"Banishment"

It seemed like a dream to him, the kingdom was in flames, the citizens were now slaves to a dark lord, and the four great kings beheaded and their heads stuck out in front of the enormous empire. He could hear a faint voice off in the distance telling him to wake up. His eyes opened in an instant and he found himself against a wall, the sword he had found in his hand. He could remember what happened, he remembered the chamber but he didn't remember pulling the sword out of the ground. The back of his head hurt, he reached back and ran his hand over his scalp, luckily he wasn't bleeding, but he did have a slight headache. He didn't know what had happened, or what the sword was and why it was hidden, but he was going to find out.

After he found his way out of the cave he saw that the moon was now high in the sky, he must have been passed out for some time. He knew Gerald would be worried about him and so he started walking towards the entrance of the kingdom. He looked around but didn't see many people out, a couple of stand owners but no one else. As he saw his house he saw that the lights were on. His stomach was grumbling as he could smell the cooked pork that Gerald cooked at times. As he entered the house he looked around in the den to find nobody.

"Gerald?" he yelled, waiting for a response.

"In the workshop young Yelmi!" he heard.

Before heading down into the workshop he grabbed a piece of bread and took a bite. He heard Gerald grunting as he banged his hammer down on a piece of metal.

"Where were you Yelmi? I almost sent the guards out looking for you. What kind of mischief have you been getting yourself into?" he asked, hitting the thin piece of metal one last time before dunking it in a barrel of water.

" I wasn't causing anything, I got knocked out. I found this while I was out." he sad, placing the sword on the wooden table.

"Well lets see what we have here."

Gerald examined the blade, running his finger against the edge. It wasn't until he looked down at the eye that was centered between the guard and hilt that he dropped his hammer.

"Yelmi, where did you find this?" he asked, looking as if he had seen a ghost.

"I found it in a secret room under a cave." he answered.

His hands shivered as he picked up the sword, gripping it tight. He didn't have time to ask questions, he needed to get to the Counsel of Fate quickly. He grabbed Yeli's wrist and started pulling him up the stairs and out of the house.

"Gerald... what's wrong?"

He didn't reply, but Yelmi knew something was wrong. What could he have done wrong this time? As they approached the gate two guards stopped them.

"Reason for entry?" one asked.

"We need to speak with the counsel, its urgent." Gerald said, showing them the blade.

They looked at both of them before opening the game. Gerald thanked them as they entered the courtyard. Yelmi had never seen the castle before, he had only seen the courtyard and the many small fountains that it contained, but he knew it wasn't time to be admiring the architecture. There were two more guards by the doorway, but since they knew the elder well they let them pass without any question. They pushed open the doors and inside was the king dressed in his red cotton gown and four men all dressed in white robes.

The counsel was a powerful group, they were the only ones who could overrule the king if need be. Each of them were from one of the four kingdoms, but today they gathered to discuss important matters regarding all kingdoms. As they entered everyone turned their eyes towards them.

"What's the meaning of this Gerald? Should you be home getting some rest?" asked Fredrick.

"I am deeply sorry by brother, but this can't wait. My boy found something that might be of interest to you."

They approached the counsel before Gerald pulled the sword out from behind his back. He tossed it to the ground, no one dared to touch it.

"It can't, is that?"

"The blade of Oblivion."

"How did you come in possession of it?" one of the counsel men asked.

"I found it." Yelmi said, stepping forward.

"It was implanted in the ground half way and I guess I pulled it up."

They moved closer to him, one gripping his shoulders.

"Do you have any idea what you have done, you have just doomed us all."

Hs heart skipped a beat as he heard "doomed".

"Boy do you have any idea who use to wield that blade? The dark lord of the shadow empire, Oblivion. A ruthless leader, he killed his own people just for fun, including children. He would slice up their bodies just to feed his pet dragos."

"But he is dead, so there is nothing to worry about."

They shook their heads.

"He wasn't dead, just merely sealed away, inside his own blade. Didn't you see the magic seal on the floor when you entered the chamber?"

He had seen something that resembled a seal, but the markings were too faded.

"With the sword drawn from its resting place you have set free Oblivion and his minions and all the dark creatures he controls. With that blade here we are in terrible danger. We must get rid of it."

"Then lets throw it into the river and let it carry it out to the oceans." Fredrick said, picking up the sword from the ground.

"No, the sword will return to that who pulled it from its resting place. It can't be lost. The only way to make sure the kingdom is safe at least for now is to banish that who pulled the blade."

They all looked over at young Yelmi, their eyes fixed on him.

"Come now, surely there is no reason to banish him. We can fight the dark lord and dispose of him."

"Don't be a fool Fredrick, the Oblivion was able to defeat out most talented warrior, your own son. I'm afraid that this is the only way to make sure our kingdom is safe, he is probably already tracking the sword. Yelmi, im afraid that you are hereby banished from the kingdom and can never return." the counsel man said.

What had just happened?
