#1 of Lost Legends

A thousand years ago, man was primitive, but wise. They had a deep understanding and connection with nature. So deep was this connection, they were able make pacts with beasts. Those that the beasts found worthy were given the privilege to become one with the beast that chose him. Forever being one, sharing with them their body, power and life. This gave them special strengths and abilities, they were able to transform freely into their 'standing' human like form to their 'true' beast form. The beast-kind are known as Therians. There were many beasts that accepted pacts with these early humans and so their kind was diverse.

There were humans who were not found worthy of this pact. They felt wronged and thus greed and jealousy was born. Those who could not accept this isolated themselves and began doubting the old ways. They lost their trust in nature, and so began to fight against its natural cycles.

Elves, mysterious and powerful, attempted to help the lost and hopeless. They were active in peacekeeping, and trying to keep the balance in the world. They were the original discoverers of magic. In an attempt to create balance, they made the mistake of teaching humans and therians magic, and in the end, their trust and knowledge was abused.

Darker, more destructive forms of magic were discovered and practiced, and for the first time used as weapons against others. Therians learned these new concepts and soon began to forget the old ways. They lost trust in each other begun to fight amongst themselves. The therians began to forget their origins, history and their ability to shape-shift.

Therians forgot their true form, never to take their beast form again. Lost to the generations past, only to be remembered in dreams. Some forgot their standing form, cursed to remain in their beast form. Lost to their instincts, they have become wild and dangerous. They now live with their wild brethren in the wild knowing no peace.

The elves, betrayed by humans and therians isolated themselves. They kept to themselves and never showed themselves to the rest of the world, except for the rare envoy to the large cities. They turned visitors away and protected their territories fiercely from those who tried to take what was theirs. Though they are a peaceful people, there were no better warriors in the land. They are wise and powerful; they valued knowledge and protected it from those not worthy.

The world is now fractured and dangerous. War comes like the tide, and peace is only a dream for the naïve.
