My fists unclenched, as I relaxed my body. I was a mess. I knew, even despite my appearance, that they knew it too. For once, I hated myself.

I kept turning, being drawn by the smells of everything. My head began to tilt forwards, towards the guy ahead of me. As I slowly began to go lower, I smacked myself. You are not about to sniff this guy's ass! I yanked myself away from the crowds, moving down an alley.

I didn't even want to smell. The entire alleyway was horrid. I kept picking up sounds of little claws, scraping against every wall. I swallowed dryly, speeding my pace. My fur kept standing on end, much like goosebumps for humans. That brought me back to the fact that I wasn't human. Not anymore.

I jumped at a sound, spinning around. A cat stood there, glaring at me. I started to growl, but quickly stopped myself. What is the matter with you?! Why are you growling at a cat?! Only beasts...

My thoughts found their way back to the lab, back to that moment where I shifted, into the form of a real wolf. A beast was a wolf. A wolf was a beast. Like a dog. And dogs chased cats.

The idea steadily became more and more appealing. As if on instinct, I dropped on all fours, feeling my spine shift into its feral state. I paused, and let go.

Mocking me...Stupid feline! "Stupid human-dog! You're not even smart enough to-" Laughter spilled from my maw. The cat was truly stunned.

"I'll skin you alive. First the tail. Then the legs. The body next. Then your precious kitty face. I'd run." True horror showed, and the cat took off.

I jumped off my haunches, allowing adrenaline to take over. The kitty pounced up a fire escape, scared out of its wits, as it should be. I yearned for its blood to spill into my mouth. I would kill that thing!

I lunged upwards, missing it by a hair. I barred my teeth, and lunged again. Damn creature! You will be my dinner! "You're nuts, you freak!"

I screamed in anger, launching myself to the top of the building. The feline took off across the top, with me at her paws. Blood screamed in my ears to keep running. I would feast tonight!

My heart pumped like a drum solo. My claws missed her by an inch. My legs kept pumping. My eyes glued to the prey. Eat! Eat! Die! Die!

"Heel." GAH!!! I cringed in pain, falling over. I slid across the rooftop, slamming into a wall. My spine shifted back. I panted, feeling so numb. The world was numb.

I slowly regained myself. I flexed my hand, feeling control again. What...was that? What just happened to me? The voice...Who said heel?

"Good. Stay." I looked up, sighting a woman. I squinted, seeing a metal whistle in her hand, and sighting the patch on her shirt. Animal Control. Great. I pushed myself up, and pulled myself up the wall.

I kept panting, so drained from what happened...whatever happened..."Listen...lady...I'm not....an animal....I'm..."

"Oh really? Then what was that whole bloody murder chase after the cat?" I frantically racked my brain for an answer. Wait, you have your credentials. You're a scientist! Make that work!

"Oh, uh, I participated in an experiment, that made me half animal, half human. You saw the animal. And I thank you for stopping me. You would have put a censor on my brain for blood and gore." I laughed, watching her unamused face.

"Yeah. I'm supposed to believe that?" Yeah, that was a bit of a stretch. Hmmm..

"Well, it's the only logical thing. Unless you've carried out this entire conversation with a wolf dressed in a man's clothes, and you're actually insane!" She blinked, dumbfound. Ha! I finally got to use that word. Dumbfound. Heh.

"Right. Uh...be...seeing you..."

"No you won't! We don't know each other. I'm Damien Carter." I waved, finally recovered from the feral incident. I walked away, smiling. Why was I smiling? I almost ate a cat!

I shivered, climbing down a fire escape. Thankfully, this one showed an exit back to the streets. I hopped down, putting my hands in my pockets. My tail wagged, and I loved it. It felt so good!

As I walked out, I noticed people in animal costumes, near a large building. I sniffed, confirming they were human, even though their costumes weren't very realistic. Kind of cartoony. What was it...This all seemed familiar...Furries!

I grinned. That's what I was!! A Furry! I grinned, running over. I entered, and just couldn't contain my excitement. All the costumes everywhere.... The pictures... It was just breathtaking. By this time, my tail was wagging insanely fast. I turned, and grinned, at a snow leopard furry. "Hello! Damien Carter! Real Furry!"

The person was speechless. I laughed, skipping around the convention. The smells were intoxicatingly wonderful. I was in bliss. Everyone complimenting each other, enjoying food, enjoying each other, even the fetish Furries! I was home.

But...I frowned, realizing the truth. They were living a lie. Not really being what they said they were. But, I could help them. I could make them what they so wished. I nodded, running towards the main stage.

They seemed to be introducing the convention, so most of the people would be there. I ran through the crowd, weaving past the costumed people.

I made my way towards the stairs. "Ugh, security! Stop that guy." I jumped in the air, doing a split kick, knocking them both out. Man, I lived this body! I did a backhand spring onto the stage. I grabbed the microphone from the annoying squirrel furry.

"Hello, one and all! I have news of a brand new invention, that will make all of your dreams true. I, am a genuine Furry!" They all laughed, obviously doubting me. I sighed. "Alright. Poke me, prod me, just don't strip me, rape me, or check my crotch. Seriously, that's a bit personal." They looked skeptical, so I hopped off the stage, and allowed them to analyze me.

In retrospect, it was a great idea. But, I proceeded, having my lips pulled open, my ears yanked, my tail pulled, and my feet felt over. After a few more minutes, I ran shook them off, rushing back to the stage. Never before, had I felt such claustrophobia.

"So. I'm real." Hands began to raise. I started with a tiger. "Yes?"

"Are you an alien?"

"No. I was told the technology was from an alien Furry, but I myself was once a human. Next question?"

"How did you become a Furry?"

"Well, I was a scientist, in a lab. My boss had this machine he would spend tons of nights trying to fix. So, I wanted to kiss up to him, and fix it for him. I had no idea that when I fixed it, a beam would shoot out, turning me into a Furry. Next?"

"Did the transformation hurt?"

"A lot. I had my spine grow, and come out as a tail, and my skull stretched. My bone structure was rewritten, as well as my nerves and muscles. It hurt a lot. Next?"

"Do you want to make us Furries?" A few voices chorused along with that one.

"Yes. I do. When I came here, I just felt such bliss. Then, I realized what I could do. I could create an entire race, and make hundreds of thousands of people happy! Uh..." I chuckled. "Next?"

The snow leopard that I first met raised her hand. "Can I be first?" A chorus of insults and sad reactions came from the crowd.

I smiled, holding out my hand. She grabbed it, and I pulled her up. "What's your name?"

"I'm Luna. Luna Matthews."

I looked into her eyes, seeing the excitement and anticipation in her eyes. I couldn't help but share it. I wasn't a freak. I belonged. I was a Furry. And she would be too. "Hello Luna. You're going to be a real Furry."
