This is the first chapter of Gem Wars my first attempt at a full furry novel. Please rate and comment and give as much feedback as possible. I'm hoping to do something different and original. I love pokemon and my mate loves sonic the hedgehog, they were the two things we grew up loving and our inspiration for the story. I hope you like it. Thank you all for reading.

Chapter 1

As the morning sun peeks over the mountains and through the thick evergreen trees, Trigger is waking up in his tent and about to head out to catch his breakfast. The grey and white timber wolf groans as he pulls on his boots and attaches his snow shoe set. Already bundled in his thick thermal insulated snow suit he heads out into the wilderness with his favored pistol, attaching a silencer to the barrel. With his acute ears he picks up on a flock of geese above and takes aim.

With a smirk he steadied his arms and said, "Duck, Duck ..."

His blue eyes track and lead his target as he cocks his gun and takes a short breath and at the inhale he pulls his trigger landing his shot and runs to go catch his kill as it falls to the earth. As he approached the fallen fowl he smirked.

"Goose," pulling out his hunters knife he cut the bird's head clean off and sheared off its feathers and primed it for cooking. Back at his campsite his catch lay in a cast iron pot filled with rosemary and thyme he founded in the forest. He'd gone back inside his tent to rest while his meal cooked and looked at his watch. The time to go and hunt his real prey was approaching. For the past two days he'd been camped out waiting for his bounty to land at the laboratory base that he was currently staking out. Trigger was a hired assassin and this was one of his highest paying jobs to date. With his deadly accuracy and god like reflexes this was the wolf to get the job done. Employed by S&C Corp. he was one of the top ten highest paid assassins.

The smell of cooked goose filled the tent as the smoke blew through the air. Re-emerging into the cold outside, Trigger looked into his pot to see a beautiful sear on meal and flipped it to continue cooking and took out his knife again to cut off a done leg from his bird. After his meal Trigger packed up his cookware and sat by the fire warming up. Then, the sound he'd been waiting to hear rang through the trees. The chopper would be landing soon.

His cell began to ring and that was his cue to take action.

"Mister Rush, we are ready for you!" a woman's voice signaled on the phone and hung up promptly.

Taking a walk about fifteen feet from camp into denser section of the forest looking down across to the landing site as the chopper made its decent; Getting into position and taking aim Trigger smirked as he saw the first few guards leave the chopper and scout out the fire door that the scientist would be entering. A tall slender fox emerged from the chopper dressed in a grey business suit that was topped with the classic scientist's lab coat. The wolf cocked his pistol and pulled the trigger. With his silencer still on he was sure not to make a sound or alarm any wildlife and grinned as he watched his target fall forward on his face before the guards could react.

Shocked and scrambling around like chickens with their heads cut off, the guards sounded the alarm and the chopper took off with the now dead scientist's body. Surely they wanted to get out of the area but soon they find that they too would be like the poor doctor. Pulling a rocket launcher over his shoulder, Trigger locked onto the chopper's engine and blasted it to pieces. And now his job was complete. His phone again and the female voice sounded.

"Good work Mister Rush, the agreed 3.4 million has been wired to the desired account and a receipt will be at the office for you. Thank for the added clean-up of your assignment, I've added 5.7 thousand for gratification. See you back at headquarters." And again, she hung up.

"She sure knows how to please a guy," Trigger smirked to himself. He'd never met woman on the phone, the voice who was the only that ever made contact with him, but she was alluring. That gently, familiar, somewhat illicit voice always left him wondering if they'd ever meet. But maybe it was for the best, Trigger wasn't the best conversationalist so it would be a quick one night stand. And like they always say, "don't mix business and pleasure".

After packing up his campsite and tying everything to the back of his snow-mobile Trigger was off to the hotel down below for a quick shower and to check out. "Greetings Mister Rush, is there anything I can get for you? We do hope you had a nice time on your hike," said a short young doe who greeted him at the elevator and attempted to pick up his camping back but couldn't so he did and smiled at how adorably strong she was trying to be. The young girl was assigned as his personal escort and assistant while here in the mountains, but was completely unaware of his mission. This little doe also worked for the same company Trigger currently employed but she had no idea as to the nature of his business there. Trigger liked her because of her ease with getting things done and she was always on top of things. Not to mention she was a total babe; not what you'd expect, she was small adorable and tiny, and those eyes. There was no way that she couldn't get what he needed with those eyes, anyone would melt at the sight of them. She gave a half smile and blushed when she looked back up to him and boarded the elevator with him.

"Could you the lift and have me a charter ready for decent off the mountain and arrange for my car to be ready when I land?" the wolf added looking at his watch. "In about two hours I'll be checking out."

"Right away Mister Rush!" the doe said as they left the elevator and walked to his room, where she opened the door and cut on all the lights in his suite.

"Thanks cutie, you're a doll." He said looking at her through his dyed blue streak of white fur that hung down over his face. But the reward was watching those green hues light up and widen as she blushed turning her cheek away and nearly stumbled out of the room. "Thank you Mister Rush. I'll give you a call when the charter is here for you."

And with that the little doe ran off with her arms wrapped around her small but cute breasts with a beaming smile on her face, thanks to Trigger's silver tongue. Closing the door to his suite Trigger sat his gear on the floor in the living space where his bags had already been packed as he instructed his assistant before leaving this morning. Unzipping his snow suit and removing his boots, Trigger walked into the master bedroom removing his sweater and thermals stripping down to his fur and sat on the bed opening his laptop.

"Voice recognition required," the security system on his laptop said as he typed in the necessary password. Trigger cleared his throat and spoke clearly, "Blitz."

"Voice recognition confirmed. Welcome Mister Rush." Checking his account, Trigger looked at the transaction list and saw the agreed amount his employer stated and her generous bonus.

Now it was time for a shower. Walking into the more then roomy bathroom, Trigger opened the shower door and turned it to medium; he didn't much care for an extremely hot shower just something soothing at first. Once he saw the steam start to fog the glass he stepped in closing the door behind him and sat down on the small bench letting the water drench his back. His ears flicked as the water splashed the back of them and his tail wagged lightly as his muscles relaxed. Sleeping on the ground hurts just a bit especially when on the ice and snow for the past three days.

It was soothing being under that water. Once he was comfortable he made the water hotter and grabbed a brush and lathered up and began to brush through his fur and scrub down away three days of sweat and musk. Having left the shower door open, when his assistant walked back into the room just to deliver a package that had come in for him, she noticed that musk and froze in her stride as she entered the living space where the musk had trailed in from the bedroom.

"Mister Rush," she said in an alerted voice, as her eyes softened and her cheeks reddened placing the box on the coffee table and cautiously walked to the bedroom doorway. She inhaled deeply and gave a nervous bleat. It was intoxicating. Her eyes glazed over as her little fingers trembled as she brought them up over her chest and hugged herself feeling that tingling overcome her. Her budding little breasts surged as her nipples hardened while her fingers traced over them but that imagination of hers would be interrupted as his phone sounded. The shower cut off and the little doe froze in fright hearing the shower door swing open. She quickly darted out for the door and closed it behind her. With her back to the door panting heavily; she hung her head letting her dark strands of hair drape over her cheeks covered the blush that painted those cute cheeks.

Trigger heard the door slam as he walked back out to the bedroom and quickly grabbed his pistol with the silencer still on it and answered his phone putting it between his cheek and shoulder as he slowly scouted into the living space his eyes narrowed in defense sensing someone was either in the room or had been. "Trigger here," he said answering. "Yes, Mister Rush, your charter is on its way to the lift carrier, Celia is on her way up to retrieve your things for departure," the male voice said. It was the front desk right on time from departure. "Thank you. I'll be down soon." Trigger looked at the suite door and pulled it open pointing his gun at the back of the little doe's head, cocking it and reached forward in a swift move covering her mouth and pulled her in kicking the door closed and held her too his chest.

"Good Sir, that is all." The male voice ended and hung up. Trigger then left his phone hit the floor and turned his attention to now squirming doe in his arms whose little feet kicked to feel the floor beneath her. He growled and tightened his grip on her.

"Celia, what are you doing?" he asked in a hard dark tone his one blue eyes, now start to turn a deep purple and glow with an insidious aura that seeped from his sockets starring down into her weeping dues. Frozen by the sight of this side she'd never seen before her little lips moved but nothing came out she just pointed to the package she had left on the table.

He turned looking out the corner of his eye and still carrying Celia in one arm that lay around her little throat now with her pressed against his now even muscled chest, he picked up the package and cut open the crease of it with his claw to see a silver shimmering stone with a very familiar insignia on it. He gave a furious growled and took her by the shoulders and hoisted her in the air and bellowed out, "WHERE DID YOU GET THIS?!"

She cried out in terror tears streaming her little face that was near as white as snow and trembled, "It came for you just a few minutes ago Sir. I ... I brought it up." He placed her down having seen her face and calmed himself reverting back to the once sophisticated and inviting help. She fell to her knees and backed away from him in fear to the divider that separated the kitchen from the living space and coward curling her little legs under her. "I'm sorry," she bleated. Trigger sighed looking at her balled his fist in anger. Not at her but himself. He shouldn't have scared her like that. He walked to the package and pulled out a letter addressed to him.

"Greetings Trigger,

If you haven't noticed, there is a gem in this box that I'm sure you are all too familiar with. A stone of great power and destruction, so I do hope you are careful with it and I hope you do well to keep this our little secret.

I'll been in touch soon. Stay safe my friend.

Nightmare!

Trigger's eyes widened after reading the letter and he growled aiming his gun back at the little doe. "I'm going to ask you one time and one time only, who do you work for Celia?" he said slowly turning back to her as his eyes turned that sinister purple again that eerie aura take over him again and wisp off, like mist on the morning wind, from his body. He snarled and walked to her as she desperately tried to back away. He reached out for her arm and pulled her up. "I work for S&C Corp. My supervisor is Desmond Rouche. I work as a junior assistant for you Mister Trigger. PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!" she begged as the barrel of the silencer came to her nose. He glared down into her eyes and waited to see if she way lying, waiting to see that dilation in her pupil but nothing. Those eyes just stared at him begging for life. He lowered his gun and let her down. "I believe you," he said simply and again was normal.

Weeping, the little doe clutched to him and hugged him with all the force her little body could muster she thanked him and praised him and began the circle of apologies and gratification. He cupped her little face in one paw and looked down at her. "No, I'm sorry Celia. I don't have time to explain things to you and it is better if you don't know. Listen this package didn't come in nor did you see what just happened alright. Get your things we are leaving. The charter is here by now." She nodded and ran to her room which was across the hall in a small one bedroom and he gathered his things packing his laptop. Of course he had to get dressed because in the midst of all the action he didn't even notice it. A simple pair of jean, a shirt, jacket and sneakers was already laid out for him. He met Celia at the door of his suite and they headed up stairs to the loft where the lift was ready and waiting for them.

"Thank you for staying with us Mister Rush, we do hope you and your assistant will be us again," the hotel manager said seeing the two off for their departure. "Your car is waiting for you at the lot, good day Sir." He finished and the two were off. Celia was flustered and speechless as the two were alone on the lift for their decent. Trigger sighed and looked down at her and took a seat, pulling over to sit with him.

"Look, I'm sorry for that, I don't do well with surprises," he started but was cut off by the little doe. Her small arms were wrapped around his neck and her face was against his chest. The piercing sound of glass is what caught his attention as blood spattered onto the opposite wall of the lift and stained his jacket. He looked down to see the blood stained doe go limp in his arms. His eyes widened as he looked up from the direction of the shot and saw a rifle at him by the hotel manager and growled quickly flicking his wrist as a pistol shot from his sleeve and shot up through the same hole the bullet intended for him came out of and hit the man square between the eyes.

"Hold on Celia!" he yelled to the doe as he removed his jacket and quickly applied pressure to her back and gently laid her down. There wasn't an exit wound. "Damn it, it's travelling," he said. The girl's eyes fluttered as she tried to speak. "Shh. Everything is going to be alright just keep breathing for me. Stay with me Celia" he ordered her.

The lift was just a few feet from the exit ramp and he could see his car in the distance. The valet was slowly approaching the lift to greet them. Trigger pulled Celia into his arms and cradled her bridal style and kicked open the lift door, as his eyes turned violet again and he moved to the farthest most part of the lift and ran off, jumping from the carrier door and onto the lift. The young fox, dressed in business attire and sunglasses, that was approaching stopped in his tracks watching the wolf land and dash past him. "Get the bags and take them S&C Corp on 578 Riften Boulevard in Metropolis Suite D 1900." Trigger yelled to him. By the time the young fox got to the where the lift stopped Trigger was already in his car taking off with Celia laid in the back seat.

"DAMN IT!" Trigger cursed himself and as he ordered his GPS for the fast way back to headquarters. The S&C Corp building located in the heart of downtown Metropolis; it was a central building do to its close ties with all the surrounding companies and corporation that were established around it. But by now S&C Corp was known worldwide was one of the most successful corporations on the planet. If Trigger had taken Celia to the hospital he knew things would get ugly and he didn't want to put his mission at risk of investigation and S&C Corp had its own infirmary on the central levels.

It would take Trigger at least an hour to get to headquarters, he had to drive fast. He put his paw to the metal and went way to fast over the speed limit but when the Highway Rangers saw him they couldn't even try to go after him by the time they wanted to start their car and go after him he would be within city reach. And even the police that saw him driving through town couldn't stop him until he stopped at the front of the building. But once he got in front of the building his car was greeted by special "valet" who stopped the police from following him into the building and took over legal matter from there. One of the best things about S&C Corp was that no one had power over them.

"Move! Move!" the wolf yelled as he rushed into the lobby carrying Celia in his arms. He could feel how cold she was getting but the bullet was still inside her. "Come on Celia hold on girl." He growled frustrated and looked around a desk clerks who were wide eyed and lost wondering what he was doing. "I need a medic!!" he yelled and not a moment later did emergency staff appear with a stretcher and were taking her up to the 10th floor into an operating room.

Trigger tried to follow them in but was stopped by a nurse and Celia's Supervisor. "Sir, you can't go in please wait outside. She's in the best hands now." The female giraffe tried to assure him. He nodded and looked through the widow and sighed clenching his fist pacing back and forth. Meanwhile, Mr. Rouche was looking at Trigger with a bit of nervousness and fear. True Celia didn't know what Trigger really did for an occupation but he did.

"Um, excuse me, Mr. Rush." Trigger gave him a glaring eye and snarled. "I .. umm, I need a report of the events that occurred leading up to the shooting Sir."

Even though Trigger wasn't in the mood to explain he knew he had to follow protocol. He gave the well-dressed Dalmatian what he needed, but left out the part about the package Celia had delivered to him and what its contents were.

"Thank you Mr. Rush. I'll be down shortly to come check on her and see that her family is informed on details."

"You're Welcome," Trigger said still pacing until his cell phone went off. The number didn't come up. It just read -private-. "Hello," Trigger started and was cut off by a sinister laugh. "So, I take it you're alive, how's the misses?"

"Nightmare! You son of a bitch!" Trigger growled into the phone.

"Now, is that anyway to greet an old friend? How have you been the past seven years? But I think we are far from pleasantries so I will just start out right. Go to Canal Street and Primpton, we do have business to discuss." And the phone hung up.

Trigger clutched the phone until it split in two and his eyes began to glow that dark purple. Nightmare wasn't a gracious male, if you haven't noticed, he was pure evil wrapped in a twisted psychotic mind of nefarious criminal and mastermind. The infuriated wolf went up to his suite 19th floor and saw that his bags had been brought up along with Celia's. He looked inside his backpack for the package he had received from Nightmare and took out the stone. He looked closely at the moon insignia that he recognized earlier and determined that it was one of few rare stones on the planet. "It looks like a Havoc Gem but I don't feel anything its power." He held the gem tight in his paw and focused hard. He would be able to sense if there was any energy within it but still even as hard as he tried, there was none. "What's Nightmare up to? Why would he send me a fake gem?"

This gem that Trigger held in his paw was part of a sought after set, that Nightmare had used once before to try to destroy the world; this wasn't good news. These stones were well known throughout Sega as the Havoc Gems and contained powers of unimagined worth. They were cherished long ago by ancient civilizations for their unique abilities and properties and now in modern times they have been treasured as weapons of destructions, hence the name Havoc associated with them.

As Trigger pondered about this he went to his study and brought up his old files and data he had on Nightmare that he collected over the years. For all he knew, Nightmare had vanished off the radar for the past seven years. Triggers last encounter wasn't a happy one. Before he was hired at S&C Corp. Trigger was a mercenary who did the odd job here and there taking down corporate bad guys and many assassinations but his biggest challenged and enemy was Nightmare. He foiled Nightmare's attempts years ago from starting a national crisis of chemical warfare.

It was going to be a long night and he had to prepare for meeting up with Nightmare. The sun was setting when Trigger remembered that Celia should have been getting out of surgery and into a recovery room. He took off his blood stained clothes and showered for the night and changed into a more sophisticated and edgy look of, suit pants, a collard button up shirt and a blazer. He picked up some flowers from the gift shop on his way down do the recovery floor and was escorted from the front desk to Celia's room.

"She's still resting Sir but feel free to stay as long as you wish," the kind nurse stated with a smile looking at the sharply dressed wolf.

Trigger set the flowers in a vase next to the large card with many wishes of recovery from her co-workers and friends in the building. He pulled up the doctor's stool that was in the corner of the room and sat by her bedside, his back to the window over-looking the eastern side of Metropolis with a beautiful view and took the doe's hand gently. He hated seeing her like this. He shamed and blamed himself for it. But at least she was alive and she was going to be alright. Her vitals were normal and no deadly internal damage was done.

"Celia, forgive me. I swear I'll get him for this." He growled as the events from this morning played in his head again. But his opened when he felt the little hand that he held grip his finger softly and those green eyes stare up at him with a sleepily drugged smile.

"Mr. Rush, are you alright?" Celia said in a raspy voice. He couldn't believe his ears. She was actually worried about him. This little doe, who was so young and so small, was more concerned for his safety then her own.

"Celia, I'm fine but don't you worry about that. You focus on getting better alright. Otherwise, where will I get an amazing assistant?" he smiled with a chuckle to her hoping to get high spirits out of her.

She giggled and blushed slightly and clutched his paw a bit tighter. "Mr. Rush, I'd do anything for you. I ... do ... anything," she said in a hazy sleepy voice. By the looks of it she was still high on her medication and her anesthesia that surely she didn't mean what she said. Her eyes fluttered as she fell back asleep and her grip loosened on his paw. The wolf just looked at her and smiled. "Good night Celia," he kissed her little hand and laid it gently back on the bed and headed out of her room and off to business.

It was dark out since the sun had set and gone and Metropolis was now a bustling town of nightlife and sin. Neon lights danced in the distance of the downtown area as Trigger drove out on the streets. He plugged in the address he was given and soon pulled up to a valet in front of one of the town's most popular go-go bars and gambling rinks, called Arcana Fire. Trigger had spent plenty of nights here getting a lay and playing a hand but tonight would be different. No merry making would even be in his mind as he walked in and scouted over the area looking for anyone out of the ordinary or conspicuous. Sadly nothing hit him right away. But someone who he knew all too well was here and did catch his attention.

"Hey, Trig! Grab a seat man, you in or not?!" a male hybrid of an absol and luxray -luxsol, shout out to the wolf as he walked over to the poker table.

He gave a nod of acknowledgement and took the luxsol on his offer. The other players greeted him just the same as this was the usual crowd Trigger and his luxsol friend did play with. The dealer continued with the existing game and would allow Trigger to join in next round if he chose.

"I see you and lady luck are still tight as ever Sol. I thought you were quitting," the wolf said with a joking grin, knowing all too well of his friend's gambling hobby, that had now grown into a habit. Needing a drink, Trigger called a bar made over and ordered his usual; a double shot of vodka to help ease his nerves and prepare him for anything that may go down to night and help him gather his demeanor.

"You know me man, I can't quit while I'm ahead," Sol smirked as he looked around the table waiting to see how the ante turned out tonight. "Where've you been man? The old lady got you working hard again?" the luxsol asked in reference to Trigger's occupation. Sol was one of very few people in the world who knew that Trigger was an assassin and who Trigger trusted to share that information with.

"Of course, bills have to get paid, things need to get done," Trigger answered with a laugh.

After a half hour of a game and catching up with his friend Trigger was addressed by a bar maid with a letter.

"Table 15"

-N

Trigger excused himself from the game and followed the bar maid to the table where a provocative leopard sat dressed in a white cocktail dress and dark tented eyeglasses. She gestured for him to seat and shooed his escort away.

"Mister Rush, you have a phone call," and with that she passed him a phone that was already receiving a call.

"Good man Trig, you made it." Nightmare replied on the other end.

"I'm here; now tell me what you want. I know the Havoc Gem was a fake. Pretty decent in appearance but a bold face fake," he barked into the starring down the leopard that sat in front of him with a smug grin on her face smoking a cigarette now. The look on Trigger's face as Nightmare went on about his past few years and conquest to find the Havoc Gems and what was in store, was one of fury and disbelief. His paw clutched the phone and gripped the table as his claws scratched into the lament on the wooden table shredding the beautiful surface. But the wolf had taken his eyes off the leopard in front of him. In the blink of an eye a syringe was in neck and the last words from Nightmare rang in his head. "Time is ticking my friend, tick, tock. Tick, tock." His eyes went blurry and the leopard laid a big red kiss on his grey and white cheek taking her phone back and sauntered her way out of the club.

Leaning against the wall in an upright position and appearing to be sleep, Trigger sat unconscious as the past twenty four hours were blanked from his mind.

"Trig? Hey Trig?" Sol said shaking his friend a few hours later. "Man you okay? Looks like you had one too many tonight buddy." He laughed and helped his friend to his feet seeing his eyes flutter.

"Sol, where am I?" he asked wiping his eyes and looked at the luxsol, regaining his sense of awareness.

Noticing the huge lip print on his cheek, Sol grinned, "Looks like you were getting lucky. That leopard was one hot kitten," he said pulling his friend along to walk out the bar. Night life was dying down as the darkest part of night was ending with the sun not too far behind it.

"Did she leave her number?" he laughed to his friend as they approached the valet and he sent for his car.

"I don't think so. You spent all night with her though."

Trigger's car pulled up and the valet handed him his keys. "Hey man you need a ride?"

"I'm good, I got the bike, finally fixed her after blowing out her starter," the luxsol said waving the helmet he had in his free paw.

"Alright man, be safe, I'll catch you later," the wolf said entering his car and waved after his friend.

"You too," Sol waved heading out to where motorcycles were kept at the front parking of the club.

Trigger drove back to headquarters to his apartment and slumped into bed just as first light hit the sky.
