Chapter 5

"A New Threat"

They had both taken down a beast four time their size, friendly monster they have been but scary at the same time in terms of power. Salena pushed a single button on the bottom of her keyboard before she jumped out of the chair.

"What did you just do?" Julie asked, still confused as to what had happened.

"It's a chemical that we set up around the town, when I press this button it is released and everyone goes into a deep, deep sleep. It's not harmful it's just to make sure no one discovers our secret."

Just as she was about to ask another question a puff of smoke exploded in front of them.

"Ugh, I swear giants have the worst tasting blood."

"Dude, your not suppose to lick it off your arm if you don't like it."

It was them.

"So Salena, how much damage did we do this time?"

"I would say a little less than last time.'

"Sweet, and tell me that no one woke up prematurely." Daren asked as both he and Jerel dried the blood off their bodies.

"Well...."

His eyes went from her instantly to Julie who froze in place as he stared into her purple eyes with his bloody red eyes.

"Julie? What the hell?"

"Relax, she promised not to tell anyone what we are, didn't you?"

She shook her head hard, but that didn't stop him from grabbing her shoulders. Something smelled familiar to him, his head dove towards her neck as he sniffed around it.

"The blood from yesterday, that was you. You saw us!"

"Just let her be, she won't tell anyone." Jerel stated as he threw his towel to the floor.

"Or maybe I should suck her dry now so that we don't have to take that risk."

Fear filled her eyes as he bared his two fangs.

"Calm down."

Salena delivered quite a hard punch to the top of his noggin, forcing to the ground fast.

"She's not dinner dumbass."

As he got up from the floor she stepped back.

"Just stay out of our business, you would only get in the way." said Daren as he walked from the locker back into the school as people were starting to wake up.

"Don't worry, he can be a hard ass at times, but he will grow to like you. Just look at Jerel, they use to be enemies now they are best friends." said Salena as she put a hand on Julies shoulder as the three walked into the school, closing the locker just as people started leaving class.

It felt rather strange to her knowing that the school contained three monsters, they weren't evil like in stories but that's what she thought they were, stories from fairy tales. Through out the day she had run into Salena, Jarel and Daren, even though his sister and friend talked to her he didn't take part in any conversation. She was relieved when the bell rang for them all to head home, after lunch Daren had left, he didn't have as many classes as she did so he got to leave early. At least the sun was out, not a black cloud in the sky. Instead of taking the bus she decided to walk home. What she had seen earlier that day had made her confused and she needed some fresh air.

She was on her guard as she walked home. She never knew when someone could have jumped her. As she walked by a alleyway she saw two guys standing off. She tried not to get involved but when she saw Daren against the wall bleeding she knew something was wrong. How could he bleed? Monster's couldn't be hurt unless it was by another monster right? Her back laid across the wall as she grabbed a nearby pipe. Quickly she jumped from around the corner and slammed the large piece of metal right into his head. She held onto the pipe as she got in front of Daren.

"Julie, get the hell out of here." he grunted as he held his bleeding chest.

She wasn't going to listen, this was the first time she ever felt that she was needed. At first she thought she had won, but in mere seconds the man rose back to his feet, half of his face was mashed together.

"Don't get involved, you will only get yourself killed!" he demanded.

"Would you shut up! I'm helping you out and that's that." she replied with rage as she held the pipe out in front of her.

They could see half of it's mouth curl into a grin as it raised the gun to them. This was it. They were about to die. They heard him pull the trigger, but felt no bullet enter their bodies.

"Enough!" a voice yelled from the heavens.

Julie looked up to find a vortex of black fire crashing down from the sky.

"Heh, your screwed now." Daren said as he passed out from losing to much blood.

The fire created a barrier in front of them as a man dressed in a blue button up shirt, blue jeans and black shoes appeared from the smoke.

"Back beast! Return from wince you came!" he commanded as he raised a large blade.

"Hold on tight." he whispered back as he plunged the sword into the ground.

Quickly she grabbed Daren and held on tight as they flew into the air in the same vortex of black fire.
