Do you know what death feels like? No? I do. It feels like the darkness coming to grab what you have left of your soul after you have been humiliated, tortured, tricked and beaten. Death only comes for the wicked or old...or so I thought. Death now wants to take me with him, ever since it started about a week ago...

"Hey guys! Wait for me!" I yelled out to my friends. They were walking faster after they asked a couple if they were close to a town called Hinamizawa. "Did we come all the way out into the country just for one stupid festival?" I asked Mai and Lucy.

"It's not just a stupid festival. It is a celebration of all that is good and holy!" Mai replied back. "And also, I heard that there are grisly murders every year after the festival, and I want to check it out."

And so, after a few minutes, we finally see the little village. "Are you sure that there is a festival going on next week?" I questioned Mai.

"Don't worry about it Yuu-kun. I did my research and I know for sure that it is next week." Mai said with a smile, bright as the sun as always.

That smile always reassures me for some reason. It's probably because Mai and I have been friends since elementary school, but every time we get in trouble she just has that smile and I know we can get through anything.

"Hey Mai, do you know a place where we can stay? It doesn't look like Hinamizawa has any hotels." This stops Mai in her tracks. I think we know the answer to this one.

"Don't worry about it Lucy, it's not like everyone in town will reject us or something." Mai laughs off the question. I'm not too sure about that, it is a little town and little towns tend to not like outsiders. Well, that's my fear anyway. I have been living in Tokyo almost all my life. But Mai has been wanting to go to Hinamizawa for ages now.

"Thank you for letting us spend the night here Irie-sensei." Lucy, Mai and I all bow before Irie-sensei.

"Oh, it's nothing you kids. I'm glad to be able to help anyone in need." He smiled. "What are you guys here for anyway?"

"My friend Mai here wanted to attend Wataganashi, and so here we are." I explained to him.

"Oh, I see. Well then, welcome to Hinamizawa, and I hope your stay here is wonderful." His face changed for a second, was it a look of concern? Before anyone else noticed he was smiling again.

After Irie left, I asked the other two if they had noticed anything weird about him.

"I didn't notice anything." Mai said.

"Nor I." replied Lucy.

Oh well, I guess I won't know about Irie-sensei for a while. At least we have a place to stay for tonight. "Let's go check out the village for now you guys!" as always, Mai is enthusiastic about our adventure.

We walked around for about ten minutes; we walked anywhere our feet took us. We started to hear playful voices in the distance.

"-na, you can't hide from me!" I can now distinctly hear voices. "Just let us catch you Rena!"

"Oh! Look over there! There are some new people over there!" a girls voice calls out in panic.

"Oh no you don't Rena! You can't trick us!" this time a males voice says in disbelief.

"Oh, Keiichi, Rena's right." A different female says to the boy. "There are people we've never seen over there." I raise my hand high and start waving at them. The girl who just spoke waved back at me.

Once we reached them, I introduced myself and my friends. "Hello, my name is Miyozaki Yuuichi. And these are my friends Lucy Patterson and Otohime Mai."

"Nice to meet you." Said the green haired girl.

"Let me introduce our Game Club. Left to right is: Maebara Keiichi, Ryuuguu Rena, Furude Rika, Hojo Satoko, and myself Sonozaki Mion."

"Nice to meet you guys" Mai said. "I got a question."

"Shoot." Said Mion.

"What are you guys doing?"

"We're playing zombies." Ok, that was kinda creepy. She also had a look on her face to accompany the way she said zombies.

"Mind if we join?" asked Mai.

"Sure, but if any of you lose, there will be a punishment game for you guys." That was when every one of them started looking creepy.

I lean over to Mai and whisper "Are you sure about this Mai? We've only just met them."

"Don't worry about it Yuu-kun. We can beat these kids." She said confidently. And there's that smile again.

"Ok, what will be the punishment game?" I asked them.

"Who knows, it's whoever wins who will pick the punishment game." Said Rika.

"I see. You guys are on." Mai said.

"Ok, let's do rock paper scissors to see who the first zombie is. Everybody ready? Rock, paper scissors!" it seems that everyone chose rock but Satoko, who chose scissors.

"Ok, it seems I'm the zombie. I start looking for everybody after I count to 100 right?" Satoko asked.

"Let's make it more interesting." Keiichi said. "When you answer my question you can start." Man that face looks evil.

"A-alright. Bring it on Keiichi." Satoko looks determined to answer his question.

"If there is 1/7 of cake, 1/6 of cake and 1/5 of cake..."

"Ah! Different denominators!"

"...Satoko decides to eat them in 60 seconds, how much cake is left if she eats all of it?"

We leave Satoko in the dust. "Is it right to leave her with a trick question?" I asked Keiichi.

"Hmm? You're pretty smart if you know it is a trick question." He said back to me.

All of a sudden there is a loud "KEIICHIIIII!!!" man that kid has a loud voice.

"Oh, looks like Satoko figured out the question." Rena said. "And it also seems she's after Keiichi, everybody RUN!"

I see Rena, Mion and Rika speed up faster, I may as well be doing the same. We leave Keiichi in the dust "Oi! That's not fair!" looks like the slowest one will be caught first.

I hide in what looks like a storage shed. I look on the door to see if there is a lock so that no one else will come into my spot to no avail. Just then the door opens and somebody crashes into me.

"Ah! Hey, watch where you're going!" I yell angrily. You know, maybe I shouldn't yell when I'm trying to hide.

"Ahh! Shut up Miyozaki. Or else Satoko-chan might hear you." Too late, I think I hear her now.

"Sorry Maebara, but I gotta split." I flash a quick smirk before heading out.

"Oh no you don't!" I hear an angry yell from behind me and Maebara's tight grip on my arm forcing me to stay.

"Ah! Let go man, I don't wanna be caught!" I yell out hopelessly.

"If I become a zombie, I'm taking you with me."

I try to get away, but as Satoko-chan gets closer I have no choice but to back into the storage shed with Maebara. We notice that neither of us was trying to hold to door closed, but just as we went to close the door Satoko-chan, Mion-san and Rika-chan started opening it.

You know...the scariest thing isn't that they were laughing like witches on a hunt, it was more like they were coming in so slowly that you couldn't bear it any longer. But it was also the laughing that gets to you in the end.

"Well this sucks." Keiichi and I got caught. But while we got caught I noticed Mai laughing at us (she can be like that at times) and then running away. I think Maebara noticed a certain female not helping either and apologizing for not trying to help us.

"It's good that those who were once your enemies are now your allies." Rika-chan said. There's something about her. Something...off. Anyway, back to the game, I don't want Mai picking a punishment game for me because I think I know what she will make me do, and I don't really want that to happen in public.

"Ah, there they go" Rika points out.

"Maebara, you and the others go get Rena-chan, I'll go after Mai." I told Maebara.

Before he could object, I run after Mai. "Mai! Wait for me!" I could see her looking back with a smirk on her face. This continued on for a while, but before she knew it, she was cornered.

"Eheheh, you have nowhere to run Mai, what are you gonna do now?" I ask with an evil grin. Then she did something I did not expect. She ran straight towards me, but that's not it, she tripped. Not on purpose, she actually accidentally tripped and landed on top of me.

I don't know why I didn't try to get her off of me, but it felt good being this close to Mai. Just as we were leaning closer together, we hear a bell, probably signalling the end of class. Mai and I hastily get up and head to the field again.

"How'd it go over here?" I ask Maebara. He didn't answer me, so either he doesn't trust me, or they didn't catch Rena-chan. I'm betting on the latter.

"How'd it go over there?" Mion-san asks me. To that, Mai and I start to blush. "I guess that answers that question." Mion says. "So we have three winners today! Rena-chan, Mai-chan and I!"

"Wait, I thought you were caught too!" Maebara complains to Mion-san.

Smirking, Mion-san replies "I just pretended to get caught so I wouldn't have to play a punishment game."

"Rena and I will decide punishment games for Kei-chan, Rika-chan and Satoko-chan, while Mai-chan will decide a punishment game for Yuuichi-kun." Mion explained.

I have a feeling she's forgetting someone, but it doesn't dwell as Mai forces me to change into a ridiculous outfit. At least I don't look as bad as Maebara does anyway. I am forced to wear a tutu, with a matching tiara. At least the shirt is normal; I also have to wear tights to match the tutu.

"Well, that was fun." Mai said. "But I think we should return to the clinic now."

"I agree, it's almost 8:00 now, but there's something I feel we've forgotten. Something important." I tell Mai.

"I know, I have the same feeling." I look over to Mai, who is looking rather uneasy over the fact.

Once we reach the clinic and greet Irie-sensei, we start heading to our rooms. "Wasn't there another one of you guys?" Irie suddenly asks.

We look to each other and then "Lucy!" how could we have forgotten Lucy? We left there as a group of three and came back as a group of two. "Mai, you stay here, I'll go out and search for Lucy."

"You can't go by yourself Yuu-kun, we don't know if there's any wildlife that will attack you at night." Mai worries over me.

"She's right you know. Not even I know what's out there, and I've lived here for a couple years." Irie says.

"We can't leave a friend out there alone though." I retort. "Who knows if she's out there afraid and alone Mai, we can't leave her there alone."

"At least call the police first. Then I will go with you in search of Lucy." Mai says.

"Ok, but I really think you'd be safer here at the clinic." I try to persuade Mai. No luck, I know she wouldn't want to stay if one of her friends is in trouble.

"I'm coming with you and that's final!" I know when she's serious and can't get her to do what I think is safest for her. That's what I like about Mai the best, when she makes a friend; they are friends until the end, no matter what. Even if it puts her in serious danger. That's why I will protect her from anything that might have gotten Lucy.

A couple hours have passed and we still haven't found any trace of Lucy. We have to call it a night because of the exhaustion of the nonstop searching.

Please be alright Lucy, we will search for you again tomorrow.

We head back to the clinic for food and rest. By the time we finish our meal, we are so tired that we can't make it to our rooms, we just fell asleep at the table.
