A Tragic Loss

So many Pokemon live throughout the vast world. Only a small handful are known for their strong, immense power and rarity. These Pokemon are known as Legendaries.

Eevee is very unique Pokemon, being able to choose from seven different evolutions. Despite this quality that only it possesses, Eevee is not known as a Legendary Pokemon due to it's weak strength compared to one. However, deep in the Eeveelution Forest, one male Eevee would break this rule and become a truly unique individual of his kind. He would become a Legendary Pokemon.

Eeveelutions are said to be hard to find. The reason for this is because they have their own section of a giant forest where they live happily, known as the Eeveelution Forest. It's inhabitants are nothing but Eevee and it's evolution. Two guardians watched over the forest and all who lived within it. Those two guardians were a female Vaporeon, named Hydra, and a male Leafeon named Razor. Their son, Umbro, was heir to the throne of guardianship once they passed on. Although only a year old, Umbro was just as healthy and strong as a three year old Eevee. This is the story of his long journey.

"Umbro!" called out Hydra. She had brought her son to an area in the forest where young Eevees would play and get to know each other called the Eevee Playground. "Umbro where are you!?" she called out again when she didn't see him the second time she scanned the field. The little brown Eevee had wandered off while Hydra was talking to an Espeon, who was the mother of a friend he made named Crystal.

"I believe he ran off in that direction Hydra," the Espeon giggled as she pointed to a small trail that lead away from the normal path. The Vaporeon sighed as she ran off to find her son.

Meanwhile, not too far away, Umbro was following a Caterpie he had seen earlier. The little green caterpillar Pokemon crawled innocently down the path, Umbro close behind it.

"Hey come back here!" he exclaimed happily as he continued to chase the cute Caterpie. After a little longer of chasing, the bug finally came to a halt, as well as Umbro. He crouched down low to the ground, his butt slightly in the air. The young Eevee began to slightly shake his rear, the white tip of his tail wiggling a bit as he prepared to pounce. Before he could make the leap, though, something wrapped around his body and lifted him into the air.

"Hey!" Umbro yelled in surprise and a bit of fear. He soon discovered a mermaid-like tail was hoisting his little body up, quickly identifying it as his mother's tail.

"You're just like your father was when he was an Eevee," Hydra said as she carried her little boy back to the play area.

"Mom! Why'd you take me away from the cute little bug?!" Umbro pouted as he saw the Caterpie grow smaller with each step his mother took away from it. Once they had returned to the Eevee Playground, Hydra set down her son.

"Go play with your friends Umbro."

"I only have a couple friends mom. Besides, I can't find them," Umbro replied.

"Well keep looking for them. I'm sure they're hiding here somewhere." Umbro sighed as he ran back to the playground. Hydra shook her head as she resumed talking to Crystal's mother. "Kids."

"Ha ha at least you only have one Hydra. I have to take care of three boys and two girls," remarked the pink and slender Espeon with a giggle.

"Well that's what happens when you want all your children to be one of each Eeveelution Jewel."

While the two mothers continued to talk, Umbro searched for his two friends, Smokey and Crystal. He searched all around, but still couldn't find them. Eventually the tired Eevee laid down in front of a stump. It was then that a pair of brown ears rose up from the stump, followed by a brown head. The Eevee giggled quietly as she pounced on Umbro. The unsuspecting male let out a small cry as he was playfully tackled.

"Hi Umbro!" Crystal exclaimed happily as she wagged her little tail, her face beaming with joy.

"Hey Crystal!" he greeted happily. "Where's Smokey?

"I don't know. He has been gone for a long time though." In the short distance, up a not so tall tree, the two friends heard an Eevee yelling.

"Get me out of this tree!" he screamed. Umbro and Crystal ran over to the tree and found Smokey stuck up on the highest branch. The two could not help but snicker as they saw their friend just sitting on the branch with an expression of fear on his face as he looked down. His resemblance bore that of a calm but scared cat trying to cry out for help.

"How'd you get that high up?" Umbro asked with another snicker.

"Just shut up and help me down!" Smokey cried out in frustration. It was then that a male Leafeon walked up to the tree.

"Son, how many times do I have to tell you not to climb trees?" he asks with a sigh. The Eevee just continued to sit there, waiting to be brought down from the tree. Smokey's father, Nature, climbed the tree swiftly and skillfully up to the branch his senseless child was stuck on. Once there, the Leafeon grabbed hold of Smokey by his white mane and jumped down the limbs of the slightly thick, not so tall tree.

"Thank you daddy," Smokey expressed gratefully as he ran over to his two friends. Nature just nodded and went back to basking in the sunlight.

"How long were you in the tree Smokey?" Umbro questioned as the three went back to playing in the tree that was set up like one of those things you see at a park.

"So I told him, if you want a sixth child so soon then you go through all the pain," Jewel stated to Hydra as the Eevees returned.

"Seems like he wants to have them all around the same age. I know my brother wasn't happy with the fact that I evolved while he was still an Eevee."

The two were carrying on their conversation when Hydra's fins began vibrating. She looked up and saw dark clouds rolling in and rolling in fast. The Vaporeon ignored this and continued talking to Jewel. Storms weren't uncommon around the forest. If anything The inhabitants were glad to have the rain, except for the Flareons of course. However, this storm wasn't an ordinary storm. Hydra's fins vibrated hard as the clouds covered almost the entire forest area.

"Oh dear it's going to rain. Better grab the children," Jewel announced before starting to go grab her five Eevees. When Hydra didn't follow her she turned back. "Something wrong Hydra?"

"There is something....terrifying about this storm. Grab your children and get to shelter fast," the Vaporeon told her Espeon friend with grave seriousness. Jewel, quite shocked by Hydra's tone, immediately did as she said and gathered her Eevee kits. The three friends said goodbye and parted as Crystal was swiftly and abruptly picked up by her mother and carried away. Nature, following on Jewel's actions, did the same for Smokey. Once his friends were gone Umbro ran over to his mother.

"Mom what's going on?" he asked as he arrived in front of Hydra. Before she could get a word out a thunderous boom crackled across the sky as loud as a sonic boom. The young Eevee began to cry as he cowered beneath his mother.

"It'll be okay son. Everything will be okay," the Vaporeon reassured her frightened child. Deep down inside though, she knew things weren't going to be alright. The rain started to fall from the sky, pounding the forest ruthlessly. The ground quickly turned to mud and small puddles formed with seconds. Hydra grabbed her son and began to glide across the puddles with ease to find her mate.

=========================================

The forest was quickly being destroyed. Trees were falling all over the place. Areas of the forest started to flood. Rocks and boulders were eroding fast.

"Things couldn't get any worse," Hydra thought as she continued searching for Razor. It was at this moment the ground began to violently shake for a few seconds, throwing Hydra off balance. Knowing full well her son's health was at risk, her motherly instinct took over and she got right back into the groove of water gliding. Umbro, in his mother's maw, continued to cry as the disasters continued to grow in severity.

"Hydra!" called out a voice as the Vaporeon passed a couple fallen trees. She immediately came to a stop and looked back. Her mate, Razor, was limping weakly towards them. Hydra placed her child down.

"Don't move!" She ordered her son with a grave tone as she ran towards her injured mate. The Vaporeon prayed that her Leafeon partner was alright. As she got halfway to him a bolt of lightning came down, blinding everyone and stopping Hydra in her tracks. When her sight returned she saw Razor on his side, his body motionless except for the occasional twitch. She slowly walked over to him, tears swelling up in her eyes as she stood over his lifeless body.

The soaking wet Eevee looked around and saw his mom standing over his dad. Umbro then noticed that the tree near them was starting to rip out of the ground and fall down towards them.

"MOMMY LOOK OUT!" Umbro screamed as loud as he could. Hydra was too shocked at her mate's death to hear him. She looked up at the last second to see the tree falling, but was too late. Umbro covered his eyes as the tree slammed into the ground, right on top of his parents. Once it stopped moving and the noise from the crash ended, the young and scared Eevee ran over to the spot his parents were. His father was still in his spot while his mother lay near him, covered in blood. She was motionless, a bit of blood leaking from her mouth.

"Mommy?" Umbro called out quietly as he poked her. By now the rain had started to die down, the storm still there but less severe. "Mommy wake up," he repeated, on the verge of tears. After a couple minutes of waiting Umbro then bit the fin around his mother's neck. This had always woken Hydra up. This time, however, she remained motionless. The Eevee cried hard as he collapsed onto his side and held his tail for comfort. He continued to cry until he eventually fell asleep, the storm quickly dying away.
