Chapter 3 Savers
Chapter 3
Yuukan had been with the pack for almost a month and was adjusting quickly to the new ways. So many rules and things to do during the day. He was quickly regaining his weight and was growing stronger each day. Even though he was stuck in training for awhile, he was enjoying his life with his new adoptive family. Most of the wolves accepted him into the pack and trusted him, while others kept there distance and avoided talking, murmuring and shooting him disgusted looks. He ignored them and knew that it would take time before he was fully excepted.
"Yuukan." A strong voice sounded from behind. It was Reno, on of the packs Omega's.
"Yes?"
The omega cleared his voice as he approached him. " Sparta wishes to see you."
"Alright," Yuukan dipped his head and walked off, toward the top of the mountain, where Sparta's den lied.
As he approached the den he could hear his new leader ranting about something. He was to far away to make it out clearly. He heard another voice answer back. It was Cross. One of the packs delta's. He was a mean, shallow wolf who would even steal from a pup if he got the chance. He was a husky patterned wolf with the colors of brown and white.
He reached the top of the mountain and stepped inside the dark den. As his eyes adjusted he saw eyes were on him and Shadow was there as well, the pack deputy. He flattened his ears and begun to back out of the den. Before he could, Sparta called him over.
"Ah, Yuukan, nice to have you. Come in come in, we were just about to start."
"Start what?" Yuukan asked as he stepped forward, his ears now pointed.
Sparta shared glances with both Shadow and Cross before turning her eyes back on him. "While who your going to mentor of course." She replied loudly with a slight laugh. "But first," her laughter died away and her eyes grew hard and cold like ice. "Tell me, were things as bad as you say in the pack of Shadows?"
Yuukan twitched his ears nervously and nodded, "there, we would eat scraps we find in other pack lands or what was left over from what we had caught after the mothers had eaten. There was not enough to go around. And most of the pups were sick and frail when I left. The mothers can't get enough food,even with what we would bring them. Older wolves were dieing like fruit flies and Black was as ruthless as always. Even the warriors there look like the walking dead there so thin. Why you ask?"
Sparta's eyes softened and the she looked back at Cross and Shadow and they shared the same softness in there eyes as she did.
"We should, we must Sparta." Cross barked, his deep voice echoing threw out the cave.
The leader looked at her paws and gave a sigh. Looking like a pup she mumbled, "Yes, I know Cross." She paused for a moment and then continued. "Gather the warriors and prepare to invade the pack of the Shadows."
Yuukan's jaw dropped open and was going to protest but was interrupted by the deputy. "We are attacking to drive out Black, not the pack." She said in a soft tone as she looked across the den to Yuukan.
He nodded and understood, with Black as alpha, the pack was in chaos, and there was no food for anyone. They think if they drive out Black things will get better, but they don't realize that there deputy will do worse then Black ever has.
"Well?" Sparta asked as she looked at Yuukan. Shadow and Cross had left and he realized he had missed something.
"Sorry Sparta, what?"
She sighed and twitches her ears. "I asked if you would go on a boarder patrol with me."
" Yes of course." His fur bristled with excitement and the thought of his old packs matters faded away. This was his first time leaving camp. Sparta had never sent him on anything but training and even then he never got in a good hunt.
Sparta walked out of her den and down the mountain and he followed after. As they walked the invasion party had joined up with them and walked up to the boarder of the river that separated the pack of Heaven Gate and the pack of Shadows. He and Sparta nodded there good byes to the invasion party of 20 and walked along the boarder as they jumped and swam to the other side, in to Shadows territory. They both watched as the group dashes threw the bushes and into the dried up land ahead.
He could not help but wag his tail slightly at the thought of one day being able to join an invasion party to attack his old pack. He turned to Sparta as the last of the wolves had disappeared in to the under brush of his old territory and blinked when he saw that she had disappeared. His happiness turned to fear. He had no clue where he was or what was along the boarder. He was lost!
"Sparta!" Yuukan wailed in desperation.
"Spa-" He cut himself off as he relieved that this was a time to impress his alpha. He took a whiff of the air and opened his mouth to catch more sent of the area around him. When he caught her sent he dashed forward. Edging to find his leader.
He had been walking for at least an hour and had not found Sparta yet. He had caught every other sent but all of them were stronger then hers. A rabbit, snake, some elk, and even the sent of his old territory that the wind had blown over but every step he took Sparta's sent seemed to be getting weaker.
"Watch where you going!"
Yuukan jumped as the yowl came to him. He had zoned out, and bumped into someone. He looked up and saw a silver furred wolf with green eyes and dark gray socked paws.
"S-sorry Cory." Yuukan shuddered.
Cory gave a slight growl and barked, "What are you doing out here. Your not aloud to leave camp."
"Sparta asked me if I wanted to patrol with her. So I came with her and when we were leaving camp we met up with the invasion party. When me and her had finished watching them go into the bushes on the other side, I turned and she was gone. I have been trying to find her scene."
Cory twitched his ears and pointed with his tail in the direction where the river was flowing from. "She went that way. Honestly Yuukan, how can you not sent her. She is as clear as day. She is not trying to hide herself. If she was then no one would find her."
Yuukan nodded and walked past Cory and along the river.
