Look beneath the mask
It's time to wake, my day begins
My gaze wanders as I pass through the door
I pick a mask to wear today
It fits me oh so well
I walk, and talk
I might pass you by
Nothing seems out of place
No you never question, you don't look beneath the mask
A different day, a different mask
You don't look, but are you listening
No you only hear what the mask is telling you
My cries are muffled by the mask
Which mask am I wearing now
Am I just the mask or someone else
When you touch me can you feel my face
No you only feel the cold barrier that is the mask
I'm being smothered
Who you see and who I am are two different people
You can't see the tears running down my face
You never look beneath the mask
I'm breaking apart
So many masks I'v worn
Their weight is a burden
I don't have the courage to remove them anymore
Another day, another mask
I walk, I talk, and no on notices
Just another mask taking control
I am but one of many, I see that now
It's in the eyes, I see it now
We can look through the eyes of the masks
And see who is hidden beneath
They all seem to beg for release, but the masks stay on
One day you'll see it too
My eyes talk to you, asking for you to come out
Show me who you really are
So that you might come over to me, and look beneath the mask
