Chapter 5

"The Truth"

The night was still young when they returned home. It seemed everything had settles down, no demons were spotted in the sky and the moon was shining bright as ever over the wasteland. She parked the ATV back in the containment bay before she left with her daughter to return home. She almost lost her daughter, but someone had rescued her, but who. It couldn't have been him. When they entered their house Mia ran up to her room to get ready for bed.

"Do we have anything to eat?" she asked as she laid in her bed.

That's right, she had forgotten to go by the market and restock on supplies.

"I'm afraid not sweetie, but I will go get some in the morning, just get some sleep."

She gave her little girl a kiss on the forehead before she blew out her lantern.

"Do you hate him, the man that saved me?"

She stopped at the doorway before she looked back at her.

"Of course not, I just didn't trust him."

As little Mia snuggled up in her bed she looked over to her window up at the moon.

"I don't think he's like the others." she replied as her eyes closed.

As she shut the door she thought about what she said.

"Yeah, maybe your right."

The night seemed to go on forever as both mother and daughter slept soundly. The dreams she was having was pretty weird. She saw Satam standing behind her as he wrapped his strong arms around her waist, it wasn't like he was trying to harm her but instead it felt more like a loving embrace, what was this? Why was she dreaming such things? Was he invading her dreams? She awoke as the sun's rays hit her eyes. Slowly she sat up in her bed as she rubbed her forehead.

"What were those dreams?" she asked herself as she looked over to the side of her bed.

Mia was there holding a basket of bread, fruit, and peanut butter.

"It was at the front door this morning." she said as she sat it in her mothers lap.

Attached to the side was a piece of paper. She read it as she heard her little girl skipping out of the room. It read:

I told you I wasn't a bad guy.

She sighed as she looked at the basket of food in her lap.

"Damn you."

After she got dressed as ran over to the ATV shed. Alice was getting suited up along with her boyfriend when she saw her friend ran in.

"Nikki? Today's your day off, why are you hear?" she asked her boyfriend hugged her from behind.

"I just need to go look for someone, don't worry I'll be fine." she replied with a smile.

"Oh, ok well if you find anything remember to bring it back."

While the shed door was still open she hopped onto the nearest vehicle, turned it on and took off into the wasteland. As she drove she thought to herself, was she really wrong about him? It wasn't like he had tried to hurt Mia last night. The heat was starting to bare down on her as she started sweating. Finally she found it again. The old library.

It felt good to be in the shade. The rays of the sun was starting to effect her mind but she had arrived just in time. She took a deep breathe as she approached the stone doors. A gust of wind ran over her body as she walked into the building. It was quiet as she ventured further. She heard a grumble when she approached the bed of rocks.

"Don't you dare try it." a thunderous voice roared from the pile.

The rocks started moving as she backed up. She watched as two white, glowing eyes appeared on the head of the beast, Two arms, two legs, a torso. A rock creature, a honest to god rock creature. He reached out to grab her, that was until he heard a familiar voice.

"It's ok, I'll handle this."

The voice wasn't just familiar to him but to her as well. She looked up on his shoulder, seeing a black figure. She quickly moved as it jumped down, the impact of it left a big crack on the floor.

"What do you want, want to blow my heard off, or maybe you want to expose me to your people?" She said as he brushed off his pants legs.

She bit her bottom lip. She had never said this to a demon.

"I-I wanted to thank you for the food."

His eyes turned to her.

"I'm sorry for assuming such things about you. Maybe you are different from the others."

He smiled as he turned to face her.

"It's ok, your ok in my book." he replied as he patted her hard on the back.

"A quick question, how exactly did you find us?"

"It's not that hard to follow ATV tracks, they lead right back to your town. I just looked around for your house. I knew I had found it when I looked through a window and saw your daughter sleeping.

That explained it. She looked to him as he looked back.

"Can I ask you something though?"

"Shoot."

"Why did you save me, Alice and my daughter?"
