#1 of The Duel of Legends

Schande couldn't believe his luck. After eight years, he was finally leaving. He was finally getting adopted.

Schande Thompson was a Vulpix. He was rather small for a Vulpix as well. He looked like any other Vulpix, except for the eyes, which were deep sapphire blue. He had been living in a dingy orphanage for almost nine years. His mother, a beautiful Ninetales named Harmony, was killed when a rival clan invaded his clan's territory. Schande's father, a strong, proud Arcanine named Lyall, was the leader of their clan. He...never really accepted Schande. Well, unacceptance is a major understatement. Lyall was devastated when he saw that Schande was not a Growlithe. Lyall's entire family were proud Alpha Male Arcanine. Seeing that Schande was a Vulpix, he refused to accept him as a son, even going as far to give him possibly the worst name possible, Schande, which meant disgrace...

Schande was in his room, positively bursting with excitement. He'd been living in the most awful abode for over half of his life. Not that his early childhood was a walk in the park...being shunned by his father and left as an outcast in his clan and all...but nonetheless, it was better than the life he endured at the orphanage. He was constantly tortured, teased, and tormented. The other children taunted him for his size, his eyes, and especially, his sexuality. Schande Thompson was gay. He had not told anybody, but he was caught sucking one of the other children off. Within a few hours, Schande was known as the fag of the orphanage.

After his mother was killed, Schande had no one to care for him. He had to set off on his own, at the age of seven. He wandered for days, and ended up collapsing right in front of the orphanage. Strange twist of fate, huh? Anyways, he was taken in by the owner of the orphanage, an elderly Lopunny named Mildred. Mildred was Schande's mother figure for most of his life.

Schande finally collected all of his belongings, after practically scanning the cracks between the floorboards, and put them into his bad. He picked the bag up in his mouth, and hauled it out to the front lobby, where his new parents were waiting for him.

He approached the lobby nervously. His mind was surging with thoughts. What were they like? Would they like him? Would they accept him? How would they treat him? All of these questions raced through the little Vulpix's mind. Before he knew it, he was standing in the lobby in front of Mildred.

"Are you ready to meet your new family, Schande?" Mildred said sweetly.

"I-I guess so..."

Mildred hugged Schande tightly, who returned the hug eagerly.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine! They are very anxious to meet you! Come along now."

Mildred led Schande up to the front lobby. He was greeted by three Pokemon, two Raichu and an Ampharos.

"Schande, this is the Harrison family," said Mildred, pointing to the three of them, "That's Eliza, that's Terrance, and this young one is Evan!"

"Pleasure to meet you!" greeted Mr. Harrison.

"Aren't you adorable?" piped Mrs. Harrison.

"How are you?" asked Evan, extending a paw.

Schande took the extended paw, shaking it nervously.

"I-I'm good! H-hi!" Schande stammered nervously.

Mr. Harrison chuckled, "There's no need to be scared, little guy, we don't bite!"

"Are you ready to go sweetie?" asked Mrs. Harrison.

"More than ever!" Schande said excidetdly. He couldn't wait to get out of the orphanage. He was finally leaving all the torment that caused him so much misery in his life. He started to walk out the door, his bag still in his muzzle, when he stopped suddenly. He looked behind him, seeing Mildred standing there, beaming at him. Schande ran up to her and pulled her into a tight embrace, tears leaking out of his deep blue eyes.

"Th-thank you for everything Mildred, I won't ever forget you!" sobbed Schande quietly.

"Oh Schande..." was all Mildred could muster. They stopped hugging, and Schande went with the Harrisons, not looking back on where he'd been. Mildred stood at the window, waving at them.

"Good luck, Schande..." Mildred whispered to herself.
