#20 of Two Worlds (Finished)

            The water was beautiful.

         ...

The water was beautiful.

It was like entering a whole new world that seemed to be from a fairy tale of fairies and pixies. The open space inside the jungle outside Arella was remarkable, Kevin found the Eternal Lake easily by following the path outside the Kingdom gates, keeping track of small things like trees and bushes so he'd know his way back out in case he'd get lost. And he was sure there wouldn't be any other way to call for help since he was out here alone. The Eternal Lake was breath taking; the length of it covered about two high school's side by side and was surrounded by bushes and trees covered in random fruit and flowers he'd never seen before. For all he knew they were probably poisonous. Still, though, it was beautiful. The water seemed to sparkle from the morning sun, glistening and reflecting sparks of bluish green particles off the surface and disintegrating in the air.

The edges dropped into the water about a couple of inches, so Kevin was able to walk over to the edge and kneel down to look at his reflection in the sparkling water. He felt like he noticed a couple of fish moving around but he couldn't tell from the sparks being in the way of his view. Kevin reached his hand down but soon regretted it after the water sparked onto his hand and shocking him a little, burning his hand nerves but not doing much damage at all. Though he didn't help letting out a small squeak as he felt it. The air around him blew lightly against his skin, which made him have the thought of the Husky whom he'd left back at the hut. Kevin didn't bother saying goodbye; he felt that it would be much easier if Demetrius didn't see him make his choice. Kevin didn't even want to make the choice but he had to. He had to choose between two worlds, Demetrius' world or his own.

He hated thinking about it, but there was no way around it. Once Kevin either died in either one of the worlds, he would exist in the other forever. He personally would like to just ask Demetrius or somebody to answer his question for him, but he knew the answer from the Husky already...

I think you should be with your family... Those words stuck in his head from last night but it felt like each word that was said burned to the core of his heart. Kevin didn't want to admit it but he was right. Kevin was still a teenager and not even graduated, he was too young to make the choices he was facing with engagement and sex and... being gay. Granted people his age always went through the gay stage, but he'd never thought he'd go through it this way. Before this all even happened Kevin was sure he was straight! Then he dreamt about Demetrius and Arella and accidentally crossed blood, balancing him from both worlds.

Being with his family was the right thing, and if he wanted to stay in Arella than he would be nothing but a selfish jerk. Kevin grimaced at the thought of him dying in his real world and leaving his parents and brother. They would be a wreck...

Looking ahead, there was a hill that rose high above the horizon line, it was a rather large hill but at the top nearest to the ledge into the water, there was a complete drop that fell straight toward the water. Standing, Kevin started walking towards the hill.

He forgot about breathing as he ran full sprint through the jungle, dodging stumps and branches and even scratching himself here and there from random twigs from strange shaped trees, but he didn't feel it. Nor did he even care. All he cared about was Kevin. Normally following the path would be the smartest way to get there but it took longer than just cutting through the trees. Demetrius knew where he was going and knew how to get to the Eternal Lake the fastest. What the Doctor didn't tell Kevin was that the water was dangerous; it sparked with a deadly shock that could kill anybody if they had full contact with the sparks erupting off the water. If someone went swimming in that water, they would die within minutes from the static electricity soaring through their nervous system and shutting down their motor functions so they wouldn't be able to swim back to the top.

The Husky had to fear the worst. And that's what drove him faster to reach his destination, the sheer worry of losing Kevin. He knew that in order for Kevin to go back to his world he'd have to die here, but Demetrius didn't want him to die. He had to save him. He wasn't ready to lose Kevin yet, not now, not like this where he could just fall into the water and expect to come back up. He knew he shouldn't be stopping him, but it was as if saving Kevin's life was his number one priority. It was as if Demetrius had no other purpose in this world. Kevin was his world. Kevin, a human boy, was his world. The Husky hated to hide it but he truly didn't want him to leave his world, but that wasn't his choice and he knew he couldn't make it for him. He loved Kevin and wanted to support the choice he wanted to take.

There wasn't any other way he could emphasize the word "Love" to him, it was just torture to even lie about saying he should be with his family when in reality, and it was the right choice to make. Demetrius didn't want Kevin to be away from his family, that was cruel to them, tearing a mother and father away from their child was just... evil. Not to mention it would be selfish to keep Kevin for himself.

For a second, the Husky thought about turning back.

But instead, he kept running... Running... Running...

Gavin squirmed a little and slowly blinked his eyes open.

He was in his room, resting comfortably in his bed and snuggling his face against the soft pillow he'd been laying on all night. It probably must have been the most comfortable sleep he'd ever had in years. Did Dr. Marshal get him a new comforter to sleep on? That would have been very generous of him; Gavin hasn't slept on anything this comfortable since he was a little boy. Sighing, he lightly pushed himself up and looked at the open eyes of the warrior whom he'd been sleeping on the whole night.

The Tiger warrior.

Dr. Marshal's guest.

The Guest! The GUEST!

"Oh my god!" Gavin quickly sat up, accidentally lifting the covers off both of them and looking down at the body beneath him. Damien had only his under-boxers on, which left him pretty much naked and almost exposed. This made the Racoon yelp and blush hard, slipping off the bed and stepping away from the warrior. "I'm so sorry! I-I didn't mean to fall asleep, I'm so sorry! Please my lord, forgive me!" Gavin's fur was prickled and standing up, his embarrassment was just completely... GAH! He redder than an apple now and he quickly averted his eyes toward the ground.

"No, no!" Damien sat up quickly with sad eyes and held out a hand reflexively, "It's my fault! I do not like to sleep in my armour so when you dozed off I just slipped out of my bottoms. It was stupid! I'm sorry. You just fell asleep against me and-and-and I didn't want to put you outside like some..." He trailed off, feeling the embarrassment off of Gavin and getting a totally and utterly terrible feeling in his gut.

"I shouldn't have fallen asleep; you're Dr. Marshal's guest! He would kill me!"

"Not if I had anything to say about it." This made Gavin stop thinking and gaze up to the Tiger eyes, they were serious and scared at the same time but Gavin wasn't sure if he was right, there seemed to be too much mixed emotions going on in his head he couldn't process anything anymore.

"What do you mean?" He asked with a quiet voice that almost seemed like a whisper, his hands crossing over his chest to keep his body heat close. The wind outside must have been making the room cold, or maybe it was the fact that the Racoons blood must still be rushing to his face instead of his body.

"I won't let him say or do anything to you... especially you..."

The room seemed colder to Gavin, now. Damn blushing...

King Alexander was in his study, pacing as usual and only running off of spare energy as he didn't get the chance to sleep last night. Well, how could he? His Assassin hasn't reported back yet and she should have done so yesterday. Is the boy dead? Has she been caught?

All thoughts went through his head, but no answer could be established to all. The King was restless and annoyed and frustrated and normally he would just ask Humphrey for advice but he was no longer an option. Humphrey was banished from his sight after he talked back yesterday; he was now stripped of his position and to work in the castle dungeons cleaning up after the blood and vomit. He was just another servant to the King. Alexander knew Humphrey would hate that treatment; the Rat felt too old for most of the chores and would despise the King if he'd done it to him.

Humphrey was no longer an option to think about anymore. It was now just Alexander to right what had been wrong the whole time. It actually felt better to have no one to throw a suggestion or idea to help falter his plans. So he didn't feel bad for the Rat what so ever.

The Rat was dead to him now.

Alexander laughed under his breath and spun around quickly to walk into his pace once more--until the shear pain of something sharp was driven into his chest frame and tearing its way through his body till it exited out of his back, blood entering his lungs and filling his wounds and mouth immediately. He looked up with wide eyes and was greeted with her, he tried to scream for help but instead he immediately had his mouth fill with blood, only managing a grunt that sent drops onto her clothes.

"What's the matter? Can't speak?"

Flare smirked and whipped the blade out of the King's chest, blood trailing along with it and smearing the wall. The King grunted, more blood trying to fill the gaping holes in his body and leaking down to pool beneath his feet. Falling to his knees, Alexander looked up into Flare's eyes and felt tears running down his face; he wanted to ask why but could only manage another grunt. He wasn't sure if he was trying to scream or not but he knew he was trying to say something, anything that would get someone to either help him or to kill her.

Flare looked over her shoulder, her blade hanging at her side, "It's done... you can come in now."

Alexander followed her gaze to the figure that walked in slowly; after they stepped into the light the King felt himself trying to scream again but only managed more blood to spurt out of his mouth.

"Good, I'll assure you you'll have the money by tomorrow before you leave the Kingdom." Humphrey sighed and looked around the room, the stains of blood on the wall and the pool on the floor made him cringe in disgust, "Though you could have held back on the amount of blood."

Flare smirked, "Hey had to at least make it look half decent. But that's it; I am no longer taking any more jobs. This is my last one. Remember you said my money will be doubled from the other job you gave me."

"Yes, yes, of course." Humphrey waved his hand. Being the Kings ex-loyal servant the Rat knew where he could get the money from Alexander's pocket, so money was no problem to him what so ever. "Though you didn't even kill the boy so I don't know why I should be doubling the payment."

The King gurgled. So she didn't do it, she didn't kill the boy! That bitch!

"Alright, well then," Humphrey glared at the King with eyes of death written all over them. Sighing hard and sliding his glasses off to clean them against his robe, he simply said, "Finish him off." And turned to leave the room, his mind elsewhere as he knew what he'd just done may have been the right thing, but he would never know.

The sound of a gurgling scream followed after, but that was soon silenced by a swing of a blade and a thud to the ground.

Kevin looked down from the edge he stood over and watched the lake below him sparkle and sizzle to life. The wind was harder now that he stood up higher above the ground, the sounds of trees and bushes rustling against each other and the morning sun hitting the water seemed to have calmed him. At this height, Kevin could just simply tip over and commit his death head first into the water and then he would finally be in his world.

It was that easy.

Demetrius should be awake by now, he guessed, and would be wondering where he would have gone. The Husky doesn't even know Kevin is here, so he won't have to face him with his decision. He knew it would be too hard on Demetrius to see Kevin kill himself anyway.

Demetrius would be better off without knowing he was here about to jump over the edge and plummet into the water. Although, he hadn't had the chance to say goodbye... That's probably what burned him on the inside the most. It wasn't that he didn't want to; it was because he couldn't stand to see his reaction to his decision. He loved Demetrius, he knew it, but making the choice between both of them was hard. Not only that, but heart breaking too.

If Kevin just ended his life here, everything would have to be easier after that. He wouldn't have to worry about all this anymore and just go back to the human life he'd been better off at. Maybe he'll find someone else like Demetrius there... Someone who is brave and confident, strong and loving, and protective and... right...

He wouldn't know unless he took the step off the edge. He controlled his life and right now he had it in his hands, ready to take on the drastic measures he had ahead of him.

He was ready.

Looking up, Kevin sighed, feeling a tear slide down his cheek, "Goodbye... Demetrius..."

Leaning forward with arms spread wide open, Kevin pushed off and plunged into the water...

"KEVIN! NO!"

"NO!"

Demetrius wasn't there in time.

After pushing through the brush of trees and shrubs, the Husky warrior witnessed the horror of what seemed to be what he feared the most. Kevin fell toward the sparkling water and plunged into it depths, a splash of sparks rising up like fireworks and sizzling like firecrackers.

Though, he didn't stop running.

Why hadn't he stopped yet? It's too late. Kevin should be dead within seconds. Why is he still running? It was as if his entire body was on auto pilot, he couldn't control his actions anymore.

Holding his breath, Demetrius leaped head first into the water...

"Someone get the chest paddles, now!"

The man from his earlier dream commanded loudly, his voice hard and tired but filled with sheer hope. Kevin's senses were on high alert now as all he could do was smell the clean air, hear the shuffling of bodies moving around him and a constant low beeping sound, a few seconds followed after and a cart was being rolled louder his way, his vision was black and he was floating in that space he was familiar with. There were quite of few hands touching him but Kevin guessed they were IV's being punched into his body, but one strong firm hand had managed to tear his shirt open, a slight draft blowing over his chest.

Kevin guessed he was in the hospital again. He must have done it, then, Kevin must have been able to accomplish his own death. Now, he was home.

"Everyone stand back."

There were a few sounds of feet moving back, Kevin guessed there were about six people--including the doctor--in the room.

"Clear!"

He gasped for air as he felt his body being dragged slowly out of the water and placed against the green grass, the one who grabbed him clearly showing struggle as he did so. The air was different now; it smelt of pine and dirt while he heard some coughing in the background. Soon his vision followed and he realized where he was.

"You idiot!"

Demetrius coughed and punched the dirt next to his head on both sides, his face hanging over Kevin's with teary eyes and wet drops from his fur falling onto to him, shocking the Human's face in little pins and needles. Kevin's body couldn't move when he wanted to sit up, everything other than his expression on his face wasn't cooperating with what he wanted to do.

"You can't leave like this! Not like this!"

Demetrius was sobbing and screaming but his hurt face seemed to be from mixed emotions. He looked in pain, not from emotional pain but from physical. Of course, he was emotionally angry with Kevin, but sad too.

"There's so much I haven't said to you yet! I need more time with you, please! I wanted to show you everything before you left, I wanted to hold you longer! Please don't die! Please Kevin I don't know what I'll do without you!" His crying made even Kevin tear up, all he could do was just look into his eyes and listen to what he had to say.

"Why can't fait let us be together? Why--!?"

Krrkum!

Kevin felt an electrical surge power through his body as he was now back in the hospital. In his body--in his world--he wanted to scream for being torn away from Demetrius, but his motor functions weren't following him. He was limp and numb all over and he could feel his heart beat fading slowly but still there...

The slight beeping from in the room was barely heard but he knew what they meant, beep...beep...beep...beeeeeeeeeeeep

"Damnit, we're losing him again!" The doctor's voice screamed in frustration, but Kevin knew he wasn't giving up just yet as he heard the powering up sound from the chest paddles, "Clear!"

"Kevin!"

A hand was padding his cheek, making him squint his eyes open and looking up at the beautiful Demetrius, whose face showed his fear of losing someone he loved, "Kevin!" The Husky brought his lips down hard on Kevin's and held them there, feeling the passion and love being transferred from his body and into his like electrictity

His body pounded against the table as he was brought back to the Hospital. The Doctor was breathing heavily now and the nurses around him seemed to be all holding their breath as the doctor held his spot over Kevin. There was a long silence from the people in the room but the beeping was still there, beeping slowly and vaguely enough for just a sheer hope that it will beep faster to prove that Kevin will be alive. Kevin was balancing from life and death, and no way was the doctor going to lose this battle now.

Two large firm hands were slapped onto Kevin's cheeks, and Kevin could sense the presence of someone's face just being inches away from his, "Kevin! Can you hear me?" The doctor said with his voice firm and hard still but with a hint of hesitation this time, "Kevin....Kevin can you hear me...Kevin!"

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

"Kevin! Kevin!"

Kevin opened his eyes again to look into those wonderful glacier blue eyes, feeling those firm hands on his cheeks and the hot breath of Demetrius. "Kevin! Don't fall asleep yet, just stay with me for a couple of minutes! Please!"

Demetrius pulled Kevin into a tight hug where his entire body was pressed against every part of his front. The sobbing of the Husky holding him making his eyes water up once again.

"D-Demetrius..." Kevin managed to get out meekly, but the Husky's ears perked up and he pulled away slightly to look into his eyes again.

"Kevin," He smiled and held him against the ground, seeming like he was in pain still from moving a lot, "Kevin, I love you.... I know I say it too much but it's true.... I want you to be happy and even if I'm losing you I will still love you no matter what. But I am not giving up on you, I promise! I will find a way to get back to you! I won't stop looking for you until it kills me! Don't give up on me, okay? You have to promise me that! Promise me Kevin you won't forget about me!"

Demetrius yelled for Kevin to give him a response, his tears still falling from his eyes.

"Promise me!" He sobbed, bringing his head down to snuggle it under his jaw, "Please Kevin, please don't forget me! I'll find a way to get back to you! I promise! I don't care how long it takes... I will find a way to get back to you! Kevin promise you'll wait for me, promise!"

Kevin looked into his eyes hard, seeing the warrior he loved becoming vulnerable. Kevin had found that his hand was moving up to the Husky's neck, pulling him down slowly to his face. Before their lips met, Kevin paused and found the one word he wanted to say the most.

"Promise..."

And then the two lover's lips met

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep...Beep, beep, beep, beep--"We got a pulse!"

Someone called from inside the room and the amount of exhales from in the room was from everyone helping the doctor. Even the doctor exhaled. The room seemed to get a silent cheer as the doctor commanded the nurses in the room to get him the supplies and sedatives to keep Kevin stable and not on the brink of death again. Kevin's mind still wondered in the black space but he knew the feeling of being back in his world, alive, and not feeling the one thing he got used to. The blood of Demetrius was no longer flowing through his veins anymore--he could just feel it within himself. It was like a void was left in his body and he didn't know how to use that space.

It was over... Kevin was back in his world, for good.

"Tell his parents..." The doctor sighed from the exhaustion, "Let them know their boy will be just fine."

"Demetrius!"

Damien, Gavin, and Dr. Marshal all jogged up to the two bodies on the ground, finding them both entwined in arms and legs. Damien quickly knelt down next to Demetrius and put his hands against his chest, feeling a heartbeat and sighing in relief as the fear of losing his comrade stuck into his heart like an arrow. Gavin stood behind Dr. Marshal--who knelt down next to Kevin's body and placed his fingers on his neck. Dr. Marshal sighed and shook his head.

"He's gone..." He said to Damien, his voice low enough to be a whisper.

Gavin inhaled sharply and held a hand up to his face to bite on his finger while Damien cursed under his breath. Demetrius must have pulled him out of the water because they were both wet. The water must have been what killed Kevin and Demetrius went and been an idiot, diving into the deadly lake and pulling the Human out. Demetrius was unconscious but still had a heartbeat, there's still a chance to save him, then.

"He needs to be treated..." Dr. Marshal said, looking into the Tiger's eyes with great sadness. "We should carry him back to the hut immediately."

The Tiger warrior nodded, "What about Kevin...?"

"We'll leave that till later; first we must get him back so we can treat him."

Demetrius came back to the Eternal Lake a day after, his body still sore from the water but the doctor had managed to save the Husky's life and stop him from dying. It took him a couple of hours to get the feeling back in his body and the motor functions to start cooperating with him again, but that didn't matter to him at all. All that he wanted to do was see his lover's lifeless body one last time.

It never moved from yesterday, his body was still there and by just looking at it made Demetrius tear up again from the pressure of seeing the one he truly loved sprawled out on the ground like that. His body was next to the water as Demetrius knelt down next to Kevin and put a paw on his cheek, feeling his cold skin and choking a sob back. He knew Kevin was probably back in his world and would be living a normal life again like how he'd used to from the beginning, but he was no longer going to be able to witness him be happy anymore.

He kissed his lips again, hating the fact that there was no response from the Human's body.

"I promise..." He said quietly to himself, pushing Kevin's body into the water and watching it slowly submerge under the coat of sparkling water. The sound of sparks sizzled and the Husky even felt the sizzling spark tap against his hands a little but he ignored them.

Demetrius sat there watching Kevin sink until he was no longer visible. The Husky sobbed a little before sucking in a breath, looking up into the sky and feeling the wind blow against his fur.

"Goodbye... Kevin."

EPILOGUE

"Hey dad?"

"Mmhm?" The boy's father sipped his coffee, his eyes glued to the newspaper in front of him but his peripheral vision locked onto his young son before him on the other side of the small round table. The sun shown into the apartment window in the living room and gave the father enough light to see what he was reading and found interest in the Arts section.

"I had another dream again." The boy took a bite of his cereal and looked at the TV inside the living room playing the usual morning cartoons.

"You did?" The father said, holding the coffee cup in front of his face so he could take in the steam of the refreshing newly made beverage, "Was it a good one?"

"I don't know," The boy took another bite, "But there was someone talking to me the whole time though."

The father smiled, "Was this person bad or good?"

"Good. Definitely good... but," The boy paused and put his spoon back into the bowl.

"But...?"

"It... It wasn't a person, it was more like a doggie!"

The father's eyes darted off the paper and at the boy in front of him, his heart having a slight flutter. "And what did this doggie look like?"

The boy thought for a second before responding, "A husky man!"

The father let the paper fall on the table, "Did this 'husky man' say anything to you...?" He leaned in and put all his attention towards his son. He was still young since his mother died from giving birth to him, but damn did he ever have those beautiful eyes his mother had though.

"Yeah, he said to tell you something."

"And what did he want to tell me?"

"That he promised."
