Cory fell to his knees, feeling completely lost. He felt like somebody shoved their hand inside his chest, and ripped out the small spark of hope of him being able to see his kids again. His kids, the one thing that he cherished, the one thing that he cared about since his divorce... the only thing that was important to him, was now gone. He didn't know what to do. What could he do? He just remained there, clutching the note in his hand. He felt hollow, cold and frail, as if the life was litterally sucked out of him. Still gripping the note, he lowered his head and slowly raised the note to where his heart was... And finally let the tears out. He didn't give a damn about the fact that there was a grown man standing right behind him, it didn't stop the tears from falling onto the sun scorched porch. You can do whatever you want to a man, and he'll still have a small peice of pride, holding onto it so that they wouldn't crumble. But you take away his kids, and you completely shatter him. He gripped the note with both hands as he continued to cry, which soon turned to screams of anguish and despair. Feeling complete sympathy for his friend, Asher walked up to him, placing a firm paw on his shoulder as he knelt, "Cory... I'm so sorry". Cory just shook his head as he tried to desperately pull himself together. He reached up and gripped Ashers paw, "I just don't understand... why would she do this?". He stood, taking Asher up with him. He turned and looked at the feline in the eyes, "My kids Asher... they're gone...", He pulled the feline in for a strong hug as he wept into his shoulder, the tears soaking through the white t-shirt that he was wearing and damping his fur, "They're actually gone!". Asher reached up and hugged Cory's back, whispering, "Shhhh... it's ok buddy. I'm pretty sure that she didn't act-". He was cut off by a small noise, a noise that only his sensitive ears could pick up. It was high pitched, and it seemed get stronger with every passing second. He recognized this noise, he'd heard it many times before. A high frequency whistle. His eyes widened in horror and he tightened his grip on his friend as he turned away, lifting Cory as he did, and ran back towards his car, "Claudia!". As soon as he shouted his older sibling's name, the house erupted into flames, and an ear shattering boom followed only milli-seconds later. Even though they were a good distance away from the home, the explosion was still strong enough to blow Cory and Asher off their feet. Cory didn't know what the hell was going on, his whole body felt as if it was on fire from the inside. His vision was hazy, all he could gather right now is that he was on the ground, and in the distance, he saw a vague image of Claudia running towards him. She threw his arm around her neck and lifted him, dragging him back to their car. As she did so, she was yelling at him, or more likely, someone behind him. But it was pointless, all he could he was a loud 'beeeeeeeep' noise. But soon, it began to die down, just as she threw him behind the car. His vision also returned, and he could see the fear and anger on her face. While Cory was on the ground, she was in a crouching position. Fustrated she punched the car, "Damn it! I knew something was wrong! But why would they.....", she looked around, barely noticing that her younger brother was gone, "Asher!". She looked around franticly, but he was nowhere in sight. "Claudia! Over here!". She jerked her head around to where his voice came from, and saw her brother hiding behind another car about fifteen feet away. She exhaled in releif, glad to see that he was fine. Asher cupped both of his hands around his mouth, "Claudia! You know what to do! They're coming!". Claudia's expression hardened as she nodded, and reached under their car to grab something. Meanwhile, Cory was staring at the house, completely amazed and terrified at the magnitude of the flames. There was almost nothing left of the house, black smoke was spreading every where. He couldn't even see down the street, he even felt it entering his lungs every time he took in a breath. Something caught his attention though, it was down the street. With all the black smoke in the air, he had to squint just so he could get a good image of what it was. It, or they, looked like four figures, and they were heading towards them at a quick pace. What was funny though, is that it looked as if the half incenerated house didn't even bug them. Another thing, they all seemed to be wearing regular buisness suits, complete with black ties. Had they not of been each a different species, they could've been quadruplets. Cory turned back to Claudia to say something, but was completely shocked at what he saw. Still crouching, she was fiddling with something in her paws, it took Cory about ten seconds for his mind to register what it was. Two guns, pistols to be exact. Once his brain scrambled some words together, he freaked out, "What the fuck are those for?!?". She completely ignored him, "Asher! Heads up!". She tossed one the pistols in the air. Asher reached out and caught it, quickly checking the clip and sliding it back in, he cocked the gun, 'only twelve bullets... damn it! I didn't expect them to strike so soon!'. he leaned to look over his shoulder, and saw the figures getting closer, "Claudia... heads up!". Hearing her younger brother, she checked on their enemie's distance. Cory was still scared shitless out of his mind, all he could do was stare at the gun in Claudia's paw, trying not to think of what kind of damage it could cause. He was brought back when she grabbed his wrist, "Cory, listen to me. I need you to run that way", she pointed in the opposite direction, "To take cover and hide, ok?". Cory felt like he couldn't move, he started to proptest, "what're you talking about?! We need to get help, we need t-". Claudia punched the car with her fist, "God damn it Cory! Listen to me! If you die, this would've been for nothing! Don't you want to see your kids again!?". As soon as he heard "kids", the fear and anxiety was replaced with courage and bravery. His kids... so they're not gone! He'll get to see his kids again, if he gets out of this alive. His eyebrows furrowed, "Alright". Claudia nodded, "Stay low... and whatever you do, don't come out. And don't look, I'm sure Asher doesn't want you to see us like this". He did as he was told, scrambling up a good fifteen feet and hiding behind a stone mail box. Asher slowly exhaled and closed his eyes, he thought this life was over. He didn't want to come back to this, they hadn't bugged him in so long, he thought that he'd actually lost them. It was a foolish wish, but still... he wished it could become a reality. He opened his eyes, but they weren't the calm, freindly eyes that Cory would know. These eyes... were the eyes of a stone cold, highly trained killer. He put on a grim expression as he shouted, "Now!". Simoltaniously, he and his older sister whipped out their weapons and began firing. A second later, the group quickly scattered, since the one farthest to their right received a bullet in the head. But Claudia and Asher weren't the only ones with weapons. They both took cover as they fired back, not even fazed by the fact that they were being shot at. Cory tried to keep his cool, for his freind's sake. They were risking their lives for him, he didn't want to make it worse by becoming a liability to them. But he couldn't help it, every time he heard a gun shot, he would flinch. And he would almost scream every time a bullet ricocheted and landed near him. The sounds, they were horrible. Every time a bullet would land, it would make a loud *ping* noise, which was like death whispering in his ear, toying with him and laughing. Asher reached around the corner to fire once more, neither him or his sister had gotten anyone yet. Suddenly, his gun clicked. He was out of ammo. He looked at the gun in disbeleif, "Fuck me!". He turned his head to the side to shout, "I'm out!". Unfortunately, he heard what he didn't want to hear from his sis, "Me too!". He had to think for a second, what the hell are they supposed to do? There was only one option left, hand to hand. The only problem was... they still had ammunition. He noticed something though, there was a gap of silence, a small one at that. Approxamately five seconds. Either these guys were doing it on purpose, or he and his sister were just fucking lucky. Somehow, they all were reloading their weapons around the same time. Asher peeked around the corner to check on his sister, who was still crouching behind the car, clearly out of options. He pierced his lips and blew out a high pitched short whistle. His sister's ear twitched, and she turned her head to the side to see her brother. Now that he had his sister's attention, he made several signs with his hands. Sign language. Once she got the message, she gave him her genuine 'You're fucking kidding me, right?' Look. Asher just kept his eyes locked onto hers, silently pleading that she'll go with it. After a couple of seconds, she knitted her eyebrows and nodded, obviously not happy with their new plan. Asher sighed in relief, now... they just needed to wait. Both leaned into their cover when bullets went flying, trying to stay out of their way to avoid being shot. Sure enough, the sounds of guns firing stopped. Now was their chance. Asher returned to the spot where his sister could see him, and held out three fingers. 'Three... two... one...' He clenched his fist, and immediatly he and his sister dashed out of their safe spots. Claudia headed for the left, while Asher focused on their right. Asher's target was crouching behind a stone mail box. Realizing that his enemy was advancing fairly quickly, he decided to dismiss his weapon. He stood and threw a punch at the Tiger, who simply weaved to the side. But this guy, a coyote to be exact, was extremely fast. Every passing second he would try to strike the Feline. Asher had to actually back up to be kept from getting hit. The Coyote threw a right jab, but was shocked when Asher caught it. He pulled him forward and delivered three blows, one on the torso, upper chest, and to the head. Before the disoriented Canine could get his thoughts together, Asher twisted his arm so that it was wrapped around the coyote's neck. He held one arm there, and his free arm grabbed the other arm, twisting it so that he couldn't move it. He flexed the arm around the neck, causing his enemy to scramble his legs, kicking the ground to desperately get out of the hold... he already knew what Asher was going to do. The Tiger leaned in to whisper in his ear, "I'm sorry". After hearing that, the Coyote squirmed franticly... but it was useless. Asher shut his eyes tightly... and jerked his arm to the right, a sickening 'crack' being heard miliseconds after. The coyote stopped moving. His eyes still closed, he laid the body down gently. He beleived in respecting the dead, especially if he caused it. Once the body was on the ground, he opened his eyes and stood. He needed to help his sister. Meanwhile, Claudia was dashing towards her enemy, who had his back facing her. When she was close enough to be heard, he spun around, drawing his weapon. Stopping about two feet away from him, Claudia spun on her heel, kicking away the weapon before he could even raise it. Her enemy jumped back, this one being an albino Tiger, his beautiful white fur shimmering in the sunlight, the black stripes fusing with his suit. Claudia raised her fists and was about to strike, but she stopped. She stared at the tiger....no, it couldn't be.... could it?. She widened her eyes, "Chris?.... is that you?". The Tiger smirked, " 'Ello beautiful, ain't seen you in a while". He spoke with a strong austrailian accent, his voice sending memories from the past through Claudia's mind. Happy memories, full of the fun times that she had spent with her bestest friend... ******************** The sky was a brilliant blue, a few clouds here and there. A soft, cool breeze flowed along the huge, vast green valley. In the center of the valley, was a small playground. Kids were running around, either playing with their friends or simply enjoying a swing by themselves. Right behind the playground, was a large green hill, elegant dandylions speckled all over it. On the top of the hill was a gargantuous tree, overlooking the humongous valley. Its leafs were bright orange, a few hundred surrounding the ground around it. Every time a breeze went by, a few of them would be picked off, descending to the ground to join their fallen bretheren. You could see everything from this spot, it was the perfect vantage point. Sitting at the trunk of the tree, was a small, ten year old white Tiger. He was wearing some shorts and a small t-shirt with his favorite cartoon character on the front. He had his knees closed up near his chest, with his arms crossed on top of them. He had his head resting on top of his arms, his stripped tail wrapped around his ankle. On his face, you could see a small line of his fur hardened and crusted from recent tear drops. Every now and then he would sniffle, he was glad that no one else came up here. This was his speacial place. He heard a leaf crunch, and he jerked his head around in response. Standing about three feet away from him, were two Tigers. Except these had the normal color patterns of their ancestors. Now fully alarmed, the white Tiger backed up, anger plastered on his face, "What do youv want?! Are you here to pick on me too?!". The other two Felines exchanged glances, then the sister looked back at him, "We're not here to pick on you, I just wanted to know why you're up here by yourself". She seemed older than the other Tiger, much older... more mature than most of the kids he saw every day. He looked at the younger Tiger suspiciously, "And who's he? Why is he here?". The younger Tiger noticed, and he quickly moved behind his older sister to hide from the unfriendly gaze. She nodded her head towards the Tiger behind her, "That's my younger brother Asher, and I'm Claudia". The introductions seemed to ease his alertness, he sat up, "how old are you?". She smiled softly, "I'm ten , and Asher's eight, how old are you? Better yet, what's your name?". The white Feline thought about it for a second, then decided it was safe to proceed. "I'm ten too... and my name is Chris". Her smile seemed to grow, "Chris... why're you crying up here by yourself?". Chris pressed his ears against his skull, obviously embarassed. He siged, "I'm up here because everyone thinks that I'm a freak". She gently took a seat beside Chris, "how so?". Chris stared at her in disbelief, "Look at me! I've got white fur! I'm supposed to be orange. All the other kids pick on me because of my color. They say that I wasn't supposed to be born... the only people who actually talk to me is my parents". Claudia listened intently, her little brother still hiding, but listening as well. Just as she was about to reply, Asher spoke up first, "I don't think you're a freak". Chris looked up, completely perplexed, "Really?". Claudia chuckled, "yeah... my words exactly. You're not a freak Chris, people just pick on you because you're different. My parents always tell me and Asher that being different is one of the best things you can do, it makes you unique from everyone else". She stood up, Asher following suit, "So come on! Let's go get you some friends!". She held out her paw, but Chris just remained there, staring at the ground, "I've already tried that, no one wants to be friends with me because of the way I look, they also pick on me because of my funny accent". Claudia frowned, then smiled as she crouched back down to look into Chris's beautiful baby blue eyes, "Well then, I guess me and Asher are the only friends you'll need!". Chris widened his eyes, "really?! You mean it?!". Claudia responded by grabbing his paw and pulling him up with her, "Of course I do! Me, you, and Asher... that's all we need! What do you think about that Asher? You wanna be friends with Chris?". Asher nodded enthusiasticly, a huge grin spreading across his face. Claudia laughed, "We'll be best friends... all three of us!". She wrapped her arms around Chris and Asher, pulling them in, "And who knows? Maybe we'll all live together when we get older! We'll buy a huge house and never be sad!". Chris laughed, along with Asher, happiness and joy replacing the anger and sadness that was in his heart, "Yeah!". All three of them smiled as they looked up towards the sky, as if they could see their perfect version of the future reflecting in the blue heavens. But none of them felt better than Chris... who finally felt accepted among society. He felt peace.... He was finally happy. ******************** The airport was busy, hundreds of people moving back and forth trying to get to their flight. The distant sound of planes taking off could be heard through out the whole building, shaking the ground and windows as they started their individual departure. Standing at one of the flight gates was Claudia, Asher and Chris. Claudia crossed her arms and sighed, "I-...I just can't believe you've gotta go so far away". Chris just looked towards the ground as he shuffled his bag over his shoulder, "I know. You know I would stay if I could. But... that's just the way things are, I can't control them". She still didn't seem to feel better, so Asher decided to help by putting his arm over her shoulder, pulling her into a mid hug, "It's ok Chris, we understand. It's just gonna be really hard to say goodbye, after all... we've been friends since that day....". Chris just smiled softly as he looked towards the ground, remembering what was one of the greatest days in his life. How did he ever get lucky two come across two magnificent people, and better yet to be able to be friends with them since his childhood. He grinned widely as he looked back up to his best friends, "oi!, it's not like I'm gonna be gone for the rest of me life!". Claudia just frowned, "Yeah, and your "job" requieres you to stay completely isolated from everyone you know". Chris shrugged, "Well yeah but...-". The Tiger kept on butting in, "You can't call or write anyone, we don't know where you're going and you're acting as if you're scared to tell us!". She took in a deep breath as her brother squeezed her shoulder to comfort her, he knew this was hard... hell, it was hard for him! Claudia knew she was getting worked up. This was the last time she was going to see her best friend for god knows how long, she needed to savor this moment. Recomposing herself, she took a step forward and wrapped her arms around Chris's neck, pulling him in for a hug. "I'm gonna miss you a lot... I hope you know that". He just chuckled as he hugged her back, "I know love, but I'll be back before ya know it". A voice on the intercom anounced that flight 320 was ready for departure, Chris's flight. Claudia just tightened her hug and then took a step back, "You'd better go... you wouldn't want to miss it". Chris nodded as he turned, waving to Asher as he headed towards the gate. Right before he vanished out of their sight, Claudia called him, "Hey Chris!". He turned around to see her smiling, a playfull look in her eyes, "Don't forget to keep your promise!". Chris just laughed as he turned towards his flight. ******************** Claudia shut her eyes tight, then opened them again, she needed to get herself together, "Chris... ". Chris just flicked his wrist, and a small, silver blade slid out, it's clean surface shimmering in the beautiful afternoon light. Not even a second after it slid out, he gripped the handle and slashed at Claudia, who jumped back in pure shock, "Chris! It's me, Claudia!". But either the words didn't get to him, or he just wasn't trying to listen, all he did was continue to slash and swipe the blade, each attack missing Claudia by mere millimeters. All she could do was continue to dodge, trying to not get hit. She could even hear the blade cutting the air, creating a distinct whistling noise. There was something wrong though, she noticed that each swipe was... held back, just a little. Hesitation. Thinking about this she was unfocused for about two seconds, but that was enough time for Chris to create a huge gash on her right arm. She jumped back in pain, grasping her arm. It was pretty deep, she could feel the blood soaking her paws. The pain was intense, her nerves were on fire, burning everything inside. It didn't seem to phase Chris though, since he raised his arm for another strike. Claudia watched as he lifted the blade... and her body went into auto pilot. Before he could bring the knife down, she reached up and grabbed his wrist. She pulled forward and punched under his arm, right on the elbow joint. He yelped in pain, but it wasn't over yet. With her free paw, she grabbed the blade out of his hand and flipped it so that she was holding it under hand. Instincts now driving her mind and body, she slashed at her best friend with blinding speed. If Claudia was good with any weapon, it was always a blade. A grotesque "shlik" sound could be heard as she started from his waist and ended at the top of his chest. He exclaimed in pain, a distinct "Z" marked on his suit, blood soaking the black and white cotton. Claudia threw the blade away from them and spun on her heel once more, this time delivering a spinning kick to Chris's jaw. He spun around from the force of the blow, and was suprised to see Asher with his arm cocked back, waiting for the right time to strike. He sent a right hook to the white Feline's jaw, on the opposite side where Claudia struck him. Like her kick, the punch was strong enough to spin him around so that his was facing Claudia again. Now... she decided to finish this. She grabbed his shoulders and flipped over him, but instead of land on the ground behind him, she pressed her right foot on his back and pressed down with all her strength. As she landed on the ground on her back, Chris was sent flying. He hit the ground with a hard thud, and didn't move. Claudia quickly recomposed herself, her brother helping her up, "Was that Chris?". Claudia nodded, "yeah... it's him". Asher just raised his eyebrows in disbelief, "Holy shit...". Just as they were about to relax, an ear shattering pop came from behind them. Asher grunted, and fell to the ground, gripping his shoulder. Blood began seeping through his fingers... then it hit him. He just got shot. Claudia widened her eyes, the fourth guy... they forgot about the fourth guy. "Asher!", she knelt next to her brother, holding him gently. She looked up to see who had shot him. There he was, plain as day with a pistol in his hand. Just like his allies, he was wearing a suit... a serious, deadly look on his face. Claudia snarled, "You bastard! Why can't you guys just leave us alone?!?". The human's expression didn't change, "It's our job Claudia... you knew that you two couldn't run forever". Asher shut his eyes, 'damn it!... Cory.... I hope you've used this time to get as far away as you can'. Claudia just shut her eyes as she hugged her brother tightly. The human raised the gun, "Luka sends his regards". The siblings waited for death, another loud, fearsome "pop" was heard. But neither of them felt any pain, so they opened their eyes, and were suprised to see that they were still alive. The human was still standing there, a shocked expression on his face. He lowered the gun and looked towards his stomach, blood soaking his clothes. He looked back at the siblings, "Damn... ". Another pop was heard and his head flicked back, and he fell to the ground. Standing directly behind them with a gun in his hand and a grim expression on his face, was Cory. He scowled, "You shouldn't have fucked with my kids, you sorry son of a bitch!". Asher shot up to his feet, ignoring the pain completely, "Cory!". He jogged towards his friend and threw his arms around him, "Thank god you're ok!". Cory returned the hug, "I should be asking that, you're bleeding". He backed up to look at the bullet wound, the clothes around it were soaked and damp with blood. Asher just shook his head, "I'm fine, we've got the med kit back home, remember?". He looked for Claudia, who was standing over Chris. He walked over, Cory following suit. The white feline was pretty beat up. His clothes were ripped to shreds and blood was every where. Asher set a hand on his sister's shoulder, "Is he alive?". Claudia nodded, "yes, but barely". he walked over to Chris's feet, he knew what to do. He grabbed his waist and lifted him off the ground, wincing from the pain in his shoulder. Claudia was perplexed, "What're you doing?". Asher just grunted, "We're taking him back home with us". Cory took a step forward to try and offer his help, but asher just waved his hand, "It's ok, I've got him. C'mon, we need to get the hell out of here....". ******************** Holy shit! That was fun. Ok, so this took longer to write than I thought and I'm really sorry to everyone who had to wait. But with school and life in the way, it was very, very difficult. Well I hope you guys enjoyed it, because I sure as hell did! Oh, and I apologize for the format, there's nothing I can do about it for now. Well TFEFS, it's all up to you now! Have fun ;)
