Chapter 3

"The Witch that Saved His Life"

He could believe what had happened, he had been banished. For what, pulling a sword out of the ground? Of course it was a cursed sword, it would have probably been better if he had left it there for someone else to find instead of him. Gerald and his few friends would all be gone once he walked out of the kingdom boundary. The counsel had given him one night to pack what he could, in the morning there would be no turning back. He didn't sleep as well as he had other nights, he just kept thinking of what would he do and where would he go. How would he earn money to find a nice lodge to stay at, or even feed himself. It was a terrible thought, but he had to make to with the hand he had been dealt.

When the sun shined over the horizon many of the towns people gathered on the sides of the street as they watched him walk out of the house. He never thought that this many people actually cared about him, or maybe they were glad that they wouldn't have to put up with his shenanigans anymore. Gerald had quickly crafted a holder for the sword that Yelmi strapped to his back, it was light and comfy even with his back over his shoulders. He looked down the pathway before he started walking, he didn't look at anyone that was until he heard Gerald yelling as he ran towards him.

"My son wait!" he said as he huffed and puffed.

"I have something to give you, it's something that the king gave his son and he wanted to give it to you so that you would be safe."

He opened his hand to reveal a circular pendant that had ancient text inscribed around the center circle.

"It will hide your magical aura from Oblivion and his henchmen. Never take it off, keep it around your neck at all times."

He dropped it into Yelmi's hand before putting his hands on his shoulders.

"I know you didn't intend this to happen, trust me when I say that I, along with the king, will find a way to undo the damage and bring you back."

"What I have done is my own doing, there is no turning back now."

He gave Gerald a smile before he continued down the path toward the exit. As he approached he saw King Fredrick standing in his way. He didn't step aside as he got closer.

"Be very careful Yelmi, that sword contains more power than you might think. Don't let it's power overwhelm you. Where there is darkness there is light."

He didn't quite understand what he meant, but he remembered it nonetheless as Fredrick stepped out of his way. As he walked over the small bridge that connected the town to the land the gate closed behind him. He looked back one more time as his two friends waved goodbye. This would possibly be the last time he would see them.

He had a plan on where to go, but it would take him a couple days to get there. If he followed the river he would pass by the town of Nandale. It was a small town and he knew people there from when him and Gerald visited a couple years back. Surely they would give him a nice, warm place to sleep and food to eat. Being outside of the kingdom walls really did relax him as the river flowed and the birds chirped. He had almost forgotten about everything until he heard his stomach gurgle. That's right he hadn't eaten anything that morning. He stopped over the kingdom walls were out of sight and sat by the river. He remembered that he had packed two small loafs of bread in his bag. He sat on a nearby rock and threw his back to the ground before opening it. He pulled out one loaf and broke it in half, taking a small bite. He had to conserve what he had, if he ate it all now he would be starving by the time he reached Nandale.

He felt it getting a bit breezy so he dumped everything out of his bag and took out his elemental jacket. He had been rewarded the jacket after passing his final elemental test. He took the sword off his back as he slipped it on, he tightened the straps around his wrists before tossing the sword back on his back. As he got up he felt something thumping behind him. He felt cold shots flowing down his spine as he stood still. He gripped the swords hilt, but before he could pull it out something hit against him, knocking him right into the river. He gasped as he rose to the surface, seeing a dark figure looking at him directly through the trees. He was wondering why it wasn't chasing him, it wasn't clear until he turned his head and listened. He was headed right for a waterfall.

He tried to quickly grab a shoreline rock, but they were all to slippery. He struggled against the current as it carried him closer to the edge. He closed his eyes and focused in the ground, but the water kept sweeping his hands away. This was it, his final moments. He closed his eyes as he felt his body thrown off the edge.

He thought he had died, his body felt cold, but when he opened his eyes he saw a wooden roof above him. As his eyes came back into focus he could see candle lit everywhere, jars of liquids covered the shelves and books covered the wall behind him. He had no idea where he was, he had to find out who lived here and thank them for saving them. He thought everything was ok , but as he lifted his left leg he yelled out in pain. It felt so bad, as if the bone had been broken in half. He didn't care uncover the sheet that covered his lower half. As he sat there grunting he heard a voice coming from the room in front of him.

"It's ok, you will be fine." said the soft female voice.

He watched as a black hair, yellow eyed buxom girl walked into the room. He looked her over, her single black outfit curved around everyone of her curves, she had two dark pink ribbons in her hair, one on each side of her head, and her fingernails were painted black.

"You shouldn't move, your leg is in pretty bad shape. Just stay still for a moment while I ready the potion."

He couldn't speak as he watched her flip open one of the books on her desk. She took out three jars from her cabinet, one with red liquid, one with yellow liquid, and one with blue liquid. He watched as the jars moved on their own, each pouring their contents into the larger glass. A purple puff of smoke rose from the glass as the jars landed back on the table. She picked up the glass and walked over to him, holding it down for him.

"Don't be scared, I'm not going to hurt you."

He looked at the liquid before looking back up at her. He breathed in and pushed the glass to his lips. At first the liquid didn't taste bad, but then it got worse. He had to hold it down. After the last drop he dropped the glass into his lap. He felt like he had just drank a glass of urine.

"Now stand."

He looked up before shaking his head.

"Oh come on you big cry baby." he teased, grabbing his arm, pulling him up on her own.

"Wait...." he said, preparing for the pain, but it never came.

He looked down and turned his leg slightly, it didn't hurt anymore. He hopped around on it and it still didn't hurt him.

"Yay, my first potion work!" she cheered.

He stopped hopping for a second. First potion? He didn't feel any different and his leg didn't hurt so he didn't care.

"Thank you very much....uh."

She giggled as he tried to thank her.

"Salena., sorry if I scared you. I found you washed up on the coast line this morning and I brought you back here. I'm guessing your Yelmi."

He looked at her suspiciously, how did she know his name.

"That's the name it has inscribed on the scabbard that your sword was in."

"My sword, where is it?"
