#1 of Divine University

_As a new year resolution I've decided to work on a new series completely. Some of you are going to not like me for doing this but I've gone through my old stories and removed them from SF and instead decided to combine them slightly into this one. Sorry for those of you that liked them before, but I hope you guys will enjoy this one. The first few Chapters may be clean but this will be a M/M series between an anthro and a human. I've given out my warning, if that doesn't interest you than simply do not read it. Thank you. _

Prologue 1

-Welcome to the Divine University-

Welcome, new and returning students to the Divine University. Leander stood there, a bag slung over his shoulder carrying what small things he had and a little white letter he had been sent. The letter was for this very school. All he knew was that they had asked for his appearance and attendance at today's date- January 12, 1845 at 8:00 in the morning. There was a signature at the bottom, Spirit he didn't know or had never heard of a Spirit. Leander averted his eyes from the sign and stared at the Cathedral sized building before him. Or that's how the front of it appeared anyways, the rest of the buildings behind were clouded in mist. It was surrounded by a great black gate, with pointed spear tips stretching further then his eyes could make out before the fog clouded its end. He figured it covered the entire perimeter. The letter had mentioned that this was a school for those gifted and different than the normal civilization of the world.

The boy pulled his cloak tighter around him, keeping his hood up and face partially hidden. A nasty and frigid wind reminded him of the chill of the outside world and he took a step forward. The Cathedral lights were on, but it was dimmed. It didn't make sense that something called the Divine University would be so unholy looking. The height of the columns secured the fourth and fifth floors of windows and even higher to the sixth, seventh and eighth. Also at the top, one with sharp eyes could make out a final story; from down here it appeared to be a rounded glass room, like a dome.

The wind tugged at him again and he proceeded forward, nervous as the gates opened on their own when he approached. Passing the fountain that forced the path to round out; Leander came to a stop before two grand double doors. Having a black sort of metallic appearance and rough textures of both human and anthro figures he could only guess they were based off some religious aspect or perhaps devotion made for this University. A lion head knocker rested at the center of both doors and Leander took up a hand and knocked. From inside a number of sliding and unhinging noises came and then finally, the door open inward.

Chatter instantly filled his ears and a mass group of both humans and anthros stood waiting to enter another set of doors. His nervousness was swept away all at once by the chaos of noise and he relaxed entering and feeling the warmth of the Cathedral embrace him. Few eyes looked back to him but most kept their attention to the door and the enormous metal clock. More importantly, they focused on the tiny thin hand that made its way around the circle. The time was 7:59 according to the clock. While the needle ventured around the circle, Leander took the time to study the group of beings within. It was diversity, though very few humans.

The anthros weren't just known as bears or pigs or wolves, a simple name like that was insulting. They were much more intelligent than that, they used the Latin language to boast themselves. The Vires Ursus or Bears of Strength for example; the anthros almost proved to outsmart the human race, but we've managed to bypass their minds shortly after they arrived. Their strength and physical body however was still questionable. They had the height difference, the body mass increase, the strength to kill us with a single hand, a single blow and of course the heightened senses.

The clock ticked to 8:00 and it began. A bell started to play its song, dings and dongs echoing throughout the school and finally ending with a finally of eight dongs. The doors opened and the entrance behind Leander closed and locked itself. He still wasn't quite sure where he was at, but he followed the group curious like some of the others were.

Within the doors an enormous hall was revealed, more than a hall, it was like a dining room, fit for everyone, tables aligned vertically, so that the mix of beings could walk straight ahead and when seated briefly turn their heads to the sinister looking stadium. Upon the stadium was a large rounded table, arch like with chairs that sat at the back end overlooking the entering audience. That nervousness found its way back to Leander once more, the thought of where was he and how did he possibly get in a mix up like this? He hadn't exactly been through the best parts of his life, back home living with his cousin and his family they were eager to get rid of him, with the death of his mother and disappearance of his father as a child, he was left to knowing nothing of them. His Aunt and Uncle were cruel and gave him no information about what happened. From the intimidating insults and threats they threw out him he kept the subject off limits.

"Move it new meat!" A powerful voice growled at him shoving him toward a table to make room for a large group of tan boars. His appearance was bulky and muscular, but he was rather chubby, in fact the way he waddled past him made him look like a chub. Leander paid no attention to the matter though and instead quickly found a seat. He pulled his hood low and watched as everyone took their seats. The chatter within the hall only grew more and more as time lingered on. Leander continued to wander with his eyes through the room, taking in everything, not just the people and anthros, but the scenery. How each wall was painted and embellished with beautiful statues and elegant paintings of warriors, sorceress and all that fantasy type of stuff. His eyes became glued to one though, a painting of a figure whom took the appearance of an assassin. He stood tall and strong, as if paying no attention to the one who depicted him, he looked like he was overlooking something behind the artist. What really caught Leanders attention though, was his armor and that devastating looking expression that was hidden beneath his hood.

Suddenly it became quiet, and atop the stage as several figures walked out. There were a total of seven, two of them lions, one a wolf and another bear along with a pig and horse. The final one came after each of them and surprising Leander, it was a human. An aged human, very aged human, his movements were slow toward the podium that rested at the edge of the stage. With the other animals taking their seats at the arched table they left the center seat open. He figured it was the humans place and also realized that the chair was the most decorated and high up. The human must have been the King, the boss, headmaster, whatever they called him here; he was the one in charge.

"Welcome," He cleared his raspy old voice. "Welcome students of the Divine University. Very familiar faces for the most part, a lot of new faces as well... For those of you, whom have been here before, please enjoy yourselves to the food we will be presenting. I will ask those of you that haven't to please do the same but also listen intently." Doors on the sides of the dining room opened and in entered chefs of different species pushing carts of food and filling the empty table with sizzling breakfast. "As I was preparing to announce," he continued. "Welcome to the University, the history behind our school comes from the very beginnings of Heaven and Hell, when darkness and light fought one another for superiority over Earth. Those of you familiar with our history already know that the battle has not stopped since that day. That the battle will never stop, we can only do as much as keeping them at bay. Now you may be wondering as to whom them is? They are the desecration, the corruption of this world, the ones who have lost the path of the Spirit and blindly follow the one of the Furor. The Furor, is the demon of the darker world, Hell, the underworld assisted by his devilish minions to fight for claim over our world. You have all been called here for matters that only the divine Spirit could have been a part of. Each of you possesses an unnatural power, a gift, a unique property that separates all of you from the others of the world. Each of you is a Protector."

Leander sat confused and mesmerized. Enthralled by this person, frightened at the terrors he mentioned of Hell. It felt like his thoughts were shared through the room, everyone was silent convinced and paid eager attention to the speech of this unknown man.

"A Protector is one whose life is devoted to bringing clarity to this world, keeping evil at bay, removing any unholy presence necessary, and protecting the innocent who do not bare the gift each of you do. The gift is varied through every one of you. From the years of my time at the University, I have seen endless differences and similarities in abilities. Some of you carry the river of the ancient language that allows you to manipulate and conjure things from thin air. Others have the heightened senses and can foresee the future. I am eager to see the new abilities some of you posses. As foretold by our own mistress Azula, this year is suppose to be the most extravagant in abilities for hundreds of years, a fresh batch and breed of Protectors.

But before we get too involved with this, I request that all of you eat it is early and breakfast is an important nourishment for a perfect day. When you have finished, those familiar with our campus may head to their dorms, those of you unfamiliar will finish your meal and one by one come up and be given your dorms. Please take your time, today there will be no contracts within the Contract Hall, please refrain from entering. However, some of you have noticed that some of your friends are not here; they have been given proper assignments on thinning out the horrors of the Furor. Enjoy your meals."

Loud applauses started and then everyone took to their meals. The meal helped drown away the awkwardness of these surrounding beasts; Leander had managed to not find a single spot within the crow of his species.

"I heard Dakota and Runt were one of those with the special assignments today." Someone around him had laughed. "High Master's got a real eye for those two. It's a good thing that Dominus Thor trained Dakota so well, he's an idol for the Ursus."

"Bah, the Ursus doesn't say a single word to anyone... how can Dominus possibly see him as an idol for you Ursus?" A boar spoke.

"Dakota is a powerful beast! Don't test him, he does what he has to, gets the mission done." One of the bears growled in defense.

The boar snorted. "He let one of us boars fall! He's a greedy bastard that serves no one but himself."

"Runt's the exact same way!" The grizzly retaliated.

"That's why they're both good together." The grizzly said nothing this time and the boar snuffed returning to his meal.

Runt and Dakota? Leander thought. A bear and a pig? His eyes were caught by the High Master who was watching him at the table. Of all the students here... why was he watching him? He held his stare back long enough to make the High Master to casually shift his gaze elsewhere.

Breakfast concluded with many students dismissing, leaving a mere fifty new students within the room. One by one each of them attended to the High Master and the other six being directed out, most likely to their parts of the campus. When it was Leanders turn, he stood before the group, unsure of whom to walk to. They each had the same expression on their faces. It was almost as if they were expecting something to happen, like some supernatural incident would occur, or the skies would open up and light shine down on him. Whatever the case was, it caused him to stand there frozen.

"Boy?" The boar questioned with a strong voice and snort. "What is your name?"

Leander remained silent, eyes shifting through each master. "Le... Leander." He finally said. "Leander Purus."

The High Master gave a warm smile. "Welcome Leander Purus, to the Divine University." The old man offered an old hand, and Leander slowly accepted.

-The Vanishing Contract-

"To Hell with Dominus Gallow!" Runt roared, cleaving through the horde of the flesh walkers leaving their bodies immobilized. He quickly rushed past them, focusing on his main target, knowing that after only a short minute the walkers would rise again and pursue them. "We could be enjoying a perfect meal at D.U!

"Keep your mind focused Runt!" Dakota snorted, the white polar bear chasing the monstrosity fleeing from them in the shadows. "Just finish the damn contract and we'll be on our way!" Vaulting a short grave fence he and Runt pursued the dark being.

"He's going to get away unless you grab him from here Dak!"

The polar bear snorted again rushing forward and removing a silver stained revolver from its sheath. Taking but a single moment's glance, smoke exploded from the barrel and the monster collapsed. Racing forward for their prey, the two stopped short growling in realization. The corpse had vanished, soaked itself back into Hell free from its pursuers.

"The High Master won't be happy with this." Runt began cursing sticking the pointed tip of his axe into the earth and churning it as he twisted.

"We've sent the being back to Hell... we've given D.U. enough time to train the new recruits."

"That wasn't our contract. High Master and Gallow will know this was your fault for not finishing the monster back in the house. While you watched it prey upon an innocent life we could have taken it out!"

"It was for a purpose Runt! You saw how fast it was, how quickly it realized students of D.U. were nearby! That life wasn't supposed to be taken out in vain. We should have caught it... It doesn't make sense how fast it was able to retract back into Hell. I don't even think I killed it... We'll inform Astrid right away." Dakota stood up from the charred earth and looked out toward the moon lit mountains that surrounded Shallow, the smallest city in the Province of Misst. "If you speak out against me Runt, I'll have Gallow on your ass for the rest of the semester, explaining to him that the mission was at fault because you couldn't hurry your boar ass up. You and I both know you've been slacking on your physical training."

Runt flinched and snorted in anger. "If only the Dominus could see how you really are when not at the University Dak."

"You're no better than I am Runt... Let's head back... I'm curious of the new recruits..."

Runt grinned. "Eager to play with some of the new recruits huh? Maybe you can even find a mate this time? Maybe he'll stay with you this time instead of running off and never returning huh?"

Dakota glared back. "Watch yourself Runt." Runt grunted again and turned away, Dakota following shortly after to return the news to the D.U.
