincent. Vincent dodged her attacks with unnatural grace and speed and kept firing off shot after shot at Clarisa who simply dodged them or blocked them with her sword with speed that no human should be capable of.

"I don't know what you are but I don't have time for this." Vincent said as he slid a new magazine into his pistol which was more like a small cannon from the amount of force each shot gave off. Leaping high into the air Vincent landed on top of a building as stared down at the woman.

"Come down here and fight me Demon!" Clarisa growled her body beginning to ripple as her muscles grew.

"Like I said, I don't have time for this." Vincent said calmly before turning his back on her and walking away.

"GET BACK HERE!!!" She yelled as she ran and jumped after Vincent her sword raised above her head ready to strike. In a blur of red Vincent spun round and threw something straight at her, on instinct, she sliced the object with her sword and she was immediately engulfed in flames as she felt liquid hit her body on her arms and chest and one side of her face.

Clarisa rolled about trying to extinguish the flames while screaming in agony, Vincent had thrown a vial filled with a green liquid at her and once she sliced it open the liquid set on fire once coming in contact with the air.

The Flames eventually died and Clarisa groaned in pain trying to stand but was unable to. The last thing she saw was Vincent standing above her looking down at her with those red eyes, betraying no emotion but glowing with power; she blinked and he was gone, like a phantom, into the night.

"Damn you Demon! I will have my revenge!" She cursed before she losing consciousness.
