Red Neckerson and His Unique Wisdom?

Dress for success.

By Zelda Zebra

I have this friend Red Neckerson. If you over look the truck that I need a ladder to climb into, and his delight in the crudest of all possible humor he is a sweet red ox, but he comes up with the strangest things to tell me, about country living.

Last week I ran into Red at the local Wall Mart. Now Red is one of the most casual fellows I have ever met. He is always clean but there is a practicality about his clothing that... is completely oblivious to fashion. Red has told me on many occasions that you never know when you might have to do some work. So it is best to be dressed to do that work without a lot of fuss. Red has also told me that when going into the house of the lord it is only respectful to were your very best.

Sunday past in the local Wall Mart I got to see how Red balanced practicality and formality of dress. Gloria was dressed in a lovely yellow sun dress that I had seen twice this year when she would come over for bridge. She had a tiny ivy vine painted in green and blue curling around one of her horns and a modified sun bonnet, cleverly crafted to accommodate her horns. Her jewelry consisted of a simple cross on a chain around her neck. Her hands were bare but her nails were painted with a single ivy life on her right index fingernail. The perfume she wore reminded me of a meadow in spring time.

Red wore a meticulously pressed white shirt with a blue tie, polished black boots, his horns were polished as well, and his navy blue blazer fit him as well as I have ever seen a jacket fit. His bib overalls were starched and pressed to perfection. He had both straps buttoned and even carried a watch with gold chain in the front pocket on the bib.

I opened my mouth to say something but Gloria saved me the embarrassment.

"I married him with my heart open and my eyes closed." Is all that she said.
