Authors note:

This is my world one in which I am inviting you to participate in. I would like to see others who a are willing to increase their writing ability to contribute to the next work. Please note this is only one story and only part of one story. Their can be always other stories which are not told that I wish you would tell. construction on us route 2 has once again been postponed. Construction workers have unearthed human remains that appear to have been form an unknown Indian tribe. The archaeologists have been told to record what they can and save what they can in 4 weeks so construction can proceed.

Archeology Today

The natural history museum in Columbus Ohio has started to sift threw the artifacts that were gathered in 1986. Some interesting things have been found concerning the artifact from this site. A golden fabric head band which was first thought to be very well preserved fabric was in fact tightly woven gold. This is at odds with the fact that there is very little gold in Ohio. there have been other artifacts found which could point to site contamination. A revaluation of the site would be advisable but not practical since US route 2 is over the site today. Future evaluation of the bones found at the site may shed light in to what people have been calling Ohio Man. Ohio Man could just be a previously unknown type of feline. Time will tell if this Ohio Man is real or fake.

Archeology Today

A local archaeologist in Ohio plans field research in Mexico he believes that Ohio man and the jaguar god may be of the same origin. Cleveland university is sponsoring the trip in part. There is a rumor that some of the funding is from the federal government.

Into The Lions Eyes

A man in heavy black armor. His armor was obviously designed to protect him for my claws and fists. He resembled a black plastic clad continence of a Rome centurion. The helmet was of the same black plastic with a mirrored face mask to hide his face and provided a sense of foreboding. The black clad solider requested me in his mechanically masked voice to follow him we arrived at an elevator. He directed me in to the elevator. The solider punched a key sequence and the car started down. Five minuets later the car came to a stop, the door slid open to reveal a dark and neglected hall. Pipes ran the length of the hall. The sound of dripping water and ventilation fans could be heard in the distance. The soldier motioned for me to move. An animals scream could be heard; it reverberated and echoed off the hallways walls. I thought I heard a child's laughter as well. The laughter could have been my imagination though. Our footsteps echoed off the walls as we walked. The soldier stopped in front of a large steal door. Grabbing the bolt and opened the door. The door protested its disturbance with a load screech. The metal hinges grinding on each other. The room in side was not any better than the hallway. An old style metal desk and a steel folding char awaited me as well as one more of those black clad solders. The walls of this room were not much better in the way of cheering a person up. The walls were made of cinder block. It seamed at one time the walls were panted with gray pant. This room looked as decayed as everything else in this subterranean world. In front of the desk were 3 black panels of glass. Each of the panels had a light at the top enclosed in a wire cage. The middle light lit up and a distorted voice asked me to be seated "now tell me what happened to you." I paused for a moment and began.

Have you ever looked into the eyes of a lion or one of the other big cats? Those eyes. Those cold killing eyes. Those same eyes that I look from now and see a world that is not mine anymore. It started in late august and went on for more than I would like. It feels as if it has been a life time imprisoned by my basic desires and logic. Control with out control, Passion with rage! And you ask me now of things as you see me as though I was a beast at a zoo or circus. Ready to do tricks for the spectators who give their money so quickly and never look back at the man that is laughing. I was once human. Ha! H UUU MMM AAA NNN. Just because a monkey can stand on his hind legs and say "what a good boy am I". They call him intelligent, more like brain dead zombies being lead to the slaughter.

The light on the far right lit up. A voice made deeper spoke

"Dr. Simon Carson you will tell us what happened to you or we will have use other means of persuasion to loosen your tong." The soldier at my side flexed his fists. The soft squeak of his leather gloves filled the small room.

"All right, all right! you do not have to threaten me like that".

The voice continued. "If you did not do what you had reported in your preliminary report the consequences can be sever for a individual of your kind." I wet my lips and continued. "I did do every thing I said I did". This time two of lights lit up and the cuncoughiny of distorted voices were incomprehensible "Please only one at a time, I have been up since last night. Please wait; let me tell you in my own way". The light on the far left lit up and a single voice could be heard distorted but higher in pitch than the other two "Proceed" was the single word. "I think you will under stand my situation when I get done. You will not be dissatisfied." My eyes started to mist over with the memory of what I was going to tell them.

"Now I will tell you the sad song of a man that stuck his nose into one cave too many. Like all songs or ballads of the concurring hero there is passion, intrigue, maybe even a little humor but in the end there is only death for his foe."

"The condition that I am in is not of my choosing but rather one of circumstance. What type of circumstance would drive a man to gaze in to the very sole of a wild animal? The same that ancient man used to make fire, to hunt, to kill, to rape the land. The same calling that made us the greediest thing that ever crawled from the primordial ooze and draw breath on this planet. We wanted to be the absolute ruler of our future; not letting any thing stand in the way of our collective foot. Now! Now! we want the very thing that makes the lion the most powerful creature in its world. Not just it's strength we wanted more and more and more till one day we saw that we were the lion in the mirror, our own savageness was staring back at us and we were helpless to stop it. We have become the thing we feared the most in this world. We are now unable to walk the streets, go shopping or even sit in on a move. just because we look too savage, too threatening. This disease has changed me and everyone else that has been unfortunate enough to catch it. I am not just talking of the physical aspects of this disease. Our minds have changed as well. You can no longer use human thought even cat thought will not help you. The two have to be blended and smeared. The line were one starts and an another begins is no more. I know this; and you will learn this. If you will only listen to me.

The disease was not one that a person would catch by sneezing on to his fellow man. No! It was one you had to find, and I found it. It was late that god-forsaken day in August. When I brook the seal to the tomb of the Jaguar god. The tunnel led to a cavernous chamber. To all that would enter this chamber no one would think that it was not natural. There were even stalactites and stalagmites hanging from the ceiling and rising up from the floor. They made you feel like you were in a giant mouth ready to crush you with its razor sharp teeth. The slight shiver that ran through me reinforced the foreboding of this place and it had nothing to do with the temperature witch was a nice 68 degrees which was comfortable to work in but not so bad as to make a person fell as though he was chilled. The chamber was at the foot of a Mayan settlement covered and conquered by the jungle several hundred years ago. We did not know what to make of large amount of artifacts that were scattered around the chamber; some looked as if they were new while others were obviously of ancient times. When we saw the very recent looking shovels and pickaxes and other hand excavating equipment laying about; we though that the chamber had been pilfered, but far from it These tools were covered with a thick layer of dust and type of fungus that is vary slow growing.

The team that I was part of examined the tools and found a stamp in the metal witch was in a unknown style of writing that did not exist in the past and certainly not in the present. There was one other thing wrong with the tools, there work faces were clean I mean they were to clean and the metal was different. How different? I do not know but it was different. The members in the team decided to call it a night. As we left I heard one of the damn interns kicked over and broke a clay jar in the shape of a football with both ends cut off. The jar started to hiss and spin. A green fog was forming in the chamber. I ordered every one out. Our Doc. checked everyone out and gave the lot of us a clean bill of health. I told every one to get a good nights sleep and we would continue again in the morning.

Chapter 2

It seamed that every one on the team came down with the fever; and the pain that cored threw our bodies that night. In the morning we all were up and feeling fine. it seamed that it ether was a stomach flue or some food posing from the local dining establishment that we all ate at before coming to the base camp. The work on the site went on for several days. Each day we would feel fine and there were no symptoms of the hell that started every night. All the while we worked at the site. God knows what was happening to our bodies.

If you would excuse me I would like to read from my logs. It seems that one of the side effects of this disease is a short term memory loss. When the physical stage of the disease hits I lost a major portion of the month of August. So if I seam as though I don't believe what I have written down it is because I do not.

August 14

The first strange thing that we found was that this place had a combination of all three major mezoamerican cultures. The other strange thing was the materials used in the construction of this cavern. We see evidence of metallurgy that was well beyond the ability that has been observed in other mezoamerican sites. Until now such alloys would have been called space age. The material that the clay jars were made from actually appears to be form of a composite ceramic with incredible insulating abilities. These findings are very disturbing to say the least. Samples of the metal and shards of the pottery have been sent to the capitol.

August 17

Results have been slow in coming from the lab. We have however received a preliminary report that is light on details on both samples. The report states that the metal may be a form of titanium-steal alloy. As for the shards; they might be a composite material of titanium and ceramic. The vagueness of the report can only mean one thing; our samples have peaked the interests of the government authorities. Not good.

August 25

The doc. is still concerned that every one is still complaining of stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and a host of other ailments that still afflict our team. The doc. hopes that it is a bad case of Montezuma revenge. In any case we have all been put on light duty for the next couple of days. This is good since we have several items that need to be cataloged and classified. This also gives the doc. a chance to play pincushion with us. I am not looking forward to it.

Personal note:

The first time I visited Dr.. Chollogo about 5 years ago when I first proposed this trip. I needed a doctor. That would not necessarily ask for money up front. In fact I do not recall that I ever offered any money or other compensation. He was so looking forward to giving us the necessary shots. As well as the ones he specially made for this trip. Now there is a story; 3 shots and 6 weeks of agonizing side effects. The side effects ran the gauntlet from mood swings and hot flashes to explosive diarrhea and uncontrollable vomiting. At one point I did not think I was ever going to know what oatmeal really tasted like.

August 29

Our linguist thinks that some of the glyphs depict individuals reclined in chairs working controls. This has been seen at other sits and referred as to the myan space man. The differences here was that these were in extreme detail. The relief art work was smooth and it appeared that the individual panels that the artwork was on were glazed like modern pottery is today.

This to is disturbing since the technology to do this was thought to be well beyond the culture of this time.

Our linguist says that there is some lingual drift in the glyphs and making an accurate interpretation of them is hard to do. He says that he should have an accurate indication of what there trying to say by September 1

September 1

It hit every one at the portable picnic table just before our linguist could tell us of the curse of the jaguar god. As we started to eat our breakfast. The pains started in our guts, and spread to every corner of our bodies in rhythmic pounding fashion. Slamming in to our heads, pealing back our skin at our ankles. Causing eyeballs to bulge from their sockets, ripping flesh and twisting bone. After the firs wave of this pain hit me I started to lose conciseness though hung on long enough to see all my companions writhing on the ground. Some of which I know would be dead or passed out. I ...I do not know if it was the result of the pain that griped my body or was the fact my brain was swelling. But I do think that my friend's face was changing. I think I could see his face start to stretch. His eyes. Oh God. His eyes had changed shape. They were no longer the round brown eyes of my friend. The pupils were now vertical slits and the color had changed to an iridescent yellow. I could not hold out any longer and succumbed to the darkness. We all passed out one by one. Before I joined them in that strange state of being dead but not dead, living, but not living, hearing, but not being heard, sensing everything around me, but not feeling myself. If there were a time that a person could feel what hell would be like with out going there this is as close as I, or anyone else should get. It is at this point that I passed in to that mysterious world.

Chapter 3

Reality came in bright flashes as I laid on a cold metal table. The light was so bright it hurt. Colors the colors were all wrong; it felt as if I was dead or dyeing. Someone spoke it sounded alien, no not alien but not normal. Little did I know that the term of normal would be forever changed by what happened to me. Fifteen of us still lived the team consisted of nearly thirty two men and women. My mouth was dry and pasty the attendant, not knowing what to call her, came over to me and held a glass to my lips I drank greedily. It tasted sweet and soothing. My vision was coming back to me in bits and pieces as well as all of my other senses. The liquid ended up to be nothing more than plane ordinary water. It still tasted sweet and soothing regardless of were it came from. This person started to speak to me just as my vision clear. I noticed something that I will never forget the site of that blasted N.B.C (Nuclear Biologic Chemical) suite. I must have started to panic thrashing against my bonds that held me to the table. The person in the suite I could clearly see now was a young women, with the unmistakable emblem of the C.D.C neatly stitched on her suit. She stood over me and keep on saying

"it is all right you will not be heart you will be OK".

OK! OK! Is that what you say to someone who has had the crap scared out of him; by someone in a blasted N.B.C suite? "My god lady you have a fricken way of showing a person he is OK! Tying me up to a dissection table and showing up in that thing from a B-movie you really have way with the phrase. OK gees!"

This lady must have expected that.

"I am glad to see you too but you do not have to shout."

She smiled coldly cinched down the tie downs that held me to the table. "Now" she explained "why don't you tell me how you got like this" with a puzzled smear of a smile I replied:

"got like what."

It was at this time that I noticed that I had yellowish orange more yellow than orange fur covering my whole body "what the... heck did you do to me." The lady pulled up a chair and now with her legs crossed and a note pad on her lap smiled and simply said

"We didn't do anything".

What happened was that you caught a very peculiar bug indeed. It seems on the surface to have been an advanced form of gene therapy."

With a look that should have been on a child that had its puppy put down "for what!!!"

"now, now Dr. Carson if you would be quiet and calm I will tell you. As I said before I was so rudely interrupted it appeared on the surface to be an advanced form of gene therapy. Instead of introducing the genes directly via a virus carrier it instead conveyed instructions for new protein mechanisms.

"Protein mechanisms. What am I a ticking time bomb, or did I just blow up?"

"Yes, well maybe, let me get back to you on that. But anyway after your cells created these new machines they started to drastically alter your DNA. The changes however were not expressed until you were sleeping. From your delusional statements when we brought you in the machines appeared to have expressed their changes in your internal organs first. Then in the final stages bleeding and dea-, um, er I meant to say complete outward transformation. Sorry about the previous part, force of habit."

He looked at hear and blinked several times. Trying to let what she had sink in. "OK. So what am I"

she reach in to hear lab coat and poled out a white paper bag the type one would get candy in from a 1940's drug store." care for some catnip; may calm you down."

" So--- I ---am --- a --- cat????!" she tilted her head to one side and with great thought she said "yes but with two legs. You and the rest of your group have to tell me what happened"

"I DO NOT KNOW" she glared at me whit eyes ringed with anger at my inability to answer her questions.

"Well you seem upset. Till, you are more cooperative I will say good night."

"But But But" it was all that I could say as she slipped out of my site just great I am still stuck on this damn table. I slept a very uncomfortable sleep.

Chapter 3

When I was finally able to sleep it came to me as heavy vales that surrounded me in a blanket of coolness and tranquility. Only to be startled to abrupt conciseness by the wining sound of a cranial saw. My eyes open with a start. The round faced man in a NBC suite with bulbous eyes and a strange smile on his face was lowering the blade to the center of my head. With my arms still bound to the table I really did not have a chance to defend my self. In a panic I yelled at this wicked looking Doctor.

"What the hell are you doing."

The Doctor jumped back and with an expression of shock on his face. His large eyes even becoming larger to the point of him looking as if his eyes would pop out of his head. He replied in a voice that seemed to be like a young child's wish had come true.

"OH Boy a live one they haven't let me work on a live one for nearly fifteen years."

The little man came back at me with more determination than before. Just as I though that I was going to end up as a pile of scrap bones and flesh.

The young lady came back to the lab with authority she yelled at the top of her lungs

"What in gods creation do you think your doing."

"An autopsy as ordered ma'am."

This little wart of a man seemed a little put out by her reactions.

"You are suppose to report to dissection room C not room C1. Didn't you look at the sign on the door? You could have killed this man."

"Well you are suppose to when you do a vivisection. Aren't you?"

This lady just had all she could take "Get your hairy fat ass down to room C or I will perform the precise same technique that you were going to do to him on you. Now move it or lose it!"

The little man in a frenzy of motions picked up his grisly collection of dissection instruments. All the while he keep on saying;

"yes ma'am, right a way ma'am, it won't happen again ma'am you are absolutely right ma'am....."

The little man finally fled the room still apologizing as he ran down the hall to the next room.

This young woman had fire in her and it made me smile thinking that that pitiful excuse for a man would not try the same thing again.

"You must excuse him he reeeellllyyyy likes his work" she exclaimed.

I tried to make light of the situation what else was I going to do "I sort of got that from the gleam in his eyes."

She had the type of laugh that was all most debilitating

"You know"

She managed to spit out between bursts of laughter

"you are the first to have the grasp of his complete character in that short of time."

I simply smiled and said with a grin.

"Could you possibly get me off of this thing"

"Oh": she replied

"Certainly we were going to release you from that table as soon as we know that you were done thrashing a bout."

She reached over and touched the releases of the straps witch slackened with the first touch.

"there how is that"

"Much better. Those thing were starting to bind. I sat up and started to stretch"

"wait!" she exclaimed.

Then I noticed that I had a long and furry tale of the same shade as the rest of me.

"what the heck am I going to do with this."

It was secured to the table by means of a small belt looped through the table to immobile it. She explained that it was necessary so that it would not sway back and forth in the air and possibly knock over supplies on the stand next to the table. This was understandable and I was thank-full that she warned me of it. If she had not I would have seriously hurt my self. She then loosened my bonds that were on my feet. As I swiveled my self and looked in to those incredible eyes of heres.

"Could you possibly find some cloths for me"

She gasped and raised a hand to were her mouth would have been if she wasn't wearing a blasted NBC suite. The words stammered out of her mouth

"I I I did not realize you were still in the umm the buff."

I smiled and could see she was taking all that is me in those large and brilliant eyes of hears. She seamed loosed like a deer in a cars headlight. Her inner voice kept on propelling her.

"Catherine; hello come back to earth you are needed hear hello."

She blinked a couple times as to word off the thought that stunned hear.

"Sorry about that I was aa umm. Taking in the view?"

"That's nice. Now; if it did not bother me so I would not have asked for something, any thing to cover me up with."

She quickly ran to the phone witch was next to what looked like an airlock door. In short fashion the door cycled and she handed me a robe.

After I put on the robe I turned to her she was holding her stomach

"how long have you had those panes"

"since I have returned from the myan jungle"

The expression on her face was one of concern. I looked at her NBC and asked

"have you been wearing the same suite all this time"

"yes. It is standard procedure at this base until the all clear is given. That is to say we are in a sub unite of the base so as if necessary they can sanitize the hole sub unite with out blowing up the entire base."

As I looked at hear you could see the concern on her face.

"This is vary important now that you answer the next questions with the utmost truth."

I posed for a moment before going on

" how long dose the virus last in the air"

she answered quickly and with the concern and pane was growing in her eyes "48 hours. Why?"

"I think that you may have been infected."

Her bottom lip started to tremble.

"What makes you so sure." I just looked at her and tried to explain that when we broke the seal there were many traps. One of witch was a type of dagger that was fixed to the ceiling of the tunnel we had dusted most of them with orange chock so we would not run in to them. It was found that the blades had some sort of poison them. Fortunately it had degraded to the point that it would not even heart a fly. We were hard pressed to find enough of the stuff for analysis. All the time she seamed to be getting more and more nervous.

" So you see it would be vary easy to have cut your suite especially in the region of your neck" she turned around and there was nothing. No puncture no cut no tare. She turned again and I heard something rattle. I was still sitting on the table and she had to step closer to me so I could continued my investigation. My hands moved over her body trying to see if there was a tear in a fold of the suite. What I fund was the combination battery and filter unit that was suppose to filter out all the air born molds and viruses. It was similar to the one that archaeologist use when going in to a sealed cave or tomb. The group that I was part of had them but they were damaged in transport and we did not have the time nor the money to spend on replacements. My hand rested on the unite and felt something give way. The entire filter unit came apart in my hand. One half of the unit was on her hip the other was in my hand. Ironically it was made in china. The government never learned that sometimes you don't go with the lowest bidder. By trying to save a few dollars they may have sacrificed this young and attractive lady. She had backed off and turned away from me. I could hear her sobbing softly to her self. Rubbing my legs and wondering if I would have the coordination needed to walk. I slid off the table and steadied my self against it as I bent and flexed my legs to see if they were strong and able to hold my weight. I let go of the table and placed one of my large furry Paws? Or hands? It did not mater. I grasped her shoulder and turned her to my face her chin was down and the tears were flowing from her eyes.

"You know you shouldn't be so sad"

"why shouldn't I be? You know what will happen to me. Don't you? " she did not give me time to answer.

"There is a good chance that I will end up like one of the others. Hell some of them do not even act human. Or I will end up dead, or something like you" I just stared in to her eyes as I pressed the releases of her NBC

"Is that so bad?"

I said it with so much warmth that it startled me. I did not know what was happening to me. She is nice but this is not the place or the time to start a relationship.

"No I guess not" as she realized what I was doing and abruptly took hold of my hands and then continued to unfasten the caches of her NBC

"Has there been any others that have been complaining of cramps." She shook her head no and slid the rest of the way out of her suit. "The suit will have to be burnt you know"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"Can I leave this joint."

She smiled

"that is why I had come hear in the firs place. Once you have the bug you can't pass it on to anyone else"

I was thankful that I was going to get out of this room

"so maybe I can get a decent nights sleep and a change of clothes"

"of course"

Her words were cut off as the racking pains hit the vary soul of her body. Her eyes rolled back in her head as she fell in to my arms I lifted her to the table that I was strapped to earlier. Seeing that she was already starting to twitch violently I neatly fastened the restraints of the table to her in the same way they had held me down. After I had finished that I went to the phone by the airlock and rang the nurse on duty. The nurse came at once, hooked up the IVs and did a general once over wrote something on her pad and turned to leave. I yelled out to her as she left

"Hay I could use some cloths instead of this bathrobe".

The nurse looked me over and went on with the rest of her duties. She returned with a pair of overalls and some under garments that were obviously designed with me in mind. I tuck the bundle said thanks and went to a corner of the room to change. I sat in a char that was uncomfortable for some reason. I chuckled to myself and though "hay stupid you forgot about your tale." I stood up a little and slipped my tale through the open back of the char. The coveralls felt course and over starched. "good old military laundry. If you ware it starch it. Allot! Now that I think about it I could have used that first par of coveralls to sharpen my claws on.

Now having claws takes some time to get use to. Unlike humans cats first digit of their hands is their claws. So you never grab something by your fingertips you use your next digit witch has your finger pad on it. Witch makes that first coverall that I put on look like it was designed by Freddie Crooger. That is fine for Halloween. I was just going to have to get use to a new way grasping the world.

Chapter 4

The next few days a lot of things started to happen. The commander of the military base issued me an ID badge, took my picture and finger printed me which will take weeks for the ink to come out of my fur. Then he had me sign page after page of regulations. At the end of all of this the commander shook my hand and welcomed me to fort nowhere in south something on the planet huseit. The message was quite clear that I was in the military and in a place that for all intents and purposes does not exist. A sergeant showed me to my billet and saluted me. This startled me. I asked the sergeant why you saluted me. He replied that because of my education that I was granted the rank of captain though I still needed basic and officers training. The sergeant went on to say that he would be my assistant and would answer as many of my questions as he could. I in turn said vary well and asked where the gymnasium and mess hall were located.

"If you want you are more than welcome to join me for supper." As the sergeant said this I thought to my self that I did not even know his name. What is your name sergeant? The sergeant snapped to attention and said his name, and specialty in the field of disease history "Sir I am Matthew Trevers staff sergeant, disease history currently assigned to to aaaa. Sir I do not even know your name." "That is all right my name is Doctor Simon Carson; you can call me Doctor Carson." The sergeant looked at Doctor Carson. You could see the wheels in his head turning calculating strength, speed, and endurance The sergeant came back from his mental inspection of this strangest of the Doctor and asked;

"A doctor of what?"

I smiled and sad that I would tell him all that had transpired in the last few mouths as far as I would know over supper.

We ate and I shared some of the experiences that had happened to me in the Mayan cavern. Matthew then told me that I was out for about a week. This surprised me and asked about the other on the team. Matthew apologized. "All I know is that you were found on the ground and you had torn off all your clothes and had started to slash your self with your finger nails in a psycho fit or rage against your self."

We ate in silence for a while it seamed like hours. "Do you mind if I ask you a couple more questions" Matthew shrugged his shoulders and swallowed hard

"No not at all."

"The doctor that was taking care of me while I was unconscious. Her name is Catherine. Right? Matthew shook his head. "I really do not know. She may have been one of the new replacements that we get from time to time. In any event I do not know her. Though I would like to." He said with that you know what I mean expression on his face.

After supper he escorted me around the faculty and showed me the gym and other common areas that we had clearance to. Some areas that I had access to he did not and visa versa. The tour ended with me back at my billet . Before leaving me he saluted once more and replied in his most formal military speech "if you need me; all you need to do is press one on the phone and I will pick up. Thank you for a grand evening and hope to see you in the morning " before Matthew left I replied that I would see him in the afternoon instead of morning. Matthew in reply said "very well" and turned sharply and left.

Chapter 5

Boredom can be more deadly than enemy weapon. And my boredom was the worst that I have ever endured. My time was spent between understanding the layout of the base, going to officers training classes and working out at the base's gym. I as well checked on the doctor that was still in her coma and in no condition to speak to anyone. The doctor on duty stated the transformation was going as it did in me and there would be vary few side affects that would not be expected in this sort of thing.

I reached down and held her hand and prayed that she would be well in just a few more days. As I stood there with her hand in mine I started to look at her with more intensity than ever before. Her hair had fallen out and was now being replaced by short brownish ginger colored fur. The color was darkest at the points of her new feline ears. Fur had started to grow on her arms as well. It had the same overall color as her ears. The darkest portion of this covered her hands and lightens to that rich ginger color at mid upper arm. Dark black and yellowish guard hairs made it look like she was wearing long silken gloves. This was all that was allowed by me to see for I had asked that she should be covered in a light blanket so that she would have some dignity when she awoke.

I was so enthralled in my study of her that I never noticed the disturbance in the back of the room. I herd the sharp clack of a steel examining tray hitting the floor and the dancing chiming of scalpels forceps and other metal instruments. This was accompanied with the shattering of glass. It took that much to snap me out of the trance I was in. I turned around to see a figure raising a clenched fist above his head and then thrusting it down word till it hit the slender but vary strong figure of sergeant Matthew.

Matthew absorbed the first blow and staggered back till he hit the waste high steel worktop of one of the mini labs. He hit it with sufficient force that it had to have sent ribbons of pain up his back. He raised his head just in time to see his assailants fist once more this time to finish him off. Not knowing if it was instinct or luck that saved him he wrapped his hand around the cord of his bathrobe and fell to his knees poling him toward himself. His assailants hand struck the metal work bench and Matthew could hear the satisfying sound of bonds snapping with the impact. I myself did not have a good view of what happen next but the next thing that I noticed was that Matthew's assailant was grasping his wrist in shear agony tilting his head back and letting out a howl of pane. Matthew seizing the moment brought his hand up from his kneeling position and delivering a gut busting palm trust to his soft belly knocking the wind out of his assailant. Matthew's eyes widen as he saw that did not stop this man form trying to grab his neck. Matthew's mind working furiously to come up with anything that may keep him from being a grease spot on the lab floor. The answer to his situation was staring right at him. Remembering that his opponent was male and like all males only having one weakens that is sometimes overlooked by most in a fight. With a wry grin on Matthew's face clinched his fist and drove it home between his opponents legs. It was all it took his opponent gritted his teeth and closed his eye as he fell to the side clutching his bruised manhood with his good hand. Seeing Matthew's strength waning I rushed towards him. Before reaching him I seized a hand full of rags and a bottle of ether. Now I could see for the first time that the individual that Matthew was fighting. Wasting no time I open the bottle and socked the rags with its contents and placed it on the snout of Matthew's opponent sending that individual to a dreamless sleep. Looking at the unconscious form on the floor I note that he was just like me except that his fur colorings were more like a tiger. Looking at Matthew I asked him;

"What the hell made him go off."

"How the hell should I know?" Was his reply with a look of utter disbelief on Matthew's face. "He killed four others back there before he took off after me. Hell I was just on my way to see if you were all right when I met up with psycho kitty here. Who is he anyway?"

The only reply I had at the time was. "I do not know though he probably is one of the member of my team. But it is sort of hard to determine who is who when everyone is warring a fur coats and has had the equivalent of plastic surgery done to them; this dose make it a little bit harder to ID someone. OK so lay off." The last few words came off with just a hint of a growl.

Matthew eyes showed just a hint of wariness. His voice did not betray him. It stayed rock steady.

"All right, all right you don't have to take my head off." his tone was better now and it had lost that edge it had before.

"Hey you want to let him breath don't you. You know, so we can question him later.

uh Oh yes!?" I had not noticed that I still had the hand full of rags pressed against his snout. Quickly lifting the rags off his mouth and was reworded by hearing the rhythmic rise and fall of his breathing. I did not know that I still had them on his mouth. Matthew smiling.

"That was quick thinking grabbing the ether like that. You probably saved my life by doing that." "When you are an archaeologist you learn to use what ever is at hand and see things in the dirt vary quickly like that."

The conversation was getting old "Come on." I told him; "lets get you fixed up and him to some sort of stockade." We need to find out who this mystery guest is and why he flipped."

There was something nagging. Something that I was missing or should not be here. Something; Something to do with my team. The team. I had almost let it fall out of my mouth. That was it. If he was here then there must be more survivors than him. And there was that thing the doctor had said. I would have to find them and figure out who is who all over again.

"Hay Matthew how about we get something to eat." Matthew rubbed the back of his neck. "That my friend sounds like a vary good plan." We both walked to the cafeteria while some guards finished collecting the still unconscious man on the floor.

Chapter 6

Catharine Renalds still form laid on the table. Her transformation from a knock out woman to an extremely mind blowing woman was impressive. From a cats point of view. I was just sitting there looking at her and wonder if she did the same to me, and did she toy with the same demands as I did when I was in that slumber of the forgotten. She stirred slightly as her eyes started to flicker with life. The first words were typical of her. "Would some one tell me what type of semi truck hit me and was it carrying the moon when it hit me" I smiled and my smile must have carried more that I wanted it to carry. She in turn smiled and in a voice that she did not recognize as her own "would you be a dear and hand me my a robe." "Aaaa yes I-I-I willll seee youuu" I couldn't believe that I was sounding like a slow moving audio tape. How was I gut out of this situation. "I will see you later Catherine. Matthew had just walk in at that point. Matthew I believe the captain of the base needs me doesn't he Matthew he reeely needs me right now doesn't he...."I could see the confusion on Matthew's face; then as if he was struck by lighting his face came alive and responded with a resounding yes sir as we made our exit out of the lab.

Later that week

The transformation may only have taken about 2 weeks. Though I could not get use to life as a near 6 foot tall cat with claws that could gut most people. It will just take time. I keep telling my self. I met up with Matthew later that day.

"she is recovering in this room if you would like to see her". Matthew gestured to a door in the wall of the hall and keyed in his ID code on the security pad next to the door. I could hear a faint click and buzz that was in the range that normal human can not hear but I could. The door opened smoothly in to the wall with little to no nose. Matthew nodded to me and said in a low tone that seemed out of character

"I will be back in ten or twelve hours or when my shift is over". I had no time to respond to the funny little smile on his face before he turned sharply on his hells and started down the hall.

Looking in to the open doorway to see that most beautiful site in the world.

A young woman lay on a bed all but naked with a light sheet over her that was almost transparent. My approach was slow and deliberate making sure not to make too much noise I cleared off the chair that was in the corner and sat down. She laid there for several hours and I simply watched her as if she was a famous panting from some fare off land. She started to stir and become awareness of her surroundings. Her eyes unfocused and a half smile on her face as she stretched.

"Who, what, how, did you get in to my privet quarters I have a notion to call for security."

The words stammered out of her mouth as she took the nearly transparent sheet and clutched it to her body trying desperately to conceal her nakedness.

I was getting a little nerves. I did not want to be here; it just felt wrong. It was a setup and I know it. Who ever was behind this was going to get it in the end. Well here I go.

"You know you need to relax more. If you over work your self that way it will only lead to an upset stomach, headache ,an urge to run to the bathroom, you know the normal things stress dose on a person. Now you are not in your private quarters but in a recovery room. To the point of what I am doing hear? Well my chummy friend Matthew found it necessary that I was in hear for some strange reason that is still bugging me."

"That makes thing as clear as black pant." as she scratched her neck and trying to keep the thin sheet to her body. "But could you leave now"

"No can't do that."

The hare on the back of her neck started to stand up. There was a slight growl to her voice as well.

"why not?"

I pointed to the featureless wall.

"That is an easy one. No door knob."

"Oh just great! Now I am a prisoner just like you"

I was getting a little angry I had never given up even when I was at another dig site in a middle of a conflict zone.

"No. never think like that once you start down that line of thought it is only a short trip to slavery and death. Never give up hope. It is all we have now."

Catherine eyes lit up as if she had bin pinched. She looked at the door. "I guess you are right

She was not sure when they would get out of this room and brought her knees up to her chest as she thought. I opened my mouth and know I had a weird grin on my face. "My manners." As I went to the chest of drawers and poled out some clothing that had been altered to fit individuals with tales.

Her sent had permeated the room. Her natural musk was thick, luring and made me strangely calm and confident.

"Your name is Catherine right"

I handed her the clothes that I had found in the dresser

"Yes; could you please tern around so I can put this lovely neon blue coveralls on."

She stared at the coveralls in her hands and decided that she wasn't interested in putting them on any more. She was instead interested in Dr. Simon Carson.

Catherine dropped the blue coveralls on the end of the bed. The sheet that she held slipped to show her cleavage. That scent. It clouded the mind made the hart race, it made me feel alive for the first time in weeks. I felt as though I could take on the world. I hadn't noticed but the sheet she was holding had completely slipped away.

She moved toward me with the grace that a cat could only posses . Her arms snacked around my neck, her tong licked the edges of my mouth. I intern licked and nibbled my way down her throat. She prevented me from going down her cleavage by following me down. I tried to go lower but she matched my movements. Eventually we were on the floor and in each others arms our hands creasing and roaming over our partners body. Some how she had managed to shred off all my cloths. We continued our education of each others body. She in time rolled on to her stomach and tucked her self up in to the classic pose that every owner of a female cat that has not been fixed knows. Her tall flicked to the side and instinct took over.

Our love making lasted forever compared to a normal cats paring. we just existed for the day, the moment, this second. Our harts pounded as one. There rhythms coursing though our bodies tattooing our soles propelling us onward to that all lovers cherish and wish would never end this day, this moment, this second. The climax of love, the knowledge of love and maybe one of the most important of all is the knowing you are loved by another unconditionally and totally on this day, this moment, this second.

I looked in to Catharine eyes. Her eyes were Pools of the most deepest green. A Green so deep that an emerald would be dull and lack any of the luster of her eyes.

"I am sorry. I do not know what happened to me. I didn't want to but something keep driving me on."

She smiled. "I know lets enjoy the spell for now. You never know when we will have the chance to enjoy each other like this again."

With that she rolled over kissed me and I was swallowed once more in the throws of passion

In an observation room deep in the complex Matthew which Simon and Catherine as they were making passionate love. Matthew paced "I did my dirty deed."

"Yes you did." Replied the man with dark rimed glasses. "we needed to see if the subjects responded to phenomenal stimulation and control those urges" Matthew turned in disgust and faced the little man "How can a person resist something if he doesn't know what he is suppose to resist. You must remember that this is all new to them they did not grow up this way it happened by chance. This!" Matthew pointed at the monitor of the two over grown cats making love. "This is not an experiment for you to revel in. you are dealing with good honest people. And what will happen if she becomes pregnant and has a child. Whet then!

The technician took off his glasses and cleaned them. "I could care less. They can be drowned for all I care." The technician held up his glasses to survey his cleaning and placed them back on his heed. Matthew clinched his fists in anger turned to the exit of observation lounge 3 and left.
