The Game

=== ====

The bar was quite crowded. I sat on the side on a matress for taurs, I ordered gin with ice.

  • How's going, fox? - asked Joe the bartender, an old, fur-losing weasel.

  • Going ahead. But I'm burning out, I can't keep this speed much longer. If ...something... doesn't happen, before we finish the project I will be a psychical wreck, and then I won't finish before the deadline. - I sipped my gin - I thought I would relax and forget about the work but I can't. My mind overflowing with conceptions, plans, I just can't stop thinking about it.

  • Gin won't solve that - Joe nodded. - You need something stronger.

  • What? Spirit? Drugs? No, thank you.

  • Eh, Kor, You know me. - he knocked my chest with his finger. - The game. Out of league, amateur match.

  • Eee, the game?

  • You're a predator, aren't you?

  • Actually, foxtaurs never were predators.

  • But they have original fox predator instincts, don't they?

  • It's easy to get addicted to the game and I easily pick habits.

  • And even if so? It's better than burning out.

  • Now this is true. If addiction is the price to pay for my success, I'm ready to pay it. Okay, but who's the game? Playing against bots isn't much fun and don't tell me that I'm to play with you, you're a predator anyway.

  • Oh, don't worry about that. I wouldn't shoot like that...

  • But not a paid player?

  • Whom are you taking me for? - Joe looked at me hurt, while pouring a drink some patron. Just peek into the cabin.

I walked up to one of the two largish black cabins by the wall, there was a "busy" lamp lit, but the "ready" green one too. Third, small blue lamp by the window shutter was lit too - meaning the shutter is unlocked and I can look inside.

I opened the shutter and peered through the glass. I bit my lip. Wow, charming! A doe, young, beautiful long ears, eyes closed, lips trembling in concentration, head rested against the interface pillow, sleek, well muscled body, firm breasts under the T-shirt, a short skirt. She trembled rapidly, then smiled.

I walked back to the bar.

  • Who is she playing against?

  • The bots. For a few hours already. She said she's never been playing before, but she's learning really fast.

  • Is she playing with the chase or by the glimpse?

  • Glimpse only, fast score too. But she said that with a real player she will play full ending, no fast score.

  • Full ending? And nobody's playing against her yet?

  • If I told them, they'd form a queue!

  • Okay, I'm in. Here's a fifty and pay my credit until I tell you to stop - I handed him a credit chip.

I slid the cabin door behind me, locked the shutter and pressed the activation button. I lay comfortably in the chair and rested my head on the interface pillow.

The virtual reality world surrounded me. Main menu over the clouds background. I picked a "duel" and "neighbour cabin". The message "Target busy" meant she's still playing with a bot, so I turned "wait mode" on. I picked the option of training in empty location. A large residence appeared in front of me. Synthetic voice of the arbiter: "Map: Residence. Rules: Empty map." I ran inside, looked around, began sneaking along the walls. I didn't get to train long, when the message "Opponent ready" appeared.

I confirmed cancelling current game and connected. Random map: Library. The doe stood in front of me.

  • Hi. - I said. - Want to play?

  • Hi. Why not? But on my rules. First off, glimpse only. I'm not into fighting, kicking and all that nastiness to win. It's about the sublteity of the game, not about...

  • I understand and agree compltely. Just that "the glimpse" is much harder for the predator.

  • Naturally you get advantage. 3 to 1. Okay?

  • Naturally it would be 20 to 1 but okay.

  • Naturally I'd be dead and your stomach full. To make your life better, full ending, no quick score. Unless you don't want to.

I smiled and nodded. - I'd have to be crazy not to want to.

  • Thank you - she bowed a bit. - Random map. I don't know most of the maps so it's your main advantage.

  • I haven't played myself before too, just watched some of the league championships.

She only smiled.

  • What do we consider a victory?

  • A single play, three to one. Unless we like it, then we play again. Any more questions, suggestions?

  • No ugliness. Exclude the ugliness maps from randomizing.

  • Oh, of course! No ugliness.

  • And some time to learn the map.

  • No more than 30 seconds.

  • One minute.

  • Okay, one minute to learn the map and pick the startup point, but we see each other while learning.

  • Agreed. Shall we begin?

And we began. The randomizing threw us into the same library where we had been talking before. Very small map. A square ring shaped room, worn armchairs and sofas, many book shelves by the walls, the outer walls of the ring several meters long, the inner - a few. I walked around the wing once, checked the doors in the outer and inner wall - locked, just dummies, not exits. The doe sat in one of the armchairs, apparently she knew that map already. I knew it too - the speaker on TV was describing it as the favourite map of masters, giving the advanced predators big advantage, but very difficult for beginners. The moving armchairs and sofas are the only hiding spots, but a clever move, displacing one piece of furniture and hiding behind a different one may give the victory.

The synthetised voice of arbiter was reading the rules.

  • Map: Library. Duel mode, league classification off. Rules: Glimpse mode. The herbivore earns a point for noticing the predator before the attack is finished. The predator earns a point for successful attack. The herbivore needs three points to win, the predator needs one. Start forced in 30 seconds.

  • Ready? - I asked.

  • Long time ago. - she answered.

I circled the middle of the room and activated the game mode while hiding behind a big sofa by the wall. I lay on the floor and watched the room through a narrow gap between the edge of the sofa and a bookcase. I had a good view on a large part of the roomtogether with a corner of the inner wall.

The doe walked from behind the corner, looked around and turned back behind the corner. I patiently watched. Silence. No movement. Emotions rising.

  • If I was a predator and you a herbivore, I'd just win - I heard behind me.

  • Point for the herbivore - said the arbiter.

The doe was standing a step behind me. Apparently she circled the room and sneaked up to me from behind.

  • Have mercy for the beginner - I smiled. - Again.

  • Location mode. Time: 10 seconds - the arbiter voice sounded. Each of us has 10 seconds to find a hiding spot. We don't see each other in the meantime. I ran behind the corner, which I had been watching before. I picked one of the armchairs, cursing my long foxtaur body which I had to maneuvre around the armchair to stay out of her view. This time I listened cautiously and heard which way is she coming from. The plan was: I wait for her to pass by, while hiding from her, then attack from behind. The plan was very good, but...

  • I can see your tail!

I cursed my foxtaur body again, while arbiter announced another point for the herbivore.

  • Location mode. Time: 10 seconds.

I quickly hid behind one of the nearby armchairs. A short moment later she showed up, I saw her through the narrow gap under the armchair - but she turned back again. Here comes my ambush! I pushed the armchair behind which I had been hiding, then quickly hid behind a sofa by the wall. She will notice the armchair had moved, and then I, from behind...

Not a bad plan, but... She saw the moved armchair, walked up to a different one, looked behind it, then without paying special attention to the moved armchair she walked up to the sofa, looked behind it, and the emotionless voice of arbiter announced her third point and victory in the duel.

  • That wasn't really interesting - she said.

  • I didn't have much chance on this map.

  • Once more. A different map.

The map appeared. Egypt. A big one. I looked at the map characteristics in the menu: Large squares, roofs and chambers give the herbivore a lot of room to take time in the glimpse game mode. Numerous narrow corridors, nooks and holes gives a good place in the chase game. Multiple see-through holes for observing the herbivore while hiding and planning the attack are the advantage for the carnivore.

The arbiter's voice was reading the rules. We were standing on a surrounded with high walls square by a big temple covered with hieroglyphs. There were a few other buildings too. Several entrances, including a big one to the temple behind me. The square wasn't flat, but composed of many depressions and hills of regular geometrical shapes. In one place it was forming a long, wide shallow ditch with a narrow stream running along its bottom. The stream was vanishing in an entrance to a underground tunnel, surrounded by scary gargoyle sculptures.

The doe moved towards the tunnel. I, instead of running to see the terrain, trotted inside the temple and bowed low by the wall where the underground tunnel was running. Quickly I found a hole and began observing as she appears and walks slowly and cautiously through the darkness. Even before she passed by, I found another hole. I remembered words of one of map designers in an interview: If it looks scary, it's probably safe, and reverse. The dark tunnel looked very scary, so I expected I will keep observing her without finding a single decent place to attack. Soon it appeared it's even worse: No passage at all, by the next hole my corridor was joining another one which was perpendicular to the underground tunnel. But I knew this map is tricky. I examined the opposite wall and found a hidden entrance to a narrow tunnel on the opposite side, with narrow gaps revealing the underground tunnel by the floor. The doe walks down there slowly, the voice announces 20 seconds to the beginning of the game left. The corridor bends 90 degrees, a short passage and another turn, the corridor is wider here and opens onto a wide gallery over the underground tunnel. I see stairs leading down by the wall of the gallery, and another a bit further by the edge over the tunnel. I look down the first set of stairs - they end several steps below, hanging quite a bit above the bottom of the tunnel. I walk down them a bit, seeing the doe carefully, often looking up climbs the second set of stairs which reaches the bottom of the tunnel. I hide on the lowest step and wait. The arbiter's voice announces beginning of the game... and she turns back through the gallery in my direction. I hide deeper, behind the edge of the gallery, looking cautiously by the edge and meeting her cautious look.

  • Point for the herbivore.

She smiled but she didn't comment. I was grateful for that.

I ran all the way back towards the square, stopping in the first chamber. My feeling was right: she will try to repeat the same route. She entered the tunnel. I entered the secret passage, passed the turns and saw her through the hole. She was walking along the bottom of the tunnel, looking behind frequently. She looked at the staircase hanging from the roof of the tunnel. She cautiously headed towards the second set of stairs, watching the gallery by their end.

I ran quietly to the broken stairs. My whole body was trembling from emotion. Finally the hunt, finally my chance. Just so she doesn't look up, so she walks the right side of the tunnel.

It was over four meters down but I didn't care. Emotions reached the top. A while of weightlessness, landing on four paws, but I raise the front pair already, catching her waist and pulling her to myself, I hold her neck and chin with my hands not letting her to turn her head, not now while she can still win, and I feel her back on my lower chest, touch of her short tail on my member and I push hard and I feel I hit the spot, I'm in, a surprised gasp escapes her throat under my hands, her heat and wetness, yes, she's been waiting for it too, we fall together into the cold water of the stream, I embrace her, squeezing her breasts through her T-shirt, twisting my neck to kiss her and sinking in her to the hilt. We freeze for a moment when the voice announces "Point and ictory to the predator". She turns her head all the way to me, as only does can, kissing my mouth gently, smiling.

  • So claim your prize, knight - she said, lowering her hand between her legs, slowly massaging her clitoris, and my member too. I embraced her firmly with my front paws, reached with my hands under her T-shirt and finding her breasts, reaching with my nose from above, finding her nipple with my tongue, simultaneously rythmically sinking in her. She embraced my head pushing it to hers, whispering that I'm a real gentelman. She lightly grabbed my balls and pulled into herself until I felt I'm passing the point of no return, I inhaled air loudly, feeling as blood fills my penis, inflating it and filling her tightly, locking me in her. I heard her quiet gasps, feeling her warmth and pulse of her blood bringing me over the top. A quiet "yiff" sound escaped my nose, when she suddenly stretched her body, moaned loudly, began gasping hard, her rapid spasms of orgasm joined mine. Her nipples still smelt with fear and excitement, the sharp electrifying feeling when she was squeezing me inside was making me to whistle through my nose quietly from ecstasy and her gentle hold on my balls was driving me mad. I didn't know how long it lasted and I didn't want it to stop, but finally the feeling ended and she moaned quietly, slowly sliding off me. She turned to me, hugged and embraced me. She closed her eyes and soon I saw her sleeping in my embrace, the shallow cold water of the stream under us notwithstanding. I gently took her in my arms and carried her to the bright exit from the tunnel in the distance. When the first rays of Sun reached her, she opened her eyes and embraced my neck, smiling.

  • I'm so sorry, it was so nice, but so exhausting...

  • No problem. Want to play again or maybe we'll have a drink and you'd drop in to my place?

  • Oh, thank you, I had more than enough of the game for today. But your other offer is tempting.

I logged out, left the cabin while the doe left hers, I took her hand as if we had been together for years, and we walked to the bar where Joe was watching us proudly.

  • Joe, one gin for me and for... What is your name anyway?

  • Silly! - she kissed my cheek - Don't you think you should introduce yourself first?
