Niveus and Dragonlord

You know how there is always that one person who just doesn't fit in due to their heritage? Well, in my school, that would be me. My name is Niveus, I'm 10 years old and attend public school. I live with my mother, father, and at times my older brother Nox (mostly he just crashes and rests after late nights of getting drunk though). I attend a school with a lot of "Pure breeds," including a young pack of pure wolves, whose parents run the main gang in town. Now for the best part, I'm half wolf and half husky.

Waking up at 5 in the morning isn't exactly one of the most exuberant things to do, but any later than that and I would be late walking to school. My parents had to leave for a couple of weeks, so I had the house pretty much to myself until my brother would get home and crash in his bed. Getting myself up and heading to school wasn't a strange occurrence; I regularly took the responsibility of my life. However, one thing was defiantly different today, and did it ever have a good way to mess my life up.

As I left my house, I ran into the officer who hangs around my house. Officer Kagar, a 7'5" bull, loved to hang around my house as much as possible when my brother was home. Before Kagar became an officer, he and my brother got into a rather messy fight. In the process, no one was paying attention to the road as they crashed into a tree. Needless to say, Kagar decided that it was all Nox's fault, and has hated him ever since.

"That worthless inebriated brother of yours home?" He asked in as intimidating of a voice as he could manage. Being at over 7' and me being at 4'7", he really didn't have to try that hard.

"No, he isn't home yet, sir." I replied, lying right to his face. Havening to say sir grinded against me, I hate when people like him use a position of power to claim superiority. I knew if he found out that Nox was home he would probably break in while I was gone and do something to him. All I could think of saying to him was how much better of a man Nox was than him, all Kagar can do is hold a grudge. Nox went to the funeral, and paid for his hand in the misfortune that happened.

"You let me know when he shows up; I have a few words for him. Miserable letch will just drag you down with him; best get him out of your life before you are just as tainted as he is." Most likely he knew I was lying to him. I'm not exactly that good at making stuff up on the spot. "Now get out of here and get to school, if you're late I'll take you in on the spot. Seeing as your parents aren't home I can do that, not like your brother will be able to stop it." At that point I just started heading out, I didn't care to hear anything else from him.

After that little talk I was really running late. So I had to take a couple shortcuts and run a bit of it, luckily I'm used to running a lot. One thing I am bad at, apparently, is directions. I had ventured into the alleyway where Xan and his pack hang out at. Xan is the leader of a pack of pure breed wolves, and one thing they hate is mix breeds, the biggest thing they hated though was wolf mix breeds. Once I realized where I was it was way too late to run away.

"Well, isn't this a lovely surprise," Xan said in a sarcastic tone, "what is a mutt like you doing in our territory." Xan wasn't exactly that much bigger than me, what he lacked in body he made up for in mental advantages. He had a knack at getting people to do things for him, and was good at getting out of situations in a pinch. With these advantages he had a relatively good pack, which means he has the numbers advantage in any circumstance.

"Um, I think I took a wrong turn." I said as I began to back up slowly. I managed to take three steps before.

"Don't even think about running away, Niveus. You may have some stamina, but no one can outlast a pure wolf in a run." Xan knew that little fact very well and so did I. I also knew that he already had someone behind me at this point. All I could do is let out a whimper as I knew what was coming next.
