Chapter 1

"The Legend"

The kingdom of Acaban, a village located on the far eastern side of the continent of Cortua. It was one of the four great kingdoms located at the corners of the nation. The citizens of the kingdom thrived by working and selling crops and resources, such as stone, steel, gold, and rarely, diamond. They all lived happy and carefree lives, caring to their livestock and making what money they could. Their great king, King Fredrick, was a very kind ruler. He could tell if someone deserved a second chance for a crime committed and if not, well off with their heads. He was known for passing laws that not only helped his people but other town and kingdoms as well.

The people of the world were not like others, they lived forever, although that doesn't mean they couldn't be killed , it just took a lot more to kill them. Very few humans existed, but they lived normal lives and as long as they reproduced the human race would never die out. To defend themselves they practiced magic, not just any magic, the magic of the elements. Earth, wind, fire, and water were their weapons in case of a attack. Protecting the king was the higher of ranks of element users. Only by being twenty and by passing through ten rigorous tests, all consisting of real danger, could they enter the ranks.

Many kids dreamed of becoming a guard for the king, but none as determined as young Yelmi, being only sixteen he stll had a ways to go before he could try. Unlike many kids though he didn't have parents, he lived with the Elder, Elder Gerald. Gerald may have had the title of "Elder" but he didn't look over age twenty three. He was the second oldest, second only to the king. Being over nine hundred years old should have worn his body out, but he always kept in shape and retained his muscular look. Yelmi was not ever told who his mother and father were, but he did always hope that he would see them again one day.

Yelmi was for the most part, a nice kid, but he could be troublesome. He was skilled highly in both earth and fire and would always find ways to prank other kids his age and on adults. When a villager complained to the king about Yelmi's behavior he would always say to just ignore it, little to be known the king use to be just like him. Young and full of energy.

It was a nice day in the kingdom, the sun was out and they rays were reflecting off the river that flowed not far from the kingdom walls. Elder Gerald was always busy helping the king with important tasks, so Yelmi's job was to go gather food for their meals. This night they would be having fish. He had his feet in the water as he threw in his line. He liked fishing, it relaxed him. His pole was only a strong branch with a piece of thick string attached to the end with a bent piece of sharp metal as a hook.

He waited as he watched the water and his pole, the fish were slow at biting that day, maybe it wasn't his day. He sighed as he looked at the sky for a bit before he felt his pole shake.

"Hahah gotcha!" he yelled with excitement as he pulled back on the pole.

It was a big one, he could see it coming towards him, but as he pulled the pole started to crack. He gave it one hard yank, the pole snapped and the fish escaped. He gripped his light blonde hair and pulled. He had never had this much bad luck when fishing. He sighed and picked up the two pieces of his pole and started walking towards the cave at the end of the river. He sat down as he pressed his hand against the rock ground, two pillars shot up at the entrance as he relaxed.

"Nothing, oh well I could always steam the pig we have in the pin."

He didn't like killing animals, but if it was what they had to do to fill their stomachs then he had to. He let out a heavy sigh as he placed his hand in the ground. He closed his eyes for a second as he tried to concentrate on the earth below. He jad been trying to perfect his own earth technique, the Earth Gauntlets. He almost had it the other day, but he could compose it and they fell to pieces. He concentrated harder, but as he felt the rubble building up on his hands he heard a rumbling in front of him. His eyes flashed open as he heard a crash. In front of him was a staircase heading straight into the earth. He could see light down below, maybe he had found someone's secret base, maybe someone had food so he wouldn't have to kill the pig! He slowly walked down the steps, trying to look down to see if anyone was down in the room. As he entered he saw no one, nothing but marble walls and floor and a sword lunged in the ground.

He looked around and saw that it was lanterns and torches that lit up the room. It seemed all to fancy just for a sword. He walked over to it and inspected the blade, it seemed to be in perfect condition. It didn't look old, but it did look creepy. The hilt was wrapped in leather and in the center of the it was, what looked like a eyeball. He touched it, it felt nothing like a real eyeball, it felt like it was made from different jewels. He looked into the eye before hearing someone udder in his mind "Take it.". His mind went blank for a few seconds as he grabbed the hilt. He tugged hard, using what strength he had. He grunted as he pulled on it, the ground cracking below the blade. He gave out a loud yelled and gave it one more good pull, jerking it straight out of the ground.

He didn't know what he had just done, he looked down at the eye as he saw it glowing red. He was suddenly blasted back by a power gust, hitting his head against the wall. He went silent as he heard the voice again.

"Thank you." the voice said with a evil chuckle.
