((This is something short i wrote after a dream about a month ago. I've been having a bit of a block as of late, so i decided to post this. I have more work soon to come but, for now, heres a little something.))

A girl and a boy were very good friends. They had known each other since they had been children, though they hardly remembered the events. The girls father was a strict, harsh man, who punished the girls flights of fancy and imagination with cruel words and hostility. He despised her will to imagine and to dream. Most of all, he hated the boy. One day, when the two children had grown up, they met again. Now they were close to being adults. A man and a women. Still, their connection had stayed strong over the years. The girl had long since been forced into a new shape, a shape created by her fathers hand. She was ridged and altered, her imagination and drive to dream snuffed out like a small flame. Still the boy, now almost a man, saw the possibilities within her. Through his influence, his child like demeanor and innocent personality, the girls flame was rekindled, and born again.

The girl and her father would only be in town for a short while, a week. The girl and the boy met once again when parents ran into each other at the bank. The boys appearance had barely changed. He wore shots and a T-shirt, his hair slightly un-kept. The girl on the other hand, wore a business outfit, her hair tied up into a bun. However, just this brief contact began to change her once again. During their brief run in, while their parents talked as adults normally would, the boy slipped the girl a letter. It said to meet him at the park. Shortly after, the boy and his mother left, the girls father having been quite rude to the boys mother.

The girl pondered on the note, before eventually deciding to go. During that night the two simply talked of the past, reminiscing and once again feeling as they had. Like children. For once in a long time, the girl felt free. It was like a drug almost, and the boy was the most generous of dealers. With him, she felt free she realized. Her eyes began to open once again; Her flame began to burn bright once more. With this brief contact between her and the boy, her star began to shine once again.

They continued to meet like this every night of that week. The girl was having the time of her life, being with the boy from her past, who had always encouraged her dreams, no matter what they were. When she had said she wanted to become a pop singer, the boy volunteered to listen to her rehearsals. The very next day, when she had changed her mind and decided she wanted to be a doctor, the boy let her diagnose his cold. The girl realized that the cycle went on near endlessly. This boy was her gate way to her youth, and to her dreams. The girl began to realize that this boy, was the gateway to her happiness.

Of course, the girls father noticed this change in his daughters personality. He had been used to her being attentive and constantly alert, always ready to heed his next command. After catching her day dreaming once again, the man snapped. "What is wrong with you!" he screamed, venom in his voice. "Your performance is down. You have been lost and starry eyed for days. Have you become daft?!" Suddenly he pieced together quickly, his face showing rage. "That boy! It was that boy wasn't it!" The girl, cringed from her father, drawing herself up into a ball to escape her fathers rage. He forbid her to ever see the boy again. He threatened to cut her off completely if she ever did see him again.

For the next two days, the girl obeyed. Avoiding the park and ignoring the boys calls. She ignored any sort of contact he tried to make with her. It was the only way to keep the both of them safe she decided, and did her best to stay away, despite the feelings she had grown to feel. The boy however, un-announced to the girl, had developed identical feelings. He felt that he cared about the girl as much more than a friend. No, there was something else there, and he liked the feeling. On night number six of that one week, the boy came by the girls house. Small pebbles were thrown at her window to grab her attention. She tried to send the boy away, but he would not listen. His determination and confidence baffled her. He simply would not give up. The girl began to once more slightly understand the feelings she had towards him. Those starry eyes of his shown brightly in the night and she realized that she could not resist.

The girl climbed down from her window, dressing in warm winter attire, as the temperature had begun to drop once again. The winter season was upon them, the water freezing over in most places. Snow fell leisurely from the sky as they walked and talked. The boy, once again, took the girl to the park, and then beyond this, into town. They passed a certain block that made the boy stop in his tracks. "I just remembered it." he said slowly, and the girl looked at him curiously. His eyes were locked on a small shop, and small salon across the street. "There. That is where we met. Your mother and mine were getting their hair done."\

Memories flowed back into the girls mind slowly. She too, had forgotten about this day, but now the memories were coming back to her as easy as what she had eaten for dinner. She had been quiet then, reclusive and timid. However, the boy seemed like he was still the same. He had initiated their first contact with each other; Approaching the girl and tapping her shoulder before yelling "Tag!" enthusiastically. The girl had been confused at first, but at the urging of her mother, she began to play with the boy. They got into so many things that day. They ran around the salon without a care in the world that day, yelling and laughing, bringing a jumble of different reactions from the adults there. The boy had chased her with a hair dryer, making her hair frizzy. The girl remembered the look on her mothers face before the women laughed, the boys mother two, laughing at their antics. The girl remembered the look on her own face. Happiness...She could honestly say, that it was the best day of her life.

Her memories slowly stopped flowing, and she returned to the present. A tear ran down her cheek, her eyes locked on the glass window of the salon. Then she felt the boys finger run across her face, wiping away her tear. She looked up at him, their eyes locking in a moment of complete wonder, the world around them ceasing to exist. Their movements were identical, as if spurred on by an outside force. Their lips met, and the mirror shattered. The image the girl had been forced to see for herself all her life fell away like shards of glass. The empty feeling in the boys chest was filled, like flowing water in a crevice. In that singular moment, they realized that they wanted to be together. They realized that together, they were perfect, and there was nothing that could change this.

Their lips parted, and again, they stared at each other. The both of them realized that their cheeks were streaked with tears. The girl couldn't help but laugh, before she pressed her face into the boys chest, him wrapping his arms around her and holding her close. Out of their childish fantasy's, love had bloomed. Love, the purest of feelings, and the most wonderful. Two starry eyed dreamers, united under the moon. Indeed, they were a match, perfect for each other. However, there was one who would say otherwise...

"Get your hands off of her, you filthy buffoon!" Ice crept into the girls veins, and gripped her like a vice. She turned quickly, her eyes locking on her father. He walked across the snowy ground quickly. The girl stood in front of the boy defensively, but she was quickly thrown out of the way. With a swift right hook, the boy was down, the punch striking his face, loosing blood from his mouth. He feel to the ground, and the man kicked him roughly. The girl did not know what to do. Everything moved to quickly. "I warned you long ago to stay away, you stupid little prick! Now you will learn!" Another kick was dealt to the boys gut. The girl snapped. She moved quickly, her body moving without much thought. With a powerful kick, her foot drove home into her fathers groin, and with a strong shove, he was on the ground. "Enough, father!" she screamed, for the first time ever truly standing against him. He looked up at her from the ground, a mixed look of pain and rage distorting his face. She quickly helped the boy up off of the ground, supporting him with her shoulder "I am done doing as you command me. I am free! He has shown me that!" Tears streaked down her cheeks, but she knew this was the only way. "I love you, father, but you cant rule my life! I love him, and I will stay with him. He makes me feel like I can do anything...I love him father, and that is that." She turned, holding the boy as she walked away through the snow. "Accept this, and deal with the way I am, or you lose a daughter." With those parting words, the girl and the boy left her father in the snow.

Weeks passed, the girl deciding to not go with her father, and instead staying with her mother who lived in town. Her and the boy continued to see each other, continued to dream together. No charges were brought against the girls father, but he had not returned either. The girl felt sadness at that, having hoped that she would not have to lose her father in order to be free. However, the boy was there with her, every step of the way. "He needs more time. He'll come back. I promise." he said, the bruise on his face shrinking. The girl smiled before running her hand along it, and then kissing him lightly. "He can take as long as he needs. With you here, I can dream. With you, my love, I am happy." The boy smiled, and the girl smiled back. They embraced in the sunset, and as the sun dipped, the stars began to come out. Now, she was one of them, just like the boy. Two stars, shining bright. Just two starry eyed dreamers, ready to face the world, together.
