Heather and Hammy

By Strega

This can't possibly work, Heather thought. Stella had seemed so sure, though, so she smiled and nodded when the squirrel asked his question.

"It's stuck in your throat? Maybe I can reach in and get it! Then I can have the cookie." He scurried up on all fours and looked trustingly at her. "Open your mouth, open your mouth!"

With a slight, theatrical cough she obliged. Hammy looked wonderingly into her jaws as her long, long muzzle creaked open. Further and further she gaped, showing him the vast yawn that is a hallmark of the opossum family. She had more teeth than anyone she knew, but the panorama of needle fangs and crushing molars didn't distract him from his quest.

Without hesitation he stuffed his head into her maw. He stumbled as he encountered no resistance at all, and she reached out to steady him. One forepaw gripped beneath his armpit, helping him climb into her jaws. She couldn't resist grabbing him behind the neck with the other. Looking down past her nose at his rump she suddenly believed it could work. A few good shoves and -

She didn't need to shove. "Wow, you can open your mouth really wide, Heather!" His voice grew muffled as he poked his nose into her gullet. "I still don't see the cookie, though."

"'Ook 'eeper," Heather mumbled, and helpfully lowered her jaws. He was really doing it! As her jaws moved toward the ground the squirrel stuffed his forepaws and head into her throat. Without so much as a light gulp to help him along he wriggled deeper. Already he was to the bottom of his slender ribcage in her maw. How far would this go before he realized what was about to happen?

Oblivious to his impending doom, Hammy stood up to his full height and slid more of himself into her gullet. Heather's long, narrow muzzle encompassed him to the rump and still he wriggled deeper!

"I feel it!" came the muffled chirp from deep in her abdomen. Heather felt the squirrel's forelegs and head slip into her stomach, where sure enough the cookie waited. A smile wrinkled her muzzle as she felt him nibble at the sweet. It was her turn to eat, and her long jaws closed. Chin and nose rubbed the ground as she engulfed the squirrel, only a pair of hindpaws and long, fluffy tail still outside. Heather lifted her head, got Hammy's rump to the back of her jaws with a flip of her nose, and swallowed.

The great bulge of his haunches moved through her neckfur and down the squirrel went, swallowed whole. And still he didn't react! Busily gnawing on the cookie, Hammy didn't notice when she stood or even when her throat muscles gripped down. He just chewed and swallowed, even as with one powerful gulp she sent his rump and hindpaws down her throat. She stretched out her noise as his tail slid in and rubbed her belly wonderingly as the squirrel curled up inside.

The tail tickled all the way down, just as Stella said it would. Inch after inch the fur flattened as the fluffy thing followed its owner into her jaws. She gagged as dry, coarse fur tickled her throat like a thousand feathers. She'd forgotten to lick him like Stella said, to wet down his fur.

It almost made her retch, but there was no way she'd give up her dinner. Instead she clamped her muzzle shut and swallowed with all her might. Hammy's tailtip tickled its way past her lips and down her throat, and her belly bulged as he curled entirely in her stomach. Heather staggered as the oblivious squirrel wiggled around until he was curled up comfortably. He didn't seem to know or care he was in her belly, so focused was he on the cookie.

"Don't forget to burp," came a voice from behind her, and Heather nodded. She squeezed her swollen belly to force out the air and belched heavily. She'd never swallowed anything as large as Hammy and a lot more air went down with him than would have with a mouse. Stella stepped into view and rubbed her belly to help, smiling all the while. The skunkette's muzzle wasn't as long as hers, nor could it gape quite so wide, but that was deceptive. After all, Heather had never even considered eating the squirrel alive until she'd happened upon Stella bolting down a previous Hammy. She'd watched wonderingly as the skunk got her jaws around the rodent's rump and effortlessly dispatched him to her belly.

One more burp and Hammy's confused twitching quieted inside her own pelt. He'd finished the cookie and muffled questions emerged from her belly. Before he realized exactly where he was and what was to happen she hiccuped up the last breath of air and the squirrel settled down as if to sleep. His fur was already soaked with stomach juices and it was a kindness to finish him off before digestion really got going. His last muffled query was where she was and if he could get out, but Heather hadn't eaten him just to let him back out. She'd eaten him because she was hungry, and as far as she was concerned he was just food now.

"Told you," Stella said with a grin. Heather rubbed her swollen belly and grinned right back.

"He climbed right down my throat!", the opossum said, and the skunkette nodded.

"They do that. Squirrels are the silliest things." Stella poked a finger into her flank, amply padded with fat that used to be Hammies. Heather sat down against a tree, still rubbing her belly. Her guts gurgled and churned as a squirrel half her weight began to dissolve. It'd take a whole day to convert what used to be Hammy to fat and nutrients and waste.

"You may have to cough up his fur," Stella said as she gave Heather's belly a pat. "It doesn't digest, and he was an especially fluffy one."

"Is that what you do?", Heather said, and Stella smiled.

"When I get a hairball, yes. It's not all bad! You can wash the fur and keep it. I have a very comfy bed in my den that's made out of squirrel fur. Mostly squirrel." The skunkette licked her lips, remembering previous meals.

"And raccoon?"

"I don't think you are ready for a raccoon yet, dear. When your jaws are stretched out more we can find you one."

"I kind of liked him," Heather said peevishly. "He was nice."

"He was very nice," Stella said, and ran her forepaws down her front as if to illustrate how once she had been so immensely bulged. "Very filling, too."

Heather had to laugh. She rubbed the side of her jaw and yawned experimentally. She didn't think it would be long before she was ready for a raccoon of her own. Maybe not quite as big as the one Stella swallowed, but she'd see.
