My species.

As I am hardly a big name biologist, I cannot say how realistic or plausible/possible this species is. So try not to nit pick too much please. I've done my best.

Advise and suggestions would be welcome. As well as pointing out areas I have missed.

Biology

Name: Zqvtx (Ze-ke-fut-ex)

Latin name: Turbido Priordium (Storm Beginning)

Humanoid, with similar skeleton lay out similar to the human skeleton. Height ranges from 1.8m to 2.4m (around 6ft to 8ft). Average is 1.9m to 2.1m (about 6ft 3' to 7ft 1'). Weight ranges from 10 to 12 stone.

Bones

Like a birds; most of the Zqvtx's bones are hollow - almost completely hollow - but have struts to reinforce them. These struts normally form a triangle shape within the bone, for further strength. However, the main difference from most known life forms is that Zqvtx bones are made out of unique weave of several elements, including hydrogen, carbon and titanium. The result is a very strong and tough material, not that unlike Kevlar or carbon fibre. This allows the Zqvtx to be able to endure much stronger forces before their bones break, while still being lighter then the average calcium bone.

Skeleton Structure

The skeleton structure of the Zqvtx is very similar to that of the human species. With several key differences. In between each individual rib in the rib cage, there is a series of diagonal struts that form a chain of triangles, reinforcing the ribcage significantly. Most importantly, the Zqvtx have a 'keel' bone. Which is an enlarged sternum that stretches across the rib cage, as well as extending down towards the pelvis. Like the similar bone found in birds, it provides anchorage of Zqvtx's wing muscles, granting them the leverage required for flight.

Respiratory system

The Zqvtx Respiration system extremely efficient, able to get a lot more oxygen in each breath then a human can. Again, it can be partly compared to a birds system in that they gain oxygen whilst inhaling and exhaling, so instead of only getting oxygen whilst inhaling. This is because the oxygen transfer is a cross-current system. Instead of the air going into the lungs, staying for a while, then being exhaled - meaning that there is no mixture of 'new' oxygen rich air and 'old' air which has been in the lungs for some time, and full of CO2 - it instead flows into the lungs, then into a several sacks. No actual air transfer happens inside of these sacks, but it allows the air flow to be unidirectional, which is more efficient compared to the bidirectional flow in mammals. These sacks also acts like a set of bellows to push the air to their next destination - which in this case, is into the hollow bones of the Zqvtx. This helps in controlling the Zqvtx's internal body temperature, as well as taking it away from the lungs. The bones in the jaw and the nose have valves similar to those found in the human circulation system, thus the air can only flow out of the bones when exhaled, and cannot come into the bones when inhaled.

In addition, the mouth and nose of the Zqvtx is not the only location of air inhaling and exhaling. There is another two openings - similar to the nostrils - on the shoulders, and a further seven spread out on the torso. Because of this, the Zqvtx can take it a much larger amount of air in one breath. The trachea of the chest and shoulders openings have a fine mesh made out of the same material as their bones, allowing only the molecules of air in. The chest trachea all link quickly together in the middle of the chest, before heading directly to the lungs. The chest and shoulder trachea are all protected from hard by a bone covering.

This increased efficiency is needed because there was a long decline of oxygen concentration in the atmosphere in their home planet. It was originally 20%, like our own atmosphere, however it declined for reasons unknown to 10%. Without this increased efficiency, the Zqvtx would not get enough oxygen into their bodies in order to survive.

Circulation System

The Zqvtx's circulation system is similar to that of the human. With a four-chamber heart pumping the blood around the body. However, the Zqvtx's have three hearts, increasing the pumping capacity and rate of blood flow significantly. All three hearts are able pump blood for the body all by themselves, so even if one or two are injured or destroyed, the remaining hearts can carry on pumping, with the blood flow to the damaged or destroyed hearts being shut of. When all three hearts are pumping, the blow flow is a continuous stream instead of in pulses like Terra Firma animals. In addition, the blood cells are capable of picking up oxygen, nutrients and other elements a lot more efficiently then a human is able to. Because of the higher oxygen concentration, Zqvtx's blood is a brighter shade of red then humans, sometimes even pink. The platelets in the blood system are also more efficient then a humans. Patching up a breach in a blood vessel at least ten times quicker, as well as being able to patch bigger wounds. This severally cuts down on blood loss as well as reducing the chance of infection.

Digestive System

The digestive system is perhaps the Zqvtx's most efficient system. Unlike all other known animals. Zqvtx's have no active waste removal system. Able to disgust and utilities almost anything that is devours. As well as being able to recycle harmful products into useful reactants. Zqvtx's saliva is a highly acidic. Similar to the gastic acid found in the stomach, because of this the surface of the mouth and the oesophagus are made up of acid-resistant cells so that they do not digest themselves.

Language

The Zqvtx's language tends to longer and smoothly then our own. As sharpness is usually related to anger or rudeness. Each word however does have a sharper version of it. Either it it's meant to be a ruder or less polite way of saying the word. Or it's for times when time is short and a message needs to get across quickly.

Numerical System

Unlike the human Numerical system which is a ten-based system. The Zqvtx's have a twelve-base system. As they have 12 digits on either side of the body. Five toes, fives fingers, a wing and their tail (which counts on both sides of the body due to its size and positioning). They do stress the number 10 however, as well as the number 5. 7 is also an important number in their numerical system due to have 7 breathing holes in the chest.

Notes

Need names for 0-12, and maybe 13-36. Then how they count higher then that. As well as their first three digit number, four, five etc. Should create symbols for them.
