Unlikely Pairing, Part Four

It was a cold, snow-covered evening when a certain feline stepped into the college's library, filled with various furs: some sleeping, some there just for the wi-fi, along with a few ripping fur from their hair in tribute to the Finals next week, and the rare few studying in ernest.

'Hmmm I'm a little early...'

He trotted to the kiosk, where a rather tubby lioness stood, and smiled at her politely

"hi, Could I reserve one of the study rooms please?"

"Surely, can I see your ID?"

He handed the laminated card over, ignoring a whistle from her co-worker, briefly regretting wearing the workout shirt.

"thank you, You're in room 302."

"Thank you Ma'am"

He started off towards the stairs, soon arriving on the third floor, in front of the small room filled with a table and two chairs, plopping down in one and dropping his book bag onto the carpet.

'now to wait...'

As usual, the lazy cat did what he always did: folded his paws on the table, muzzle on top, then promptly fell asleep.

'Zzz'

------------------------- Few Minutes Later-----------------------

"Keith...Keith?"

The cat mewled lazily, and batted the paw poking at his side, snuggling his arms.

"mmm.mgmn...mmm.zzz.."

Giggling, the mustelid leaned over, whispering in the perky ears of the feline

"Kitty want a yarn ball? Kittyyyy~?" He poked playfully at the sleeping feline's sides, which he found out was NOT a good idea.

"mm..m? Mrawr!" with a small mew, Keith grabbed the offending paw, yanking as his right paw pinned the otter on the table with a growl.

"Yeeeeek! K..Keith! It's me!"

Few blinks, and the feline started apologizing frantically, ears flat on his head as he helped the otter up

"ohmygodi'msorryareyouokayididn'tknowitwasyou... [insert gibberish]"

"I'm f...fine j..just uhm...n..nevermind" The otter, blushing yet again, inwardly marbled at his strength: one flick of wrist and he would've had a broken arm!

After some fussing and apologetic glances, the otter fetched his textbook, Keith eagerly explaining each law and principles...

dot dot dot

"so yeah, that is the answer"

Keith smiled, pointing to the differential equation nearly half a page long. Jason groaned and rubbed his temples with a furry digit, sighing.

"ugggggggggh! You serious? THAT whole thing is the answer?!" the mustelid pouted, much to Keith's amusement.

"yup! Just wait till you get to Calc 3. You'll spend Semesters solving one problem!"

Muzzle flashing rows of white fangs, he smiled at the otter, who just buried his head with a thunk.

"don't remind me.. why does a music major need math anyway!?"

"Well you do need to know the derivative of the money earned by working the street corner, and consider your cute smile and irresistible eyes as variables..." He joked, half meaning it.

"w..whey?..h..hey!" The otter pouted some more, before giving a punch to the feline's arm, resulting in a sore paw.

"ow...you work out a lot? It's like a brick wall..." Staring at the hard forearm, Jason could only look at his own twig of an arm, then back to the Adonis-incarnate's arm.

"heh..yeah..I used to be out of shape before I joined the Army...Course for the first few months, I was still the Fatty that couldn't run, but I started working out and.."

Keith flexed, smirking as Jason's eyes grew wide, the skintight shirt barely hugging his flexed frame.

"hehehe...and here I thought you were straight!"

Chuckling, the feline pointed to the otter's black jeans

"w..wh..what are you talking about?"

To his horror, when he looked down, he was hard! Jason quickly covered it with his broad tail, mumbling unintelligibly as his cheeks turned rosy red.

"heh, don't worry about it. Besides, you're kinda cute"

"u..ubub...uh..w.whabu.. what?"

"especially when you're blushing, like right now!"

"h..hey! Who's blushing!?"

The otter only blushed further when the cat pinched his left cheek.

"this cute otter is!"

After some mumbles, pouty faces, and various tussles, the duo exited the crowded library, heading towards the dorms.

"So uhm....you ever had a girlfriend? If you don't mind me asking.."

"well.....no. I was always too busy or too shy...just never could ask anyone out"

"Really? With your eyes, I'm surprised!"

"h..huh? w..what about my eyes?"

The feline withheld his comment, not wanting to weird out the mustelid.

"nothing..So...do you want to come in for dinner..?"

Grabbing a small copper key, the feline chuckled rather darkly

"ya know..the last one didn't go so well, so if you want to go ...I understand"

Fidgeting some, Jason let his guilt win and headed into the apartment...

-------------------------------Few minutes of Burnt food, playful shoves later-----------------------------------

The two furs were sitting on the big futon, the cat humming away to the song from his computer gently, chewing on a piece of cheese.

"so Jason....Can I be honest with you?"

"huh? y..yeah? What's up?"

"What do you think about me?"

"wh..what do you mean?" Keith shrugged and replied nonchalantly

"Well I mean, I see you staring at me whenever you think I'm not looking, yet you tell me you're not get AND you want to be friends with me for some reason?"

"..."

"I just think there's more to it then what you're telling me...."

"I..well...I am...not sure, to be honest." Jason looked up, staring into those predatory eyes.

"Of what?"

"Of what is right and wrong, of why I feel so...at ease with you."

"Do you? That's good to hear. I do hope we can keep being friends."

Fidgeting nervously, the otter fiddled with his broad tail, staring at his sneaker-covered footpaws

"I do too..I just..I've been living by myself since 12, aside from my band..."

"oh..? Do you want to share?"

"well..Maybe not now..I've..gotta go study.."

When the otter stood up, Keith tried his best to keep his composure, letting out a sigh

"ok...well. It was fun, cya next time"

"Thanks for the food Keith."

The otter walked out, waving a paw, leaving the feline to stare at his shorts-covered-butt as he exited the apartment.

'mmm...he must swim or something..anyhow..'

Keith walked over to his bed, seeing the mess on it, just plopped down, siiiighing. The cat stared up at the bland ceiling, his bushy tail curling about his stomach as he dozed off.

'maybe...Just maybe...zzzz'
