The telephone rang loudly. A soft groan coming from the sofa where someone was sleeping during the night. The phone continues ringing for about 4 more rings and then the phone is picked up from the room above. The person on the sofa stirs slowly and looks at the clock on the video player. The time reads 6 am, GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). He blinks his soft blue eyes slowly and rubs his eyes, removing the sleeping dust from them, before sitting back up on the sofa. He tries to recall why he ended up on the sofa and then remembers his bedroom being too hot and stuff to sleep in, due to the warm British nights that have been normal in July, compared with the month before which were cooler. He stands up slowly and walks into the kitchen slowly, his tail sway as he does to keep his body balanced as he walks though the dinning room first, past the round table and wooden chairs. He opens the kitchen door and blinks again as the morning light hits his eyes, dazing him slightly and he gets use to the light levels. He opens on the corner top cupboard and removes a glass, before turning to the fridge and opening, looking for a cold drink. He spies a bottle of milk and pours himself some into his glass. He puts the bottle back and closes the fridge door with the flat end of his tail before moving back to the sitting room. He sits back down on the sofa and slowly drinks the glass of milk, listening to the movement in the room above as his mother gets up. The phone call was from his father, who is working nights at one of the prisons on the Isle of Wright, which he can't remember at the moment as he's still half asleep. He looks up at the wall mirror, seeing his tried eyes looking back at him. Like all orcas, he has a blunt beak and has black and white body markings. He has white eye patches behind his eyes which show a slight red tint, which he's had from birth.

The house he lives in is a large semi detached and in the suburbs of Hampshire, England, he opens the door to the landing and wonders slowly up the stairs to his room, opening the door, and wondering to his bed. He pulls the covers off and turns on his television, knowing he won't be able to sleep again till night. He sits in his bed and watches the news, seeing the same old stories such as the US election campaign and bombing in Iraq. He rests on his side, so not to lean on his dorsal fin, unlike some of his friends, his dorsal fin is bent over to the right, forming a U shape, which is often something others make fun of. He puts his glass on the floor, like all his stuff he has, strewn on the floor, with no real home to be put in. His books from university lying on the floor and on shelves all over his room. He looks down at his body, the black merging with the white of his belly seamlessly, and a black dot in his belly button. He looks down to his tail, seeing the white moving right down to his flukes at the need, only a pair of boxers on him, a slight sweat on his body. He pulls the curtain open slightly and opens his window to get a cool breeze to play over his body, as he closes his eyes slightly.

One and an half hours later, he hears his mother drive off to work in Portsmouth, her small blue Ford pulling out of the drive and turning left towards the M27 motorway. He looks out of the window and makes the way to the bathroom, turning on the shower, running the water to a warm temperature he can stand, removing his boxers and locking the door of the bathroom, so his sister can't walk in on his. He steps under the shower head and waters down his smooth skin, picking up the bottle of skin shampoo he uses from among the fur shampoo that everyone else uses. He takes his time to clean his body, taking care to get all his skin wet and not getting any body shampoo into his eyes, having done this before and ended up with red watering eyes for two days.

He turns off the shower and clambers out of it, feeling for a towel as he keeps his eyes closed tightly as he does. His hand touches the soft towel and he grabs it, pulling it to his face and drying it, removing the water over his eyes, and wrapping it around his waist. He looks into the bathroom mirror and removes his toothbrush to clean his conical teeth, each one the same as the one before, all slightly yellow but closer to white then they use to be, after the dentist told him that he may have to loss some if he doesn't take his oral hygiene properly.

He slowly walks back into his room that is opposite the bathroom, water dripping from his dorsal and arms as he does, looking at the TV and sighing softly as he hears the local weather report "just what I need. Another warm and sticky night" he says, more to himself than anything else. He sits on the bed again, as he rubs close to his eyes and then his chin, feeling light stubble of hair, always wondering why he was the only dolphin at college and university that can grow a beard. He reaches for his electric shaver, and slowly shaves the hair off, his parents telling him to wet shave instead. The last time he did this he cut him and refused to continue, saying he will only dry shave. His dorsal drips slowly and he gets the towel to dry it off as best he can, not always being able to, he looks down again at his tail, a long slit were his penis is hidden can be seen, with a black spot on his slit. He walks over to the draws and opens one, pulling out another pair of boxers and sock, looking at his work uniform handing on his cupboard down, the word One Stop visible surrounded by a red rectangle, red short sleeves and the rest black. He dries his skin slowly, clicking a bit as he rubs the towel on his slit, causing a slight redness on his belly. He frowns as he sees this, throwing the towel onto his bed, pulling his boxers on before continuing "this always happens when I do that. Get a grip, your always be single, as no one really likes you." This being true as he doesn't make friends every well, and has been subject to bulling by others due to the fact he's an orca, which is a top predator of the ocean, meaning he takes the raft for everything from seals and some of the people that are members of the small dolphin species and some whales. Due to this he now keeps to himself, having lost the confidence to ask and girls out, something his driving instructor told him will giving his driving lessons the year before, having nearly cause three accidents. He grabs a can of deodorant and spays it around his body, before putting on his socks and uniform, he rummages around the floor for his black shoes, spotting them and putting them on, both size 13, something his parents joked about when he bought them from a cheap shoe shop, as they were plastic and didn't fit on well.

He looks at the clock and grabs his bag and keys, putting on his headphones and turning his CD player as he walks out of the door and locks it, he walks up the drive way and towards his bus stop, watching the morning traffic past him. He crosses the road and walks the cash point, taking out £10 from his bank account and walks into the shop and walks the isles, looking for a quick breakfast, making sure his tail and flukes don't bump into anything as he goes. He picks up a bottle of orange and goes to the bakery section, picking up a croissant as well. He walks to the till and places his breakfast on the counter. "That will be £1.49 please" the till assistance asks politely looking at him curiously as she does, her reaction in her eyes is normal for seals and sea lions, "this is a killer whale I'm serving, he can kill me if he want to" she says in her mind, not knowing that he lives with sea lions himself for most of his life after being orphaned at a very young age.

He walks slowly out of the Co-op and crosses back over the road, walking to the bus stop and sitting on the wall, waiting for his bus, the 94, to turn up to take him to work in the next village to where he lives. He stares down the road, watching the 26 turn up from Southampton and travelling down to the bus station in the town centre. His bus turns up from the same road, the number 94 on the front, he raises his arm out, the bus slows down and stops in front of him, the doors open and he walks in "return to the Square please" he says. The driver replies "£2.45 please", he hands the money over and takes the ticket, placing it in his pocket and taking a seat, he looks out the window, bored as he watches the houses and fields roll by, the morning mist still hugging the hills and woods.

15 minutes later, he climbs out of the bus and crosses over the road, looking at the pub in front of him before turning left, walking past the hardware store and Chinese takeaway. He turns into the store he works in, opening the door and feeling the cool blast of air hit him, the shops air conditioning only working for 2 days now as he walks to get a bottle of water and patch of biscuits for his shift. He turns and smiles to his work colleague, a female bottlenose dolphin, Rosie, with soft brown eyes and a gentle smile, "morning Dan" she says to him, "morning" he replies to her, placing his drink and food behind the counter after paying for them.

He walks back to the end of the shop and puts in the code to the back door, something that has changed one week before after the last assistant manage, who was an otter, was accused of stealing £400 from the shop safe, but Daniel has his idea on who it really was. He pushes open the door and takes his bag off his shoulders and walks into the back office, were the manger and new assistant manager are talking to each other. His manager a formidable lioness was pouring over the takings of the night before, checking the amount declared which is stored in the shops night safe. She turns around as Daniel reaches the office "morning Dan, till one owes the safe £100 and here are your stamps and phone cards. When you go down can you ask Rosie to take out £200 for the banking?" Daniel nodded slowly and then feels a tug on his tail, and a small child giggling as well. The turns around and giggles as well as the assistant manages son pulls on his tail again, "hello there, can I have my tail back?" he asks him. He child shakes his head and calls his sister in, to which she pulls on his tail at the same time, causing Daniel to squeak out a bit in pain. Their mother hears this and turns to her children, walking to them and picking up her son, forcing him into the pushchair. Like animal morphs, humans are a common site in the UK, and Carol was one of the nice ones, but you wouldn't know it if you saw her. She had moved back from the Isle of Man and working back in the same store after 2 years. "are you alright Daniel", "yes I am, thanks Carol" he replies as he rubs his tail after having it pulled, noticing for the first time he had forgotten to coat the upper half of his tail black like he does every morning. This is one of his other strange features on his body, that is something others like making fun of, saying that he is a cross of a orca and beluga whale, far from it, he's full orca, and the pure white tail fluke was due to a genetic problem of the colouration for is tail. If you looked at his DNA strutcher, you will find it is 99.9% orca, and 0.1% sea lion, this explains why he keeps getting a slight beard. The reason he has the sea lion DNA is due to the fact he was not always an orca morph, something he has kept to himself for 13 years. He was once like the orcas in Sea World, performing to an audients in a dolphairium in Windsor Safari Park, before it closed down, and became Lego Land. He was bought by scientists and his DNA altered slightly so he can become a morph, after they heard him speak English, instead of the normal clicks and whistles orcas make. This made him the first of his kind, and he was soon adopted by the family he lives with.

"Dan we have a new till assistant starting today and need you to help her out with the lottery and videos, as well as the till." Doreen says to him as he stares absently out of the window, daydreaming like he always does when not doing anything. "Hmmm?" Dan says when he hears his name called, "we have a new staff member, Dan" Carol replies. Dan nods and goes into his bag, taking out a book, Father Ted, and a collection of CD's to listen to at the till. He checks the time on his mobile phone and walks down to the till, behind Rosie, taking care to not bend her dorsal fin, as she doesn't like it, having done it before by accident, causing Rosie to shout and hit him in the stomach, knocking the wind from him can nearly causing an asthma attack as well. He ducks down and places a CD into the CD player, Queens Greatest Hits, and presses the play button, not noticing that the new staff member had turned up, making their way to the second till, which had be put onto training mode, so customers don't use it. He stands up and types in his operator number into the till, logging him on. He stretches out and tries to soufflé out a yawn as he does, his eyes closed.

"Nice tail you have there, were you born like that or did you paint it that colour?" a soft feminine voice says. Daniels eyes snap open suddenly and turns to where the voice is, blinking as he looks at her, the new assistant standing behind her till with a warm smile in her face. "Umm" Daniel says, fiddling with a pen, he always went like this when speaking to the opposite sex "I was born like it" "it looks cute. I'm Sophie by the way." Daniel, I...I'm Daniel." He looks at her taking in the fact that he's looking at a second orca, her smooth skin being caressed by her cloths, her tail fluke with a slight nick on the right, her dorsal straight and curved like a dolphins, he eyes a soft and warm hazel colour. He notices that she has 3 black spots on her chin and neck and catches himself staring at them, he turns away quickly, seeing a local and frequent customer as he does "Half bottle of Gordens please" the customer asks. Daniel nods and reaches out behind Sophie to take the spirit from the shelf, his arm rubbing on her dorsal fin as he does. He blinks slightly, thinking he heard a soft murring sound, and turns back to the customer. He scans in the gin and asks the same question he always asks "is there anything else?" "No" replies the customer and Dan presses the total button on the till, causing the price to show. "That will be £9.95. I'm mean £5.99" he says, correcting himself as he does. The customer giggles softly and hands over a £20 note, Daniel then lifts it slightly towards the light and checks for the water crest make, showing the Queen of England, before typing in the amount received and pressing 'cash', causing the till draw to open, he put the note in and collects the change, handing over £14.01 change, before closing the till.

"Did you do that on purpose or by accident by the way, as it felt nice, by the way", Sophie says to him, watching his reaction as she does. Daniel goes red slightly on his eye patches and stutters a reply to her "by...by accident, I...I was reaching for the spirits, which you can see, are behind you." She nods softly still looking over him as he says this, taking in his appearance without him noticing. He feels a tap on his left shoulder and turns around, to see Rosie before him, "are you going to give me that £200s for the banking or what Dan" she says impatiently. Daniel bows his head slightly and floats the till, taking out £200s and handing it to her, in which she then marches off to the back office, her tail swaying as she walks away. Daniel sighs softly and opens out his bottle of water, taking in a mouthful. "What's wrong with her then? She seems to think she's boss." Daniel recalls reading that bottlenose dolphins are one of the most dangerous dolphins, so compared to him; she was more likely to kill someone than him. "Don't mind her, she's always like that. Always bossing me around like that, and others. I often hum the imperial march when she walks away from me". He chuckles slightly and then catches himself after hearing what he says, a sudden dread running though his body. He had voiced what he thought before to the manages daughter to Rosie, thinking it would be confidential, but was wrong as she told her what he said, and he was shouted at for 5 minutes, forced to listen to the screaming lioness, while Rosie watched and smiled. He turns and Sophie and says in a small voice, "Please don't tell her I said that". She looks at him and nods softly "alright, I won't tell her what you said. Anyway, are you going to help me with the till or not?" Daniel ooos softly and starts teaching Sophie how to use the till, taking his time as he does, so not to miss anything as he does so.

After about 1 hour, Daniel leaves her to use the till, and serve customers as he write out a cigarette list, for the back, taking his time and serving customers as well as he goes. He finishes the list and starts to wonder off "where you going?" Sophie asks.

"Just to hand in his list for the cigarettes. Will be a minute, your doing well. Just buzz if you need anything" Daniel replies, walking up the isle towards the back office, his tail swinging slightly as he walks. He open the door and places the cig list on the desk for Doreen. "Thanks" she says without looking up from the computer. He wonders back out of the door and down to the tills, seeing one customer asking for alcohol. He notices Sophie is confused and walks up to her, looking at the message on the till screen "put in supervisor code" flashing at them. Daniel looks at the customers face and suspects something "how old are you?" he asks. "18" the customer replies, "ID" Daniel asks automatically "No", the customer replies "no ID, no sale I'm afraid" Daniel says to him. The customer looks angry and swears at Daniel, who keeps his cool and asks the customer to leave to store, or he'll call the manager, to throw him out. The customer leaves calling Daniel names as he goes. Daniel just picks out a chocolate biscuit and eats it, like he does it all the time. "What was that all that about then" Sophie asks curiously. "Well if your not 18 you can't sell alcohol to start with. Plus as he didn't look of age, I asked him is age and then his ID. As he had none I refused sale. People often call me names when I don't serve them." Sophie looks at him with puzzlement and then blushes, "that mean I can't sell alcohol then, as I'm only 17, as my birthday is not till next year." "Yeah, till your 18. So you have to ask permission to sell alcohol first from an older member of staff." Daniel says to her, strangely finding it easy to talk to her, when he wound normally go to pieces in minutes.

At 2 pm his relief turns up and Daniel and Sophie walk to the back, talking to each other, Daniel keeping his history secret and who he lives with secret too, as he hasn't talked to another person like him, an orca before. The closest he got was all the years ago in the Safari park, to the female orca that became his adopted mother after he was moved there from Canada. He walks with her as he makes his way to the bus stop, his bus waiting for him. He climbs on and to his surprise so does Sophie. He hands over his ticket, which the bus driver rips slightly so indicate that the return has been done. He takes a seat near the back and Sophie sits down next to him. He smiles shyly to her and then turns to look out of the window. He feels a soft warm hand on his dorsal suddenly, his eyes close instinctively and murrs softly, liking the rubs. The bus suddenly jolts and Daniel opens up his eyes, looking at Sophie curiously. She smiles warmly to him, and doesn't say a word to him, one of her hands now rubbing the back of his head. He leans into the rubs, enjoying the attention she gives him. The feeling of the smooth skin on her hands on his skin, new to him. Having lived with sea lions, he's mostly use to a fury paw rubbing his head, ever since he was small. He wants to tell her the truth, but his mind is saying not too, "if you tell her, she'll just walk away from you and never speak to you again" he says to himself. He sees his stop get closer and presses the stop button in front of him. "This is my stop coming up now" he says to Sophie, who nods and stands up as well. "I get off here as well anyway, as I live up Frosthole road," she tells him. Daniel nods and walks off the bus as it stops, Sophie walking next to him. "Well," he starts, "this is my road. I'll see you later then." She nods softly and watches him cross the road, noticing which house he walks in to. Her plans for him have only just started. "He'll be a though one to break", she says to herself, before walking to her home. Opening the door and climbing into her room. She gets changed and notices she has a pinker belly than normal, while at the same time Daniel does too. Both know that something is up but neither will admit it to themselves. Daniel gets changed and turns on his laptop to chat online and play some games, not knowing that in weeks to come, he will be a new person and orca.

To be continued.....
