The Criminal Chronicles Story 1 - Shayzo Bright

Part 2 - Incarceration

By Ikari Kitsune

Shayzo was pushed roughly down onto the seating in the rear of the prisoner transport van, the shackles around his wrists and ankles were in turn shackled to the seat itself, preventing him from moving at all. His white and black striped fur was covered by an orange jumpsuit now, something he never honestly thought he'd wear in his life, always thinking he'd die before being taken into custody. His head lifted a little bit as he looks across from him at the armed guard who was now sat there staring at him, oh how the hyena yearned to somehow slip his restraints and slit that guard's throat. This train of thought however was broken rather quickly by a boot to the side of his head. Shaking his head he looked over at his second guard who was to be driving.

"I don't like how you were staring at my buddy there," the guard started. "You wanting to kill him you sick fuck? Perhaps you're just a gay boy, wanting a piece of his ass." Shayzo bared his teeth a little bit and growled, earning him another boot to his head as both guards laughed and the one who was standing backed off and climbed down out of the van, closing and locking the door behind him. The hyena cracked his neck a little bit and looked down, closing his eyes as he felt the van's engine turn over and come to life, wobbling in his seat a little bit as they started to move. Death had always fascinated him, even more so in the time he had been killing people, and now here he was on his way to face it first hand, his own death. He kept his head down and his eyes closed for pretty much the entire journey, letting his mind run rampant wherever it led him, escaping his current situation, freeing him for the entire journey and only opening his eyes once he felt the van come to a halt and the engine turn off. His eyes turned to his left, looking towards the rear door and watching the light pour in as the door swing open to reveal the driver who then climbed up inside and over to him. The other guard stood up and raised his weapon, clutching it tightly and taking aim at the hyena while the first guard bent down and began to release the restraints holding their prisoner to the seat. Shayzo was roughly pulled from the van down to the dusty ground outside where he narrowed his eyes and blinked for a few moments, taking account of where he was. It seemed they were in the courtyard of a large dark mansion, high brick walls surrounding them. To Shayzo's interest there seemed to be no barbed wire on the walls or guard towers of any kind, just a few cameras dotted on the outside of the building itself. A few meters away stood a short male lemur in a long white doctor's coat and round-rimmed glasses.

"I can't say this looks much like a prison to me, let alone a place they execute dangerous criminals," Shayzo said, his words directed towards the approaching lemur.

"Very observant of you Mr. Bright, this is not a prison facility at all, it's actually an insane asylum," the lemur replied with a slight grin on his face. "My name is Doctor Zet and I'll be in charge of you while you're here."

"I don't understand, the insanity plea was rejected and I was sentenced to death at my trial."

"Mearly a formality, but a necessary one I'm afraid," Zet said as he adjusted his glasses a little bit. "To the entire world Shayzo Bright is dead, the official report will say you were executed as per the ruling and soon all evidence of your existence will be purged from every record. Let's go inside now shall we."

"Explain this," Shayzo barked as the guards grabbed his arms and began to drag him inside behind the walking doctor.

"My medical research has helped countless people in the world, although unfortunately it requires very unorthodox tests and procedures to be done on live patients. Needless to say, the medical community shunned my work when I first published my desired projects. A breach of human rights they called it," Zet spoke with a shake of his head as they entered the main building. "However a few high-up officials in the government with a bit more vision believe my work had merit and so they set me up with my own facility in secret and supplied me with patients that no-one would miss. Patients like you for instance. Everyone will forget your name, forget you, and you will die down here alone. But know this, your life will ultimately help the greater community and that's why you're here. Your life was spent bringing suffering to others, now you can give life." The lemur began laughing softly as he led the hyena as the two guards down a set of stairs into the basements of the building.

--

Three weeks had passed and Shayzo sat on the mattress covered slab of metal that served as his bed in his dank and dark cell. He was already looking the worse for wear, scars littering his arms where he had been subjected to injection after injection of viruses and experimental drugs. His fur was blackened in places from burns of experimental medical tools and most of his body was caked in dirt from the conditions he was kept in. He raised one paw to his mouth, opening up and running a finger along the false teeth that now adorned his mouth, his real teeth having fallen out due to a side effect of a previous experiment. His other arm hung down at his side, a large manacle around the wrist that was attached to a fat bracket on the wall, the only thing that kept him from trying to attack the guards or the nurse that attended him, but allowed him to move around most of the room. There was a rustling outside, a jangling of keys and then a groaning noise as his cell door was unlocked and swung out, dim light from the corridor leaking into the room. From outside stepped a female skunk, fur softly shining in the dim light, tiny glasses perched on her muzzle and a white nurse's outfit tight on her body. This was Natasha Curt, the nurse that Doctor Zet had take care of him, bring his meals and administer his medication. The door clanged shut behind her and he saw she was carrying a small tray with a plastic cup of water and two white pills. Shayzo had learned what this meant already, they were muscle relaxants and mild sedatives to make sure he was subdued enough for the guards to take him to either a psychoanalysis session or an experimentation session and keep him subdued throughout the whole thing. She silently held the tray out towards him, keeping her eyes on him as he reached out and took the pills, popping them in his mouth and then downing the water, knowing what would happen if he didn't do it himself. He turned his eyes up towards the skunk as he sat there, looking at her, studying her. He knew Zet abused her while she was here, physically at least as the hyena had seen her sporting bruises and black eyes from time to time.

"Why....why do you do this?" Shayzo slurred a little bit as the pills began to kick in. Natasha looked a little shocked at this question, they had barely said two words to each other up to now.

"I....I don't like doing this," she said, looking a little said. "But I have to." That was the last thing he heard as he slumped over, his body relaxing completely as the skunk exited and the two guard came up, unlocking him from his shackle and dragging him away.

--

It was now six months since he had been locked up away from the world in the depths of the asylum and Shayzo was once more sat on what was laughably called his bed. His body looked even worse now, scars and needle marks covering both of his legs too and several very large scars on his chest where the doctor had cut into him to examine organs. There was also now a small metal socket on his upper back, a device that had eliminated the need for more places to be found on his body for injections to be made. This piece of technology that was being trialed on him was used so that any injection could be made into the same spot and achieved maximum spread into his body without the worry for constant scarring of the patients body, even if it was too late for Shayzo himself. Lifting his left paw, he placed it on the one object that he had begun to like actually, the mask that now covered most of his muzzle up. A past experiment on his lungs had left him unable to properly process air in his body and required him to need a supply of 90% pure oxygen to keep him alive. This mask had been designed to do just that, golden rivets covered a thin red-coloured metal sheet then completely surrounded his muzzle, and on the lower left and lower right of the mask sat golden metal tubes that contained the electronics that filtered the air that went in and pumped the oxygen-rich gas into the inside of the mask. It gave the hyena a very evil look and made his breathing louder than normal, an effect Shayzo actually enjoyed even if the medical reason for wearing it was not so good. He lifted his head as he heard movement outside the door, keys moving in the lock before the door swung out and Natasha entered his room, the door clanging shut behind her. As usual she carried a tray with his pills on it.

"Good morning Tasha," Shayzo said, his voice was deep and echoed beneath the mask, "what is it today?" Over the months the two had started talking a lot more each time she came to see him with meals and pills.

"Good morning Shayzo, Doctor Zet wants to have a sit down with you, talk a little bit with you again," she replied, smiling a little bit. Shayzo nodded and looked to her, then frowned beneath the mask as he saw the long gash across her cheek.

"How did you get that?" he said, sounding pissed off.

"Zet....I brought him tea earlier and forgot to add sugar. He...threw the cup at me." She placed a paw on her cheek softly. "Sometimes I wish...sometimes I wish he was dead and I could get out of here." This was a sentiment that Shayzo had learned she had harbored for quite a long time, hating the doctor so much, but she couldn't do anything about it. The doctor had sworn that if she ever tried to quit he would see to it that her family paid for it, and they both knew he had the government connections to follow through on that threat. She sighed and held out the tray towards the hyena. "Please take the pills." Shayzo reached out and took the pills in his paw, reaching up to unbuckle the mask for a second so he could take the pills.

"I wish he was dead to you know," Shayzo said before holding his breath and releasing the mask, popping the pills in his mouth.

"I feel so helpless here sometimes..." the skunk said, turning away for a second. Shayzo took this opportunity as fast as it had presented itself, silently spitting the pills from his mouth down onto the sheets of his bed before grasping the water and swallowing, making it look like he'd taken the pills, his body starting to shudder as he needed breath. He quickly buckled his mask back on, taking several deep breaths. Natasha looked back at him and watched as his eyes narrowed a little bit and his body began to relax, slumping back against the wall. She turned and knocked on the door which then opened and the guards walked in, grabbing Shayzo's arms and dragging him from the cell and out into the corridor. Silently Shayzo smirked beneath his mask, staying just as limp as when he was on the pills, watching through half-closed eyes as they pulled him down the corridor, up two flights of stairs and then down another corridor. They knocked on a door and then opened it, entering Doctor Zet's office where they deposited the seemingly drugged hyena into the chair on the other side of the table to where Zet sat. Natasha stood to one side of the room as one guard stayed inside and the other stood outside after closing the door.

"Mr. Bright, so good to see you today," Zet said as he adjusted his glasses, opening a small binder on the table and laying a couple of pens to the side.

"Morning....Doctor...." Shayzo replied, in his mock-drugged state, rolling his eyes a little bit and dropping his head every now and again.

"I'm going to ask you a simple question to start us off today and I want you to answer with complete honesty. If there were no guards here, just you and me in this room, what would you want to do?" The lemur started his questioning right to the point, as always, fascinated with how criminal minds worked.

"I'd....I'd....torture....kill..." Shayzo tried to say.

"What was that, speak up my friend?" Zet said, leaning closer a little.

"I'd torture you and then kill you doctor," Shayzo said, snapping his head upright and staring right into Zet's eyes, before suddenly standing up, grabbing a pen from the table and driving it through the doctor's paw and into the table. The guard behind him sprung forward but Shayzo kicked back, launching the chair into the guard, forcing him to the wall. Grabbing the other pen within reach, Shayzo spun round and shot forwards, plunging the item into the guard's neck like a knife, killing him almost instantly. This had happened in just a few seconds, and just one second later the door flew open and the other guard came bursting in to respond to the doctor's cries. Without even having to think about it Shayzo grabbed the tazer from the dead guards body as it fell to the ground, pushing it into the second guard's chest and causing him to spasm uncontrollably before the hyena reached up and took the jerking head in both paw and twisting, breaking the guard's neck and dropping him. Turning round slowly his eyes focused on the form of Zet, still trying to pry his paw from the desk so he could reach his phone, then he looked over to Natasha, turning to her for a moment. "My dear Tasha, you might want to leave the room for a while...or stay if you wish to see the doctor get what's coming to him." The skunk was visibly shaking, looking down at the two dead guards before looking back up at the hyena, then to the doctor. She looked to the door, looking like she was about to leave, then stopped and took a step back, leaning back against the wall. Shayzo laughed softly, turning his head towards the doctor and reaching back to the office door. "Now doctor, what was it I said I would do if there were no guards to stop me?" The hyena gave an evil grin under his mask as he pulled the office door closed, shutting them all inside.
