Cut the Rope (Pacifism part 2)

The lion pulled out a cigarette out of the package, and slid it between his fingers, feeling the paper material in between his agile claws. "I can't believe the Exorcists were thrown off its horse by a bunch of kids." The lion thought bitterly. He pulled out a lighter which flicked to life when he opened the top. The lion grinned to himself, and lit his cigarette. He blew out a puff of white smoke that floated to the top of the office he was sitting in and the smoke gradually filled the room. The lion coughed as the smoke entered his lungs, and clicked a button. A loud hum filled the room, and the shuffling of vents made it clear that the lion clicked on the ventilation system. Everything about the office was precise, and symmetrical. The walls carved out of granite, and the rich red carpet that laid the floor made the place feel like a pristine hotel. The ironic thing was it belonged to one of the most powerful gangs of the century.

The Exorcists.

The lion, leaning back on his office chair, stuck two of his paws on the desk. "Ahhh, much better." He chuckled to himself, and took another puff of his cigarette, taking in all the fumes. The lion started to laugh manically. "The more I think about the girl and the boy leaving my ship, the more I start to hate myself." Then the lion heard a sudden noise. The wooden door across the room moved slightly, and a voice said, "I am here to talk to you." The lion reached down a drawer in his desk and dug though until he wrapped his index finger around the weapon of choice. Taking the pistol out and putting it onto the desk with his index finger on the trigger, the lion told the person who knocked on his door to come in.

A doberman with a large scar on his left eye walked in with a scowl on his face. Wincing at the scar, the lion put down the pistol on his desk. The lion knew the doberman would not be a threat. The doberman's eyes focused on the pistol. "What the hell is with the pistol? Were you expecting someone else?"

Sighing, the lion waved the question away. "Yes, and it is none of your concern." The lion snapped his fingers grumpily. A human with a chain around his neck walked in through the door. The human was well fed with black hair, and dark brown eyes. One of his brown eyes was faded slightly, and a cut was noticeable across the pupil. He was blind in one of his eyes.

"I told you to put down a chair beforehand didn't I? Now do your job as you are supposed to slave." Nodding apologetically, the human hurryingly grabbed a chair, and silently put it down. The doberman was amused by this, and sat down as the human walked out of the door.

"I didn't know you had a slave. Where did you get the man?" The doberman asked as the lion opened up another compartment in his desk and pulling out a bottle of wine with two glass cups. He grabbed the cigerete in his mouth and flicked it into a nearby trash can.

"I found him snooping around in our compartment. He is a clever one for being a slave." The lion said snottily as he started to dip the bottle ever so slightly, and tilting the glass forward to make sure not a drop of the wine was lost. The doberman winced at the lion's comment.

I am a mercenary. I should not even be here with this cruel lion. The only thing he does is pay well. The doberman said to himself while watching the lion sip his wine. Noticing that the lion was being stared at he said, "You look confused. Is there a problem?"

The doberman looked up at the lion and said quickly to avoid further questioning, "Nothing of importance."

"Well then, let's talk about how we are going to get the teen that you let escape. This is unacceptable! It left a black mark on the Exorcists history! We are supposed to be the most feared everywhere!"

Slamming his fist down on the desk, the lion watched as the wine glass shook slightly, and fell to the floor along with the purple liquid inside of it. The lions face turned into a scowl. "If we don't get a handle on the situation, we will become like that wine glass, broken and discarded!"

The doberman nodded at all the right places, not wanting to take the lion deeper into a simmering rage. After all, what good is a incompliant client? The lion kept continuing on his rage until there was nothing more to talk about. The lion's eyes turned from looks that could kill to a more relaxing posture. Leaning back into a more casual position then his fit of rage position, the lion put his posture together in a more patient manner. Then the doberman had a question since the lion no longer desired the need to rage.

"What are we going to do about the golden retriever woman that is part of the Forbidden Counsel?"

The lion grinned, "You can say their real name you know."

The doberman gave the lion a confused look, but the lion didn't catch the doberman's facial expression. The lion snapped his fingers, and the slave came in with a dust rag, and a mini broom. "Please wipe up the mess that I made." The human nodded, bending over slightly to get the shattered glass by the floor. The human glanced over at the doberman and gave him a look of desperation.

The doberman, not wanting to be associated with the slave, quickly acted like he was mesmerized by a painting at a wall.

The lion pushed the doberman back into reality with his words. "Now, back to the statement at hand." The lion purred as he reached back into his desk to pull out another wine glass.

The lion slowly poured himself the glass of wine. "Ahhh where were my manners before. Would you like a glass?"

The doberman shook his head, afraid that the lion would slip poison into his glass. The leader of the Exorcists has a habit of letting his mercenaries "disappear" mysteriously. One day they are working for the leader of the gang, the next either in the bottom of the ocean or worse, thrown into a desert in the middle of who the hell knows. The doberman bit his tongue realizing that a single move could throw the lion back into a rage, and that he could end up like one of the poor bastards in the desert if he didn't talk with the lion right.

"Now, back to about the Forbidden Council as people like to call it. The Forbidden Council is not its real name. It goes under a different name, but doesn't wish the people of the Capitol to know about it." The lion starred into the doberman's eyes as he said this and the doberman didn't want to miss a single word. Even the slave was hanging onto the lion's words. "After the Forbidden Council was created in 2049 after the rise of shape shifters, it started to call itself more appropriate names. It went under many names. The real name of the Forbidden Council is Fate. It has never changed names after the night that the rebel shape shifters attacked their HQ. The people inside Fate thought it was exactly that, fate."

The lion stopped talking for a moment as he sipped his wine greedily. Even though the lion was charismatic, he was still just as dangerous as stories and rumors perceive him to be.

"What will be the turning point in this war, is to capture the HQ of Fate itself and ironically I have many agents inside Fate that I bribed for this purpose. The whole system is tearing itself inside out, and I am the puppeteer of the whole plan!" The lion said while manically laughing. His eyes darted around freakishly, and his tail wagged back and forth like a dog finding a long lost bone. He was amused by his own plans. The doberman felt his stomach turn inside out.

Then he stopped laughing, and his gaze once more turned dark. "We just need someone to create a message that the Exorcist's can't be screwed with. And that kid that escaping is just what we need for such a plan." The lion's grin showed many fangs, and the doberman felt the lion's aurora change. The lion's aurora is turned into a "win at no matter what lose" look. The doberman felt the blood in his veins go cold, and a pounding feeling in his head. Feeling a stabbing pain at the bottom of his left leg, he looked down to see the slave putting a syringe with orange material into his blood stream. The doberman growled furiously, but it was too late. The liquid was already traveling though his blood stream, and around his body, probing into him no matter what the costs.

"Wha-what the hell are you doing!?!" The doberman said as his head started to feel dizzy, and he tried to reach out and grab the lion, but couldn't and only swiped air.

"Only an experiment. You will enjoy your newest edition to your body when I am done." The lion said as he pored himself another glass of wine. You will be the envy of all the Capitol, and we will rule it together, permanently."

The doberman reached up and felt the top of his forehead, realizing it was numb when he rubbed his claw over it. The doberman didn't realize how hard he had scratched himself as a red liquid slowly fell down his forehead and he fell over with not enough strength to get up. Trying to make his body do something of importance, the doberman struggled against the drug that was put into him, but could not fight it. Eventually, he stopped fighting the drug and the liquid slowly took over his body, making him fall into a forced sleep.

The lion got up off his chair, and walked over to the doberman, slowly pacing over and savoring his new captive."You will be a nice addition to my army when I am done." The lion motioned at the slave, "Take him down to the scientists in the labs. I want experiment 21 done on him quickly."

The slave nodded, and for being surprisingly looking less muscular then the average human, lifted up the doberman like he was a twig, carrying him down to the labs.

"Hey Kyle, wake up! It's time for school!"

Rubbing his eyes and leaning over to touch his feet, Kyle got out of bed and walked downstairs. His grumpy mood started to take over him as he wobbled down the stairs towards the kitchen, wondering why the hell he was woken up so early. He saw Rev cooking breakfast, hunched over a stove working gracefully. Her hands moved with precise speed as she cracked eggs, cooked bacon, and chopped vegetables.

Kyle smelled the air. A delicious smell of bacon and eggs hit his nose and he started too droll. He cursed his newly tweaked senses for taunting him with smelling items with a new zest. Looking at Rev, Kyle noticed a difference in Rev's posture then what he saw on the ship when she saved him. Rev was dressed in short pants and a tee shirt. It was the first time Kyle ever saw Rev look so casual. She was leaned over a frying pan, scrubbing it gently with a sponge. A plate was set on a wooden table with the steaming food. Ever since that day that Rev gave him the potion that changes you into a shape shifter, Kyle has been experimenting with his new senses. In school, PE has never been easier. With his newly found "animal" reflexes, and speed he can run circles around the others with breath taking speed.

Why the hell is she here now? Kyle thought to himself as he looked out the window that was close to the table, not wanting to be noticed by Rev. Kyle's house was small, but it was roomy. The door that led into the house was connected to a living room, and the living room had stairs that led up to the top where Kyle and his parents slept. Kyle's bed room had all the necessities of a teenager. A dresser which he put his assorted items on and a closet that he kept his assorted shirts and pants in.

Kyle stretched backward again and forward touching his feet once more. He felt his spine stretch against his back, and his muscles relaxed. He yawned. "It's not even a weekday. It's only Saturday." Kyle said while walking over to the table and sitting down, grabbing a fork, and munching down the breakfast of bacon and eggs while listening for Rev to start speaking.

"I know it's a Saturday. I am talking about training for controlling your new powers. You see, while your parents are out working their jobs in the Capitol, I get to watch you. Ever since you told your parents about you "acquiring" shape shifting capabilities, the Capitol assigned a body guard to you. It's unique to see a teen acquire powers so easily, and ironically they choose me to watch you until your guardians come home. I will be able to train you during these times."

Kyle glared at her with a mouth full of bacon. "If you hadn't given me the powers in the first place, we would not be here right now. Besides, I don't need training in the first place. I can fully control all my powers perfectly. And don't say guardians. They are my true parents." Kyle said with a smart tone. Kyle never truly had a family. When his parents divorced, it felt like part of him was chopped in two pieces. Kyle now refers to his grandma and grandpa as his true parents instead of guardians.

Rev shrugged, and pointed at Kyle's back. "Then why is there a tail poking out of your butt hmm? If you could control your powers, that would not happen." Kyle blushed and reached back grabbing his tail, and wrapped it around his stomach. "I have my powers under control. You just triggered them. That's all." Kyle said until he bit his tongue on fangs that formed in his mouth unexpectedly. He yipped in pain and started to rub his tongue.

"Perfectly under control huh?" Rev said while snorting. "By the way put some clothes over your briefs and tee shirt look. I don't really like seeing you almost half naked in the house. You remind me of the homeless people that sit outside the Capitol begging for money."

"I like briefs. They are comfortable and what right gave you to say what I should do?" Kyle added an offensive tone to his words. He does not like to be told what to do, especially in his own house.

"When you are under my supervision, it is my rules." Rev said while shooting him a glare and pointing a nasty looking kitchen knife in his general direction. "I never asked to be your body guard. It just worked out that way."

Kyle, displeased about having to be watched over, crammed down the rest of his breakfast and stomped upstairs and into his room where he put on a tee shirt and jeans over his green briefs and white tee shirt. He quietly cursed Rev as he slipped on his clothes. "Why does she have to watch me? All she ever does is command me. I do owe her though for saving me on the airship. Maybe I should just play along for a little while..."

Kyle thought over what he was going to do about Rev and ran back downstairs catching his claws on the soft carpet of the floor. "I can't show any emotions if I don't want to transform randomly." Kyle pondered as he quickly turned off his embarrassment of being harassed by Rev. Kyle's claws quickly shrank back to toenails and Kyle continued downstairs. "Rev was right. Emotions do control powers." When Kyle got downstairs, he was surprised to see that Rev cleaned the table well. All the plates were stacked neatly and cleaned spotlessly. "Shows how much she is a perfectionist." Kyle thought as he took an extra piece of delicious bacon on the counter. He started to walk out of the kitchen and into the family room with his tiger tail wagging happily.

As he entered the family room, a different sent caught his noise and he poised his fighting position which was stick both fists up and close his eyes waiting for the pain to come. Then he heard a faint sound of something being thrown and Kyle opened his palm to catch a very sharp dagger, and to see a woman with black hair and casual clothes running at him. She extended a dagger similar to his own.

"Rev! What the hell are you doing!?!? I just changed and now you want to get blood on my new clothes?" Kyle quickly jumped back, almost nicking his right side on his newly formed claws when he fiercely jumped back.

"It's training. Opponents never wait for the opponent to be closed. They always attack unexpected. Oh and this is the start of your training so you better keep on your toes."

"Well you definitely caught me vulnerable. Now let's see how could of a swordsmen you are." Kyle stabilized his stance, and ran at Rev with full force. Rev easily dodged the swipe, and noticing an open spot, went in for Kyle's chest. Instead of slicing it menacingly, she used her kneecap and with precise aim, hit him in the stomach forcefully.

The air escaped from Kyle quickly and Kyle stumbled backwards, shaken by the sudden force of the blow. "What the hell was that for? You could have killed me?!"

"I could have killed you faster if I cut you with the dagger. An enemy shows no mercy so neither will I." Rev ran at Kyle with speed and agility, dodging each swipe that Kyle took at her.

"You are just wasting energy. If you keep taking meaningless swings at me, you will run out of energy and the enemy will easily over power you." Rev said as she locked swords with Kyle. Kyle blocked the blow but was taken aback by Rev's inhuman strength.

"Shut up about my will!" Kyle said though clenched teeth. Sweat dripped down his face, and onto the floor. His breathing grew harder as Rev started to push Kyle towards the wall. When Kyle felt his back be moved against the wall, he knew it was over. The fight was won by Rev. She had over powered him. That was until Kyle noticed a weak spot. Rev's legs were open.

Kyle lashed out with his foot and kicked Rev's legs out from under her and she toppled to the floor with a bang. Kyle pointed the dagger triumphantly at Rev's throat. "You may have strength, but I have trickery." Kyle said grinning while his right fang poked out of his lip tauntingly.

Smiling slightly to herself, Rev said "You improvise well. But I have tricks up my sleeve as well. Rev dived at Kyle and reached out her arms to him with a dagger extended toward Kyle's eye. Kyle dodged what would have been a fatal blow if Rev was trying to kill him.

Kyle then noticed a shiny object hurtling towards him at a fast pace. Kyle's newly formed reflexes moved into action and Kyle dived out of the way only to hear a sound of wood being struck with metal. Rev threw her dagger at him. Good thing Kyle moved out of the way.

Looking back at the dagger and then back at Rev, Kyle's mouth dropped down. "Now she is trying to kill me." Kyle thought bitterly as Rev cocked her head to the side and said, "What?" In a very nonchalant voice.

Kyle was still thinking of words to say, but he shook his head and charged at Rev with full force and stuck his dagger out like he was going to stab her. Readying herself for the stab, Rev shifted her position, but Kyle had another plan. Rev lashed out at him with her fight foot and that was what Kyle wanted her to do. He tackled her to the ground, and put his dagger up to her throat.

"I win." Kyle said gloatingly.

Rev gave him a glare, "It's only because I went easy on you. I wanted to see what you would do so I threw the dagger at you. You did well in the circumstance. From now on whenever I babysit you (Kyle gave her a look that could kill a person when she said babysitting) we will spar extensively. You will learn all the moves I know and you will be trained well."

Kyle nodded and got off Rev. She got up and brushed her clothes off. "You did very well during training. Better than I had expected from a rookie like yourself."

Rev walked off and opened the door, letting in the warm air from outside. "I am going out to get some things. You stay put and don't cause any trouble while I am gone. I don't want to come to the house and see the damn thing on fire."

With that, she closed the door and walked out, not even telling Kyle where she would be going. "Well now what the hell am I supposed to do..." Kyle said in his mind with a very sarcastic tone.

Kyle noticed the gleaming dagger that was stuck the drywall of his house. He walked over to it, and pulled it out of the wall. "Hopefully, she will come back with supplies to fix this hole." Kyle thought dryly as he noticed that there was also a note that was wrapped with string around the dagger. The note said....

Getting stuff to replace the drywall. Be back soon! As I said before, don't try to burn the house down.

Sincerely,

Rev

P.S, why don't you take a walk in the forest while I am gone? It will help calm your mind.

Kyle read the finally P.S slowly, hoping that he did not skip a word. Kyle soon started to put the pieces together. Rev was probably tricking him. It was all revolving around the training.

Kyle grinned to himself. "Fine, if she wants me to fall for the trick, then fall for it I will. She will be surprised when I trick her."

Kyle, pleased with his plan, put on a hoody over his shirt and walked out the door. Feeling a cool breeze hit him as he opened the door, he sniffed the air. It was beautiful. Fall at the Capitol was looking better than ever. The trees changed color and orange, red, yellow, and brown each collided with each other on the decorated trees. Mother Nature did her duty for fall.

Reaching up towards his mouth, Kyle pressed his finger on his teeth. He felt well sharpened daggers close to his finger. His fangs were still there. Kyle sighed slightly and kept walking toward the forest behind his house. The forest covered half his yard, stretching wide and far for a couple of blocks. He lived in a more rural part of the Capitol and Kyle loved it. When he was little, he would climb trees and that would always give him the overall advantage during tag.

The memories of childhood were still locked inside of his mind as he kept walking. A chill went through his spine as he pushed a bush away to enter the forest's enchanted depts. Watching as the sun disappeared from the brush and as shadows started to form where he stood, Kyle started to get a strange feeling that he was being watched. It was almost like the forest was real and moving.

Kyle started to walk in the forest, enchanted by the spell it was putting on him and letting the memories rush back into him. He touched a tree's trunk and watched as his finger nails turned to claws. He started to claw aimlessly into the tree. "It's been a long time since I visited. Sorry to keep you waiting." Kyle mumbled to himself and then he felt reality click back in and saw what he had scratched into the tree. The two words "Why me" were scratched into the bark, imprisoned there. Kyle shook his head, and discarded the tree from his mind. He just wanted to forget the past and started to walk deeper into the woods.

After about 30 minutes trekking through branches and dodging poison ivy, Kyle noticed a strange light dangling out of reach near a tree line. He started to get curious and ran towards the light, feeling the power in his agility. Kyle jumped, the power in his legs accelerating to their most powerful, and almost doubled over when he hit the ground. Kyle started to chase the light in the distance. Like a small signal getting stronger, Kyle noticed the light was also getting brighter and when he got even closer, the tree line started to move outward. He was coming towards a clearing.

Excited by his new discovery, Kyle turned his run into a sprint and watched as the tree line widened more and more until finally he ended up in a circle completely covered by trees. Kyle looked around in amazement and started to walk around what felt like the center of the forest he was in. "In all my years I have traveled this forest, I have never seen anything like this." Kyle said to himself excitingly as he looked around the forest. The "forest crater" was alive and abuse with excitement. There were insects humming a tune in the near distance, signaling each other that there is an intruder in their territory. I fox quickly jumped from tree branch to tree branch swiftly, looking for a place to lie down in the mid day sun. A clean cut stump was in the middle which destroyed the symmetry of the trees. Kyle then remembered something. He had been to this place before.

The forest was not what he saw during his childhood, it was alive now more than ever. A monarch butterfly flew by gracefully, and turned around, landing on Kyle's finger gracefully. "Shouldn't you be gone butterfly? Winter is going to be coming in full force soon. If you procrastinate much longer, you could die." Kyle said mockingly while examining the butterfly closely. Kyle started to feel like a child again, experiencing everything in a different way. Kyle would always talk with the animals and insects when he was small, wondering if they would ever talk back. As Kyle's mind started to wonder, he had a flashback and his mind was pulled into the past.

Kyle remembered himself as a young boy, his blond hair flowing in the breeze of the spring time weather. Kyle was sitting on the same stump that was there on present day, minding his own business. His parents were arguing again so he took the time to slip out of the house and enjoy the fresh clean spring air of the forest. Kyle was only 6 at the time and had no idea about shape shifters until that day he snuck out.

"Stupid animal! That is what you get for biting my ankle!" Said an unfamiliar voice that was close to Kyle's position. A move of a limb was heard a yipping sound could be heard in the forest. Looking towards the sound of the noise, Kyle saw a green fox jump out from a bush being followed by two teenagers. One had black hair and orange piercing eyes while the other had very untidy red hair with slight buck teeth and grey eyes. The one with black hair was clutching a stick and taking mad swings at the green fox. The fox dodged most of the blows until a sickening crack said otherwise and the fox fell limp on the ground.

"Damn, the fox put up a fight." The black haired teenager said as he leaned down to tend to a claw mark on his ankle that was bleeding. The boy leaned down and started to patch up the wound, carefully running his hand over the mark. Then the red haired one pointed over to Kyle. "Hey man that kid is on our territory." And the black haired teen sneered at Kyle.

"You lost pipsqueak because this is our territory. That fox got what was coming to him when he ran and bit my ankle. Now if you want to end up like the fox, I suggest you bolt." The teen said boldly as he pointed a threatening finger at Kyle. The two teens laughed gloat fully at each other, savoring their victory over the forest. Quietly sitting and waiting for the events to unfold itself, the forest didn't move a branch. Not even a spring leaf crossed the dirt on the ground.

Kyle just sat there, looking for something in his pocket until he reached his hand around what he wanted. His hand cupped five rocks and a homemade slingshot. His father gave it to him in case of emergencies and this was a defendant emergency. Kyle has never used the slingshot until now. The teens started to get restless, wondering what the hell a small child was going to have in his pockets.

"H-hey what are you doing?" The red haired teen said as Kyle started to pull out a slingshot. His tone was less dominant and more retained. "Put that down before someone gets hurt."

The black teen started to walk over to Kyle, but Kyle put the rock in the rubber band and fired. The rock whooshed at amazing speed, but missed the teens and hit a nearby tree with a grueling smack that echoed throughout the whole woods. The black haired teen started to walk to Kyle cautiously, and then Kyle noticed something. The red haired and black haired teens both had fangs. Kyle noticed when one of the teens opened their mouth to talk to the other.

"Who or what are you?" Kyle asked curiously in a child like voice. He had never heard of shape shifters and the stories of vampires quickly probed itself into Kyle's mind. The fangs looked exactly like vampires.

The black haired teen grinned, "You're a cleaver little one. We are called shape shifters. Don't tell me your mom or dad has never told you about us?"

Kyle shook his head. The teens seemed to be amused by this. Letting curiosity pull him into questions, Kyle slowly put down the slingshot. "Why did you hurt the green fox?" Kyle asked as the teens started to circle him like animals stalking prey. This time is was the red haired teen that would speak.

"Because as we said before, we do not like people within our territory. This forest is our home and you newcomers snooping around shouldn't belong here. We dogs like to destroy snoopers in packs." The red haired boy looked over to his friend and winked. The friend snickered viciously, showing his pointed fangs that glowed eerily white.

"What do you mean by dogs?"

"We will show you."

Kyle watched in awe as a tail perked up out of the black haired boy's pants and his shirt started to bulge outward due to the fur that was now forming. His nose moved outward and a muzzle started to form. Laughing wickedly, the black haired shape shifter watched as his body morphed into a beast form. It was almost like a nightmare for Kyle, watching as all the myths about people able to shift from man to beast became true. Watching as the boy's hands became claws, Kyle had to suppress a scream and could not suppress it much longer as the kid's hands turned to paws. When the transformation was over, Kyle could not even recognize the kid.

"I AM a shape shifter. This is what I have become." The teen said as he leaned towards Kyle, his eyes glittering in anger. He had the body of a wolf, but a mind of a human. The shape shifter had black fur and a white chest which heaved in and out with every breath he took. His claws were the size of knifes and they made a scratching sound when he moved. Hearing a shuffling sound behind the wolf, Kyle looked around the wolf to see the other shape shifter, in human form, looking at the green fox at his feet that was shifting around and trying to get up.

"Boss, the fox is moving around. What do you wish to do with this pathetic creature?" The red haired boy said while picking it up by the scruff of its neck.

The black wolf turned around and said cruelly, "Dispose of the creature, I do not wish to see it in my sight. That is what the shape shifter fox gets for coming into our territory."

The teen nodded and right before he was about to throw the fox, the fox jumped from the teens grasp and dived at the teen that was holding it. The wolf that was by Kyle ran to help the teen and Kyle took the chance to grab his slingshot once more. This time he would be sure he wouldn't miss.

Taking a rock and putting it in the rubber band, Kyle moved the band back and felt the material turn strong. He knew the rock would have enough force to at least leave a welt. Kyle aimed at the red haired teen and fired a single rock. The pellet hit the red haired teen in the cheek and he howled with rage as he reached up to his face to feel a patch of skin growing angry. The fox that he was holding fell limp to the ground and laid there with his eyes closed peacefully.

The newly transformed wolf turned around angrily and dived at Kyle. Aiming he slingshot carefully once more, Kyle took aim and fired the shot. The rock hit with a smack against the forehead of the charging wolf and he yipped in pain put grabbed hold of Kyle's arm tightly.

"That was a mistake kid." Said the wolf as he rose his deadly claws ready to strike until the green fox from before jumped up on its hind legs like the wolf and ran over shielding Kyle. Grabbing the wolf's arm, he twisted it until a crack was heard and the wolf yelled in pain. The fox then yelled. "IF ANY OF YOU COME TO HURT THIS BOY AGAIN, I WILL PERSONALLY RIP YOUR HEART OUT!"

The wolf pack got the message and bolted. Only a trail of dust could be seen as the wolves ran away into the forest and never looking back. The fox offered a hand to Kyle who was speechless. First a wolf tries to rip him to shreds and now a fox is trying to help him? This is insane.

Extending a hand anyway, Kyle grasped the fox's hand and felt the warmth come back to him.

"What is your name?" Kyle asked curiously as the fox then let go off his hand and Kyle felt semi off balance.

"My name is Streak. " The fox said while pointing to an arrow that ran from his neck down to his tail tip. It was white so it clashed with his fur.

Kyle blinked a few times, trying to get in all the information. "So since you are a fox, does that mean you can turn into a human as well?"

"Yes, I will show you."

In a matter of 10 seconds, the fox reversed the transformation and became himself in human form. He had jet black hair and one of the strips of hair had a green line moving through it gracefully. Streak's eyes were also green.

"So what do you think?"

"Amazing." Kyle said while looking for any sign of a patch of fur. None were in sight. Kyle also realized that Streak was two years older than Kyle.

Once Kyle and Streak sat down and talked for a while about how their life was going and why they were in the forest, they both learned about each other. Streak learned that Kyle was in the forest because he wanted to get away from his parents while Streak was in the forest because he was looking for food for his tribe that lives deep in another forest far away. Streak explained that shape shifters are people that have genetically modified genes and are able to shift into animals whether feral or human like and how shifting can give you interesting traits and abilities.

Streak demonstrated how easily it was to climb trees and run extremely fast for a long period of time in his human form. Kyle was amazed as he watched Streak jump from tree to tree enjoying himself. As nightfall grew closer, Kyle thanked Streak for saving him while Streak thanked him as well. The cool night air brushed against their skin, signaling that it was time for them to part. After several hours, it seemed that Kyle and Streak both became friends and trusted each other.

"How come you can trust me so easily? Usually my kind are portrayed as beggars and thieves by you normal humans." Streak said while he jumped up on a tree branch to see the landscape. The only thing Kyle could see was his tail dangling lightly from the branch.

"Well you still are human, just with a twist. Plus I never had a friend before that would listen to my stories of my life. I mostly just keep quiet in school because I am too busy thinking about life with a normal family." Kyle said while smiling.

"I never had a friend outside our pack. Most packs keep with themselves while others don't usually get along with the others very well. Sorry about stopping the conversation short but I have to go back to my pack. It was nice chatting with you. Maybe our paths will cross again sometime."

And with that, the tree branch quivered slightly and a green blur jumped from tree to tree. Kyle watched in awe and sadness as his friend jumped away probably never to be seen again in Kyle's childhood.

Then Kyle in present time felt a jerk at his insides as he realized he was sitting on the very stump he found the green fox. The green fox was his only friend then, but when his parents divorced and now that he lived with his grandparents, he has forgotten about his past life and he has gotten many more friends. The green fox quickly faded from his mind while Kyle was busy trying to heal scars of the past.

Until now.

"If Rev didn't make me walk in the forest, I would have never recalled these memories I wish to forget."

_ _ Kyle picked up a stick and threw it forcefully. Watching it fly through the air and land with a soft clunk at the ground bellow, Kyle started to feel tears coming back to him. The memories started to come back to him until he heard a click of a nearby branch.

Kyle looked over and yelled, "Whose there?"

It grew quiet again, nothing but the sound of birds chirping could be heard. Kyle looked into the bushes though to see two green eyes peering at him then when Kyle blinked, they disappeared.

Kyle shivered, but heard another click closer this time. The intruder was coming closer and closer until Kyle heard the sound of running.

Kyle steadied himself for the person who came into his forest. Hearing the sound of a sword being pulled out of a sheath, Kyle braced himself and watched as a green fox jumped out of the bushes. The fox's jet black hair flowing in the breeze and a green line formed smoothly across a strip of hair.

Kyle held his breath and he psychologically felt like something grabbed his stomach and shook it hard. The blade the fox had would have hit Kyle if he had not dived out of the way and it seemed like the fox recognized Kyle as well.

"Kyle? Is that you?"

"Streak?"

And they stood in silence as they contemplated what to do next.
