Tea picked up his diary and started to read it out loud.

"Dear Diary,

"It's been a busy time since that fateful day, indeed. The negotiations that Fox, Jagger, Nicholas, and King Atlas had made caused many changes in The Oasis. At first the demands of The Rebels of The Oasis were forced upon King Atlas, but over the weeks and months, the king realized that the new society that they had in mind could prove to be far more prosperous than the traditions that his father had set. Nearly everyone has a better life these days.

"The most notable change to the society was the construction of The Oasis Village; a city built on the surface of the desert, above The Oasis Castle, which is the new name for the underground portion of The Oasis. The city is still young, but it's already starting to show a lot of promise for those who want to live a normal life. All Oasis traps were removed from the desert and trade routes were opened with neighboring cities.

"Many people still live in The Oasis Castle, as well. It boasts the most well-organized system of compensated sexual slavery on the planet. Many of the former slaves of The Oasis have stayed as slaves in The Oasis Castle for many years, at the end of which they are often gifted with enough money to retire for the rest of their lives. Other slaves are there simply for the thrill of being a slave, itself. In addition, criminals are often sentenced to slavery, which has proved to be a much more effective rehabilitation method than traditional prisons. The Oasis has effectively turned consensual sex slavery into an honest trade that brought as much wealth to their society as any other trade they could provide. The sale of trained slaves as pets to outsiders, alone, is enough to make their economy thrive.

"Perhaps even more dramatic than all that, however, is how the society lost its feline bias. It's not uncommon to see a tigress as a slave and a wolf as a citizen. The Oasis is more successful than ever before, thanks to the diversity and acceptance of all species into all roles of life. Even King Atlas was pleased with the new non-feline members of his council, who brought new and exciting ideas to their home.

"Jagger became a captain of his own high-ranking force of town guards in The Oasis Village. Thanks to capable guards like him and his team, The Oasis is now a very safe place to live. He's quite an influential leader in the village. Many of the younger citizens and, occasionally, the slaves will ask him for advice or ask him to tell stories about his life and what The Oasis used to be like. He's like a mentor and a protector, all rolled up into one big lion.

"Nicholas became Jagger's second in command. He's the most trustworthy guard Jagger has and he has put an end to countless crimes that threatened the progress of The Oasis Village. Nicholas will deny it if you ask him, but behind closed doors, he's Jagger's loyal pet, as well. All of his desire to be a slave is satisfied by Jagger's touch, leaving his mind clear for his work as a guard.

"Benjamin became the captain of The Royal Guard, sworn to protect the king and all of The Oasis Castle. Gone are the days of busywork, running errands for slave preparations and escorting slaves everywhere; another group named The Guardians of the Slaves took over that duty. Now, Benjamin and his guards spend their days keeping peace in the castle. It isn't exciting work, but Benjamin decided that he had had enough excitement for his lifetime. He also doesn't have to work very much, which gives him a lot of free time.

"Benjamin never truly got over what he did to Fox on the day of rebellion and often visits him to give him gifts and apologies. After a while, Fox started finding his visits amusing and now he makes him do strange and silly things to redeem himself. The sight of a big strong lion guard barking like a puppy and chasing his tail is still hard for Fox not to laugh at.

"Sapphire is very happy about her master's reduced work time. She never leaves his side unless she has to and she's always anxious to learn how to be the perfect pet for him. She grew into a girl that Benjamin proudly shows off to everyone he meets; something Saph got used to after learning how to bow and curtsy properly. As soon as the first school was built in The Oasis Village, Benjamin enrolled Sapphire as a student, where she gets straight A's. Her goal is to become a professor at the same school she studies in. It's a little odd for a student, but she refuses to ever leave Benjamin's room in the castle without a collar around her neck.

"Michelle, Benjamin's former pet, still lives her dream of being a great slave trainer. So great, in fact, that she now leads the new training program for voluntary slaves. There are few new slaves in The Oasis who didn't feel her firm, loving paw when they first arrive.

"Rose, the skunk who ran the slave baths in the old Oasis, moved to The Oasis Village as soon as it was built, where she opened her own spa and beauty salon. 'Rose Petals', as she calls it, became the most successful business of its kind in The Oasis. On weekends, she teaches slaves and curious citizens massage therapy and various grooming techniques. And the fur shampoos she sells are just the best!

"Fore was one of the many slaves who moved away from The Oasis once he was free. He moved to a big city and bought his own bar, where he constantly gets slapped for flirting too much with his customers.

"Lars, after being resurrected more than any other creature in the history of The Oasis, lost his job as a guard when many former slaves exposed the ways he had abused his position. It was decided that he was 'too mentally unstable' to work as a guard. No one has heard from him since.

"Charlene and Sheryl, The Slither Sisters, were given back their castle and allowed to live as citizens in Oasis territory. All their servants have returned to them and new ones arrive all the time. Out of captivity, they've returned to their old selves. Their charm is legendary. So much so that they had to start being selective with who they would allow to serve them. Some slaves spend years training, aspiring to become servants to The Slither Sisters.

"Angela, the punisher, held a large tournament a few weeks after the day of rebellion. She swore that she could overpower and outmatch every punisher in The Oasis in any way they chose. The winner of the tournament was going to be the new head of the punishment department. It was an amazing event. She wrestled, she fenced, she even was challenged to break a punisher's will and turn him into a slave in 24 hours time, and one punisher even challenged her to a game of chess to test her wit. The result? Angela now controls every dungeon and commands every punisher. The disciplinary system in The Oasis is now considered over four times more effective than before, though with the lack of forced slavery, it's also four times less busy. The most vicious punishment available in The Oasis Castle is to be sent to Mistress Angela, herself. She loves taming the beasts that they send her way.

"Fyre worked up her courage and asked Fox out on a date after the rebellion; they've been going out routinely ever since. She never was able to ignore the crush she had on Fox and to this day will still blush like an apple when he kisses her. She became one of the first non-feline citizens to have a job in The Oasis Castle, where she now works as a full-time healer instead of just an assistant."

Tea looked up from his diary. "Am I missing anything, Master?"

Fox chuckled, holding one fennec on each of his legs. "Aren't you going to write anything about us?"

Tea grabbed his pen and started to talk as he wrote. "Oh, right!

"Tee and I never leave each other alone for more than a minute. We don't live in a cage anymore, but we still share the same bed. When Master decided we were old enough, we had an official marriage at the throne of King Atlas. Best of all, we'll be having our first kit any month now.

"As for Fox, he owns the only home in The Oasis that's large enough to have both an above ground portion in The Oasis Village and an underground portion in The Oasis Castle. He gets all the gold and wealth he wants directly from King Atlas as an act of contrition for all the suffering he went through in the feeding pits.

"He kept his promise to Tee and me, and we now live with him as his pets. It's a perfect life for all of us. Tee and I finally feel like we're in the right place in life. The three of us look forward to living out the rest of our days together as lovers, pets, husband and wife, and master."

"How was that?" Tea asked.

"Perfect," Fox said.

"But how should we end it? 'The end'? 'And they all lived happily ever after'?" Tee asked.

Fox smiled at his two wonderful pets. "Why end it? Our lives aren't over yet. We have many more happy years to write about."

Tea smiled back at his master, then looked down at his diary and took a deep breath before writing.

"'To be continued'."

Author Notes

I thought I'd use this section to answer some frequently asked questions... that... no one has ever asked me.

How long did Recaptured take?

I honestly don't remember when I started it, but it was more than a year before when I finished it. A lot of emotion was involved with writing my first long story and I often ran into many speed bumps and bouts of writer's block.

Are the characters in your story based off of anyone?

Not all of them. Tea and Tee are both my own characters played on Tapestries MUCK. Fox is based off a man who I've had an actual relationship with in the past who actually has the name "Fox" as his legal name. Jagger is based off of a very good friend of mine who I also met through Tapestries. Fyre is based off of a Tapestries character named Coldfyre, who I've known for many years now. I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize to Lars Hellberg, who is one of my favorite furry authors. The character Lars, who was stabbed four times and killed three times during the story, was created long before I ever heard of Mr. Hellberg and the character has absolutely nothing to do with him at all. Other than that, all of the characters came from the top of my head, although Fore's personality does remind me of a certain sibling of mine.

How did you get the idea to write Recaptured?

It started in Tapestries as a background story for my character, Tea. Tea was kidnapped at a young age by a group of desert lions, but one of the lions (Jagger) helped him escape and hide in a hole in the desert, where he lived and visited Tapestries. Of course, the first thing that changed for the story was the condition of that hole. In Tapestries, it's a multi-floor underground home with an elevator; in Recaptured is a large pothole. And then when I started writing the story, the first thing that came to mind was "maybe I should write a story about having him get caught all over again", hence the name. It was going to be a short story at first, but when I got the idea of adding Fox into it, it just kept stretching until it became what it is now.

You do realize that technically the entire story happened in about a week, right?

I know, that was the biggest hole in my plot. I didn't really recognize it until I was almost done. I even toyed with the idea of randomly putting in a little "And they lived a routine lifestyle for three weeks" kind of thing.

And what about those character names? I mean, you used the name Rose twice.

I know, I know. The only defense I can come up with for my story's lack of perfection is that, technically, it's the first thing I've written on this scale. I've learned a lot and hopefully the next time I try to do something like this, it will be even better... Although, of course, if you liked the story, then thank you!

Just a figure of speech. The tale of Tea and Tee is officially over. Now, as for the tale of The Oasis... well, I don't want to promise anything, but it does seem like a pretty good setting for some short stories.
