Soldiers of War pt 3

Three Rangers and a Princess.

After receiving a distress signal, Captain Sevnningsen and two of his men have to check it out. Characters from Brothers in Arms will also make an appearance (Disclaimer: I did not create the Brothers In Arms Characters nor do I own them. They were created by and are the sole property of Terry Allen. This is also non canon to his Brothers in Arms stories.)

"Distress signal my ass!" Lucas complained.

Merrick had intercepted a distress signal from a Canadian soldier. Merrick had taken Lucas and Nathan to the location of the signal. They were about two clicks south of the highway. Lucas was even starting to show doubts. Nathan had scouted ahead of them.

"Captain, with all due respect, I think Nathan may be right. We haven't seen any North Korean soldiers or patrols, or any sign of that." Lucas continued.

Merrick nodded his head. He didn't know what else to do.

"Oi!" they heard Nathan shout. They headed toward his position. He was standing over the side of the highway. He was pointing at several tire marks on the highway. Lucas knelt down and examined the marks.

"They were here." he said back to Merrick. Merrick and Lucas then heard the distant sound of vehicles driving.

"They can't be too far," Lucas added.

"Okay guys," he sighed "Let's go back to the rendezvous."

Just as they were about to turn back though, they smelled something. Being wolves, they had an excellent sense of smell. It smelled very feminine, very felinish, and very pumped up on adrenaline. They heard the sounds of footsteps and the sound of a gun being cocked.

"YOU THREE TURN AROUND NOW!"

Merrick turned and his men turned around and were staring down the barrel of a C8 carbine (the Canadian variant of the M4). Merrick was also staring at the beautiful eyes of a lovely lynx.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU!" she demanded, her finger nestled gently on the trigger. Merrick was the one to return.

"I'm a Captain in the United States Army. My name is Merrick Sevnningsen." he answered.

The lynx shouldered her C8 and put her hands on her hips. Lucas shrugged his head.

"Wait a minute," he interrupted "Who the hell are you?" Aeslin then took a look at Lucas. In a way, he reminded her of Tank, a fellow soldier.

"Major Corporal Aeslin Vrostock!" she interjected. Nathan kept laughing.

"What's matter kid never seen a wolf before?" he asked back. Merrick stepped forward.

"Aeslin this is Sergeant Lucas Carter. Don't worry he doesn't bite." he said with a smile. Lucas gave a small nod. Aeslin nodded back.

"So what are you guys doing here?" she asked. Lucas looked at her. Aeslin Vrostock, he had heard that name from somewhere. Something about a group of Canadian soldiers that successfully held off a group of Taliban soldiers. Hopefully, she was also capable against the North Koreans. Also, she and Merrick were talking to each other has if they had known each other.

"We're here by orders of the United States military." Merrick responded. Aeslin nodded her head. It was about time too!

"Look," Merrick asked "We need to know what the situation is. We are aware that the North Koreans have attacked. But how big is this? Where's the Canadian military?"

Aeslin shook her head.

"It's far worse than your government thinks." she said with a sad look in her eyes. "We lost contact with half our bases, our air force has been destroyed, and worst of all we have no contact with our government or any of our high commanding officers. Our military is completely scattered. Our Navy has also been taken out too."

Merrick and his team were awestruck. The North Koreans were tough, but they were incapable of such an attack. Not only that but during the 2012 Six-Party talks, China had given up on North Korea and had announced that they were going to stop funding the North Koreans entirely. There were rumors that after the 2011 communist takeover in Russia (which led to the New Soviet Union) North Korea's new leader, General Kim Han Song, was secretly forming an alliance with the New Soviet Union. But there was barely any evidence to support this. Not only that, with NATO's economic boycott on both the New Soviet Union and North Korea, it would be too expensive to fund an attack like this. But then again, rumors have a bad habit of turning out to be correct. Just then Merrick's head set clicked again. Colonel Dennison came back on.

"Wolfden to White Fang," he called "Wolfden to White Fang."

Merrick immediately responded. "White Fang to Wolfden. Subject rescued. It is a Canadian military personnel."

There was a pause before the Colonel came back on again.

"Does he know anything about the situation?" he asked.

Merrick looked at his team and Aeslin.

"SHE told us that the Canadian forces have been decimated. Their Air Force is grounded, and their Navy has been destroyed." he responded.

The Colonel responded back. "So you're saying that Canada's military is in deep shit?"

Merrick nodded to himself. "That's pretty much it."

There was another long pause between him and the Colonel. When the Colonel came back on, he sounded very worried.

"Jesus Christ!" he exclaimed "Report back to the rendezvous. I'm reporting this to HQ."

"Roger," Merrick said back and with that his head set clicked again. He then turned to his team and Aeslin.

"Okay, we need to get the hell out of here," he ordered "Colonel orders are to head to rendezvous point."

Aeslin shook her head. "How far away is it?"

Nathan was the one to respond. "About several clicks north of here, why?"

Aeslin turned back and looked at the forest.

"The rest of my battalion is still out there," she said with a sad tone "I need to help them!"

Lucas had a complete disagreement look on his muzzle.

"Look, right now there is nothing we can do about them," he told her "We have to get to the rendezvous point now!"

"AND JUST LEAVE MY TEAM BEHIND!" she yelled at Lucas. Lucas was starting to get pissed off. He personally didn't know this lynx, but he knew he wasn't going to like her.

"YOU'LL JUST GET YOURSELF KILLED!" he shouted back "Our only option is to head back to the rendezvous! The rest of the teams waiting."

There was a distant sound of North Korean tanks and armored fighting vehicles. Aeslin still refused to budge. She couldn't leave her team, her family behind. Merrick put a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"As much as a would love to help you out," he said "I'm afraid Lucas is right. The North Koreans are approaching and our support isn't going to wait any longer."

Aeslin shook her head and she turned around and started heading down the highway. "NO! I'm going after...."

Merrick grabbed her arm and looked at her in the face.

"Aeslin listen to me!" he demanded "We will return to assist your team in any way possible! You understand!"

Aeslin had a few tears in her eyes but she nodded. Merrick let go of her shoulder.

"Look, when we reunite with our support group tell them the location of your team and we will see what we can do." he said calmly. Aeslin was hesitant but she soon realized there was no other way. Nathan led her to the position.

When Merrick and the rest of his team arrived, not only was Bravo Unit ready, but so was one of the marine battalions sent to assist them. There were several Blackhawk and CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters were and ready to take off. Their rotors picking up dirt in the air. On each side two M240 machine guns were loaded, prepared to unleash hell when they had to. The Blackhawk helicopters belonged to the Night Stalker Regiment of the United States Army Air Cavalry. They were transporting about some several dozen wolf marines, all dressed up in their camo attire. Almost all of them were equipped with M16A4 assault rifles and Sig Sauer P226 pistols (in 2012, the P226 replaced the M9) or M-45 pistols. Some of them were holding M60E4 machine guns while others had M39 sniper rifles. A few even had AT4 rocket launchers. These wolves weren't just any ordinary marines though. They were marines from the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the United States Marine Force Recon. Their commander got out. His name was Major John Balto. He was an old friend of Merrick's and they had both worked together a very good number of times in the Middle East. The only difference was that Merrick was in the Army and John chose the Marine Corps. Balto was a wolf about 6'5'' with dark grey fur. He was about the same age as Merrick. He wasn't too muscular but he was still very physically fit, US Marine training made him that way.

"Okay Marines!" he announced "This is a tough assignment. We have confirmation that the North Koreans have invaded our neighbors in Canada." He then pointed at Merrick and his Ranger unit.

"Those guys are with the Army Rangers," he said "They will be on point. Our job is to keep them alive. Understand!"

"OF COURSE WE DO SIR!" the marines shouted back.

Major Balto gave the orders and soon, Merrick, Aeslin, his Ranger team, and all the marines were on board the Blackhawks and they were in the air. Merrick was in the same helicopter that Balto was on. Nathan and Aeslin was also with them.

"So missy ever been on a Blackhawk?" Nathan flirted. Aeslin shook her head. Although she had seen them in Afghanistan, she had never personally flown in one.

"These damn choppers can handle anything thing you shoot at them," the Australian wolf exclaimed. "One time I was in one these Blackhawks in Afghanistan, we was engaging Taliban insurgents and one of them fired an RPG and it exploded at point blank range and we ...." he continued to babble his war story to Aeslin. Merrick smiled and shook his head at the sight. Nathan always had a thing with women! He then turned to John.

"So John what's the mission?" Merrick asked. Balto nodded back.

"About several miles northeast of here there's a small airfield that the North Koreans have taken," he answered over the roaring of the helicopter "And you've been assigned to capture it and use it for our forces. It's very lightly guarded and the Air Force is calling a few F-15's in to destroy any planes on the ground."

Merrick looked at Balto.

"Don't you mean we?" he asked. Balto shook his head.

"We're here on escort duty," he answered back "You're the wolf they want in command. Whatever you say my marines will do. Got it?"

Merrick nodded his head. Balto then took out a document that was wrapped with a small band.

'By the way," he continued "Our friends at the CIA have found some intelligence on the North Korean invasion."

He opened up the document and placed it on his lap. He then took out three photographs and showed them to Merrick. The first one was a picture of a snow leopard. He had a military decoration suit on and he looked like he was in his early fifties.

"This leopard's name is Choi Hong Paik," John said. "Commander of the KPAF. Not too dangerous, but he's an extremely formidable tactician. He also commands a group of handpicked paratroop commandos."

John pulled out another photograph. This one was of a jackal. Unlike Paik, the jackal wore what looked more like an NCO officer's uniform. He was also in his early thirties. The most distinguishing feature was that he wore an eye patch over his left eye.

"This one eyed Jackal's name is Myeong un Chang. He may look young but he's actually in command of the North Korean SOF."

"The NKSOF are here?" Merrick asked. The North Koreans had deployed their special forces! Although the United States Army Rangers were tough soldiers, rumor has it the NKSOF were practically super soldiers. Trained for absolute obedience and pushed to their absolute limits, according to North Korean military exiles and US army intelligence, they would fight to the death and never surrender. Nathan overheard and laughed. He didn't seem afraid.

"It's about bloody time the Rangers got an opponent worth our talents!" he exclaimed.

"Whose supplying the North Koreans with all these weapons?" Merrick asked curiously. The North Koreans on their own were incapable of this kind of operation. Someone had to be funding them.

John only shrugged his shoulders. It was obvious he didn't know.

"Hell if I know!" he responded. He then pulled out the last photo. It was a picture of a tiger dressed in an officer's uniform that would've been worn by someone of high command.

"And this tiger's name is Hong Seon Fat." John pointed out. "Commander of the KPA's 3rd Mechanized Infantry and the head commander of the North Korean invasion force. The CIA believes his unit is personally spear heading the assault."

The sound of his name practically made Aeslin jump out of her seat.

"General Hong Seon Fat?" she asked. John looked at her in a rather confused manner.

"Well, yeah?" he stared at her. "How did you know he was a general?"

There was anger in Aeslin's eyes.

"He's the bastard that attacked my team!" she practically roared. It was only a few days ago that she and her team were at Edmonton Army base when the North Koreans came. She remembered waking up to the sound of gunfire and artillery bombardments. Her company fought back, but they were soon overwhelmed and had to retreat. Most of the others however, were captured. Nathan put a comforting paw on Aeslin's shoulder.

"Hey don't worry," he assured in a calming voice. "We'll head back for your team, hell before you know it you'll be with them dancing to ACDC and roasting chops on the barbie!"

Aeslin stared at him with an awkward look.

"His parents are from Australia." Lucas told Aeslin. Most of the Rangers in the helicopter started laughing.

"Oi! There they go!" Nathan pointed out the Blackhawk's window. Outside, were four F-15E Strike Eagles soaring through the air in a perfect formation ready to attack the unsuspecting North Koreans.

"Do you think the Americans suspect anything?" General Song said as he was eating his dinner of fine beef and expensive wine. He was a tall, wingless dragon in his late forties. He was the illegitimate son of Kim Jung il and a Chinese mistress. About two years ago, he took North Korea from his father. He was talking to an a bear who was speaking in a very distinctive Russian accent.

"It matters not," he said as he stared out the Ryugyong Hotel window staring at the quiet city of Pyongyang. "What matters is can the army of Russia trust your leadership?"

General Song stood up and gave a small laugh.

"I can assure you, the Korean People's Army is highly trained and ready to die for their country." he said with pride as he readjusted his military cap. Prior to returning to North Korea, General Song lived with his mother and served in the PLA. He then came back and became a commander in the KPA and then took over his country. "They will not let you down!"

The Russian bear nodded his head but still refused to face the general.

"We have news that the Americans have already deployed a small coalition force of marines and special forces and they are mounting the rest of their military for a counter attack." he slyly pointed out.

Song nodded his head in agreement. It was true that the initial stages didn't go one hundred percent according to plan. The American government had caught on earlier the invasion of Canada and were responding quicker than the stage had expected. But still, they had gotten a good head start.

"We can readjust," he said to the Russian "Besides, little do the Americans and their European cronies know we have no interest in Canada."

The Russian started giving a low, menacing laugh.

"Operation Underlord will be the grand master of all military operations." the Russian said with a grin. General Song smiled back. Behind him was a small table with a map of the world. The state of Alaska was circled with a marker.

"America will be crushed, Canada will be ours, and the cowards in Europe will have no choice but to listen to us." He howled with laughter. "Little do the Americans know they are falling into a trap!"
