"Come on Meiest, get up!"

Meiest awoke to his mother shaking him and yelling his name. He pretends to still be asleep, hoping she will go away. After several more minutes of shaking and plenty of yelling, his mother left the room. Meiest eases one eye open, "Thank god she finally left, that was getting really annoying." A few moments later, his mother returns. Meiest immediately returns to pretending to sleep. Unfortunately for him, he didn't see what she was carrying when she returned, but he would find out soon enough. "What the hell was that for?!" shouted Meiest after his mother threw a bucket of cold water on him. "You wouldn't wake up." She replied simply. "Well you didn't have to throw water on me!" he snapped back at her. "Sure I did." she stated, a hint of satisfaction creeping into her voice. "Just get out of my room so I can get dressed." "Whatever you say." Meiest's mom walks out of his room with a slight grin on her face, satisfied with her revenge for her son's refusal to wake up. "I swear, she really gets on my nerves sometimes." Meiest continues to mumbling as he changes into his school uniform and out of his now soaking wet pajamas.

Meiest is a 14 year old light blue dragon. He's 5'9", which is small for dragons. His scales will sometimes catch the light and appear to waver. He has long silver hair that comes down to his shoulders, an average length muzzle, and eyes the same color as his scales. He prefers to wear loose fitting clothes and he has a habit of saying his thoughts out loud.

"Well, I've got some time before school starts; I might as well enjoy it." Meiest trudged to his computer, very unhappy it was a Wednesday morning. With a sigh he logged onto Dungeon Fighter Online to talk to his friends before school. "Oh hey, Cryonet's on."

To Cryonet: hi :3

Cryonet: heya klo :D

To Cryonet: whatcha doin?

Cryonet: Nothing rly, I just got on XD

To Cryonet: lolz, same here XD

Cryonet: hey klo wanna pvp?

To Cryonet: sure

Meiest and Cryonet fight each other for roughly 20 minutes.

Klorain: aww, u always beat me :/

Cryonet: lol, nah

Meiest looks at the clock and realizes he needs to leave for school.

Klorain: darn it, looks like I gotta leave 4 school :<

Cryonet: aww, ok, cya later klo D:

Klorain: tty when I get back

Cryonet: kk

After logging off of dfo, Meiest rushed to put on his backpack. He scrambled for the door, not wanting to be late to school, stopping right before he closed it behind him. "Almost forgot my lunchbox, ha-ha." He retrieves his lunchbox and leaves the house. Ever since Meiest's mom had gotten a new job and his dad left for his business trip, Meiest has been walking to school because he refuses to ride the bus. "Sometimes I wish I had someone to walk to school with..." Little did he know, his wish was about to come true.

Meiest is a freshman attending Ophelia High school. His day went about the same as every other Wednesday. He ran up the stairs to the 4th floor and got everything he would need for his classes out of his locker. Then he had to run down to the ground floor to get to his Engineering class. He usually found it hard to focus in this class since the kid behind him would always keep poking him. After much annoyance, he ran back up to the 4th floor for his Freshman Literature class. He spent most of the time in that class reading his book. Meiest

Meandered down to the gym where he just walked around and talked with his friends until they got to leave. Meiest was grateful when the bell for lunch finally rang. He had forgotten to eat breakfast that morning and was starving. He walked into the cafeteria and sat down at his usual seat. He began eating his lunch as he waited for his friend Enrico to sit with him as he did every day. "There you are." Meiest said, greeting his friend as he sat down. "Hey, gimme a dollar." "For the last time, I didn't bring a dollar with me." "Why?" "Because I didn't." Enrico then wanders off to talk to his other friends. "And there he goes again." Meiest continued to eat in silence for the rest of lunch, Enrico only bothering to come back for his backpack. Meiest left the cafeteria and ran back up to the 4th floor to get to his computer applications class where he spent most of the period typing. When the dismissal bell finally rang, he snatched up his backpack and sped out the door. On his walk back home, he decided to walk through the park for awhile, something he occasionally did to relax and think. "I really do wish I had someone to walk with." Meiest spent several more minutes strolling through the park and enjoying the cold winter air. After leaving the park, he let out a sigh and trudged the rest of the way home. He walked inside and tossed his backpack on the floor. He immediately went to his computer and logged onto dfo.

Lemelia: Hi, I'm new to this game, could u help me out?

Klorain: sure, I'd be happy to :3

Lemelia: awesome, thanks a bunch :D

Meiest and his new friend spend several more minutes talking.

Klorain: so what's your name, not to be rude or anything

Klorain: just curious.

Lemelia: Len

Klorain: ooh, nice name, mine's Meiest :3

Lemelia: lolz, ty ^^

Lemelia: I like your name too :3

Klorain: aww, ty ^^

Klorain: so where do you live?

Klorain: if u don't mind my asking.

Lemelia: what? Is something wrong?

Lemelia: omg, we should totally meet up tomorrow!

Klorain: what class do you have first?

Lemelia: biology

Klorain: ok, this is getting weird o-o

Klorain: what's your schedule for all 8 blocks?

Lemelia: engineering, literature, gym, computer applications, biology, French, American history, and algebra

Klorain: *faints*

Lemelia: o-o

Klorain: we have the EXACT same schedule!

Lemelia: ok, we've got to meet up tomorrow :D

Klorain: I'd be glad 2 ^^

Klorain: aww, my mom just got home and I'm supposed to be doing homework >_<

Lemelia: aww, ok, tty when u get back :(

Klorain: cya

Meiest immediately shut down his computer and pulled out his algebra homework. "Hello Meiest, how's your homework coming?" "It's going fine, mom." "As long as you're trying and not playing a game when you know you're supposed to be working."

Meiest awoke with a start the next morning. He had forgotten he set his alarm clock to get up early so he could talk to Len more. After the initial shock and confusion had died away to mild annoyance, he turned off the alarm and got into his uniform. "I think I just remembered why I don't use that alarm clock." Meiest finished getting dressed and logged onto dfo.

Lemelia: Heya klo :3

Klorain: hi :D

Klorain: oh, and sorry I didn't get back on last night.

Lemelia: oh that's ok, I kinda fell asleep anyway XD

Klorain: lolz

Klorain: so what part of t he class do you sit in?

Lemelia: I usually sit in the back of the class.

Lemelia: I'm kinda shy around other people XD

Klorain: lol, I'll make sure to sit in the back of the class then.

Lemelia: I'll sit on the left side today so meet me there.

Klorain: kk

Klorain: wow, time went by fast, I think we should leave 4 school.

Lemelia: ok, meet u there :3

Klorain: cya :3

Meiest snatched his backpack and ran out the door, eager to meet Len. Halfway up the street already, he realized he hadn't closed the door. He runs back and closes the door before bolting back down the street. By the time he got to school he was completely out of breath. "Thank god I brought my biology book with me because there's no way I'm making up those stairs to my locker." Taking a moment to catch his breath first, Meiest begins to walk to his first class. Upon reaching his class, he began scanning the room for Len. He spotted a snow-white fox sitting in the back of the class, resting his head on his paw and staring off into space. Meiest walks over and sits down next to the fox. The fox turns his head and studies him, obviously thinking about something. "Hi, are you Len?" The fox's face brightens, a smile instantly replacing his slight frown. "Meiest?" he asked expectantly. "Yup, glad to finally meet you in real life!" said Meiest, his face also turning into a wide grin.

Len is a 14 year old, 5'7", snow-white fox. His fur seemed to shimmer in the light. He has a very feminine figure and tends to act like a girl at times as well. His hair is slightly shorter than Meiest's; it only comes down to his shoulders and it blends perfectly with his fur. His eyes were a piercing light blue and seemed to stare into your soul when he looked at you. Meiest couldn't help but be taken aback by Len. He thought Len looked absolutely beautiful.

When Meiest snapped out of his trance, he realized Len had fallen silent and was patiently waiting for him to say something. "I love your fur by the way." "Thanks, it takes a lot to keep it under control. Sometimes I wake up and I look like a giant cotton ball," said Len with a giggle. "Ha-ha, I see what you mean." "I've actually been thinking about dying some of it light blue like your scales." "Ha, that sounds like it would be pretty cool." The two spent the rest of the day talking to each other, never seeming to stick to one topic for very long. "So do you have a lot of friends Len?" "Not really. I have a few friends online, but beyond you, I don't have any friends." Meiest was surprised. "I would think you'd be way more popular than that. Why don't you have any friends? Not to be rude or anything, I'm just curious." "I'm very anti-social." Len paused, and Meiest could swear Len's eyes got duller as he was about to speak. "But it's probably because I show the most support for gays." Meiest froze. Did he really just hear what he thought he did? He decided to try to find out more. "Why are you so supportive of gays? Why risk your life for theirs?" Len's eyes went blank and had begun staring off into space again. His voice when he spoke again was devoid of any emotion as if he was a robot. "My first and only friend in real life." Meiest probably could've slapped Len as hard as he could and Len wouldn't have so much as blinked at that point. Reliving the experience was sucking the emotion from Len. He continued on. "We used to play together every day. We always had lots of fun and where there whenever we needed each other. But when we got to the 7th grade, kids started making fun of him for being gay. By the middle of the year, they were beating him up every day, but he never did anything to stop them. I kept telling him he needed to tell a teacher before it got any worse, but he would always tell me he was fine. I could tell he was lying so I wouldn't worry about him. And one day, they beat him up really bad. When I got there he was already bleeding really badly, and they kept on beating him up. They didn't even care how horribly he was already beaten. I ran over and nearly killed two of them before they ran off, but not before one of them turned and spat at him. I glared at him with so much hatred that he ran as fast as he could. I ran to get a teacher and we carried him to the nurse. Before they put him into the ambulance, he beckoned me closer and said 'Len, I love you, and I always will no matter what happens to me.' The EMTs were disgusted and looked like they were about the leave him there to die, and if I hadn't glared at them until they loaded him on, they would have. As soon as I was sure everyone was gone, I collapsed on the ground and cried. I laid there for hours before school ended and I had to walk home. Once I got home I decided to go to sleep and cried until I finally fell asleep. I had never felt angrier than I did that day." Len's eyes had regained their color and were beginning to water. His voice was beginning to crack with pain and sadness as well. "And when I woke up, I got a call from his mom. She told me the doctors had done everything they could. I could tell it was bad news because she was crying. She said he had died last night. I said 'I'm so sorry,' and hung up. I never went to school that day, I just lay in my bed and cried until my eyes were burning." By now Len was crying and his voice was cracking left and right. "Now do you understand Meiest? My one and only friend was killed for being gay! And when I went back the next day to tell them he had died because of them they just laughed in my face!" The tears were pouring down Len's face now and it was beginning to mat his fur and he was sobbing uncontrollably. "And I easily could've been the one teased or beaten." "I had no idea..." Meiest hugs Len and does his best to comfort him. "It's okay, I'm here for you." Len was shocked, but quickly sinks into the hug and continues to cry. "Do you want me to walk home with you?" "S-s-sure, T-thanks." The two received several disapproving stares on their way out, but a glare from Meiest quickly returned them to their activities. They soon exited the building and continued on towards their houses.

Len soon stops crying and takes his head off Meiest's shoulder, his face turning red under his fur from embarrassment. "Umm, sorry about that, I just get so emotional at times, and that story didn't help at all." "It's okay, and I'm sorry I made you relive those painful memories." "I'm glad to know you care Meiest, but are you still okay with having me as a friend?" "We of course I am. Why wouldn't I be," replied Meiest, genuinely confused. "Because I'm gay..." "Oh that? Heh, don't worry about it." "But I could completely ruin your relationships with your friends if they saw you with me." "I could care less if they think I'm gay." "Are you sure?" "Of course, I'm gay too after all." Len was taken aback when he heard that. "You're gay too?" "Mhm." "You're the last person I'd expect to be gay." "Well, truth is often stranger than fiction." "Ha-ha, I guess you're right." Len pauses and thinks for a few seconds. "Hey, do you want to walk through the park for awhile?" "Sure," replied Meiest happily.

They decide to walk through the park, enjoying the snow-covered scenery. "Isn't the park so beautiful in winter," asks Len. "It sure is," agreed Meiest. When the two reached the top of the tallest hill in the park, Len stops. "H-hey Meiest, can I ask you a question?" "Sure, go ahead." "Uhh... umm... do you... have a..." "A what?" "A boyfri-" At that moment, Len's foot slips backwards on a patch of ice and he tumbles down the hill. Meiest instinctively reaches for him. "Len!" He manages to grab Len's leg but only gets pulled down with him. Two children who were playing in the park notice them and start running towards them, their parents following closely behind. Meiest and Len finally reached the bottom of the hill. The last thing that registered in either of their minds was reaching for each other as the children asked them if they were okay and their parents pulled out their cell phones and called 911.
