DAISY AND BOSS: 13.5 - Ring Ring...

Tuesday almost snuck up on Daisy. Monday night after dinner found her sitting in front of the TV with Clover and Petunia, watching a dvd when the phone in the kitchen rang. A moment later her mother stuck her head around the corner and called into the living room.

"Daisy! Phone!" Daisy whipped around from where she was sitting on the couch, realizing who it must be she dashed into the kitchen and snatched the phone out of her mother's hand.

"Hello!?" She gasped into the receiver.

Boss chuckled at the clatter followed by the breathless greeting. He was just clearing out of his office and thinking about the plan for tomorrow. He found that his train of thought was completely derailed as Daisy's voice sounded sweetly in his ear.

"Ah, Hi!" Boss grinned, "It's Boss."

"Hi! How was your weekend?" Daisy's voice was hesitant but cheerful, and Boss suddenly imagined her, standing there on the phone, fiddling. Forgetting suddenly what he was doing with the file in his hand, he turned around in a little circle, his tail wagging of it's own accord and whacking against the desk corner painfully.

"Ouch! Oh, my weekend was good, I worked, made some progress on a few cases I'm working on... you know, work..." He said, wondering why suddenly he felt so awkward. But the truth was, he had spent all week thinking about her.

"Ouch?" Daisy asked, a smile in her voice. "What was ouch?"

"Oh, I whacked my tail on the desk... turning around... damn thing has a mind of its own sometimes." Boss flushed, and shoved the file in his paw into the filing cabinet, shaking his head at himself.

"Oh, don't do that!" Daisy laughed. "I like your tail..." Boss grinned and readjusted the phone against his ear.

"Yeah... I kinda noticed that." He murmured, remembering the way she had stared at it, her face full of covetous curiosity.

Daisy blushed furiously as she stood around the corner with the phone, stretching the cord to it's maximum length in her effort to keep her mother from eavesdropping.

"Well, it's a very nice tail..." Daisy picked at a corner of the wallpaper in the hall, a stupid grin plastered on her face. Even though she couldn't see it, she could hear him smiling too. The silence stretched a fraction too long, but Boss saved them, barreling ahead in a different direction.

"I took the afternoon off tomorrow, is it okay if I come pick you up around two o'clock?" Boss asked as he picked up his coat and headed of the elevator. Daisy was quick to reply.

"Yes! Two sounds good. The career counselor said to show up around 3, so that should work just fine. I'll be ready." The doe realized she had picked a sizeable hole in the wallpaper and dropped her hand from the wall guiltily, hoping her Dad wouldn't notice.

"Good. After, we can go get something so eat, I have something to talk to you about, but it can wait until tomorrow." Boss sighed and leaned his head against his car, cursing Dani Hardy in his brain. "Ah, also, my partner, Danielle Hardy, might join up with us at some point." Boss gritted his teeth and unlocked his car.

"Partner?" Daisy asked, confused.

"Yeah, she wanted to meet you." Boss sighed. "She's curious, I guess. But it should be fine, I told her to be on her best behavior." Whatever that's worth. Boss added silently. There was a pause as Daisy mulled it over. She tried hard not to be disappointed, but she really had been looking forward to spending time with Boss, and the thought of another fur tagging along on their get together bothered her a little bit. She was surprised by her own reaction, and so when she spoke her voice was overly cheerful in compensation.

"That sounds great!" Daisy bubbled. "I cant wait to meet her!" Boss chuckled at her enthusiasm, even though he recognized it for what it was.

"Don't worry, we'll ditch her as soon as we can. See you tomorrow?" He was still standing next to his car, the door ajar, the reflection in the tinted windows showing him at an up angle just how retarded of a grin he had on his face.

"See you tomorrow." Daisy agreed with a soft laughing exhale. There was absolutely no way she was going to sleep, she realized. She was too excited. Electricity zinged up her spine and her tail was a flicking blur.

"Alright, have a good night, Daisy. Sweet dreams, okay? No nightmares." Boss murmured, fiddling with his keys. Daisy leaned her head against the corner of the wall and nibbled her lip, holding the phone with both hands.

"I'll try." She promised.

"Bye."

"Bye-Bye..."

Boss reluctantly took the phone from his ear and hung up, standing for a moment afterwards and staring down at the phone. He shook his head at himself and climbed in his car, but the smile on his muzzle remained the rest of the drive home. At the apartment, Dani was uncharacteristically quiet, simply watching him with keen eyes as he hung up his duster and put his briefcase in the hall closet. The mare merely smiled a knowing little smile when her partner floated around the apartment in a daze, preparing for bed. Tomorrow was going to prove very interesting, she just knew it.
