#2 of December series

It seems people liked my "December Coffee" story so I decided to make it into a small story arc. It takes place six months after the proceedings of December Coffee and Ethan has finally decided it's time. Although, Akira has a different idea. The next one will conclude this story.

Please read "December Coffee" First. Here's the link.http://beta.sofurry.com/view/316028

I sat patiently waiting for the bus, not to get on, but to meet somebody that was coming off. Six months ago today Akira and I met, it was officially our six month anniversary. My hand quickly patted my pocket, inside was a small box. "Good, I didn't forget it." I would be lying to myself if I said that I wasn't nervous, I checked my pocket at least four times a minute to keep reassuring myself that I didn't forget it. I shielded the sun with my hand so I could see down the road, it had been an early summer and it caused Akira to start shedding. I thought about all the fur balls that had been in my dryer lint catcher just form cuddling. "Just think how bad hers is." A feeble laugh forced its way out of my mouth. Yeah, I was nervous. My ears heard a compression break and down the lain I saw the bus. "She's here." I checked my pocket again, still there. Akira stepped off of the bus looking in both directions before she saw me and started my way. Inside, my heart beaded out of my chest and my tongue felt like I had sucked on a cube of salt. It reminded me of the first time I approached the fox. "Hi hun!" I said reaching out to hug her. She accepted the hug but not willingly, there was something different about her. "Akira, you ok?" I cocked my head to one side waiting for an answer. Her head shook and a sigh came from her muzzle. "It...it's...I...j...just don't worry about it right now. Ok?" I tried to make contact with her eyes but they kept looking to one side. My hands moved down to her sides. "Ok. But I'm glad you were able to come, I have something for ya'." I broke from the hug and beckoned her. "Really?" "Mmhmm! Right over here!" She followed me to a nice shady spot under a large tree. I had set up a blanket with a small basket. Her muzzle showed a glint of a smile but not her usual flamboyant, bubbly self. Instead of asking what was wrong, I showed her to the spot I designated perfect for this moment. She sat down and laid her tail flat on the ground instead of keeping her tail up like she did every other time we'd been with each other. I sat next to her and moved my hand to her paw. The fuzz sent shivers through my bones like always. My other hand opened the basket and pulled out a couple of sandwiches, tuna, Akira's favorite. I tried to interlace my fingers with hers but she prevented it from happening and curled her legs up. Her paws moved from my hand and wrapped around her legs while her muzzle hid behind them. My hand put down the tuna sandwich and, once again, felt my pocket.

"Akira, there is something wrong. What is it?" Her eyes moved over to mine. "Why?" I scoffed and looked at her with a face of duh. "Well, because we shouldn't lie with each other! You know, we have to be truthful." Her paws clenched and a small growl. I tried to use a hand to clear her bangs from her beautiful blue eyes. But a louder growl echoed from her throat. "What's wrong!" She finally moved from the position and stared right into me. "You're just a hypocrite! That's what's wrong." My hands froze and my mouth dropped, what just came out of her muzzle? "Cancelling our dates I have made for the last three weeks and not giving me a definite answer! That doesn't sound to promising." I still couldn't make any coherent words. "I thought so. Tell me why, if you tell me why then maybe, just maybe I'll understand." Her eyes were like lasers drilling into my soul and setting it aflame. What was with this sudden outburst! "Well, foxy. I...I can't say." Her ears laid back upon her head. "You can't? Or you won't!" My head tried to find a way out of this and my hand dug into my pocket and wrapped around the small velvet box that was in it. "Well, both." She scoffed and rubbed her eyes with one paw. "Wrong answer." She stood up from the blanket and started to walk away but stopped for a quick second. "I came not to have a date." She took a quick look back at me sitting on the blanket. "B...but to break up with you. I need truth." My head raced, this couldn't be happening! Akira was the only one, I needed her. I raced after her and stopped in front of the fox. "Come on trust me!" Her eyes moved up from the ground. "Look, Ethan. I'm not sure I can. One of my friends saw you with another human girl last week, it broke everything I had for you. I'm not sure if what we had was just a fancy joke or not. But it's ok, that's the way it should be. Humans stay with humans and furries stay with furries." My head shook again pleading with her, "It's not like that." She moved around me and continued back to the bus. "It's not!" She suddenly turned around her teeth glistening in the bright sunlight. "Say 'I love you'!" Both my heart and body fell to a standstill. "I realized that you haven't once, in all the time we dated you said I love you. Why is that? Huh? Is it because you didn't? Because it was pretty obvious." She stood there waiting for an answer, one that I couldn't give. "I thought so." She said in a cold tone. "At least you were truthful about that." There was a slight pause and a stuttering of words. "I...I'll see you around. I guess." Akira turned her tail to me and walked away. I fell back onto the ground as she boarded the bus. My hand fished the velvet box out of my pocket and I opened it. Inside lay a ring, one that I would be paying off in my forties, but I didn't care. It consisted of three diamonds fashioned in a shallow triangle with the largest at the top. The actual ring part consisted of a mix between white gold and silver creating a color that was just a little bit darker then her actual fur. This was supposed to be the best day of my life. Instead it turned into the worst. Slowly, I picked myself up off the ground and started walking into the city, not knowing exactly where I was going to go. But instinct brought me to a familiar coffee shop, one where the inside looked as though it were someone's dream. My hand pushed the door open making bells that were attached to the handle chirp as I came in, contrary to my mood. Behind the counter sat Sam working at a word search, his eyes looked up to find me standing in the threshold about to break down in tears. "Ethan?" He said and came around the counter to me. "Are you ok?" He looked behind me and out the door. "Where's Akira? You guys always come in here together." I took in a choppy breath. "Yeah." I said staring at the box and twiddling it in my hands. "When we were together."
